Who: Kaiya and Faye's bodies, Devin, and Open!
When: Morning
Where: Outside of Kaiya and Faye's cottage
What: The discovery of death.

The early morning fog had covered the entire land, shielding even the most obvious things from sight. It was the reason that Kaiya and Faye's bodies were left practically untouched since the night before. They were strung up in a tree outside of their cottage with a blood-stained rope tied around each of their necks. They were limp, necks craned downward and toward one another. Their light bodies swayed a little in the slight breeze, and their small, fragile hands were holding onto each other, tied together with a piece of that same red rope. There was real blood mixed in with the fake blood on Faye's dress, and Kaiya's kimono was torn open, her chest visible through the violent tear.

Nearby lay Devin, their would-be savior. He was unconscious on the ground, and though he may have looked it he was barely injured. The fog rolled over his body, making it cool to the touch. There was a thin golden chain lying near Devin's position - a golden chain with a wooden cross upon it. Whom it belonged to was a mystery, or perhaps a clue to the culprit who committed the crime. It was a gruesome sight indeed, and though the fog partially shielded it it would only be a matter of time before an unfortunate soul stumbled upon it.

It was even possible that someone might mistake Devin as the culprit until he came awake. He himself had yet to know what had befallen the women just last night.

This morning, however, the truth could be hidden from no one who happened to stumble upon the scene of the crime. All of Elysium would eventually know of the murders of Faye Capricia and Kaiya Sato.

After the night before with Chris and Hayate, Logan was more eager than ever to spend time with Kaiya. He'd tried to connect with her in her dreams, but had no luck. Perhaps she was having trouble sleeping. He could understand that. He had terrible insomnia himself and when he was unable to enter Kaiya's dreams, he found sleep not coming to him either.

When it became early enough to not seem odd that he was out and looking for her, Logan left his and Mitsuko's cottage to stop by Kaiya and Faye's. Maybe today Kaiya would come with him back to his home, so he could paint her. It was a rather pathetic way of asking for a date without actually asking, but Kaiya had been excited about the prospect when he mentioned it before.

Filled with nerves, Logan made his way to Kaiya and Faye's. He kept his head downcast as he went. When he approached it, he finally raised his head. He felt his heart stop and the breath leave his body.

Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Logan's mouth opened in a silent cry as he fell to his knees, eyes locked on the horrific tableau. He wanted to be sick but his body was too shocked to even do that much.

Logan crawled towards the hanging bodies. He reached out, but didn't quite touch Kaiya's hanging body. There was nothing left in there. She was dead and showing his consuming woe would do no good for her. Besides, this was a murder scene. He knew better than to disturb it.

Logan had barely registered the presence of another body. He hadn't noticed they were still breathing.

He needed to find help. He needed.... Someone... With agonized movements, Logan finally got to his feet. He ran from the scene, to the nearest cottage. He began to began frantically on the door. "Somebody help!" He yelled, "HELP!"

He knew help would make no difference. Kaiya and Faye were already long dead. But he couldn't deal with this horrific sight alone.

Young Mister Zosimus didn't live in a cottage, he could not because of his shape and size. But he was out that morning. Being a young child, Sims had yet to learn the meaning of "sleeping in" like many of the adults in the herd did. No. He was up and at it when the crack of light from dawn broke through the tree line toward the East. That morning he had just been wandering through the fog, a natural occurrence that was partially a mystery to him. The brunette had no idea why the air got thick some days, he only knew that it did and it was called "fog."

At a strangled call for help, Zosimus looked up. Abraxius would have sworn the child had sonic hearing as he seemed to hear everything. When the adults were having a moment to themselves, talking quietly, the young centaur could still make out some of what they were saying. Most of their conversations had to be spelled out, which took quite a bit of time. Unfortunately that was the lads flaw, as he could not read very much or spell well at all. He was learning, but putting words together quickly, words he didn't know, was hard. Often he gave up listening when they went on to spelling.

Cantering through the fog toward the voice, Zosimus came up behind Logan first. He didn't see the bodies, one of a woman he knew and had rather missed, hanging in the trees. Damn fog. Though it was probably for the best considering his age and big heart. That same heart could very well be crushed from the scene. Sometimes growing up was really, really hard.

"What's wrong?" asked Zosimus of Logan as his hooves stopped and he stood boldly in place. He never would have imagined the man was crying for help because of a murder.

Logan was in a state of complete panic, but he was aware enough to know a ten-year-old boy should not see the terrifying sight of Kaiya and Faye's dead bodies. He whirled around to face the boy, his jaw gaped open and his breath coming in pants. "You shouldn't be here," Logan rasped out. He put his hands on Zosimus' shoulders. He couldn't just tell him to leave, but he couldn't let him see.

"Go to Town Hall," Logan said firmly, trying to keep control of his emotions. "Don't stop until you get there. Tell someone in the Council to come to Kaiya and Faye's cottage. It's... They need to come here now." He didn't want to say it was a murder. He didn't want the young boy to know what happened. "There's been... An incident. People are hurt." That was the most he could get out. He wasn't going to say they were dead. Hurt would be enough.

This man looked very stressed! Zosimus regarded him seriously as he felt his hands come down on his shoulders. Shouldn't be here? But he was the one that called for help! Sims had only responded like a good person should. Ah, well, now he could go get more help. His job here was to be done!

"Town Hall?" repeated the boy to make sure he got it right. "Okay. I'm going!" Over his shoulder he glanced in to the fog but was unable to see the figures hanging from the tree. With a deep breath he backed up and then changed directions, taking off like a shot through the wood. Zosimus was sure he had never run so fast in his entire life! By the time he reached Helicharis and the Hall, he only felt a little winded. As a young lad he was very resilient, as a centaur he had the capacity near that of a normal horse. He could have run for an hour if he wanted.

For a moment Zosimus had to pause at the bottom of the steps. An echo of the words "don't go inside buildings" filled his head, but then he also remember the horror on that man's face back at the cottages. He would have to go in and hope that Abraxius and the other centaur's forgave him.

"Excuse me! Help! There's an accident! Someone was hurt at Faye's cottage!" Because he didn't know Kaiya he could not remember all of her name by the "K." However, if the two lived together someone would surely figure out they had the same house, too. "Someone's hurt! Help!" Over the wooden floor Zosimus could hear his hooves thundering and clattering as he shuffled over stairs and inside the main portion of the building where people were. "There was an accident!" Though he sounded like a broken record repeating himself, it would get the help they needed.

Dylan was making his way down one of the halls when he heard shouting from a young boy somewhere nearby. It was not often that there was a commotion inside of Town Hall, so he immediately hurried towards the direction of the voice to seek out the young person asking for help. He saw a child centaur rushing through the hallway, calling out loudly to anyone who would listen. Dylan approached the young boy, worry creasing all of his features.

He heard the name Faye, and it was a name he knew. She was not a personal acquaintance of Dylan's, but he did know her by name. She performed occasionally in town. He had heard her name recently through another source, though Dylan could not now remember what it was. "Someone is hurt?" he asked, crouching down somewhat to be more on eye level with the young boy. "Do you know how?"

Glancing over to his side, Dylan spotted one of the Guards. "Quickly, send for one of the doctors at the medical pavilion to go to Faye Capricia's house. Someone is wounded there. Take another Guard with you to find out what happened there."

He turned his attention back to Zosimus. "Tell me what you know," Dylan said. "I will go myself once I hear your story." With such a commotion as this, it had to have been something serious.

Looking in to the man's face, Zosimus could only shake his head helplessly. "There was a man who was shouting! I went to him. When I got there he told me 'you shouldn't be here' and then told me to run here for help!" That was all he could say and he felt bad for not being able to give up more information. Dylan would be running in there blind, aside from knowing at least one person had been injured.

"He looked really scared. I didn't see what happened! He wouldn't let me." It was for the best. Yet Zosimus sighed with worry in his own, small eyes. He wanted to go and help, too, but he knew this was bigger than him.

"He said there was an accident and someone was hurt. That's all." The centaur blinked and brushed some of his longer hair out of his face to see Dylan more clearly. His hair had gained at least an inch since his last trim at the end of September.

Dylan nodded his head as he took in all of the information the little one had to tell him. "In that case, you stay here and I will go to the house in question. It's best for a young master centaur to not see whatever it is if the man there was hiding it from your eyes. Someone must be hurt badly." He smiled at the young boy, though, to show that Zosimus shouldn't let himself become too worried over the matter. "Would you like to wait here at Town Hall until we can let you know if everyone is alright?"

He wasn't sure if the boy wished to go ahead and trot home or venture elsewhere. Anyone, regardless of their age, would be worried sick about the health of the injured person. A young boy would be no different. Dylan did not want Zosimus to follow him back to the house, so offering him to stay here was the best he had in mind. Also, he wanted to know the young centaur's name. "What is your name, young man?" Dylan asked, so that he could remember it for later.

No, he didn't want to stay here. He wanted to go with Dylan back to the house! However, Zosimus was sure that wasn't one of his options and sighed. "Okay, I'll stay," he replied. It was still very early. For a moment he had thought he could wander around the shops but realized they probably wouldn't be open yet. Frowning, he looked down before back up at Dylan when he smiled. Okay, it couldn't be that bad. He would stay and hold down the fort!

"Zosimus," said the lad. "My name is Zosimus."

The other centaurs were not going to be pleased when they woke up to find out he was not in his little bed. Not pleased at all. They seemed very protective of the boy, but it was no wonder considering the race was slowly dying. He was a chance at salvation--unfortunately for the woman just killed, they would not be helping extend their own. How sad. Zosimus would also be very upset when he found out a friend had died. He'd never dealt with a death of someone he knew!

Dylan placed a hand on the centaur's shoulder as he smiled at the young man. "Stay here, Zosimus, and I will return as soon as possible." With that, Dylan made his way towards the nearest exit he could find and rushed outside of the building. There were horses outside, and Dylan untied one of the animals to mount the creature and ride off in the direction of Faye Capricia's cottage. He was certain he would arrive there at the same time as the Guards sent just a minute ago by his own orders.

When Dylan arrived on the scene, it was before the Guards. They were taking their time to get here, not believing anyone's life was in danger or that anyone's life had already been stolen. What met Dylan's eyes was not an injury of any sort, it was a horrific scene he had never before seen in all of his six hundred years of living on this earth.

He drew the horse to a halt by its reigns, struck silent by what his eyes perceived ahead. The two women, still in their costumes from the night before, had been strung up by their necks and hung lifeless from the tree's branches. A young man was already on the scene, and a second man was there on the ground, unmoving. Was he, too, dead?

Dylan dismounted his horse and hurried towards the young man, whom he recognized as Mitsuko's younger brother. "Logan," he said sharply, trying to get the boy's attention. He looked as horrified as Dylan felt inside. "Did you send the young centaur to Town Hall?"

Logan was now beside Devin. As much as he wanted to keep his focus on Kaiya, there was nothing he could do for her now. The light had left her. She was nothing but a hollow shell now. It seemed everyone Logan loved had their lives ripped from them violently. Maybe he was cursed. Maybe they all were. But Devin was still clinging to life. He could still be saved.

He nodded silently, trying to find his voice again. "I...." Logan started slowly. "I didn't want him to see," he managed out. "He's too young to see..." Tears began to stream down his cheeks. He looked down at Devin. "He's breathing."

Logan moved away from Devin to Dylan could look after him. Now that there was someone who could care for Devin, he could focus his attention on the corpses of his crush and her friend. "I was too afraid to talk," Logan whispered. He wasn't speaking to Dylan, but almost to Kaiya. "When I finally got up the courage... This happened."

Logan fell to his knees in front of the hanging bodies. "Can I cut them down?" Logan pleaded, the tears running down his cheeks unbidden. "No one should see them like this!"

He's breathing. Dylan turned his attention to the man on the ground, a first priority if he was still alive. He crossed the distance and fell to his knees beside Devin's body, lifting the man's head with one head to check him. He felt for a pulse with the other, finding a faint one beneath the skin. He smelt the alcohol on the man's breath without having to lean in and frowned greatly, wondering why the man was on the scene and what it could have possibly meant. Was a witness to the crime, and if so, why was he untouched? Did he have something to do with it, left here by his accomplice?

The second theory seemed untrue, for the man had been drinking heavily the night before. It was entirely possible he just stumbled upon the sight before anyone else, saw it, and fainted. "He is alive," Dylan said, "but I will have to wait for the doctor to help him."

The djinni aimed his gaze back at the bodies of the hanging women, unsure if they should cut them down or not. It was a crime scene, and the more they disturbed it, the less evidence they could collect. "I do not know if it is wise to cut them down yet. There may be evidence to their attacker. If we want to find that person, it is best to leave this to the professionals." Dylan was not sure if the man on the ground would awake, but he decided to try. Summoning cold water out of the air, Dylan splashed the man's face with it.

Logan felt like he couldn't breathe, couldn't move. If he were able to have his own nightmares, he would have thought this was one of his own. He bowed his head, unable to look at the hanging bodies. He desperately wanted to take Kaiya down, to hold the corpse in his arms. Maybe it wasn't her any longer, but he wanted her to know how much he had cared for her. She had such a tough life, only for it to end like this. She must have been terrified. And poor Faye... Which one had watched the other die?

It was too much to deal with. Logan's brain just couldn't handle it. He wrapped his arms around his legs, hugging his knees. He hadn't felt like this in a long time, not since he arrived at the haven. It was like something had shut off in his brain. He shut his mouth tightly, certain words would not come to him now. He had spent so much time trying to get back into the world. In an instant, that was all undone.

The man seemed to be waking somewhat with the splash of water on his face, but Dylan noticed something glinting on the grass nearby. It was golden necklace with a broken clasp and a fine wooden cross pendant. Just as Dylan came upon this discovery, the Guards arrived at the scene with doctors. Dylan stood up, ordering for the girls to be cut down and all evidence to be secured from the area. He pointed the doctor towards Devin, who was now a key witness once he woke up. Since the man was drunk and showed signs of bruising on his face, Dylan thought it was safe to assume he stumbled upon the scene and had not taken part in it. They wouldn't know for sure until they questioned him, but that would be saved for another day.

He made sure the Guards collect the necklace as evidence before he turned his attention to the young man. Logan was huddled on the ground with his arms around his legs, and Dylan eased the boy onto his feet to take him home. After that, it was up to Mitsuko what should be done next. Perhaps she might want him to visit the psychologist to talk to someone, or maybe it was just best for Logan to talk to her. Dylan was not sure on these matters, however, and he merely made sure the boy got home safely.

Afterwards, he had important things to do regarding their findings and made his way back to Town Hall as soon as possible.
