Who: Voe and OPEN
Where: Helicharis, by the Medical Pavilion
When: early afternoon.
What: Voe remembers.

The blade of the knife pressed against the skin only a moment before breaking it, blood leaking from the wound. Vanessa met Alix's eyes calmly, unbelievably composed even though there were so many wounds across her body. "Your disgraceful primitive actions envoke no fear within me," Vanessa stated to her enemy. "Victory will never be within your grasp, Alix Preth."

A flash of anger shot across Alix's face and she plunged her knife into Vanessa's stomach, dragging it upwards another few inches, before she smiled. Twisted smile, venomous smile. "Guess what? You're wrong," she said and Vanessa closed her eyes, a small shriek of pain leaving her lips. A sound of defeat.

"Mother!" Voe screamed.

And then she awoke.

Another dream of the past, a nightmare remembering the worst point of her life. Voe started to have them more frequently after her birthday, which she obviously did not celebrate with her mother. A year, yet another year, stretched before her and she realized now that she had failed in becoming a vampiress of which Vanessa could be proud. She could dress the part and try to act accordingly, but she had no group of vampires and few allies for support. She disliked the other vampires she had met - one to rival Alix Preth, another cowardly - and her only comfort was that she found a pure soul in both Volcano and Janus.

She left her forest cottage after she had eaten breakfast/lunch, vaguely noticing that Nathaniel was not in, and wandered in the direction of the town. Perhaps immersing herself around people would help her ignore the fact that she was alone. The journey took a while - she did not care - and she stood in the middle of the road near the Medical Pavilion. A glimmer of gold caught her eye and she stared at the long blonde hair of the woman walking a short distance away from her. It was similar to her mother.

Voe hurried to the woman, hoping against hope - no, knowing - that her mother had found a way to come back to her. She closed the distance between them, reached out her hand to grasp her shoulder and... it was not Vanessa. Voe stepped back and let go, heart sinking to her stomach and throat swelling with grief and disappointment. She had been so sure...

She remained where she stood only for a moment and then she fell to her knees with her head buried in her hands.

“Hey son, let’s go hiking.” James said in a mocking tone looking over at his father. His lip was split, he had a fairly deep cut on his forehead and various bruises on his body. “Really dad? Really? Who the hell comes up with hiking in areas that scream “James will nearly kill himself!” James was limping slightly too, swearing he was suffering a broken bone somewhere. If it was on his ass, he’d die of embarrassment. “Probably were trying to kill me.”

Peter was highly amused at his sons misfortune. “You tripped on a set of rocks, son. We weren’t even at the part where we were attempting to climb the small hill.” God, his son was such a complainer. One fault in a plan of his and his son would go crazy. The weather was nice and he thought they would have a moment to actually get along, but his sons own clumsiness brought them to an almost epic downfall.

They headed to the Medical Pavilion in order to patch up the cut on James’ forehead. It had bled pretty badly and Peter had not laughed about that. He knew enough about injuries to know James probably just needed ice to the ankle to ease the pain of the limping. He could see quite a few bruises and after the amusement of the event he would indeed be concerned in making sure his sons bruises were looked at as well.

When they got close to Medical Pavilion they saw a rather unique looking woman looking quite sad. Peter was the first to step forward. “Are you okay?” James stood behind his father, making sure she didn’t jump up suddenly or anything.

The smell of a couple of people grew closer and stronger and she rose from the ground, eyes fiery and set upon the two men. Had she been in a better state of mind, she might have realized that they had no ill intention. Why were they in her space? Couldn't they see she wanted to be left alone? "No!" Voe shouted, stepping back with her head feeling light. It was almost as if she was about to faint, but she had to be strong... Stay awake. "You're not my mother! Go away!" Her voice was quieter, but no less panicked as she addressed them.

One more step back and she suddenly stumbled onto the ground. Her hands flew out behind her to break her fall, though nothing was hurt except her pride. Voe pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her forehead against them. Failed, she had failed. She should find Rion - later. Right now she didn't want to do anything except sit here and hide. It was impossible to hide in the middle of the road, but she didn't care. Voe was acting childish, she knew, but despair gripped the very core of her being and now she could do nothing.

What was the point of continuing life in this manner if she did not live up to her mother's expectations? The realization that she was nothing without her mother by her side, physically present, struck her harder than ever and her hands clenched tightly into fists. She hated herself. She was awful - no, people were awful - she had no idea anymore. If only there was some hope of reassurance that things were going to get better... Crying would not help her, but she certainly wanted to do it right now.

The first thing Peter wanted to do was question what troubled the woman so much to be in this kind of state. He found himself crouching to be at the woman’s level and he tried to find some sort of eye contact. The therianthrope made sure his voice was terribly soft when he spoke to her. “I’m certainly not your mother, but I can do my best in at least advising you to relax because you look somewhat ill.” The older of the two openly suggested. “I know it may not be the business but perhaps let me help you towards being at a more comfortable place.”

James tried to find humor in the situation. Not the woman’s state of mind, but he tried to make her feel better. “Hey uh. Be glad he isn’t your mother. I’m sure she was much better looking.” Peter looked back at him with a furrowed brow and James cleared his throat and looked for a comforting place to sit.

“Yeah-uh. We could always sit on the grass or you know. The Medical Pavilion always works if..uh..,you need medical..uh sorts of assistance.”

James would be the type to randomly tell her that she looked so awesome he thought she was straight out of a comic book. But he was at least wise enough to know that the current moment was not the time. Instead he followed his dad’s lead for once in trying to get her to trust them in talking to the two of them. “I feel your pain on a bad day. I mean-not that my day is worse. I just fell and suck at hiking. But though you might want to be alone, you are at least in the good company of people stuck in the event of a bad day.”

After her initial emotional outburst, Voe felt shamed and the feeling grew as the two did not leave as she originally thought they would. What to do now? She raised her head and used all her self-discipline to refrain from crying. She was unable to meet his gaze and instead sat more properly on the ground as she listened to him speak. Advising her to relax? Relaxing was not going to bring her mother back nor change anything about the situation. "You do not know me well enough to say I look ill," she said coldly, assuming he referred her albinism. No area was comfortable for her here, at least not enough to put her at ease. Try as she might, Voe couldn't stop a couple of tears from leaking down her face and she turned her face away in a futile attempt to hide it from the man.

The younger man - his son, they had a similar smell - said something about her mother and she glared at him, eyes flashing dangerously. "Of course my mother was more attractive." She stood up suddenly then, flicking her hair behind her shoulder as an attempt to regain her superiority. Did she really want to sit on the grass with these two? "I have no injury." He continued to speak about feeling her pain, though how could he? His simple accident during a hike was nothing compared to her missing her mother and failing at being a bloodseeker, at least physically versus mentally.

Emotions still reeled around inside her and she decided to head for the outskirts of town, all thoughts of meeting Rion forgotten. She needed to get out and away from people as quickly as possible... at least for now. Her pace was not as quick as it usually was so the two had an opportunity to catch her should they want. The way she saw it, there was no reason for them to follow her.

James paused for a moment, unsure of what he was going to say. No sound came from his throat for a moment, but finally he called out to her. “Wa-wait!” he looked back at his father and made an obvious head motion for him to follow. James sometimes fumbled his tongue into odd wording and the last thing he would have wanted to do was make a mistake in such a crucial moment. His father slowly walked behind his son cautiously.

“Listen, you..may not..have external injury..but..you.” he coughed. James tried not to suck at this part and he looked back at his father in warnings for him to shut up and not step in. “But like. Internal crap sucks a lot too.” He said it almost through his teeth. Like he was afraid she would get upset at him. There was no way he was going to let the vampire walk away without at least proving that he was making an attempt to help her. If she grew tired an angry, he would understand and let her go.

“We could at least accompany you to wherever you are going.” Peter offered and James looked back at him.

“Dad? Hello? Covered. What part of the "I can do this” glare did you not get?” Peter put his hands up in apology. Maybe it was more towards the stranger since his son sucked at this.

She had no idea why he wanted to help her when she did nothing to earn his assistance. Perhaps the confidence of youth boosted his spirits somehow and for that, she would give him the benefit of the doubt. Voe set her eyes upon James, frowning ever so slightly. His words confused her and it took a few moments to realize what he said. Inner pain was indeed harder to heal although she wasn't sure about it sucking. How could it? "I dreamt of Alix Preth torturing my mother to death," Voe told him. "The images are forever burned into my mind."

Everything was much too jumbled and she looked in the direction of the end of town, the expression on her face growing more troubled. "I will return to my cottage." If they wanted to join her, so be it, but she doubted she'd talk much. The longing to see her mother once more was still great and powerful, making her sick to her stomach. Perhaps she could lure the son over to her side with her (very blunt) charm. "Your attempt to comfort me is admirable," she told James. "It is a great assurance to have an honorable escourt and his father." Voe nodded her head once in Peter's direction before heading down the path that eventually led to the forest cottages.
