Who: Mitsuko, Chris and Logan
When: Late afternoon / early evening
Where: Mitsuko and Logan's Cottage
What: Logan gets ready for the Gray-Raokas Dinner Party and Mitsuko has some "girl talk" with Chris

"Logan!" Mitsuko called up the stairs. She was smiling up at her brother. "You better get yourself ready! Chris is going to be here any moment for your date!"

Logan slipped out of his room, his dress shirt half-buttoned and his hair mussed. "It's not a date," he rasped out, his cheeks turning pink. "Maddy just asked us over. Charlie's going to be there and lots of others."

Mitsuko was still getting used to Logan talking-- and thus, talking back-- to her. She let out a small laugh. "Yeah, well, Chris is coming all the way over here to walk with you to Malcolm's, which is a lot closer to her place than yours. That sounds date-like. Now come on! Get ready! Look as handsome as possible."

Mitsuko wrinkled her nose as she went back to the sofa to sit. She couldn't believe what was going on around. Her own shy, nervous brother had a date, the same day as her ice queen of a mother. And she did not. There was definitely something wrong with the world.

At least there was one advantage to Logan taking so long to get ready. If Chris arrived soon, it would Mitsuko a chance to talk to the girl about Hayate. She needed to find out all she could about the vampire, before she made her next move.

Chris knocked on the door to Mitsuko and Logan’s cottage, rocking back and forth on the soles of her feet as she waited for someone to answer the door. She had walked all the way into town to pick up Logan, a gesture of good-will on her part. It was her way of making up for the fight she had with the half-kitsune a couple of weeks ago. Though Chris was very angry with Logan then, she still cared about him and didn’t like the fact that they had fought at all. Chris also didn’t like the idea that Logan was angry with her, but she wasn’t the type to apologize right away if she didn’t think she had done anything wrong in the first place.

The young girl took a deep breath, and smoothed her fingers through her hair. The humidity in the air was making it frizz out all over the place, and she absolutely hated it when that happened. Chris reached into her purse to pull out a rubber band to tie her hair back, pulling the golden strands into a low ponytail that hung over her left shoulder. She only wore a little bit of make-up today (a habit she was getting into lately) – some mascara, blush, and colored lip-gloss – and her choice of clothing could be described as semi-casual. The chill in the air prompted the girl to wear a pink cashmere, turtleneck sweater. It clung to all the right curves of her developing body, and it wasn’t all torn up like some of the tee-shirts she had in her drawers. Chris wore nice jeans for the dinner party (there was no point in wearing slacks in the rain), only to be coupled with tennis shoes since it was going to be a hell of a walk back to the forest cottages.

Chris had on a black jacket as well; more layers to fend off the cold. Overall, the girl looked extremely cute, and it had not even crossed her mind that going to the dinner party with Logan looked like a date. It wasn’t a date in her mind; it was just her picking up her friend to go eat some food at another friend’s house. Not a date in the slightest. Besides, she couldn’t date Logan! He was practically her brother!

She knocked on the door again . “Hello?” Chris called out this time just in case they hadn’t heard her knock.

Mitsuko heard the knock at the door and jumped to her feet to answer it. She hadn't gotten to spend a lot of time with Chris, but she was fond of the girl. Besides, it seemed like Logan was quite taken with her-- be it romantically or just familial. If Mitsuko wanted to take care of Logan, she had to take care of those he thought of as precious. Recently, it seemed like Chris was the one he thought of as most precious.

She opened the door and beamed at Chris. "K-chan!" Mitsuko said happily. She knew Chris' name started with C, but she liked nicknames and in Japanese, Chris would be written with a K. "Genki desu ka?" She asked, stepping out of the way so Chris could enter the house. Mitsuko followed behind her. "Logan's still getting ready... He's spent most of the afternoon getting all handsome." She looked Chris over. "Of course, he'll look great as long as he's with you. You look fantastic."

Mitsuko was dressed casually herself, in a short skirt and a large, oversized sweater. It had a large neckline on it, to show off the scar on her neck. It was not left from her encounter with Hayate-- that had been healed by Theora. It was the mark left from her first vampiric encounter, in Germany. She normally hid it using her powers, but she had chosen to leave it open-- even make it look newer-- for the purposes of her talk with Chris. She might be required to jolt the girl. Right now, the scar was covered by her long, dark hair.

"So are you doing all right?" Mitsuko asked in English this time. "I know you and Logan have been having some problems lately. He's been tearing himself up over it."

Chris smiled brightly when the door opened and Mitsuko greeted her with her nickname. Well, it wasn't so much a nickname as it was shortened? And with a 'K' instead of a 'C'. Though Chris supposed that 'K-chan' sounded better than 'C-chan' at any rate. Mitsuko spoke some Japanese, and thankfully it was part of the some that Chris understood.

"Genki desu!" She replied, practicing the very little bit of Japanese that she knew. Maybe she could get Hayate to teach her sometime, or even Mitsuko if she was up for it. Chris had nothing but time on her hands these days except for the occasions where she spent time with Hayate; but that was her special secret, and she hadn't told anyone about her encounters with the vampire, not even her twin.

"He's still getting ready?" Chris said in disbelief. "Oh my god, he took longer than me! And I'm a girl!" The young girl laughed as the door closed behind her, blushing a little at Mitsuko's compliment. Chris didn't think she looked fantastic, but she did think she looked cute, and definitely ready for a dinner party. It was better than her usual torn jeans and a tee-shirt, right? "Thank you," she said finally in response. "I wanted to look okay for the dinner party without having to wear a skirt. It's cold out there!"

She made a small 'brrr' sound to emphasize just how cold it was. "I don't know how you can wear a skirt even inside!" Chris didn't notice the vampire bite on Mitsuko's neck, and even if she had she probably wouldn't have mentioned it at all. It wasn't her scar to point out, and if Mitsuko wanted to talk about it then she would bring it up in time.

Her head tilted to the right slightly at Mitsuko's question, and she sighed in exasperation when Mits spilled the rest of the beans. "Logan and I got into a fight. It's not a big deal. I apologized, he apologized." She shrugged here without taking her eyes away from the kitsune. "We're okay now. I don't understand why he'd be tearing himself up over it, though. I mean, it's not like I'm mad at him anymore."

Even though Chris was a girl, things were simple in her mind. She didn't think too much on the situation between her and Logan because it didn't bother her anymore. If it had then she wouldn't even be at his cottage to walk with him to the dinner party.

Mitsuko knew the girl didn't speak Japanese, but she was aware she was Akiba-kei, thus would have a few stock phrases in her memory. She could tell from the enthusiastic reply, Chris was very happy to be able to use it. If the girl asked, Mitsuko would have very gladly taught her Japanese. She didn't much like the idea of her mother tongue (she winced inwardly at the use of the phrase, considering her earlier encounter with her mother) dying out. She wanted to make Chris comfortable. The last thing she wanted was for Chris to think she was grilling her for information on Hayate. Even if that's what she was doing. But Mitsuko was manipulative. She could get what she needed.

She gave a small shrug at Chris' comment on Logan taking so long to get ready. She actually thought it was really cute he was taking such care in his appearance. "Well, it's taken him a long time to figure out what to wear. The boy is hopeless with picking out clothes. I had to help." She sighed. "I've had to do that a lot today. My mother needed a dress for a date..." She sighed. "I'm so jealous...." She wrinkled her nose. "Mother has a date, Logan has a date... But instead of hanging with Loki, I'm going to go and change into my maid's uniform and serve people I don't know coffee."

She looked down at her bare legs at Chris' comment about the cold. "Yeah?" She thought about it and shrugged. "I dunno. I guess the cold doesn't bother me all that much. Maybe I'm just used to it." She did wear skin-baring clothing most of the time. "And I like showing off what I have going for me."

Mitsuko nodded knowingly. She, of course, knew about the fight. And she knew they had apologized to each other (she'd been the one to find the note to Logan). But she knew that the situation was much more complicated than that, perhaps even more complicated than either of the teenagers knew. Her expression was faux-innocence, although she had perfected over the years so the falsity of it would be unnoticed the girl. "I probably shouldn't tell you this, I mean, Logan will kill me, but...." She lowered her voice. "He's jealous, K-chan. Of Hayate-kun. Because you guys have been hanging out. I think maybe... Logan's worried about losing you to another guy."

She held up a hand, knowing what she was suggesting with what she said. "I know you guys are just friends. You and Logan. But that doesn't mean he doesn't get jealous over... Well, someone he thinks you might like more than him. Believe me, I know guys can get majorly territorial even without romance involved." She looked a bit curious. "There isn't romance involved, is there? With you and Logan or you and Hayate-kun? I haven't completely missed that, have I? I figured I know if you and Logan had something going. And Hayate..." She sighed. "Well, I could understand something going on there. I've met him a couple times at the cafe. He's gorgeous."

Chris only liked to speak the few Japanese phrases she knew to people she was familiar with. If there was any foreign language that the girl was most comfortable speaking it was German. It was technically her first language considering that her parents spoke it often at home. She learned English as well, and soon that became her primary language once she began going to school.

She listened intently as Mitsuko spoke, her attention was focused so that the kitsune didn't think she was rude. She thought it was interesting that Mitsuko's mother had a date, though she gave the strangest look to Mits when she said that Logan had a date.

"Logan has a date," she asked curiously before she realized that the older girl was talking about Logan and Chris going out together. "Oh, well this isn't a real date or anything," Chris said with a shake of her head. "We're just going to eat at Maddy's." Chris didn't think it was a big deal, but she got the feeling that Mitsuko (and therefore Logan) thought otherwise. She didn't say anything though, and she kept her face neutral until Mitsuko mentioned Hayate's name.

Her expression turned a little serious at the revelation that was made to her. It wasn't anything that revealed the true circumstances between herself and Hayate; rather, it bordered annoyance. It figured that Logan would blab about it to his sister, but what did Mits hope to accomplish by telling Chris about Logan's jealousy?

"Logan is being stupid," she said with a roll of her eyes. "No offense cause he's your brother and all, but just because I'm friends with another guy doesn't mean I'll stop being friends with him. I don't know how many times I need to tell him that." She let out an aggravated sigh, but only because her loyalty was being questioned. "And no, there is no romance, anywhere." Not that Chris would know if there was. She hadn't been in a romantic relationship before, and as far as she knew the situation with Hayate wasn't romantic. At least, not how romance was traditionally depicted in the movies.

It was true that Mitsuko was manipulative, and that she had ways of getting information out of people. But the problem with the kitsune's tactics was that Chris didn't think there was anything wrong with her relationship with Hayate, and she didn't see it as anything beyond friendship. It was true they had kissed and done other things, but Chris didn't qualify it as anything more than being friends. She knew that she liked him (a lot), but she wasn't going to reveal that to Mitsuko, not with the way she and Logan apparently talked about stuff.

Mitsuko tried to take things carefully. She knew she'd already worked the girl up and if Chris was mad, there was going to be no getting answers out of her. Mitsuko needed her to relax. She let out a small laugh. "That's exactly what Logan said. That it isn't a date." She shrugged slightly. "But a guy and a girl go out together.... Maybe I'm just a bit old-fashioned." It was a bit of a joke, as Mitsuko was anything but old-fashioned. "I'm his big sister. I have to tease you two a bit, you know." She gave Chris a smile. "But I'm still jealous. Even if it's not a date, it's still more exciting than my plans for the evening."

She matched Chris for seriousness now. The irritation in the girl's voice was unmistakeable. Mitsuko could feel her protectiveness for her little brother swell up. "But he's not being stupid, K-chan," Mitsuko's voice was quiet and calm. She didn't want to upset Chris any more. "I mean, he is, but... Look at it from his side. With what happened outside Elysium, we all lost things. But Logan... Logan actually watched his parents die." Mitsuko knew only from second hand information, but Chris would have seen the death of the Nagamoris herself. They had been particularly brutal, not by virus, but by war. "And from what I've heard, before you and Charlie... His parents were the only people he had. For Logan, being what he is... It's not easy." She took a deep breath. "Hybrids aren't treated all that kindly by most Kitsune. And most humans are just afraid of them. He's always been alone. Been taught to hide himself, just to stay safe." She poked Chris in the shoulder with a gentle finger. "But you got in. You're a very precious person to him. And when all you know is losing people, you get protective of the few you have."

Mitsuko shook her head. "I'm not saying you shouldn't have other friends. Believe me. You're a cute and sweet girl and you should have all the friends you can get." She paused. "Logan came here broken. And it's up to the people who love him to help him get fixed. And even if there's no romance there, I know you do love him. Maybe just... Try to spend some more time with him. I haven't seen you guys hanging out a lot lately. He'll probably lighten up if he realizes he's not losing you."

She gave Chris a small smile. "There. My big sister talk for the day." She gave Chris a smile. "And I'm glad to hear you and Hayate aren't involved. Older guys can be a lot of trouble." There was a glint in her eye, an expression to Chris like she might know more than she was saying. "He is older, ne? I mean, he does look young but... You can never tell with praeternaturals, can you?"

Chris supposed she could understand where Logan was coming from. She was pretty protective of her friends, too, and she didn't want to lose them to anyone or anything. Maybe Logan had a right to be afraid of losing her, but that didn't mean he had to get all jealous, did it? Still, Chris nodded at Mitsuko, her expression softening up immensely. "I guess," she said, a typical response from a teenage girl. "I do care about Logan, and we haven't hung out as much, so I'll make plans for us to hang out and stuff. Get Charlie in on it, too." Their friendship never consisted of just Logan and Chris, but it was Logan, Chris, and Charlie. As far as Chris was concerned, this was about all of them, and not just her and Logan.

Mitsuko's comment about Hayate confused Chris. Just because there wasn't romance (in Chris's terms at least) didn't mean they weren't involved with one another. Why was Mitsuko so interested in Hayate anyway? Did she want to be involved with him, or something? "All of my friends are older than me," Chris said with a quirky grin that didn't reveal her confusion or the questions running around in her mind. "Except Echo and Maddy." She laughed a little. "So does that mean all of my guy friends who are older than me are a lot of trouble? Including Logan?" Her lips curled into a smirk as her blue eyes sparkled with mischief. Age was not a subject that often came up between Chris and Hayate, and the one time it did it brought up hurt feelings for the both of them. Chris didn't bring it up again after that night, and neither did the vampire. Her youth wasn't something that bothered him, and his age (though she didn't know what it was exactly) didn't bother Chris either.

She laughed a little more, and then shrugged. "My parents always said that you can't judge a book by its cover, and age is just a part of the cover. It's not fair stereotyping people because of it."

Mitsuko smiled softly. She wasn't exactly certain what was going on with Logan and Chris-- and there was indeed something going on, despite what Chris had said. Whatever Logan felt for her would complicate their friendship. Perhaps Logan's feelings were just a manifestation of his loneliness. Focusing on one person because of a lack of friends. If Chris and Charlie were to spend time with him, maybe he would lighten up. "I think Logan would like that. You two are very precious to him." She sighed. "Emily-san is great and I adore Echo-chan, but I really wish the Council had let you guys come live here. I think it would have been fun."

Mitsuko considered what Chris had said. She seemed to misunderstand. "I meant involved as in romantically. Believe me, I've been with Hayate before..." She paused for a moment, just letting Chris get a hint that she and Hayate had an encounter. "I mean, guys like Hayate. And it can get...." She flipped her hair over her shoulder casually, revealing the bite scar on her neck. Her expression showed no sign of the revelation, as if she were unaware of it. "...Messy." She smiled sweetly. "I mean, if you're not ready for that sort of relationship. When you're young and not ready, having things go badly... Well, it can scar you."

She smiled and gave Chris a light tap on the shoulder. "But you're smart. And you know if you ever need to talk to someone... I'm here." She leaned in. "And I promise girl-to-girl confidentiality. Logan won't know a thing."

Chris loved Logan like a brother, and while she might have had a crush on him before (way back in the day) she didn't have those feelings anymore. In fact, none of those feelings even existed in her now. It might have complicated their friendship, and if she and Charlie had lived there it might have made things even worse. She wasn't sure if it would have even been fun considering what she now knew of Logan's jealousy, but she smiled and agreed Mitsuko's comment anyway. "Yeah, it would've been, but I guess the Council had their reasons."

The kitsune's next words caused an odd look to form upon Chris's face. Been with Hayate, or guys like Hayate? What exactly did she mean by that? Chris stared at Mitsuko's face relentlessly, and she didn't even notice the scar on the fox's neck despite the purposeful hair flip. Her brow furrowed, and her mouth hung open in an expression of confusion though she really wasn't confused at all. "What do you know about Hayate?" Her skepticism was clear in her voice. "You just said you've only met him a couple of times at the café, so how can you know what he's like just from that?" Chris crossed her arms in a defiant manner. She didn't like Mitsuko implying that Hayate was trouble, and Chris would defend him in every way possible. Plus, she definitely didn't like the implication the fox made that she had been 'with' him. Did Mits like Hayate or something? The idea didn't sit well with Chris at all.

"Look, Hayate is my friend and I know him better than you. He's not like whatever you seem to think he is."

The relationships of teenagers were so complicated. Perhaps that was why Mitsuko had avoided them so much. Her only true relationship as a teenager had resulted in her nearly getting killed. She would die if that happened to Logan. She wanted to protect him as much as she could. She knew that wasn't possible. He would get into trouble, experience heartache... But at the very least she could try to ease things with Chris. But it seemed things were spinning out of control.

While she wasn't sure of Chris' romantic feelings for Hayate, if any... She could tell she was close to the vampire. Too close. Even a friendship was dangerous. He had tried to kill her brutally. That was not a friend an innocent young girl should have. "He's older and mysterious," Mitsuko said, blinking innocently. She smiled at Chris. "I'm just teasing, K-chan." She gave Chris another tap on the shoulder. "Come on... You know I never say anything serious. Don't worry so much."

Mitsuko cocked her head. "What is he like? I find him to be a bit of a puzzle."

The more Mitsuko spoke, the more Chris grew suspicious of the kitsune's seemingly innocent intentions. No, Chris didn't have a clue that Mits was trying to get information on Hayate for purposes of revenge, but she was beginning to think that Logan had put his sister up to the task of grilling Chris for info. That only made the girl more upset, but she didn't reveal it in any specific way.

Chris didn't believe Mitsuko when she said she wasn't serious. A minute ago the fox was as serious as she'd ever seen, speaking about Hayate as if she knew oh so much about him. It was odd for the kitsune to go from one extreme to the other, but if Mitsuko wanted to put up that front then Chris would go along with it. The young human girl smiled at the light tap on her shoulder. "I'm a teenager and I have angst," she said in response. "Or something," she added with a shrug. "We're supposed to be emo and stuff." A joke would lighten the mood, but it didn't mean that Chris was going to open up any more.

She blinked at Mitsuko's question, and it only confirmed to the young girl that the kitsune was digging for information on Hayate for her brother. "Hayate's really nice," she said with a genuine grin. It was the truth in Chris's mind and so she didn't feel that she was lying to Mitsuko. It allowed the girl to look Mitsuko in the eyes without faltering. But that was all she was going to offer up to her. If Mitsuko wanted to learn more about Hayate, well then she'd have to go and ask him herself.

She could sense the girl was getting much too suspicious of her intentions. She didn't want the girl to know about her plans to get revenge on that bloodthirsty monster. She smiled at Chris, trying to affect a happy demeanor. She knew she wasn't doing as well as she could. Her powers of deception had atrophied a bit in the past few months, having not been used much in Elysium.

"Don't be too emo and stuff," Mitsuko said happily, hugging Chris' shoulders. She knew the girl was joking, but Mitsuko wanted her to know she cared. While the purpose of the conversation had been to get information about Hayate, she did truly care about Chris. The girl needed someone looking out for her. A 'neesan who was more experienced in the bad things people were capable of.

Mitsuko nodded at Chris' description of Hayate as 'nice'. From the way the girl was talking, Mitsuko was fairly certain the girl had no knowledge as to his vampiric nature. That was a dangerous situation. What kind of game was Hayate playing? He hadn't hesitated in trying to drain and kill her. Why was he hanging out with a teenaged girl without feeding? "Mm." Mitsuko nodded yet again. "Next time Hayate comes in to the cafe, I'll be extra fast getting his order.

Logan came down the stairs. He was dressed in the outfit Mitsuko had picked out for him. It was a dark brown pinstripe suit, complete with a vest. He looked incredibly nice, but somehow casual with no tie and an open collar. He was a bit nervous with how he was dress, having never worn anything like this before. But Mitsuko was certain he would look wonderful.

"Hey," Logan rasped softly as he approached Chris. He kept his head down, eyes downcast. "I'm sorry," he murmured. He then looked between Chris and Mitsuko in confusion. They both looked like they had been deep in conversation. "....Am I interrupting something?"

Chris had no idea about Mitsuko's plans of revenge, and she didn't even contemplate it. She just thought that the kitsune was trying to dig up some information for the sake of her brother, and as far as the human girl was concerned that wasn't going to happen. She smiled at Mitsuko though, and returned the hug that was given to her. "Thanks, I'll try not to be emo," she said with a laugh. Maybe Chris did need an older sister, someone to guide her as she grew into a young woman. She didn't have her mother, after all, and all she had been relying on over the past few months was her instincts.

The kitsune seemed okay with Chris's truthful answer, and the young girl was glad that Mits didn't attempt to dig for someone more concrete. She was about to say something when she heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Chris turned her head only to find Logan coming down looking incredibly... well, incredible. Chris's eyes were wide, and she smiled broadly at him.

"Wow," she said unabashedly. "You look really nice." Chris rose to her feet and then blinked at Logan when he asked if he was interrupting. She shook her head. "We were just talking," she said with a smile. "Girl talk, so no, you don't get to know." Chris cast a sweet smile at Mits and then walked over toward Logan. "C'mon, we better get going," she said. "Maddy'll never forgive us if we're late."

Mitsuko wanted to protect the girl. While she had not sworn to her father to protect the orphans in Elysium, she knew it had been his dying wish. Even if it hadn't, Mitsuko knew what it was like to be a fifteen-year-old girl on your own. She had run away from Midori when she was fourteen. Her life had been fraught with peril and heartache. If she could help someone avoid the mistakes she made, she would.

She smiled at her younger brother. He definitely worked the suit she'd picked out for him. And Chris seemed suitably impressed by it as well. "You two have fun," Mitsuko said, giving them a small wave. "I better get ready for work. Be careful and don't be back too late, all right?"

Logan gave Chris a small smile. It seemed now that he was speaking again, people weren't as free in their speech around him. Or maybe they had been talking about him. "Yeah." He nodded and held an arm out to Chris to take. It was a friendly gesture, not meant as anything romantic. "We better go meet up with Charlie."

With a quick wave to Mitsuko, Logan escorted Chris out of the cottage.
