Who: Nuray and Caden
When: Friday Afternoon October 26th
Where: The Zipline of Awesome
What: Nuray's never seen a zipline before, but she wants to try it. Caden gets a chance to show off his creation.

Fate tended to use things like inattention and laziness to her advantage whenever possible. In this case, it was in finding Nuray something to do on a day when she had been feeling the first pricks of boredom. There was always going back to the lake and getting further acquainted with the denizens of the waters there. However, as she was walking in that direction, a scrap of paper went fluttering by. There was something written on it. She could tell that before she decided to chase the wandering scrap.

After a rather delightful romp in which she fell twice and managed to frighten some small woodland creature into abandoning his doings of the afternoon, she caught the paper and got a good look at what had been written on it. Now what was this thing a 'zip line'? She'd never heard of anything of the kind. Well, that was interesting.

Curiosity killed the little fish woman, but satisfaction could bring her back. So with a new thing in mind, Nuray changed direction go find this zip line thing and get a good look at it. Mayhaps it would be interesting and fun and something to show Jay later when he got up from his older person middle of the afternoon nap. The way he slept, one would think he was about sixty, not just north of forty.

She found the zipline after a bit of looking and standing below it looked up at it. Well, it was a line like a clothes line. At least, that was the nearest comparison that she had in her head. So how exactly did one go about doing this, she wondered. The ladder wasn't lost on her, but she wasn't quite ready to go up the ladder yet and give this thing a try. First she wanted to see if she could figure out the mechanics. So she stood there, looking upward curiously, arms folded across her chest. Her clothing wasn't terribly heavy despite the weather, probably because she wasn't really all that bothered by cold.

Times like these called for Caden to return to his previous masterpieces and become inspired to make more new and exciting creations. Perhaps his parents were right in telling him that he needed to find a job, but he liked lazing about now. There was no reason for him to change his wonderful lifestyle. What he hadn't expected was to find anyone by the zipline. Granted, he didn't know how many people actually used and enjoyed the thing (besides the green man, much to Caden's amusement), so this made him happy.

He walked towards the figure and saw upon closer inspection that it was a woman. His good behavior was switched on within a second and he stepped next to her with his hands in his pockets all suave-like. "Don't worry, the ladder isn't going to bite," he promised. "I made sure it was quite sturdy too." There was no need to worry about it, of that he had to assure her. "And of course, the ladder is only a quarter of the fun. Zipline's state of the art." With that, he smiled at her and extended a hand out to present the ladder.

"If you close your eyes while riding it, it's almost like you're riding on a motorcycle. I miss doing that." He had a friend who had one and it was the perfect symbol for masculinity. "I was thinking about creating a form of transportation, but it's too radical for the general populus. I'll have to keep my catapult for wild partying purposes and leave it at that," he said. "Will people really take to catapult transportation? It's doubtful." It looked as though he was back to his talkative self. Funny how those things worked.

If she had been the least bit worried that it might bite her, she'd have probably slapped it quite soundly for such a thought. Turning toward him, she listened to him talk with all the running interest of one who was used to listening others talk for hours at a time. Jay did that when he got on a subject and she was fascinated by the things that he could dig out of his head. Besides, sometimes if she stayed quiet long enough he would say something amusing.

"I've never been on a motorcycle," she'd only been in a car like twice. She had gone with Jay to the funerals of some of his family members. Therefore, she'd been on land and in a car, but never on a motorcycle. "Now catapults I do know something about." She knew quite a few things about medieval siege machines. "However, I don't think they'll ever catch on as transportation."

Putting her hand out, she introduced herself. "I'm Nuray, pleasure to meet you." He seemed quite the flighty type. Nuray was quite a flighty person herself. Things would undoubtedly go well between them.

The trouble was that if she never rode a motorcycle, it was next to impossible for her to do so now unless cars were made here. Something told him that was not going to happen any time soon considering how natural-friendly Elysium was and the very big problem of power. Caden was a fan of solar power, as expensive and ineffective as it might be. Besides, he thought solar panels looked fantastic. "Shame," he said and looked at her incredulously. "Do you know how to build them? I've been too proud to ask for help, but I guess I really should." There was too much risk factor involved, he knew that. Maybe he'd have to make one only for him and his friends.

Of course, introductions! He reached out to shake her hand. "Caden." Now that they introduced themselves, he felt that it was necessary to prod her into having fun on the zipline. It would be fun for her if she was not afraid of heights, of that he was sure. "Come on, let's go. You want to try it, right? That's why you've been looking at it." Leave it to him to be blunt like that. He climbed the ladder up to the small platform and looked at her, gesturing to follow. She had to try it and if he could make her feel more at ease by pointing out the little seat with accompanying safety belt, then that was good.

Everything was as he'd left it, which was good. It had to remain secure of course and he supposed that he needed to check on it regularly There was no money so suing was unlikely, but still he shouldn't upset people. He'd rather not have an angry mob outside his door, threatening to kill him, as exciting as that might be.

Did she know how to build a catapult? No, but considering that she did know about that, it wouldn't really do to make it into a form of transportation. Honestly, who would want to be flung through the air? It was like those old things of the human cannonball, which she also didn't quite get as there again, being flung through the air by a form of propulsion that didn't have any inherent safety features. Seemed a quick way to end up rather dead, one could suppose.

"No, but Jay might." He was a Historian, an Egyptologist really, but he knew enough about history that maybe he had the plans for a seige machine hidden somewhere in his head. Something to ask him later when they got a chance to talk. So up the ladder was where you went to make this thing work. "Yeah," she had wanted to try it, if only because it was there and she hadn't done anything like this before.

Nuray had never been up on anything high enough to develop a fear of heights, so now would probably be the time if she was going to. So fearlessly, much like many things she did in her life, she climbed up the ladder and looked more closely at the contraption that he had created. Yes, she had realized by then that he was probably the mind behind the object. Which meant he would probably be the kind of person that she would want to get to to know.

"So you sit in the seat and go down the line?" Well, yeah, it was that simple. However, would that really be all that fun?

Truly fun activities needed some risk and the threat of death was about as thrilling as one got. The possibility of someone knowing how to build a catapult, as an obscure request, was exciting and he grinned at her. "Sweet. If you could ask him, I'd appreciate it. If not, that's cool too," he said. He just had to find someone with building capabilities. She wanted to try it and that was excellent. It was a matter of time before he was able to see the reaction on her face now and he rubbed his hands excitedly before he got to work.

He watched her until he became impatient and smiled at her. "Yes," Caden said. "It goes down quickly enough to be exciting, so don't worry." It seemed as though she needed a boost of some sort in order to enjoy it, so he reached out a hand to present it to her. "I'll give you a push to help." With that, he held the seat out for her and made sure that she was secure on it before he gave her a push. She soon shot down the line and he grinned, heading to the ladder so he could be there at the other side to greet her.

Nuray was interested in this toy, but she was also interested in just about everything else. Little knowledge of forests and such since she had spent most of her time on a boat with Jay. Now she was learning all kinds of things. Like the fact that there was grass and trees on land that were sorta like the ones in the ocean, but not quite. The similiarities were actually fairly small really. However, her mind kept finding them, trying to make this place into something more like home.

He helped her into the seat and she strapped in before he pushed her off into the air.

This was undoubtedly what it was like to fly. Not that she had ever experienced such a thing. The closest she came to that was allowing a warm current to carry her along. One could use the currents to go a long way, quickly, with minimal effort, but it made changing direction really really hard. Probably why this zip line thing only went in one direction and that was essentially forward and down.

Holding on tight, she screamed. Her facial expression had to be one of amused terror. Having on experience with roller coasters, she didn't know that this was exactly the same kind of adrenaline rush that one could get from riding a coaster as Six Flags. One really just has to try the Superman for the height of hilarity in coaster madness. But before she knew it, the ride was over and she was at the bottom.

"Woo! That's great. Let's do it again."

Caden hurried down the ladder and ran to the other side of the zipline, looking up and hearing her scream. It was no surprise that she did, and he hoped that was a very good sign she was enjoying herself. He stopped when he reached the end, but she was already there. With a grin, Caden tried to catch his breath before launching into excited questions. "So, what do you think?" he asked and then she said she wanted to do it again. Excellent! He saluted her and waited until she got off the seat so they could drag it back to the top.

It was too exciting to have another fan of his ride. "This is a bit tame compared to what I want, but extreme rides are hard to come by when you don't have electricity and everything, you know?" he said. "That's why I made this zipline and wanted to make a catapult.. Or, you know those rides that turn around and around and you're on a swing with other people? That would be fun, but I'd need some major power in order to make it turn as quickly as possible. And it's going to be hard for that to happen, so..."

Soon they were at the main tree and he climbed up the ladder once more quickly, waiting for her to join him a second later. The grin on his face was still present as he made sure she sat on the seat again. "You can try as often as you like. I've ridden it loads of times already," Caden said. "But if you don't mind sharing the seat, that'd be nice." He was not shamelessly flirting yet although he was starting to tread that very thin line between appropriateness and...not. He chuckled a little. "Nah, I'm kidding."

Yes, she was all about let's do it again. Nuray loved to try anything once and if she found it to be fun, multiple times until she found something else new and exciting to peak her interest.

He was describing carnival rides and she really didn't have much experience with those. There were water slides in some of the pools on the resorts that she had grown up near, but no extreme rides. They just weren't a big draw. So she just listened to him ramble and nodded in what she thought were the appropriate places. They were headed back in the direction of the beginning again. So much fun to be had.

It was probably obvious that she didn't see anything wrong with the idea of sharing the seat when he suggested it and she just smiled. "Sure," personal space and such were not major considerations on her part. "Come on," she looped one arm around his waist from where she was sitting, perfectly serious in dragging him along with her if necessary. Probably be safer if he would just get settled in with her.

The seedlings of a dream began to sprout in Caden's mind. If only he could create a carnival with an eccentric style and awesome rides! The actual building of it was out of the realm of his abilities, but he could certainly design something. The main problem was power, and building, but a man could dream in the meanwhile. Walt Disney had created a park so why couldn't he? McCall-land didn't have the same ring to it, though; Cadenland sounded much better. It was almost a shame that there was no money because he'd so have to buy a mansion and live in it with Adair and Sheldon, lounging about with also the company of gorgeous women and... needless to say, his mind carried on with his fantasy until he arrived at the platform of the ride.

She seemed to have no problem with sharing the seat with a stranger and he wasn't going to be the one to bring her self-consciousness to the foreground. "Right," he said and carefully got on the seat so as not to rock it. "Methinks it needs an extra little boost." With that, he pushed off the edge of the platform with his feet so they started even faster than normal. Caden had tried this before and was pleased with the speed they achieved as they shot downwards. Yes, this was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

If he could have attached the zipline to anywhere higher, he would have. "Imagine if I found a place to put this even higher!" he said loudly over the rush of wind past them. He imagined an incredible view beneath him, moving even quicker... Now that was some aspiration. Maybe if he found a place somewhat up one of the mountains... Wow, that'd be fantastic. The grin on his face grew even more and much too soon, the ride on the zipline was over. His mood, however, had shot to proportions. "I had the best idea! What if I made the same thing, but higher up like on a mountain?" he asked her. "Talk about extreme! Would you ride that?"

Nuray wouldn't have recognized the name of Walt Disney, though if someone told her that he was the one who made the cartoons with the singing lions, she would know him from memory. Jay had shown her the Lion King at one point while they were in Cairo as a joke, since she had told him about singing fish. At least, he'd had the good sense not to take her to see The Little Mermaid, that would have lead to an extremely confusing and uncomfortable conversation as she tried to explain to him merpeople hierarchy and government. She'd never heard of any kingdom of Atlantica in her travels or even by rumor, it wasn't in the history of the mers that she knew.

Perhaps somewhere that she hadn't been yet.

Nuray didn't have any self-consciousness to bring to the fore as far as her interactions with others went. Though she had spent enough time with Jay to know what some of the basic human conventions were as far as interactions were concerned, but for the most part, she had grown up in a resort town where some of the normal rules were suspended by the vacation mentality of what happens while you are away from home stays where you did it at. So while she might know some of the rules, she also knew that they could be ignored. An interesting set of contradictions.

"Make it higher," she thought about it for a moment as they worked on getting loose. "If you make it higher it goes faster, how do you compensate at the bottom?" Yes, she even knew what the word compensate meant. After all, the stop at the bottom was pretty abrupt, someone could get hurt, but if they could find a way to make it safe, then it was definitely something to do. "Make the bump at the end smaller and it'll be fun to ride. No fun to ride something that leaves bruises." Obviously, she had never been horseback riding.

It was a shame that Disneyland, like so many places in the world, was unavailible now. Caden missed music and film more than places - especially music, considering how much music he had in his collection. He hoped that they'd be able to recreate awesome things sooner or later before he went completely insane. He glanced at Nuray and grinned before slipping his hands into his pockets. As he had her vote to make it higher, he'd have to find a suitable place for another zipline and somehow extend the wire. Resources were low and he almost felt guilty using them to create something for his own guilty pleasure. At least it was also for other people as well.

"You got it," he said and took a moment to think before answering her question. "I guess I'd have to make it longer so you have enough time to slow down... maybe the angle has to be reduced so it's not as fast. Not as fun then but it'll be safer. We don't want people breaking their necks or anything. But yeah, I'll try to make the bump smaller. Thanks." He winked at her. "Have you ever been hang-gliding? I'd love to try that as well, but I have no idea where to get the materials to build something like that. It would be incredible to be in the air, don't you think?"

It could be incredible. "You'd be up high, wind through your hair, element of danger because you're so high up, but everything's so peaceful. If only I had wings so I could fly. I should really try flying on a pegasus one of these days. And man, I'm rambling now." Caden realized that he had not asked her about herself. "What do you like to do for fun? Or are you tied down with work like other poor souls and have hardly any time for fun? Because I'd be happy to help to show you a good time..."

Music she did miss a bit. Films she didn't so much care about because she didn't watch enough of them.

"Hang gliding," she had never even considered the idea of flying. After all, she was a fish, not a bird. "Uh no," she said finally listening to Caden as he continued forward. "I've been to the ocean floor, but not to sky." And when she said she'd been to the ocean floor, she meant it quite literally. Down at the very bottom where the seaweed grew in grand fields waving in the constant motion of the water. Flitted around with schools of brightly colored fish and some of the more muted ranges. That was her life. She'd been hunting for treasure among old wreckages and documenting history that was down among the silt.

"I'm at loose ends, I think," a smile on her face. "You see, Jay and I used to be treasure hunters of the underwater type, but now there isn't much in the way of treasure to hunt so we've got to find something else to do." Now she was the one chattering on and rambling. "I did find a wonderful saltwater lake. Such beautiful water, so clear, not quite like the Mediterranean. Less filth, seriously." Human interaction had done so much damage. "You should come swimming with me. If you can hold your breath, I can show you all kinds of things."

That did it for him. Hang gliding was his next goal and he would decide on a plan of attack for that. "Maybe it's time for you to expand your horizons." Ocean floor, eh? She could be into diving or something like that, which was interesting in its own right. He listened to her speak about being a treasure hunter underwater and wondered what she found. "Treasure hunter? Did you find anything?" he asked. "It sounds like you were underwater pirates. Did you have a submarine?" It would have been fun if he had been able to ride in a submarine.

Exploring a salt water lake sounded good except now there was the whole issue of not being able to hold his breath for very long. "I'd like that," he said. "I can only hold my breath for a minute or so. But maybe there's a magical solution." He hoped that there was equipment equivalent to scuba gear so he could properly enjoy under the surface of the lake. He didn't get asked to do things with a woman so often and he did not want to be limited by stupid reasons. There had to be something, really!

He remained quiet as he drifted off into thought about how he could get around the whole not being a fish problem and it was a little while before he realized he was being rude. "Sorry, just thinking. That will require some research. But until I get that worked out, maybe we can have a cup of coffee sometime." Smooth... or maybe not.

"We found lots of stuff," and she was quite right about that. They had found wrecks of treasure ships from the Phoenicians. In the Nile River area, there were actual buildings that had been swallowed by the river and the sea, early things probably before the people realized that so close to the water meant the water would eat their things. "Why would we need a submarine?" The idea hadn't occurred to her though him getting quiet about the being able to hold his breath thing gave her a chance to think about it.

Such a sad thing that humans had limited lung capacity. Why, because there were so many beautiful things underwater that one could see. "What about trapping air in a bubble?" One could make a bubble out of some material right, like glass. "Then you could go. But yeah, coffee," the Turkish did enjoy their coffee and Nuray really did follow in that tradition. It was one of the few things that she couldn't get underwater that she really did like. "Coffee would be grand, Caden." Proof that she actually had heard his name when he introduced himself to her.

His momentary awkwardness was lost on her probably because it would have required her to concentrate on something for more than a second when she was in the mood to flit from thought to thought like a hummingbird would.

He stood corrected. Part of him wanted to ask if he could see the treasure they found, but he probably should wait until another time when he knew her better. Should he have the opportunity again. Caden's optimism had fallen regarding women and it wasn't as if he was really flirting with her. The 'we' was a big deterrant. "If you don't need a submarine, then..." Mermaid? Merpeople? Therianthrope form of a fish? "I see." She looked anything but a fish, thankfully. Maybe if he worked on a method to stay underwater for a long period of time, in the lake might become his new favorite hangout. Looked like he would be in good company as well.

Trapping air in a bubble might be a solution, and he nodded at her suggestion. It actually reminded him of old-fashioned scuba diving suits and there had to be a person here who would be able to recreate one of them. He grinned at her accepting the invitation for coffee. "Great. Let me know when you'd like to meet up." After giving her a description of his forest cottage so she could leave him a note, he admitted that it was time to check in with his family and see how they were doing. He parted with her almost regretfully, but excited that he had made a potential new friend.
