Who: Dante and Hayate
When: Late night
Where: The Wine Bar
What: A not so usual encounter

The cold shadows of the night were the places that Dante normally roamed. They were his own haven, his home away from home, whenever he needed to stalk his prey. He could function in the daylight - he could seem perfectly normal in the light of day. But looks, as the saying went, could be deceiving, and deception was the name of Dante's game. He played the roles that other people wanted to see in order to ensure his survival. He was an expert at hiding in plain sight; after all, who suspected the man who acted like he had nothing to hide?

Dante found himself 'hiding' at the Wine Bar once more, sipping on ale and eying the women in the bar. Eliza was missing, and her absence reminded him of the times they spent together indulging in their carnal desires. Despite the fact that it was the day after the full moon, and Dante normally found himself calm after its wake, he was unusually jittery. The voice in his head hadn't stopped whispering to him, playing upon the urges that could no longer remain dormant. They needed to be released, and though he had done plenty of hunting the night before, his claws and fangs still thirsted for blood.

He dismissed the impulses for now, submitting to the ache in his bones and muscles that told him he still needed rest. Lycanthropic healing did little for the nights where he was especially rough. He had slept from the moment he returned to his cottage that morning, until the very late evening. It didn't do a damn thing for him. He still hurt, and he was still tired. So why was he even out at the Wine Bar when he should have been at home resting? It was the voice from the dark abyss of his soul that aggravated the itch to do more than just lie around.

The lycanthrope nursed his ale, and ordered a double shot of whiskey to wash it down. The woman sitting at the bar next to Dante kept glancing at him out of the corner of her eyes. Even if he was half-way to being drunk he could still tell when a woman was giving him a once-over. He smiled at her, "You keep staring at me, and you'll burn a hole in my head." The woman giggled, and turned in her seat to face him. Maybe the night wouldn't be a waste if he could go home with this girl and get lucky.

Hayate was a prowler of the night as much as Danté. He normally did not visit a place twice and so close together, but the weather was losing its temperate breeze and The Tiki Hut no longer held as much customers as it had during the warmer months. The beautiful Eliza was indeed missing from the scenery, but Hayate could not say he cared much about the loss. The barmaid had not been anything special, just another decoration on the wall. However, once he spotted the other man in The Wine Bar, his attention drew solely toward the familiar face.

He saw the woman showing an interest in Danté, and a devious upward curl of his lips came to his face as the idea of disrupting the fine moment between Danté and the female came to mind. Abandoning his table and chair, Hayate used his glamour to soften his face and cause his skin to glimmer with the fainest sheen. His hair slowly seemed to grow out a little, becoming all the better to frame the delicate appearance of his face. Hayate walked right up to the other side of Danté, opposite of the woman, and sidled himself into the bar stool beside the man as his arm rested lightly around Danté's shoulders in a seductive manner.

Leaning his head over the bar, Hayate ran his tongue over the top row of his teeth and made a show of being very much interested in Danté — in that way. "Baby," he purred in a sensual tone, loud enough for the woman to hear, "I've been looking all over for you." It was directed at Danté, but the benefit was meant for the woman. She would leave as soon as she thought Danté was tied up with him. In fact, Hayate watched with personal glee as she drew her eyebrows together and made a face at the both of them. Picking up her drink, she took it and left the bar to leave the two of them alone with each other. Hayate leaned in close to Danté's ear. "Oh, now look at that," Hayate mused as he watched her walk away. "You've broken her little heart."

The vampire turned his bright blue eyes, sparkling with inward amusement, onto Danté as he smiled with all of the smugness that he felt in that moment. He leaned away from the other man, making a show of letting his hand linger on Danté's shoulder before pulling it completely away. "Hmmm," Hayate hummed in his throat, resting an elbow on the bar as his hand trifled aimlessly in the air. "How long has it been since we've had a proper chat, you and I?"

His focus was skewed, and he hadn't even realized that Hayate was approaching him until the arm slipped around his shoulders. Dante looked at the visitor from the corner of his eyes, bristling at the words that the vampire spoke. The discomfort was apparent, a rare moment when Dante's composure had been broken. The woman who had shown interest in Dante left him immediately, and Hayate continued to rub salt into the wound with his words. The lycanthrope took a deep breath, regaining some semblance of calm when the vampire released himself from him to speak.

"Fancy seeing you here," he said before he threw back another shot. He slammed the glass back on the counter and leaned away from the vampire. "You're a bastard, you know that, right?" He shook his head, wanting nothing more than to take this guy someplace dark to teach him a lesson. But he kept that compulsion at bay, choosing instead to hope - if he had ever hoped for anything in his life - that the vampire would just go away. There was a look of cold steel within Dante's eyes, and he continued to glare at the vampire.

"How's that pretty little thing of yours doing, by the way?" He lifted the newly refilled glass into his hand, and swirled the liquid slowly. "Chris, wasn't it? I think I saw her the other day with that dog of hers. She looks good," he mused. "Really filling out. I should say hi to her the next time I see her. Take her out for ice cream, or something." He shrugged like it wasn't a big deal, and sipped his drink. He'd invite the vampire to join him for a drink, but he really wasn't in the mood at that moment.

Hayate's eyes continued to glimmer with silent amusement, which showed very obviously on every aspect of his face. "Maybe I am," the vampire mused aloud, a smirk curling up the corners of his mouth. He leaned forward again, knowing that he could get this close to Danté in public and the other man could not do anything about it — not without drawing unneeded and unwanted attention to himself.

" . . . But I'm a very lovable bastard," Hayate murmured, a flicker of mischief arising in his eyes, tinting the blue temporarily with an unnatural hue of gold caused by glamour magic. "Aren't I?" It did not seem as if he was even attempting to be serious, and yet it was this sort of playfulness and calm that got to other people more than harsh words spoken in anger. It did not matter how Danté answered the question or if he ignored it, it would not break Hayate's game tonight. Nor would the cold steel look in the wolf's eyes.

The vampire continued to grin, much more openly this time, and he leaned away from the other man's form and returned to an upright position on his stool. "Oh, since when were blondes your type, Danté?" Again, there was that mischievous tone in his voice, a sing-song note that claimed to have knowledge of something the other man had no idea the vampire knew of him.

"Hmm," Hayate continued, "chocolate locks, long legs, dark eyes . . . " Hayate was listing out everything he noticed Danté answered to in a woman. After all, Danté was not the only one who kept an eye on people. "Tastes like candy to me," he teased in low tones, not caring whether or not Danté knew Hayate played with the other man's toy. After all, it was fitting ever since Danté crossed a line with Chris.

"As lovable as rolling around on broken glass," Dante said with a charming grin. He sipped his drink again, matching Hayate's playfulness. He was unwilling to relent, either, but he couldn't say that it wasn't enjoyable. Banter with someone like himself was so rare that he was reveling in it, and his annoyance was disappearing - but not by much. The vampire was close to him, leaning in to lend to the teasing atmosphere.

Hayate could act unaffected all he wanted, the truth was that Dante knew that talking about Chris was the quickest way to press all of the vampire's buttons. The best part was that Dante wasn't afraid to back up all of his talk. He was not a dog - or a wolf - who was all bark; he was well-known to bite. Dante's throat rumbled with an amused chuckle at Hayate's question, and he leaned in to answer. "Since you called me baby, baby." He winked at the vampire, playing the game right back. Dante didn't normally play like this with men, but he wasn't above it. It was a means to an end, and the end was all that mattered to the werewolf.

Truthfully, a woman only needed dark hair to catch Dante's attention. Everything else that made one worthy of obsession was in the personality, and how much time he spent on them. Hayate's words, however, caused an arch to form upon Dante's brow. "Candy, huh?" He was not amused, but he didn't reveal that to the vampire. "Probably not as sweet as the nectar of innocence. I'll tell you how that tastes when I see Chris next."

The vampire's grin only grew at Danté's comparison, failing to falter as they bantered back and forth. He liked to know he had an uneasy effect on the wolf, no matter how small or even regarding a small issue. The tension was palpable to both men, certainly. Both being of a similar nature, there were only so many buttons that could be pushed without engendering too negative or fierce a response in return. Hayate's purpose was not to annoy the other man, though. No, he had much better plans in mind for the wolf.

He allowed himself to chuckle openly at the joke, sensing the lack of seriousness from Danté. Well, at least the man had a sense of humor, which was more than could be said about some people around here. "Charming," Hayate responded, the corners of his mouth turned upward to display a veiled smile. "I didn't know I had such an affect on you."

Hayate was not going to spend his time playing around with Danté through false words, though. They did have some unfinished business, and it was interesting that Danté should bring it up. He found himself still smiling, not taking the wolf's words seriously. "We both know you're only bored, Danté," the vampire commented in a idle tone. He gazed over at the other man, leaning his head against his closed fist as his elbow rested upon the bar. "Isn't that right?" he asked, and it seemed as if the flirtatious attitude had fallen out of his voice and turned neutral. The vampire did not display nor truly feel any alarm or unease because of Danté's words. It was take more than false threats to garner a response out of him.

The smile grew even more, becoming secretive. "Besides," Hayate added suddenly, "nothing matches the sweet blood of a fae . . . " His eyes glimmered as if holding a secret that Danté could not learn from him, even if he followed Hayate around like a puppy and hoped to be thrown a bone for his efforts.

It bothered Dante that Hayate remained composed despite his constant jabs at the girl. He ground his teeth together in annoyance, an annoyance that flared up once more. What did this vampire assume to know about him, and what gave him the right to mock him so openly? Dante was far from amused at this point, but his features didn't show it. Hayate wasn't the only one who could act like everything was sunshine and roses.

"I think men like us," he said waving his hand between them. "Get bored easily. Our minds can only stay occupied for so long. Unless it deals with survival, then we might force ourselves to not be bored." He shrugged and finished off the rest of his liquor, setting the now empty glass upon the bar. He placed his hand over the glass, his palm covering it completely. He stared at it for a minute, and then looked at Hayate. "And so what if I'm bored? Don't I have the right to entertain myself in whatever way possible? I know you've done the same." Dante released his hand from the glass, and swiveled around in his chair. "Just how long do you think that girl Chris is going to keep your attention, hmm?" Maybe Dante would do the vampire a favor and take the girl off his hands. Let him find another play thing to keep him occupied in the meantime. Dante could learn to like blondes; not as much as he like her, of course, but enough. Hell, a body was a body and sometimes that was all he needed to fulfill his urge.

Dante didn't comment on Hayate's remark about a fae, but he did remember the dark-haired fae that used to garner Hayate's attentions. He also remembered her as the one the necromancer was so protective of - he hadn't seen her in a while, and he wondered why he hadn't. Perhaps it was because he had stopped watching her when Hayate stopped seeing her as well. Yes, that had to be it.

"I'm going out for some fresh air," he said suddenly. Dante rose to his full height, and looked at Hayate down the bridge of his nose. "You coming?" Dante began to walk away slowly. There was a slight sway to the man's walk, an indication of his drunkenness. Or maybe that was what he wanted Hayate to think.

Hayate might have responded to Danté's comment about boredom. The vampire, after all, did not see anything inherently wrong with it when it came to men like them. Every once in a while they became bored and they played games to pass the time more easily. In that respect, Hayate was not going to hold it against the man. The part of it that the vampire refused to stomach was the fact that Danté hurt Chris. Perhaps it was not physically, but he tormented her mind and her emotions, scaring her beyond anything that was necessary. Hayate found he could not forgive the behavior. He knew that much. The why of it escaped him, but he did not have to know anything else other than that to justify his reaction. Danté could have tormented Kaiya, and Hayate would have thought nothing of it other than a territorial game. Payback would have only been for reasons of territory, and perhaps they both would have been entertained by it. Chris, however, was personal.

Any thought of responding to Danté flew out of the vampire's mind as the other man called out Hayate on Chris. Hayate noticeably failed to say anything aloud, remaining silent in his seat as he stared across at the rusty-colored man. "A pet's a pet," Hayate replied at last, his voice a deathly quiet. "Even you know the nature of that game, Danté." If one messes with someone else's property, one should not expect nothing to happen in return of the favor.

Going out for a walk, was he? Hayate possibly knew what the end result of that would be, but if he was prepared for it, then the wolf could not catch him off-guard. This needed to be settled between them. The vampire knew wolves did not get drunk with ease, much like himself. Either way, it had to have been easier for wolves to become intoxicated than for vampires. Without a word, Hayate got up from his seat and followed the taller the man toward the door.

He kept his distance, a good distance of a few feet the whole time. Hayate liked to see what was coming without being too close. He could get closer if Danté proved to be more relaxed than he last displayed with his voice.

There never needed to be a 'why' for any of Dante's actions. He did as he pleased, submitting to the will of the dark voice that spoke to him from the far reaches of his mind. The wants of his demon self liked the idea of challenging another like him, pushing another's buttons to witness the reaction. It was not very often that an equal came upon the stage, and finally meeting one stirred up curiosity and rivalry.

Like other toys, or pets, Chris was merely a pawn. Dante set the stage into motion, and he captured his opponents' 'queen' just to send the rest of the pieces into frenzy. It revealed a lot about the vampire, but mostly that the young girl was his weakness though he claimed she was just a 'pet'. Dante knew the game, but he had not revealed all of his cards to the vampire. Though Hayate knew of Dante's type, the vampire had yet to pinpoint the werewolf's true queen and thus would be at a disadvantage in that respect.

He inhaled deeply, and let it out in a loud breath. He swayed a bit, all for Hayate's sake, and stumbled over toward a nearby tree. He leaned against it, lucid eyes cast toward the vampire who was keeping his distance. He was smart, Dante had to give him that. But the lycanthrope was looking for a fight, and he wanted to provoke the vampire into starting one. The girl, Chris, was the only soft spot that Dante was aware of, though so far that didn't seem to work. Maybe he had to go further, say a little more or just say the right thing to make Hayate snap.

Dante was thirsting for danger, and he knew that Hayate would be the one to give it to him.

"Wanna trade pets? You give me Chris, and I'll let you play with one of mine." Dante licked his lips and smirked. "She's so young, and impressionable, and she's got a great set of lungs. You should have heard her screams - " He closed his eyes, mouth formed into an evil grin as he remembered the night he took the girl to the cabin deep in the woods. "It was like music, and I the conductor."

Hayate knew Danté was far from being drunk out of his mind, but if the man wanted to play tipsy tonight, who was Hayate to deny him his show? He remained quiet, standing a fair distance away as Danté leaned himself against a tree. The vampire had not necessarily been looking for a fight by approaching Danté. It was just another part of their secret game, a game not even the two of them admitted clearly to playing with each other. Why, that would just ruin all of the fun.

Chris was a soft spot, but Hayate could tell if he was being poked and prodded at for a response. These were not things Danté would say unless he was hoping for a reaction from the vampire, and Hayate knew to let the words roll off of himself, not to react to them. He smiled sweetly, a secretive gleam in his eyes as he gazed across the distance at the wolf. "I'm afraid your toys are not terribly interesting," Hayate replied in a lazy voice. The calm only lasted briefly, though. Danté commented on Chris's lungs, the sound of her screams, the time he had abducted her and took her off somewhere Hayate could not find. It tore the wound open fresh, but there had already been an infection. Hayate had just been ignoring it.

The muscles around his nose almost twitched as Danté spoke, but the vampire steeled his nerves. "What would you know about screams?" he asked, looking to find his own tree and leaning his side against it as his hands dipped into his pockets. "I've been around for centuries." A sly grin swept over Hayate's face. "You can only imagine the screams I've heard." Hayate clicked his tongue against the top of his mouth, giving Danté an inquisitive look. "Ever skinned anyone alive?" he asked, as if it was the most casual question in the world.

Why wouldn't Dante want a reaction from the vampire? Why wouldn't he want to see the workings of a sociopath like himself from the outside? He had only known the things in his own mind, only had those thoughts to analyze. Now he had another in front of him, and he felt like a scientist. He wanted to experiment, and Hayate was his subject of choice.

Dante noticed the twitch, and he knew he had touched a sensitive nerve with the vampire. He smiled, pushing himself off the tree to walk toward the one who was like himself. The sway was missing from his walk. He was still tipsy, but what was the point in acting that way now? It was an act earlier, but there wasn't a need for it now. The vampire's words were meant to incite something inside of Dante, a competition of sorts. Who was the worse monster? Who had committed the most crimes?

He stood in front of Hayate and shrugged. "I'm not talking about those screams, friend. I'm talking about those of your little pet." He leaned in close, smirking a bit before his feet moved him away. Dante began to circle the tree slowly. "You've never heard her scream, have you? Never heard those tiny hands of hers banging against wood while she was crying for..." he rounded the tree quickly this time coming face to face with Hayate. "You." He walked away. "You've never heard that in all your centuries, but I have."

Yes, Hayate had attempted to change the subject in whatever way he could, but the wolf failed to bite at the bait. Removing his hands from his pockets, Hayate folded his arms over his chest and merely watched with an uninterested gaze as Danté circled around his tree and continued on about Chris. The words were getting to him, but the vampire knew he needed to keep his cool. Danté threw out his own bait, trying to get Hayate to bite. It was not enough to make Hayate bite, though, especially not if the vampire could read the reasons behind the wolf's inciting speech. He would not bite in this moment, and that was certain.

"Trying to bait me does not become you," Hayate stated in a bored tone. His eyes lifted up to Danté as the man came into his vision once more. Hayate's face held the appearance of boredom as just as the posture of his body fed into the image. "Perhaps knowing about things first might . . . lend you a better upper hand over me? Besides, who is to say I won't just get bored and tear your face off just because I feel like it and not because of empty words?" Hayate shrugged his shoulders as he leaned against the tree. It would certainly be very interesting if even after this the wolf did not give up.

The vampire found ways to channel himself and keep his cool during the rest of his hours, but he was willing to bet Danté's hunger was only growing in its size each day. One had to own the hunger, or it owned you. Hayate was willing to venture that the wolf had not yet accomplished what he had done so far.

Dante had no other reason to bait Hayate other than he wanted to. He spoke the truth to the vampire of the girl's cries, screams, and unrelenting banging against the wooden door of the shack. The lycanthrope knew that the words must have gotten to him even though he acted uninterested. Dante reeled around on his feet after Hayate's retort, green eyes blazing in the dark of night.

"I think I know plenty, Hayate," he said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. He stood there, feet akimbo while his arms were crossed over his chest. "When it comes to the girl, I have the upper hand. I had her hidden away from you, and while she cried and cried and cried for you. She begged for you to save her. To come and get her from her dark prison. You should've seen her there, huddled up on the bed exhausted from her tears." He smirked, and let out a small laugh. "But you didn't come. You couldn't find her." His tone was amused, and he was definitely mocking Hayate at this point. "You couldn't save her. You couldn't stop me then, and if I wanted to take her again - " He shrugged easily. "I could. And who's to say that I'll even let her go the next time. Who's to say that she'd even survive the next time, because I could just get bored and start tearing her limb from limb. Or I could just tear off her face and send it to you in a pretty box as a souvenir."

Dante stared Hayate down this time, watching for the other man's reaction with keen interest. He grinned toothily at the vampire, canines elongated in the way of werewolves. They dripped with saliva as his eyes began to take on the feral yellow color of the beast. Dante might not have had enough energy for a full transformation so soon after the full moon, but he could muster up teeth and eyes for show.

The sudden rage coursing through Hayate's veins was not hunger; it went deeper than madness, deeper than an urge to kill. It was pure feral protection. The wolf was playing with fire with his threats against Chris, and while Danté's chew toys were nothing more than temporary entertainment, Chris ranked higher than all of them. Hayate would not save tearing off Danté's face for the future. Right now was as good a time as any.

Danté's face-bearing antics did not deter the vampire, and with his speed that Danté lacked in human form, he rounded the wolf's form and jumped onto the wolf's back. One arm caught under Danté's chin against his neck and pressed hard against his larynx, and the other gripped the top of Danté's head to pull it back. Before Hayate could drain him of air, since snapping his neck was too merciful, Danté had a window of time in which to act against the attack.

The full moon from the night before had drained Dante of his energy. He hadn't fully recovered his strength or speed, but that didn't mean that he missed the oncoming attack from the vampire. He reacted to it but not before Hayate had jumped upon his back and latched an arm around his neck. The vampire was quick, and for a moment Dante wondered if picking a fight with the little guy had been smart. The thought didn't last long though as he immediately focused on survival.

His first reaction was to grab at the arm across his neck with one hand, while the other went to the hand that was holding his head. He needed to loosen the pressure, but he lacked enough strength to pull the vampire off completely. Instead, he forced his body to fall hard to the ground, pinning Hayate between him and the ground beneath them. Hopefully, it would be enough to jar the vampire, even if it was momentarily.

The second the wolf's hands covered both of Hayate's and pulled at them, Hayate bared his fangs and immediately sunk them into the flesh on the back of the wolf's hand. He was not doing it to drink from him. It was another form of attack to induce pain in order to cloud the judgment, especially when he planned on ripping off flesh and tearing open blood vessels when he pulled away.

However, Danté fell onto his back and crushed Hayate beneath his weight within the same time frame, just shortly after the vampire bit him. It wounded Hayate, but it only fueled his desperation in this fight. Hayate clenched down on Danté's hand and swung his head sideways, tearing off a good chunk of skin with the move. He knew the bite itself would not have hurt a werewolf all that much, but that was sure going to hurt like hellfire.

As he lay beneath him, Hayate scrambled to keep at least one of his arms around the other man's neck. Though his fist was small, it was strong, and it swung it straight into the other man's face. Once, twice, and then three times.

He might have looked weak, but Hayate was no weakling.

Dante knew that the fall would hurt the vampire, what he didn't expect was for the little bastard to up the ante. The fucking vampire tore away at his skin, and Dante let out a yowl of pain. It would heal in a day or two, that was never a problem, but in that moment the pain was enough to blind him. Dante gritted his teeth, anger surging through his body as he pulled his arm away from the vampire's fangs. There would be no more biting if he could help it.

Hayate started to punch Dante in the face, and the werewolf put up an arm to block any further attack from the other man. In retaliation he released the grip on Hayate's arm only to slam his elbow into the vampire's side repeatedly. They were hard blows even though Dante was not at full strength. He didn't need to be with the amount of adrenaline pumping through his veins. It was exciting for the werewolf to be pitted against someone who was giving him an actual challenge. He didn't expect that from the little guy, and in truth it pleased him to be proven wrong.

The lycanthrope knew he had to get Hayate into a position where he could grapple him, and pin him. Currently, he couldn't do that, but he just needed a window of opportunity. And while he was blocking Hayate's punches and delivering his own attack, his legs were working frantically to push them along the ground.

The blow to his side a moment later caused him to release his grip without any damage to the skin save for the puncture marks, and another blow hit him before he grabbed Dante's arm and twisted it behind the other man's back. Choking the breath out of him was not going to work, and so getting the wolf into a vulnerable position was his best bet.

All of the scrambling around got Hayate free enough to crawl onto Dante's back and get the other man face first into the dirt. However, he did not necessarily have the upper hand. His only grip was on an arm, and it was not the best of wins in a brawl. On top of that, fighting this dirty was not Hayate's usual style and he bound to come up against a snag that worked against his favor.

He had one thing going for him that Dante did not, though. He had a purpose he was fighting for, someone to protect against the man he was wrestling. Hayate was not going to see Chris ever again under the so-called care of this sick fuck again, knowing how much of a monster the man could be. Just like him. Two peas in a blood-soaked pod, and Hayate was not going to risk it. He knew what he would have done to someone he failed to give a shit about, and Dante was no different from him.

If it would get to Hayate, Dante would hurt her. Maybe even kill her — and there was no way in hell Hayate was going to let that happen.

Fighting dirty might not have been Hayate's style, but it sure the hell was Dante's. The bite on his arm felt like a pin prick - he had had worse in his life from other werewolves - and the way his arm twisted behind him was nothing more than a discomfort. Dante's face was in the dirt, the smell of the earth filling his senses completely. But it would take more than a twisted arm and a face full of dirt to stop the lycanthrope.

He had a free arm that was able to grab at Hayate's free arm. Fingers gripped tightly around the small limb, and in a quick move he rolled over until he was on top of the vampire. He did the same move once more to disorient the vampire, and then swiftly turned the tables on Hayate. Just because Dante didn't have a reason to fight, didn't mean that he wasn't going to give it his all. He was a black belt in jujitsu, a grappling martial art that worked best in tussles such as this.

Dante was straddling Hayate now, and he was pressing down on the vampire's shoulders with his hands. He leaned in to whisper. "Give me a reason to not kill your pretty little thing because at this point, messing with her might prove to be the funnest thing to do in this here joint. Especially if it gets you this worked up, friend." He wouldn't hurt her, not really anyway. It wouldn't have brought any satisfaction to the werewolf since Dante would then lose whatever leverage he had against the vampire. He needed her alive, if only to tease Hayate with the possibility of her death.

The sudden twist and subsequent slam of Hayate's body into the ground knocked the wind out of his lungs, and Dante wasn't letting up so easily. The man rolled them in the dirt and found his way on top, gaining the upper hand in the fight. Hayate had lost his moment of being in the lead. Now, he was pinned between the cold dirt below and the wolf above. His gritted his teeth, glistening white fangs and all, right where Dante could see them. In the middle of all their tussling, the loose and thin gold chain of the necklace around Hayate's neck had snapped and landed somewhere on the ground below. It wasn't anything important, just a random trinket.

A few inches were all that separated their faces as Dante leaned in to whisper. The words about Chris boiled Hayate's blood to the point of wanting to explode, even his skin turned slightly pinkish red as he bore the words from Dante's mouth. If he didn't hate Dante so much, he might could find a way himself to help the wolf relieve all that pent up frustration. Both of them were ticking time bombs, not just Hayate, which is what Dante failed to realize he was giving away.

Hayate's chest started to rumble as a low chuckle came forward and the pallor of his skin returned in some areas. The quiet chuckle escalated to a laugh as he lay beneath the other man. His tongue grazed over his teeth, eyes glittering with something that looked like lust. Hayate shook his head, laughing aloud into the night air.

"Ahhh," he drawled out. "Dante, Dante, Dante . . . " Hayate quietened down, lifting up his head from the ground as he stared up at the other man. This was the perfect moment. Slyness always was his game more than brute force.

Their faces were barely an inch apart as Hayate stared him down with his unnatural blue eyes. "Shut the fuck up," he whispered back.

Suddenly, their lips were touching as Hayate caught the other man's mouth in an unexpected kiss fueled with the sort of passion saved for lovers. He needed to draw Dante's attention to something in order to get his arms around the man's neck. Innocently enough, at first. But that was his plan. No matter how spontaneously and out of the blue it seemed, it was just another tool to be used in a fair game.

Laughter was the last thing Dante expected. Snarling, growling, even hissing would have been acceptable, but laughing was completely out of the blue. It didn't phase Dante that much, though, and the werewolf just stared down at the vampire. His green eyes were sparkling with something sinister, and he didn't move when Hayate lifted his head. He wondered what the vampire was up to, that is until the damn vampire kissed him.

Where the fuck did that come from?

Kissing wasn't allowed in a fight - not when two men were obviously trying to kill one another, or at least gain the upper hand. What the fuck was this anyway! Dante could barely move, the action stunning him into stillness. He didn't want to say anything, because that would have left his mouth vulnerable to a tongue. Dante remained tight lipped, and distracted from the press of lips against his.

Dante knew Hayate wasn't 'right' in that way - he knew it since the time he saw the vampire taking the tall, pale guy into the bathroom of the Wine Bar. The vampire must have been starved for sex or something. Dante was of the opinion that people who swung both ways were just greedy sons of bitches. Not that there was anything wrong with being greedy. They could be greedy all they wanted just as long as it wasn't with him. Sorry folks, Dante was a tits and pussy sort of guy, and when he finally overcame his initial shock he began to pull away from Hayate. There was no way in hell he was going to let this sort of thing continue.

The last thing Hayate cared about was Dante's thoughts in that moment. A stunned reaction was perfect as his hands had snaked their way up with ease towards the other man's shoulders and neck. They were positioned just right once Dante tried to pull away, and strong hands grasped him in place at the sides of his face to keep the wolf where he was. Hayate didn't say he could move, and Dante trying to pull away just wasn't very nice.

Hayate pushed the kiss further, holding the sides of Dante's face tightly between his hands. Word to the wise: letting a vampire kiss you in a fight was not the best of moves. It quickly became nasty as Hayate turned his head, fangs sinking right into the skin around Dante's mouth and his jaw clamping down tight to prevent Dante from moving at all.

With all of his strength, he shoved Dante to the left and rolled onto his side. Hayate did not try to land directly on top of him, though. Both arms landed around Dante's head in a painful twist, hands taking hold in a way that made them capable of snapping the other man's neck at any second, and he released Dante's mouth from his fangs.

Hayate rolled onto Dante's back as he shoved the wolf onto his stomach. His arms held the wolf's head in a lock capable of breaking that precious spinal cord. Now, he was the one straddling Dante. He was also the one with the upper hand.

"Oh, Dante," Hayate murmured near his ear, grinning all the while. "You made that one way too easy."

The lycanthrope didn't know how to react to something like a kiss. Punches, kicks, scratches, even bites he could react to. They were all violent actions, and violence was answered with violence. But Dante was at a loss in the moment of the kiss, and thus he left himself vulnerable to the vampire. It wasn't the smartest thing to do considering his weakened state, but it happened.

His shock was used against him, the vampire taking full advantage of the opening he was given. He bit around Dante's mouth, spilling blood into the werewolf's mouth, and down his chin and neck. He hissed virulently but didn't pull away. Pulling away would have made the wound even worse.

Hayate's distraction worked and it allowed the vampire to take a hold of Dante's neck in a way that was very dangerous. The lycanthrope quieted down as the vampire spoke. There was no way out of this one - he was too weak to shift, and even if he could Hayate would have snapped his neck before anything happened. Dante smiled and brought his hands together to clap.

"Bravo," he said with mild amusement. He was wavering somewhere between being amused and being pissed beyond belief. No one had ever done this to him before —no one, and the fact that this little bastard had gained the upper hand was unacceptable. But he couldn't do anything about it, not yet anyway, and the smart thing to do in that moment was concede. "You've made your point. I get it. No touching Chris." The idea that he had to concede to such a girly man was revolting, but he had no other choice.

He wouldn't touch Chris. The vampire proved that he was willing to do anything to protect his prize, and the werewolf understood that. It didn't make it easier to accept, though, and it didn't make Dante happy. It became clear to Dante that Hayate was not someone he should underestimate, and that his frustrations would have to be released in other ways.

“There are plenty of playthings around here, and plenty of them to your taste,” Hayate stated in a low voice. “Keep the girl out of it. She’s of no importance to you, and this little game has gotten really old.” His hold on the wolf’s head remained steady in place, his grip firm as well. He was not joking this time, and there was nothing amusing about their encounter anymore. This was all business, and it was very personal business. Hayate could let Dante be on his own as long as the wolf left him and Chris alone. It was a fair trade, each of them doing their own thing free of the other. Hopefully, Dante could see the urgency of the matter just by judging Hayate’s current reaction.

“I like you, Dante. You’re alright. Not half bad,” Hayate went on to explain, each word coming out smoothly, but then he leaned closer to Dante’s ear and the smooth quality of his voice turned harsh. “But don’t think for one second I won’t cut out your heart from your chest and eat it while it cooks freshly on a silver plate.” All of this hate was perhaps not very good for him to have towards the other man; he would fuck him just as soon as he’d kill him under these particular circumstances. Well, there was something to be said about punishment when it came to Hayate’s ways. Punishment was intertwined just as equally with pleasure.

More than anything, though, he would kill him — and he would enjoy every single second of it. “I think we can agree to that, yes?” Each word sounded so formal like it should be said at a toast during a dinner party, not while Hayate’s hands remained firm around Dante’s head ready to snap his neck at any moment — only if he had to, of course.

The vampire wasn't loosening his grip, not until he was sure that Dante had gotten the message. The werewolf stubborn amongst a lot of other things, but he wasn't stupid. He had received the message loud and clear - Chris was off-limits. "Buzz kill," he muttered to Hayate. He tried to move his neck a little to alleviate the pressure, but nothing he did helped. He couldn't even swallow without feeling the pressure of Hayate's arm against his esophagus.

"But I got it, your toy is off-limits." He began to laugh a little. "You just want to keep her for yourself. I can respect that." The vampire's threat made Dante smile, and the mental image that was forming was a bit morbid. He didn't say anything in return though. He was trying to keep cool and retain his nonchalant attitude, but there was a volcano threatening to overflow at any minute. He couldn't show that to his rival though; not when his neck was still in a noose.

"We agree, but you're still a fucking bastard," Dante said. "Now let go of me, and no more of that funny business!" He was referring to the kiss here. "I've got a reputation to keep.

Hayate was all seriousness until the very end. He chuckled quietly to himself, speaking closely to the other man's ear. "Oh, right," Hayate drawled out slowly. "You have a reputation to keep. I suppose you men who don't have a terribly interesting selection like to think that of yourselves." He contemplated to himself for a moment longer, knowing he had to release Dante eventually from his grasp. He could not be sure how much he trusted Dante, though. He would just have to make it quick.

"Good," Hayate said, cocking his head to the side. "See you later, Dante." As swiftly as possible, he let go of Dante and sprung to his feet. Hayate made his way off towards his home, not looking back to see what Dante was doing. He did not care to see where the wolf went next. He knew the threat had gotten through to the other man, and he did not have to worry about Dante going after Chris. Chris was safe from him, and it was all that mattered.

Dante didn't say another word to the vampire as he spoke. He listened carefully, letting the words sink into him to serve as fuel for his burning vengeance. Maybe not against Hayate, or even Chris, but against someone else that the vampire was close to, or at least connected to. He would have to wait for the perfect opportunity.

His neck was finally released from the strong grip, and Dante could breathe easily again. He rubbed the front of his neck, and eyed the vampire as he ran off toward his home. He let out a scoff and moved to sit on the ground. His eyes scanned the area of his fight, not looking for anything in particular but still finding something regardless. Something glittered in the grass and he reached out toward it with deft fingers.

A gold chain.

His picked it up and pocketed it quickly, a smirk growing across his features. Maybe it was his lucky day after all, he thought, as he rose to his feet. He began whistling a carefree tune as he made his way to his cottage. A plan was brewing in his head, and it was enough to put him in a good mood once more.
