Who: Leon and Voe
When: Late Afternoon
Where: Marketplace
What: Leon meets someone new..and unusual.

Sometimes like any other medical facility, the Medical Pavilion had days that were quite calm and days that were quite busy. For some of the day Leon took part in caring for any of the lycans in need of medical care. Though he was a Psychologist, it didn’t mean he didn’t know anything about first aid. Luckily though, there were other doctors that took part in the medical aid as well. From what he saw there seemed to be volunteers as well.

For the rest of his day he planned to check out the Marketplace. He usually was the sort of person who went for one thing and only one thing in the area, but he decided for once to browse the area for awhile. He took in the scent of the restaurant. He was familiar with the interior, that’s where he had met Kaiya. He suddenly found himself wondering how the fae had been doing for the few weeks that had passed.

He moved towards the sweet smell of the bakery but suddenly stopped when he saw an unusual looking female. “I-uhm.” He dug his hands into his pockets. He never would have commented this out loud, but she kind of looked like a female doused in flower. It was fitting for being near the bakery. In realistic terms she looked more ghostly than anything else.

Another day passed and the hour for Rion to leave work was soon approaching. Voe had arrived in Helicharis early as usual and decided to explore the market place to see if there was anything or anyone intriguing for her to examine. A few people wandered about the area and her gaze fell upon them, only for a couple of seconds before searching for more. While she had an unpleasant encounter waiting for her Janus in the past, she was confident that would not happen again. Today had found her desiring to be more elegant and she wore one of her favorite dresses, a navy blue floor-length number that should have been in a play than on a person. Her hair was up in a twist and posture perfectly straight, she carried herself with self-importance.

She would see him again. Soon. For now, she would occupy the time by immersing herself into the environment. Her eyes slid closed and she listened to the sounds, everything, the footsteps, chatter, birds chirping in the distance, someone's voice to her left. Voe's eyes opened, her head turning in the direction of the voice to see who had spoken. A man. Blond. Middle-aged. He was looking at her as if deciding what his opinion of her was and it was slightly irritating. She furrowed her brow, her eyes meeting his with renewed intensity. "If you are to gawk, find another recipient. I have no tolerance for imbecilic stares," she told him. "Unless the following words from your lips state my striking beauty." A slight jest on her part, but she doubted that he would recognize it as such.

Her gaze left him then to check the Woodshaper's to see if Rion had left the shop and started on his way home although she still had another hour and a half to wait. Patience was not her greatest virtue. Assuming she would have no further interruptions, a person walking on the opposite end of the market square caught her eye and she watched the woman intently. The woman's gait was slow and not confident, and she clutched a handbag close to her as if she was afraid she would drop it or someone would take it. She needed to be taught to hold herself upright, Voe thought, or else she would fold into herself. She was not worthy enough to be her ally and so Voe's gaze shifted to search for another person.

Leon meant to speak a word of apology, but nothing came out at first. He guessed he was more embarassed than he thought, shamed that he was guilty of seeming judgemental. He was all too new to seeing someone so unique. But she had the luck of his response to her being more that she had a beauty quality and not something close to some birth defect. He wasn't staring at her because he thought she was something that belonged in a cirus. He now realized she was an albino.

"I'm sorry, I was not staring at you in ways to offend you. You have a lot of features that stand out among others. You have a beauty quality like you had stated. If I was gawking, it wasn't in a way that stated offense. I'm not that kind of person, I can assure you."

She seemed naturally graceful which was all too interesting to ignore. He tried to patch up his horrible introduction by perhaps talking about the town.

"I'm new to actually just walking and observing in general. I haven't really explored the town all too much. It's quite nice."

Her uniqueness was apparent and had always been; there was a time when she was ashamed of being so pale and practically blind, but that had changed as soon as she became a vampire. She was even better then she was before and her mother told her that she was. Voe's stare softened more as he told her that he hadn't meant to offend. Of course she had unique features and her opinion of him changed at being called beautiful, of sorts. "I see," she said. Just what kind of person was he?

Voe took a step closer, her brow furrowing slightly before she examined him, inhaled his scent, reviewed the sound of his voice in her mind. So he was new to walking and observing; perhaps he needed help in effectively absorbing everything the environment had to offer. "It is satisfactory," she said. "More impressive is the Elven Palace, as is the towering tree near the forest dwellings." Her recommendation of the sights to see. Unusual as it was, she didn't seem to mind him as much anymore. Perhaps she grew more sentimental the more time she spent in this place.

"Do you hasten to ensure you do not offend with everyone you encounter?" she wanted to know. She preferred to be blunt and honest as there were too many lies in the world, in people, and perhaps his apologies were forms of lies. "Was my appearance the only reason to prompt you to engage me in conversation?" People had silly reasons to talk with one another at first.

Leon took a moment to analyze over what he would say next. It was like he was torn between what would be a daring answer and what was a more safe and courteous answer. He knew the answer to the stranger was yes. He was the type to quickly make sure he didn’t seem offensive if he came off wrong. When he felt like he offended someone, he wanted to make sure that they knew in a millisecond that he meant no harm. Through his life he was hardly judgmental and he would have hated to suddenly seem like he was among the sorts now.

“I guess I do get a little skittish when I feel like I have offended someone.” He admitted sheepishly. “But that is just because offending people can lead to confrontation and I am hardly the confronting kind.” He said in a calm tone of defense. He was the kind of man who never rose his voice. Leon always had some sort of a low, comforting octave to his voice by nature. A thunderstorm in December would probably occur before he got angry, argued or yelled.

When she had asked him if he was curious to talk to her because of her appearance he gave it thought. While she was someone that would draw in conversation because of curiosity, he now was interested in talking to her because of her mannerisms. “Honestly? At first yes. But you have other qualities that go way past your appearance. I don’t think of your appearance anymore. You stood out for a moment and now I have forgotten all about it.” He remembered Kaiya’s vibrant wings and after a moment of surprise, he just saw her for who she was, not a different sort of creature.

Being judgmental was one of the least of her concerns. The people who were not worthy of her company became offended and those who were possessed the knowledge that she was only honest for their own benefit. This was not to say that she didn't care what her allies thought of her because it was very much the case. She showed her affection in odd ways although she had no knowledge that she did; no one had told her as of yet. Something about this man told her that it was to be difficult to rile him, make him show any indication that he was less than content or friendly.

Perhaps she would do well to have a person like him as an ally if he preferred to be a peacemaker. Peacemakers were often privy to information people gave them because they felt they were more trustworthy, and there was a possibility he possessed such secrets. "Is that so," she remarked, more as a statement than a question and continued to observe him. He had taken the wind out of her sails of possible irritation for some reason and it almost unnerved her to be manipulated in such a way. "No doubt that has served you well." A slightly prying comment on her end, wanting to know more about what this lying-in-wait man had done. He had to have an agenda up his sleeve of some sort.

She appreciated his honest answer and wondered if he replied to everything with as much candor. He mentioned her other qualities and her posture straightened a little more, almost preening with his words. How right of him to notice her obvious elegance and confidence, because those were the traits which she treasured most. "Indeed, I have admirable qualities which, should you be so fortunate, you will have the pleasure of experiencing." She was good to the people she liked... and maybe she should take a chance. "I am Voe," she told him, "and I am a bloodseeker." She hoped she was the first he'd met - she was the only vampire he needed to meet, anyway.

Even the way the stranger took in her compliments was interesting. It wasn’t a simple, conceited “I know.” She took into knowledge that he had noticed her positive traits with confidence. Boastful or not he wasn’t taken aback by it. If he was so fortunate to see her positive traits, did that mean that many people offended her long before she spoke her name? Was she also a person capable of showing a darker side that made her seem far more unpleasant? Either way he felt lucky that he was able to make up for his rather horrible start. It seemed learning her name was quite the honor.

“Well Voe, I am Leon.”

So she was a vampire? He was not at all disturbed by this. It was somewhat interesting to actually meet a real one. When many client of his claimed to be ones and it was all in their heads, it was rather refreshing to meet a (as far as he knew) non psychopathictrue vampire. The patients that he had encountered lusted so deeply to become a vampire they even filed their teeth to be identical to a ‘boodseeker’ as she put it. Some murdered people in their style, brainwashed to believe they were the species.

“It’s nice to meet you.” After a long moment he felt better about making eye contact with her. “I’m glad you are the first vampire I have ever met.” She sure defied what vampires were claimed to be like.

There were a few people who quickly found themselves on her bad side one way or another, either by behavior or comments that they had said to her - it was necessary for them to tread a certain way, to read her better than she read them. Voe only showed her darker side when someone threatened her allies or herself, when it was absolutely necessary. She tilted her head slightly to inspect him once more, almost amused that he gave her his name in exchange when she had not asked for it. His name was unimportant to her, of course, because she was to find a name for him. "I will call you River," Voe said, and no, there was no room for debate on his part. The name suited him although she had little inclination of explaining herself about the choice.

His curious gaze upon her for a moment was flattering and she continued to hold her posture straight and regally, returning the look with a steady one of her own. People who wanted to be bloodseekers had the right idea, though most of them did not deserve the honor to actually be one. Meeting one of them would be interesting, to put them in their place. "I have strived for elegance for years, flourishing underneath the teachings from my mother. You need not meet any other bloodseeker for they are arrogant and crude, succumbing to their desire to feed as an animal does. It is disgusting and pitiful."

She closed the distance between them, standing next to him to get a whiff of his scent. Something familar was there and she remembered that Rion smelled a little similar. No doubt that he was not human and so her interest was piqued. "You are different," she stated, blunt as usual. "Not quite human - what are you?" It was in his best interests to sate her curiosity and then the conversation would continue onto more interesting topics. A small raise of her eyebrows as she moved to stand right in front of him.

Leon gave the woman a blank stare. Well, she certainly was blunt. She could scent him for what he was? That was amazing and he wasn’t at all self-conscious about how she knew that he wasn’t a normal human. Perhaps he was a little cautious to admit his ability…but not ill emotional towards her for asking him so candidly what he was. “Well I-“ How was there a way to word it? Many people must have knew what therianthropy was, not?

“I’m a lion.” He stated, wondering if that would go far. “With the posture of a lamb, right?” he was somewhat amused by his own saying. But he himself could sense that observation. He never rose his voice, agreed with most opinions and was a listener before he gave out opinions. It was strange having the ability to change into a creature who was a fine symbol for confidence.

“In clearer terms I am a therianthrope. I don’t know if you have met one before..so that means I am an animal shape-shifter. I can change into an animal..however I do not posses their mannerisms.” He scratched the back of his head sheepishly. “I don’t like to use this power. So it’s useless unless I may be in danger.”

She did not understand why he stared at her so - oh, it must be because he was unable to smell with the same accuracy as she. He told her that he was a lion and it intrigued her. Why was he a lion when his demeanor was so calm? Perhaps he was only that way until he cracked. It seemed as though he had confidence in himself, yet he was willing to help others. "Indeed," said Voe. "People will have no difficulty demanding you assist them and offer nothing in return. If you are a lion, it is necessary for you to act as one."

Voe met his eyes with her usual intense stare. "My lover is able to shift his form into an animal," she said. "It is fortunate that you do not possess any of their characteristics. You are human and should not resort to the actions of beasts. However, why do you deny your ability if it is such a powerful one?" Now she was curious as she'd never seen Rion change yet. "Change for me. I wish to see your shape-shifting."

Leon laughed and ran a hand through his brown hair. “I am afraid I cannot shift for you.” He stated, with kindness laced into his voice. “For if I do, I will be nude when I return to normal form.” He let his arms fold as he let more of his explanation fall from his lips. “Plus, my wife died and that was the last time I shifted. I only let myself change when I feel there is an emergency. I don’t think I could change form even if I wanted to.” He stated somewhat sadly.

He coughed lightly, trying to lighten the situation. “Oh, so you know a therianthrope? That must be quite nice to be involved with one. It does not hurt. Many people think it would hurt since werewolves experience pain..but I can tell you that we feel no pain at all.” He assured.

The best he could do was describing the event of shifting he guessed.

What was the problem with being nude? Voe furrowed her brow. "I have seen a male body in its entirety; it is not a concern." People did not appear in the middle of town with no clothes on, so it was only a matter of modesty on his part. Learning that he had not shifted since his wife died intrigued her - and he only changed when there was an emergency? Several questions gathered in her mind, and she let the first one slip from her mouth. "How did she pass away? Did someone take her life?" Raised in a world of vampires, it seemed like a natural question to ask. "Has something occured to obstruct your ability? Perhaps it has deformed you." He should think of all the possibilities if he wanted to regain his shifting.

Talking about Rion raised her spirits and a hint of a smile crossed her face. "He is wonderful and gentle," she said. "It is relieving to hear that he experiences no pain while transforming." She looked forward to seeing him do so. "I have not seen such magic before, as my entire world was immersed in blood. I do not think you would understand." It was not meant to be an insult, just stating the fact that she was different from him and he would do well to remember that. "You are but a River. I will not disturb your peaceful waters."

Was Leon ready to talk about his wife in front of strangers? He supposed so. It was a long enough time to ago. It wasn’t like it was yesterday. Not even several weeks or months ago. It was years ago. The woman seemed like someone he could talk to and even get some sort of insight in a creative sort of way.

“She was.” How could he could describe it? He wanted to say taken away from him in a sort of way that expressed it being his fault. But he guessed he was also the person who never invited anyone into his life in an extremely close manner until he got to know them more. “Murdered. A couple of years ago.” he scratched the stubble on his jaw that was beginning to grow. “I worked as an adult psychologist and some of my patients were..highly disturbed. I had to pretty much walk on eggshells when talking to them. I guess with the person that shot us both I must have stepped on one of them and cracked it pretty severely.” He stated, somewhat in a matter of fact statement. He didn’t want to invest his emotions into talking about it.

Leon was glad she asked about his ability, yet it was linked to his late wife. “Every time I transform I think of her I guess.” He shrugged his slightly thin shoulders. “I have even tried before but I think it is quite difficult because I just think about the events.”

The therianthrope couldn’t help but to smile when Voe had talked about the man she had met. “it is wonderful to discovered someone here.” He waved a hand in stating he wasn’t insulted. “Oh no, I assure you. I felt no insult at all.”

Voe tilted her head slightly to the left as he said that someone killed his wife. So her assumption was right. Such a fact seemed only natural in a horrible world such as this. A couple of years ago meant his loss was fairly recent like hers and she could understand his loss to a certain point. The one problem, however, was that she had no idea what a psychologist was. Perhaps it was unimportant. He had patients who had been 'disturbed' and this one person obviously ignored his advice. "So you wronged him in some fashion," she stated. "Vengence is common among those who take lives. This does not surprise me. Knowing that fate and occurances of one's own existance is cruel and eccentric causes continuing to be that much more difficult."

So it seemed that he needed to separate his grief in order to master his ability once again and Voe wanted to take it upon herself to help him. She already had one shapeshifter as an ally, and another one would be even better. "Your shifting did not cease the existance of your lover. Does your ability ashame you to the extent that you will never change again?" She tilted her head, almost tsking at him. "Hiding what you are will not be of any aid to you. You must divide ability and emotion." It might have been impossible, but she was going to suggest it anyway.

An idea struck her and so she took his arm, dragging him away from the middle of the street to behind one of the shops, staring at him with her usual intense gaze. "You are a coward. Your lover would not desire to see you as such, if she was a woman of merit. Shift for her, not because of her passing."
