Who: Echo and OPEN
When: afternoon.
Where: the Wine Bar.
What: Echo sneaks in.

Echo was not in the mood to go home just yet, so when people's attention were not on her, she hurried out of the library. Once she was free, the rush of excitement hit her. What to do now? She only paused for a second before starting to walk down the road. Her gaze met the Wine Bar and then she had her idea. Maybe not so many people would be there, but that was just a chance she had to take. She entered the building a minute later and ducked to the tables at the back wall, farthest away from the bar. If she was here, people weren't as likely to notice her. Hopefully.

She rested her feet on the bar supporting the chair legs, neon yellow tights all too obvious below her capri trousers. There were several people sitting around the place, some sitting together and others looking at their drinks as if they possessed some secrets of the universe. Echo had no idea why they preferred to sit alone when talking to someone was much more enjoyable. There needed to be major upbeat music here and perhaps that was only a matter of time before it happened. For now, she looked around and tried to determine who seemed like they could do with a bit of conversation.

Dione rarely noticed anyone, but there was an obvious reason for that. An extremely obvious reason for that. At the moment, she was trying to decide whether or not she was going to play or sit down and simply listen. Just sitting and listening was something that she didn't normally do because she was not truly interested in what one could hear in a bar; however, there was something to be said for being up on the local gossip. Well, not much of something, but something just the same. Either way, she made her way into the Wine Bar with her usual casual seeming diffidence.

People took it for diffidence, really it was just caution. Walking into things was painful enough. Doing so in front of other people just compounded one pain on top of anything in the form of social ridicule. Granted, she did have the given out of being utterly blind and thus liable to walk into things, but that didn't help the feeling of mortification that went through her veins whenever she did such a thing. So she walked into the bar, cane tapping out its own unique rhythm as she moved to the piano.

Moved to, but didn't actually set her hands on the keys. Others who had seen her would probably note that as an odd behavior as normally she just walked in and started to play whatever her current fancy was. However, for the moment, she simply sat there with her cane in her hands, listening quietly to the motions and discussions going on around her.

It was impossible for Echo not to notice Dione enter the bar and sit at the piano. There was something about her behavior that was different and a brief period of time elapsed before she realized what it was. Her hesitance to play intrigued her more than anything and she rose from her seat to walk slowly over to the piano. "Hello," she said, keeping her voice somewhat quiet in case she startled the woman. "Don't you want to play anything? What kind of things do you play?" She knew that she was in a risky position as she exposed herself for anyone to catch her.

She wished she had any sort of piano lessons and her fingers rested gently on the higher keys, pressing one of them to emit a soft note. "I wish I knew how to play pretty songs. I just make things up." She pressed another couple of keys to make a short but oddly pleasing little tune. "Sorry, I'll let you play." Stepping back a little, Echo slipped her hands behind her awkwardly and tried not to look too embarrassed. She may have been out of her element but she wanted to make more friends and she hoped that this woman wouldn't mind.

Dione was getting better about dealing with energetic people, those who spoke and then seemed to keep speaking even though the person they were talking to had not made any attempt to answer them. Energy wasn't a bad thing and as long as she listened carefully enough to pick up everything that was said and could answer some of it, then things were fine. It was when she got lost in the sound of someone's voice and stopped hearing the words that she was in a little trouble as far as conversations went.

Coming in and sitting at the piano without actually playing anything had garnered more of a response than many of the times when she had come in and started to play.

Did she realize that Echo was too young to be in a bar? There was a little bit of suspicion as her voice didn't betray her as sounding all that old, but that could be deceiving, so Dione would say nothing about it. After all, some simply matured into voices that weren't much different from those of children.

"If you want to learn, then I have no problem teaching you." It bypassed most of the initial conversation because the question of what did she play was moot. She played just about anything and everything that she knew the tune to. That could be anything from grand concertos, operas, and an entire portfolio of classical music to the theme songs to television shows that were in syndication back when there was TV. Dione moved to lean her cane carefully against the side of the piano so she would know where it was before putting her hands on the keys and playing the scale with both hands one octave apart. A little bit of a stretch, but certainly not difficult to match a C with a C and so forth.

Not everyone answered her right away and Echo figured that the woman was just getting used to listening to her speak so much. She looked forward to experimenting with playing the piano, but it seemed like Dione had a monopoly on the instrument. Hoping that the woman wouldn't mind, she sat down on the bench in front of the piano and smiled at her. "I'd really like to learn. Thank you very much!" she said. Her gaze dropped to the keys as Dione started to play and found that it wouldn't be too difficult - Echo tried to replicate the playing of one of the scales, higher up on the keys.

She stopped as thoughts started to pile into her mind. "Do you know the song 'All the Small Things' by Blink-182? I know it's an old song, but it's a fun one. Sort of fast paced, so I don't know if it will be possible to play it on the piano," she said. With that, she hummed the first verse aloud and looked at Dione expectantly. "Or maybe we can try something else, like Can you feel the love tonight? That song is so pretty!" Maybe she was just a sucker for romantic songs like that and more than ever, wanted to hear the chords of the tune resonate throughout the room.

"Very good," the action of mimicking the teacher was one of the first things that anyone was taught to do. First you mimic the teacher and learn your scales. That made learning to read music so much easier. That was something she was going to have to figure out, how to teach someone to read music. She wasn't capable of it herself anymore, so how she was going to teach that to someone else, was a question. Oh well, one would cross that bridge when they came to it.

Blink 182 had not exactly been one of her favorite bands, but with a little assistance, she could certainly play it. The action to change songs was automatic. One might even think of her as a human jukebox sometimes. If you could give her something to work with, she could at least try. Eventually, she might even get good at that particular song.

Can you feel the love tonight she was very familiar with and she even liked that one some. "Elton John," she could certainly play Elton John. She even knew the words to the song itself, though she wasn't feeling quite comfortable enough to sing.

Echo grinned. "Really? Oh, yay!" She liked to hear that this was a good start and wondered what exactly the woman was playing. That was a point; she needed to introduce herself. "My name's Echo. What's yours?" The older woman was so pretty, whoever she was, and Echo almost felt inferior compared to her. She hoped that their lessons could continue after this first once, but there was going to be a problem if there weren't any other pianos in the area as she would not be allowed in here again. It probably was not going to be long before someone found her.

The recognition of Elton John was a good start and she figured she had a better chance of learning that song. "Can you play that one, please?" she asked as politely as she could. She would need to go slowly of course, piece by piece, but she hoped that once she started, it wouldn't be too hard to follow. It was an easy song to listen to, but it might be a different matter to play it. One of the notes she'd played in the scale sounded similar to the start of the song and she was curious. Learning anything took time although she was impatient to do so.

"It's Dione," she answered Echo's request for her name with an easy grace as she started to play the opening notes to the familiar song. She knew the words, but she wasn't quite comfortable enough to start singing at this point. After all, that would mean drawing more attention to herself than she was truly interested in. At the moment, though Echo had been drawn to her, she was more than happy to be alone with her thoughts and the music.

Things kept creeping up on her. Well, not so much creeping up as refusing to allow her to forget about them. Like the fact that her brother was as dead as her parents. Part of her wanted to forget that piece of information and another had latched onto it so completely that there was no way that she could possibly forget. It hurt, terribly.

Notes drifted through the air and her thoughts kept turning to the one person she didn't think she could live without but knew that she was always alone even when he was there. "Is there a specific song you want to learn or is it the basics?"

Something about the woman lulled Echo's talkativeness and she just watched Dione play for a minute, lost in the song. She began to hum quietly as the song continued and had there been any room, she might have danced. It was a shame that Charlie wasn't here, otherwise she would have slow danced with him. Oh well, it didn't matter at the moment. Dione played with sadness etched on her face and Echo wondered what made her unhappy. Maybe it was not her place to ask, but she wanted to help in some way.

"Well, if you could teach me this song, I'd really like it," Echo answered. "I don't want to take up any more of your time. Besides..." Now her voice dropped to a much quieter volume. "The bartender's starting to look at me funny, I think. Too bad I can't pass as your cousin." Seeing as they looked nothing alike. "Maybe I should go before I get into any more trouble. It was nice meeting you, Dione!" With that, she darted out of the Wine Bar and back to the forest cottage, hoping that this wouldn't catch up to her some day.
