Who: Jin-Sang Connor, Rainey Nielson
Where: Outside of Jin-Sang's Helicharis cottage
When: Mid-morning
What: It's a good day to dance!

The last Halloween that Jin-Sang recalled taking active participation in was last year, his freshman term of college. The year seemed to have flown by with all that had happened, all that had been built up to be washed away. But as a marker in time came to pass, Jin-Sang was determined not to let himself be depressed. Neither of his mothers would have wanted that, he was sure, so he'd be as positive as he could. In his living room earlier that morning he'd been playing his guitar. First, he started with a warm-up to get his fingers moving and tuned the strings. Then he merely strummed lightly before picking up the pace, his sneaker tapping on the floor. At various and rather random intervals, he slapped the guitar with his palm or drummed his fingers across the surface. He felt like he was rocking out.

Then a song hit him. He didn't know it word for word, so he made up the lines he didn't know. Made up the cords, occasionally stopping to go back and fix it until it sounded right. Jin-Sang always felt better when he could get lost in the music. An hour passed and his fingers felt tired. Scolding himself for not playing more, he put his Baby Darling away and grabbed a sweater. Today he felt. . .fidgety. He felt like he had to get moving or else all would be lost. Around his house as he pulled on his sweat shirt he glanced outside. Weather seemed pretty good. Time for some fresh air--Michelle would have scolded him for being so "indoors" when he had once been an "outdoors" kind of kid.

Not that he was a cat. That would have been silly. As is he still found it awkward that he could lure people in with his voice. Often he thought he was cast in some science-fiction/fantasy movie where he was just a pawn for the bad guys. The way he had treated people in the past left a bad taste in his mouth. So he flung himself outside with his song stuck in his head, feet moving. Someone put the rhythm in that boy. "Can ya feel me? Slow it down, take your time, get'cha body doooown." Jumping over the stairs to hit the grassy ground with a thud, his feet crossed before he turned himself around. Jin-Sang hardly cared if he looked ridiculous, he was having fun and it had been a long time since he'd had some real, carefree fun.

Okay, so it was Rainey’s birthday and the day had gone fairly well! Sort of..Rainey found herself biting her lower lip when she thought about the candy jar she knocked over back at the Sweets Shop. She wondered how long the gum she had took out from her mouth would hold it together. She didn’t know if they had glue or anything here. ‘Sides, she could blame it on a kid or something. The vampire pulled her small bag close to her and laughed. Whatever, shit happened and she wasn’t going to dwell over some candy jar. She could always ‘pay’ to fix it. She had tons of weird stuff that might intrigue someone.

Rainey had a habit of smiling and observing everyone who passed her by. She wondered if she would see them at the Hollow’s Eve festival. Maybe their costumes would be quite interesting. Her father would probably look like a total dork, but technically Halloween was almost about not being yourself and having a good time doing so.

She then tilted her head slightly, probably looking like a bit of a dumbass when she heard someone singing. They had one hell of a voice so she followed it and smirked when she observed some guy dancing. He wasn’t bad or anything, but she admired how he could just dance in his yard like no one was around. Rainey danced..well..like a white girl. Not that white girls couldn’t dance. But she danced like a white girl. This dude had some grove.

The raven haired girl cleared her throat before she spoke. “Nice moves there.”

Groove? Jin-Sang liked to think he had more than just "groove." He could have won So You Think You Can Dance? if he wanted, or so said a friend of his. He, however, had no interest in that sort of thing. His training was because he loved to perform, a competition wouldn't prove that. So he danced for fun at home, around campus, in his room, in shows. Jin-Sang was there to entertain and mystify for you.

In the midst of a motion, however, a young woman coughed and spoke to him. Stepping out to the side his body came to a stop and he straightened, hands fixing the garments that had ridden up on his abs. "Thanks," he said with a smile. It was still kind of wet outside, he noticed, feet squeaking on the dewy grass. Ah well. And he realized, too, that his muscles ached from the swim the day before. Maybe he'd go to the lake around lunchtime to have a soak in the chilly water. In his mind there was only one way to make pain go away; work through it.

"Ah, you look familiar." Walking over to her with a swagger in his step, he held out a hand to introduce himself. Making friends all over the place this week. "Jin-Sang Connor."

Rainey had to squint her eyes before the good looking guy appeared familiar to her. She had seen faces come and go, but this guy was a face more familiar. Yeah, she remembered the cute faces because they were cute but this was a little on the different side. “Yeah, you do too.” She let the question of who he was leave her while she introduced herself. “Rainey Nielson. Call me Rainey..or Rain..up to you. I live at the Water Bungalows. It’s cold as fuck during the not so kind seasons.” She stated ever so bluntly. During the summer she enjoyed the warmth she could sort of enjoy without frying since Elysium could let vampires roam free and now she was freezing her ass off.

Finally, she recognized his face. “Hey! You perform at the wine bar right?” She turned a bit and laughed. “Holy shit, you know how to play on those strings. I’ve been around string players for years and I was stunned! You play so well.” If only she could sing like that. Not to mention she couldn’t play the guitar.

“Do you perform there every night?”

Smiling, Jin-Sang shook his head. "Yeah, I play there, but not every night. Couple of times a week." He gave a shrug in explanation. Honestly, he wouldn't mind playing more, but others had to get their hour of fame in didn't they? Besides, he had things to do. Or not. Maybe he'd find a second job to keep his hours busy. One could only play so much at the Wine Bar before it got tiring or old. He wasn't being paid, not that it mattered here. But there wasn't as much drive as when there was money or more people to enjoy it.

"You should get a jacket," he said with a smirk and a light tilt of his head. Very thoughtful looking. "The tailor here makes some nice ones. Doesn't take too long to spit them out, either." While he spoke so casually with this girl, his hands slipped in to his pockets. He was doing well to keep a cap on his Voice. Unless it was obvious that someone was of another race or preternatural, he had no idea and feared he'd say something alluring on accident. Not the greatest way to start off a friendship.

"Do you play ever? I think I've seen you in the crowd or on my way out, but I don't go to enjoy the music myself." Only a few times had he sat in on other performers.

Rainey gave a chuckle. “Yeah I guess a jacket is a good idea. But you see. I am addicted to hoodies. For some reason I hate jackets. But I love the Tailors so I am sure he could whip me up something bitchin’” She stated, then sat on the ground nearby with not a care in the world. “It's like they restrict movement. But hey, if it saves me from the chill, whatever.” She liked the long, black coats. The vampire was totally into them before it became ‘goth’ or ‘cool’. Oh, she missed the days when simple things she liked were considered completely bat shit freaky.

“Yeah I play. Not the guitar. I play the paino. I am better at classical or theatre. I can’t sing the good stuff if you know what I mean.” The best she could sing was perhaps Evanescence because the singer was trained in opera. Otherwise she would pierce peoples ears.

“I’ve been playing for about thirteen years.” She tapped her left fingers against her right ones. “These babies may be clumsy, but for some reason, the minute they start to play music..I’m not so much of a klutz.”

In the past JC had been friends with some of those "bat-shit freaky" kids. He didn't mind this girl, though it was quite a flashback to see her. She was very candid, as well. He smiled. Definitely a breath of fresh air to hear someone not give a damn about anything. Even the wet grass.

"I play the piano," said the American-Korean as he moved to lean against the handrail leading up to the front door. She was close enough on the grass that he wouldn't have to shout or feel awkward about standing a bit farther away. Arms crossing easily and comfortably, Jin-Sang then rest his chin atop the backs of his wrists. "I've been trying to get better, but eh. I'm better at guitar. I've been playing since I was a kid. Singing, dancing, the whole deal."

From where he stood against the banister at the end of the rail his feet picked themselves up one at a time. Why in the world, he wondered, was he so fidgety? After he put the soles of his shoes back down he stood still, leaning comfortably and a little more content. Sometimes it just happened to be one of those days. "I dunno if I'd call you a klutz, though. Unless. . .you are." He smiled warmly and charmingly at her. Jin-Sang was only teasing, of course, even if she really WAS a klutz. That book brand certainly made a lot of money, so perhaps being one of their kind wasn't so bad? The Siren could only smile and chuckle at it.

Rainey fully turned towards Jin-Sang and a thought came to her mind. “Not that you would need it or anything, but if you ever need any help, I can teach you more piano and you can teach me some guitar.” The vampire had no idea how well she would do when the strings were before her fingers, but she could imagine she would do okay since her fingers were slim.

“I learn fast, I wouldn’t be frustrating.” She promised, turning away to take out a cigarette. “You don’t mind do you? I won’t like throw the butt on your lawn or anything.” She went a whole ten minutes without one, she felt like she should have gotten some sort of reward. But Rainey was the type to at least see if people were annoyed with smoke before she lit up.

“How long have you been playing?” She thought she would ask to maybe ease the awkwardness of asking someone if she was allowed to smoke on their lawn.

Looking at Rainey considerably, he nodded. "I'd like that, I've only been working for a year or so. Behind the scenes. Nothing extreme. I just make it up as I go." If he didn't have such a good ear and instinctively knew which notes were what, he'd have had no idea where he was on the keys. "I'd like that, we'll switch off." Generally he believed if you could play one instrument you could play the other. Not that all strings were the same, especially since they were entirely different things. One used the fingers to poke at keys at various intervals, but the other had strings to pluck at. Nonetheless, Jin-Sang had hope for everyone.

"No, go ahead." The young man before Rainey wasn't a smoker himself, but he wasn't going to tell her not to. He could deal with it, some of his best friends had been smokers. He chose not to because it ruined his lungs which would, in turn, ruin his voice. "Smoke to your hearts content." He smirked before moving away from the balustrade to stand closer to the girl. "Ah, I learned when I was eight. Um," God he had to actually think about how long he'd been doing something. "Fourteen years?"

He chuckled softly. "That makes me feel old and I'm not."

The best thing about being a vampire was that Rainey could smoke all she wanted and not get cancer from it. Her father on the other hand..it made her frown a bit. But she couldn’t really worry about it. She had to let the good times roll. Just like the good feeling of the nicotine waving over her when she inhaled her first intake of smoke.

Rainey smiled as Jin-Sang moved closer to her. “Fourteen-years ey?” She picked at a slightly cold blade of grass. “I don’t think you are old at all. You barely look like you have hit twenty one. I’m not even twenty yet, so that leads me to believe I am pretty damn good with age.” She teased.

It was sometimes hard to believe that Rainey would be taking on her youthful appearance for quite sometime. She always thought aging would suck, but now she kind of craved at least aging to twenty one..oh well.

“Can you believe we will be aging in such a place as this? It feels kind of small, but many people don’t venture out as far as they could.”

Several times a friend had asked Jin-Sang if he could be hypnotized. The first time the conversation had risen he had almost gone in to a panic. Then he realized his friend was being hypothetical because he wanted to quit smoking very badly. The Siren had tried very hard not to give it a shot anyway. He wanted to help his friends who smoked and wanted to quit, but he couldn't do it for them. For one, his song wouldn't last forever. For another, it was just something people needed to overcome on their own.

"Well, I'm not old." He laughed. "I'm glad you don't think so. Twenty-two was a good age until recently." A handsome grin crossed his features as he shifted on his feet, hands finding their way to his sweatshirt pockets. "You're not yet twenty? I couldn't tell." Jin-Sang was teasing with her now, that smile on his face to show. Was he hitting on her? Possibly, but he wasn't the best in that department, so he probably was just being friendly.

"I like it, but it feels dismal," he shrugged. "There are how many of these around? That's. . .how many people left alive?" Jin-Sang didn't want to sit on the depressing thought for too long, but he couldn't help but thing of it now and then. So there were a lot of people in the haven. Big deal. Were they supposed to wait for the planet to be cleansed and then repopulate? How. . .

Jin-Sang didn't have a word for that.

Thank god, it took a lot for Rainey to blush. That and the girl already had blush on. She was one of those girls who either wore makeup one day or didn’t wear makeup for about a week and a half. If the mood struck, she would find it in her to actually get off her ass and put effort and look good. But then again? This wasn’t really a place where you expected to meet anyone…at least she thought so. Today was starting to prove her wrong. Something told the vampire Jin-Sang was good at making the ladies blush. He could play the guitar so the charming along with it would be a killer move. If he didn’t know that tactic (which she was sure he did) she better not let him in on it.

Rainey furrowed her brows when she thought about Elysium. “I know there are other sanctuaries. There must be at least a couple hundred people here. When I go to the market and it is busy, it feels like a regular market if you just try to push away you know..the apocalypse happening in the meantime.”

She hated saying it that way, but it was true. Someone had to try so hard to pretend it was just life the way it used to be. But she doubted the world would ever be free of the virus. Not to mention so many people were dying. To this day people were probably still perishing. Though it broke he heart to think about it, she always was one to think negatively before positively. She had no idea how many people were immune compared to the ones vulnerable.

If Rainey chose not to wear makeup, Jin-Sang probably would have thought her pretty nonetheless. She had good bone structure. He only could smile at her, now, and shake his head lightly. Indeed he was relatively good with the ladies, but he didn't go out and try. Until recently he'd been one busy bee, after all, going from class to class to swim practice to play rehearsal to homework to being unable to stay awake any longer and sleeping. The days were very much the same, one after one, even when he had different classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, than he did on Tuesday and Thursday. College.

"Mmm, I agree." Nodding at Rainey, Jin-Sang glanced off in to the distance for a moment. Something had rustled the trees, though he assumed it was a bird of some sort. A thought struck him and he remembered what day it was. "Say, are you going to the festival tonight?" Again, he hadn't planned on it until Adair asked if he'd be there. Maybe he would bump into some of his new friends while attending. Jin-Sang wouldn't stay long. He wasn't that sort of party guy. "If you are, are you dressing up?" Giving a light smile, he held out a hand for her to take. "That grass is going to be all over you." He doubted she wanted to have wet-butt stains. They were never pleasant.

Being a girl who liked to dress up in what people said in the nicest terms was “unusual”, Rainey was going to the festival for sure. She couldn’t go as Cinderella that was one thing. Of course unless it was something Pink came up with. She wasn’t even a huge fan of the woman as a singer, but she was a woman with some unusual attire.

“Yeah. I will be going, for friggin’ sure.” She turned towards him after she threw her cigarette far out into the road. Of course she felt bad for doing so, but she wasn’t about to put it out in her new friends yard. “I’m going as this kick ass chick from a video game named Lulu. I just hope my boobs don’t fall out and I am not caring some moogle around.” The stuffed animal was cute and her father even got one for her as a funny birthday gift, but it would be a pain in the ass to carry around, not to mention she would feel a little dumb.

She brought her butt up a little and craned her neck to see if she had a wet spot on her ass. “Oh yeah. I think I see a few spots. I like creating new trends and all. But I can’t see myself making ass stains a new one.”

She got up then put her attention fully on Jin-Sang. “Are you going? What are you going as?”

While wondering if Rainey had to add the profanity in to her language for affect, Jin-Sang looked off a bit contemplatively. Lulu. . .Lulu. . .That name sounded so familiar. As did that Moogle business, because JC was sure that wasn't something real. A game, maybe. He just couldn't remember exactly. A few of his friends had played Final Fantasy and he watched for a total of five minutes. The boy ran a busy schedule. If you asked him he probably would tell you that his fun was not having fun, literally. His days were packed with things to do and that was how he liked it. Jin-Sang enjoyed being rushed around from one place to another, not to mention he liked the things he was doing. It wasn't as if he was going to work for 16 hours a day and hating it.

"I'm sure you'll be fine," said the American-Korean with a small nod of his head. "I can't say I know who you're talking about, sorry, but working in theatre you see a lot of accidents." Not to mention the American public seemed just peachy about screwing up in daily life. Florida beaches, oh boy. "As for the wet stains, I dunno. You probably could do it. You like like the kind of girl that could." He smiled a little more with a shrug and a wave of his hand.

"Surprise," he said. "I can't tell you because I don't even know." That was actually a lie. Jin-Sang knew exactly what he was going to be. In the past he had wanted to wear the outfit but never had the time or patience to make it himself. Lauren certainly wasn't going to sew him a costume this elaborate, nor was Michelle. The tailors here, however, were pure genius. So he had gone and asked for a Korean prince uniform, giving them a full-fledged description and a crappy little sketch he'd done up himself just so they could see where things went. All in all Jin-Sang was very happy with out it had turned out. Why, you wonder, when he could have picked anything? Because he missed home. He missed Boston and Orlando, he missed learning about Korean from his biological parents. Part of him was sure they were alive--he just tried not to get his hopes up that they were in this haven. Clearly they weren't just yet, since he hadn't seen them.

"You'll just have to keep an eye out for me tonight to find out." There was mischief in his eye as he looked upon Rainey.

“You know, the mysterious thing is killing me. I hate when people do that.” Though of course she thought she was supposed to take on that role because she was a vampire. She doubted it tough since she was the biggest klutz in the world. But she guessed she could attempt it. “You know, I guess I could deal with it as long as you promise not to wear a mask.” Of course she wasn’t the boss of him. It would suck though to have to search for Jin-Sang among the many mask wearers. She was sure there would be plenty.

“I will see you there then. If you don’t show up, I may just have to come after you.” She teased. Of course she wasn’t the type to act on such things. Rainey was the one who worked at the Sweets Shop. She was quite easy to find.

“Don’t be late. I hear there will be a parade before the festivities. I look forward to seeing you. If not at the parade, just feel free to stop by the Sweets Shop when your sweet tooth hits at you.”

She dusted herself off and gave a wide smile. “I hope to see you soon.” There was an equal mischievous glint in her eye before she turned away from Jin-Sang and went to head on her way home.
