Who: Travis and Adam (with an apperance from Constance)
When: Noon-ish
Where: Starts at Constance/Adam Cottage
What: Oh well halo call me Mr. Nielsen ;D

If you’re going to the Market and you’re coming all the way from the damn Water Bungalow’s, there is no way in hell that you shouldn’t try and find something else to do other than buy some food then call it quits. It wasn’t like a walk across the street. While talking to his daughter was a good chunk of time worth the walk back, Travis still wanted to stay in Helicharis. So why not meet some of the people in the area?

Of course, when the fire mage told his daughter he was going to pay the towns people a visit, she had come up with the dare that he knock on a random door and tell the person he encountered whatever came to mind. He wasn’t one for saying no. Besides, who the hell cared? He lived nowhere near the Town Cottages. He doubted he could get in serious trouble for being a jackass.

So, on went his journey to find a cottage that struck his fancy. “Boring, Boring, Boring. God, don’t you people do anything with your houses?” Some people’s exterior design needed some serious looking at. This was going to be their residence for perhaps life for Christ sakes, do something with it. At least put on some sort of address or something.

Finally, after what seemed to be three hours, a house caught his interest. Travis tilted his head as if he was trying to figure out why the hell the house was so intriguing to him. He quickly waltzed to the door and knocked. During the period while he was waiting for someone to answer, he was thinking of a role he could bullshit.

Constance was happy to see Adam's face again today after he had declared he needed some time alone to himself. Adam seemed happier now, and neither of them brought up what had happened when he came in this morning. He said he had spent the night at Theora's place, and Constance raised an eyebrow, even though she knew nothing happened between the elf and the elemental. Still, the two of them weren't quite aware of propriety, regardless of what was really going on. Constance listened as he told her of his night watching The Corpse Bride with the priestess and smiled all the while.

The knock on the door around noon drew Constance's attention, and she hoped it was nothing bad. She answered the door with a suspicious face, since she had made it clear that she didn't want to be disturbed today after the All Hallow's Eve festival was over. Constance drank a bit too much the night before, and she wasn't feeling 'at her best' ever since she woke up.

She opened the door and came face to face with a man she wasn't familiar with by name or face. "Who are you?" she asked.

Adam had heard the knock, too, and peeked out from the hallway behind Constance. "Who's there?" he asked, gazing over his shoulder in a robe. If Travis didn't know any better, he might assume Constance had made quite the catch the night before.

Travis probably looked like a deer in headlights for a moment. Not just a deer in headlights, but a deer that was just about to get run over. “d-Uh” Seriously? When was he going to be able to bang someone half his age or so? This place favored everyone but him. It was probably because he pulled stunts like this on other people.

Time to find the bullshit. “Uh” he shook his head for a moment, trying to make himself not look like a stunned idiot. Hey, some liked the grannies. She wasn’t a bad looking one either. “I work at the library as teacher.” He’s started off and it rolled off his tongue like he was stating his name. “And you see I, like the other teachers notice that for such a large community not enough children seem to be attending all the classes that are actually offered. So since I happened to be nearby, I just decided to knock on people’s doors and see if anyone had children in need of classes. “

Phew, that was difficult. He was trying not to grin at the two while explaining why he was there. “We talk about everything from the environment to foreign languages, to anything you can imagine. Everyone who teaches at the library is just shocked that we don’t see as many kids that we believe are in this haven.”

God, he sounded like an actual good guy. Where did Travis go? Ah yes, he was wondering if the Asian guy had a sister.

As he explained why he had knocked on her door, Constance eyed him suspiciously for a moment. She knew there were teachers at the library, though she had never met any of them personally. His story sounded true enough to her ears, and Constance would have expected someone to come by and lie about something like that. "Huh, is that so?" she asked Travis, looking back at Adam.

"Well, Adam isn't a kid in body, but he's a kid in mind sometimes. He doesn't get out enough or know as much as I would like him to. I tell him to get out more, but Adam seems bent against it." Adam looked down at the ground shyly as this was mentioned to Travis. "If you're up for teaching elementals, you can take him with you," Constance said.

She gestured at Adam's robe. "Don't let the house robe fool you. He's already dressed beneath all that. Adam just likes wearing robes around the house. Adam! Come say hi to . . . " She turned to Travis, furrowing her brow. "What did you say your name was?"

Travis let out a laugh while referring to the two. “Oh..haha..oh. I thought you two were..we..” Okay, that probably wasn’t very professional. He quickly got rid of that and continued on with the seriousness. “An elemental?” He was guessing maybe like him, just a bit more complicated? Well if he was a teacher he should be smart enough to know what Adam was. “How wonderful!” His smile was genuine even though he was wondering what he had got himself into.

“I’m more than willing to teach your..Adam. He seems like a cool kid. Come on, we’ll take a walk get to know what kind of things you want to learn.” and why the hell you’re staying inside. It was time for Mr. Eley to meet how Mr. Nielson would teach an elemental.

“Oh! How rude of me not to introduce myself. My name is Travis Nielson. I live in the Water Bugalows but I am always in the area if you need me.” The less he talked about himself the better. He didn’t want his ass on fire.

“Well! Adam are you ready?”Killer house robe. Maybe he should ask the kid where he got it.

Constance immediately caught on to what Travis was saying, and her eyes went wide before a hearty laugh wracked her chest. "Oh, good lord, no!" Constance announced, waving her hand in a dismissive manner through the air. "I'm an alchemist," she said with a grin, "and Adam here is my elemental." She made sure to gesture towards Adam as she spoke of him, since he was right there after all. "He's twenty-six, but he still seems to have the mind of a six-year-old if you ask me," she said in a lower voice, not wanting Adam to hear her say that part out loud.

She extended her hand to Travis with a bright grin on her face. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Mr. Nielsen, and you go ahead and take Adam and teach him whatever you want. I'm sure he'll have fun." Adam had approached the door just then, the robe he had been wearing just moments before discarded somewhere in the cottage. He was wearing a button-down long sleeve shirt and a part of jeans underneath. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to actually leave the house or not, though.

Constance looked over and stared at Adam. "Well, go on and get your shoes on!" she said like a mother talking to a child, and Adam looked at her in confusion.

"I'm going somewhere?" he asked.

"Yes, you're going with Mr. Nielsen here," she said. "He's a teacher. Go on! Get your shoes and go on with him."

Adam look terribly confused, but went into the house anyway to put his shoes on. He reappeared at the door again and walked out to step beside Travis. Constance smiled and waved at them both. "Have a good time, Adam!" she said happily, closing the door a moment later.

Adam just turned to look at Travis, more confused than ever about what had just occurred.

Travis waved towards Constance in a cheerful nature before he turned towards Adam, looking him over like he was something that of amazing. “Christ on the Statue of Liberty, what the hell are you doing inside all day?” He took a large intake of air. “You smell that air? “ Sure he was about to pollute it with cigarette smoke, but still. “It’s fresh air! You don’t consider going outside? Look at you. You should be in the market talking to people, making friends, girlfriends. You know. You sound like a human party trick or something.”

He leaned in close to Adam. “I’m not really a teacher. But I will tell you something, there is no way you should be staying inside all day. If you stay with your alchemist, it makes you seem like a mamma’s boy. Granted, you are like a child it seems, but no one likes a mama’s boy.”

Since he was walking, Travis had to set his head somewhat towards the ground to light up his cigarette. After he tended to his own craving, he offered one to Adam. “You want one? They’ll kill you. But I mean, I tree could fall on me and kill me right now so I never really think about it.”

Hey, not bad in teaching. He never said he was teaching Adam anything good on the first day. He was just letting Adam get to know who he was. “Have you even ever been to the Wine Bar? Or is your..uhm..mommy, alchemist lady strict on the booze levels too.”

Adam blinked at the other man as he thought about how to answer Travis's question. He was a bit literal with things sometimes, and he thought that Travis actually wanted an answer out of him. "It's only noon," Adam answered, much like one might expect a little kid to answer in a petulant tone to their parents. "I've been outdoors a lot lately," he added, crossing his arms over his chest in an uncomfortable manner. "I sometimes like to spend time inside."

He was, however, surprised to learn that Travis wasn't a teacher. Adam released his arms from their position across his chest and gestured back towards his home. "But you told Constance you were a teacher," he protested loudly, which was only because Adam had been dragged out of the house when he had wanted to be inside today. After sleeping outside for a while, Adam had temporarily grown tired of seeing so much grass and trees. Adam didn't say anything to Travis calling him a momma's boy, since it was in his nature to spend a lot of time with Constance. "Why not?" he asked, sounding a little sad that Travis had suggested people might not like him. Adam wanted people to like him.

They were walking now, though, so Adam began to follow Travis. He didn't know what else to do, so he might as well walk with the man. While he knew what a cigarette was, Adam had never been taught they were bad for you. His eyes went wide, though. "They kill you?" He immediately took the cigarette from Travis's hand and threw it down on the ground, stomping it with his foot. "Why were you smoking it!" Adam took the whole 'they kill you' part a little too literal.

"No, I haven't been to The Wine Bar," Adam answered hesitantly. "Not because of Constance, though. I just never went."

This kid was like a six foot baby. When the elemental made a loud protest against Travis being a teacher he turned towards him and put his hands out towards Adam. “Shh, shut up! Some people will think I am kidnapping you or something. Besides, I am a teacher. Not all people have to be..educated to earn the title to have to teach, you know. You have a lot to learn and there are things that I can teach you. Sure, you may not think they are important..” The fire mage smiled as he was about to put the cigarette back to his lips. “But I do.”

When Adam took the cigarette from him and stomped on it, he tossed his hand into the air. “Great. Wonderful. A cancer sticks suffers a loss and now I have to mooch one off of my daughter. That’s one reason you’re not going to be liked. Don’t take things so seriously, or so damn literal. If someone is going to die of lung cancer- tough shit. We all die someday. It’s a tragic thing, but it happens kid. There are a lot of things in this world you are going to hate or dislike yourself but you have to get used to it. There! See, I’m providing some useful information after all.”

He moved towards the Wine Bar and opened the door, shuffled his eyebrows a bit. “Trust me. You’ll love this place. The..beverages they offer here are unique. The people here may be a little distant but just ignore them, they can be real assholes. People in here don’t matter if they like you or not. Half of them are..uhm..in a different place.”

He somewhat pushed Adam in the Wine Bar before he followed him. To make sure Adam didn’t stray from him, he held his elbow and directed him towards the bar. Thankfully there was a man working at the bar, woman tended to ask more questions. “Yeah, hi. Can you get this here gentleman a scotch on the rocks please? I’ll just have a beer.” He had to be the designated walker. This was going to be good.

“Oh. And hurry up since I don’t have all day.” He made it even more clearly by snapping his fingers. “One more thing.” he leaned over the counter to steal two glasses without permission. “Just leave the bottle.”

Adam was a lot like a six foot tall baby. It came with the territory of being pampered a lot at home and never getting out as much as other people tended to get out. Adam's only teachers had been Constance and Nikolai, and he learned a lot of positive things from the two of them and so the world looked like a better place than the reality of things. The elemental felt a little bit better when Travis assured him that he was good at teaching despite not having an official title. Travis had a point there, and Adam didn't see what there was to argue about it, and so he followed the other man willingly wherever they were supposed to go.

He ended up eying the stomped cigarette on the ground, a frown forming on his face. "They cause lung cancer?" he asked sadly. "Nikolai died of lung cancer. It look a long time, and he suffered a lot. Why would you want that?" The ironic thing was Nikolai never smoked cigarettes; he had caught lung cancer another way. Nikolai was constantly in a work and off-work environment with other smokers, his friends. He developed lung cancer and died as a result of it. Adam would always remember what he died of and how painful it had been for the father figure that helped raise him.

"People die at some point, but they shouldn't pick ways to die," Adam argued. "You may know you're going to die, by why actually cause it yourself?" That was a genuine thought of Adam's own.

Adam followed Travis into the bar, even though the other man since more persistent than usual to get Adam inside. It didn't smell pleasant at all, and Adam ended up wrinkling his nose. It smelt like Constance after she drank too much alcohol. She always acted weird afterwards, but Adam had never tried it himself and he wasn't sure what made people act weird. The effects of drugs had never been explained to him, and he wasn't aware of how it all worked.

"What are we doing?" Adam asked, taking a seat at the bar.

Travis looked over at Adam like he was surprised that Adam asked a valid question. It wasn’t like he thought the elemental was stupid or anything, it was just that Adam asked him a question that took him sometime to answer.

“….Adam. People sometimes don’t want to die when they are old. I mean, I know I wouldn’t want to be dragging my feet, hunched like a hunchback with terrible pain as I walked. Not to mention people can suffer horrible diseases related to getting older like Alzheimer’s. You lose your memory and control of your body functions. It’s a slow and painful death. Hell, I think once you hit eighty five it is a slow and painful death. Unless I am one of those V8 juice miracle drinkers with a killer body at that age, I know I won’t age well. So I would rather die young.”

When Travis got cozy at the bar and handed Adam his drink he simply smiled. “I am teaching you how to have fun. By that I mean grown man fun. You seem the type that likes to frolic around in the tall grassy fields or something. This is like, real fun that people your age should have once in awhile.” He tried not to get Adam to smell the scotch when he handed it to him. “Trust me, it may burn a little but just taste it. If you don’t like it. Believe me..there is plenty more to try.” He gave off the sweetest of smiles. The kid was adorable. Thank god his daughter wasn’t here. The girl would want to take him home and wrap him in a blanket.

As much as Adam would have not previously understood and argued against what Travis proposed, the other man also brought up a valid point of view that Adam hadn't considered before. It was true that people suffered from diseases at all ages, and whether it was brought on purposefully or not, everyone was going to die someday from something. Death was unavoidable, even if it seemed like a faraway concept to Adam. As an elemental, he wouldn't pass on in the same way as humans and he knew that. Constance told him the differences between himself and humans, and Adam knew one day he would lose this body, but he came from something before this body and he wouldn't vanish upon death.

It was a different story for humans. They couldn't remember anything before their body, and Adam understood they felt scared of what happened afterwards. Adam knew what would happen to him, but personally he wanted to join Constance and his human family when he passed away. Either way, the topic of death was too serious for now. Adam didn't really say anything in response, choosing to remain silent.

Travis handed Adam a drink, and Adam glanced down at the glass. "This is alcohol, isn't it?" he asked, looking up at Travis. He beamed briefly when Travis mentioned frolicking around in a grassy field, since it was a favorite pastime of Adam's, but he become confused again when Travis said this was real fun. Grown man fun. Adam looked down at the drink again and wrinkled his nose. "It smells funny," he said.

Travis made a small “uhm” noise before he thought about how he could lie about the alcohol. The scotch was clear colored so maybe he could BS a little before he had to give into the lie if Adam caught on. “No. Not alcohol my friend. This is energy water! You see, enough of this bad boy and you are all over the place.” Yeah blurred vision, slurring, silliness. “Uhm, by that I mean you laugh, you feel free.” You have to pee. “You just feel alive. The next day if you feel a little like..worn out..it’s just the immense energy of this drink. I got to tell you, this drink changes people’s lives.”

He gave off a serious look while in his mind he was laughing. It changed people’s lives because they became alcoholics, but Adam seemed to be hard to get drunk. Much of it was perhaps convincing.

Shit, the smell was another issue. “It’s created with some of the best herbs from the Magical Supplies Shop. That’s why. You know those Sorcerer bastards. They still haven’t gotten rid of aftertaste of what makes it..so..delicious…sort of…delicious..”

He made an example of finally drinking some of the scotch and he squinted an eye slightly before he smiled wholeheartedly.

While Adam first thought it was alcohol, he had no reason to believe Travis would lie to him about the drink. The other man called it energy water. Adam had heard of energy drinks before; they were supposed to be good for you and give you a boost of energy, which was meant to make you feel better throughout the day. Commercials for them on the television used to say that a lot. Humans appeared to be tired so much according to those commercials, and Adam wasn't sure what that felt like since he was an elemental and he always felt like he had energy.

Still, it couldn't have been harmful for him to try one of their energy drinks. The way Travis described it made it sound really nice, and Adam tilted his head back as he drank from the glass.

He coughed, spitting some of it out by accident. The rest of it had gone down. "It tastes gross," Adam complained, making a face as he put the glass back down. "They really need to work on that aftertaste," he said seriously as he shook his head. Sorcerers were supposed to be very talented. Adam couldn't see why they could get the ingredients to be so powerful and yet not be able to tone down the flavoring.

The night wore on, but Adam never quite got drunk. His stomach got full before that was possible, and the two men continued to talk before leaving the establishment. Hopefully, it wouldn't be so hard in the future to get the elemental smashed.
