Who: Kaiya and Sheldon
When: Afternoon
Where: Stables
What: Finding comfort with a friend

It had been a dark two weeks for the Japanese fae. Ever since the incident with Hayate, Kaiya had refused to leave her cottage to face the outside world. It seemed unbearable to her. It hurt her too much to see other people frolicking around in happiness when she had just had her heart broken. What had gone wrong with Hayate? Why had he broken things off with her? The questions still rattled her mind, and it caused her to fall into a deep depression.

She watched the season change from the window in her bedroom. The leaves had turned from green to shades of orange and yellow. Dead leaves littered the ground, crunching under the feet of people who walked by. Everything was dying, like she was. Kaiya felt like she was dying inside, and it was impossible to find any good left in the world. She had made such progress when it came to her self-esteem only to have it ripped away from her. She felt worthless now. Empty, and cold. It wasn't a new feeling, just a very old one from her past.

Kaiya finally found the strength (somehow) to leave her cottage on this day. Her wings had lost their luster, and she seemed paler than usual. Her feet dragged along the ground, and surprisingly they carried her to the stables. Kaiya had, before the break-up with Hayate, found that she enjoyed spending time at the stables with the horses. They were always so accepting of her, neighing happily when she came around to brush them or feed them sugar cubes. A ghost of a smile crossed the fae's lips as she flew over the fence and into the enclosure. One of the horses recognized her, and immediately he trotted over and nudged her in the arm.

"Konnichiwa," she said softly into its ear as her hand smoothed along its mane. "She is sorry that she has not come by to visiting with you." Her English was, as always, still in the works. The Elven steed nudged her again, as if it could sense the sadness coming from her. Kaiya smiled, and shook her head. "She is fine," she said while hugging the horse, oblivious to the fact that someone had been watching her.

Back home among the farmlands of Scotland, Sheldon would see herds of horses and would always want to go horseback riding but never took the chance to pursue it. He guessed he thought besides the races it was too much of a sport for girls. When he got to the stables, he could help but let his nature to try new things set in. He ventured only for awhile on stallion that was actually quite stubborn. Luckily, Sheldon didn’t have the comedic misfortune of falling on his rear end.

Sheldon was securing the horse in its set enclosure within the stable when he heard someone speak. Minutes before there was no one there. How could there be two "no one there’s" all so sudden? The psychic turned to see Kaiya talking to the horse a few enclosures down from him. It made him smile yet a frown crossed his face all in the same. There wasn’t the same glow to her. Literally. He remembered the last time they talked. Her wings lived up to the term iridescent. Now they almost looked like a dying light bulb. He could tell something was wrong by the tone of her voice as well. Though maybe she wanted to be by herself, Sheldon at least wanted to let her know he was glad to see her again.

“Hi.” He spoke softly, lifting up a hand in sign of a wave. He tried at best not to scare her before he continued talking. “That’s a really pretty horse. Didn’ like me. But it really seems to like you.” Sheldon tucked his hands in his back pockets. “I haven’t seen you in awhile.” It was stated almost in realization to himself but mostly curiously towards the fae.

Kaiya was startled by the voice that spoke, but she immediately smiled when she saw who it belonged to. "Sheldon-kun," she said, her wings lighting up slightly at his appearance. She stepped back from the horse that she was tending to, nodding at his statement that the animal was pretty. "Hai. He is bery beautiful, yes?" She stroked the horse's cheek, and he whinnied in compliance. Its nose nudged against her hand, and it brought forth a small laugh from the fae.

Kaiya stepped away from the horse in order to approach Sheldon. It was nice to see a friendly face after all of the time she had spent in her cottage. She had closed herself off for two weeks, and though she didn't think it was possible, just being outside and being around people was beginning to make her feel better. Still, the painful memory of the break-up with Hayate lingered in the back of her mind. The sharp sting of the slap he delivered to her cheek was also a vivid memory.

"She has been staying... ano... I have been at my house." Her hand reached up to her heart, and she gave him a look to indicate that her heart hurt. "She has been... not feeling well."

Sheldon took a moment to see if there was any place to sit and after a moment he gently held her elbow and guided her to a bench near the front of the stables. Her skin felt so soft and her arm it felt so..fragile. That’s why he barely held unto it when he sat her on the bench. He wasn’t one to demand eye contact, but he was trying his best to get the fae to talk about what had hurt her so much.

“Kaiya.” Usually, he really didn’t give a shit. As he told Caden with her it was a little different. He never met girls who were actually..kind. Who had something different about them that enticed him to care. He would kick his best friend’s ass if they saw him like this. He always played a front like he didn’t really care all the time. But that wasn’t so.

“Tell me what is wrong.” He whispered it to her, but it was somewhat stern. “What went wrong.” He looked around in an encouraging matter, proving no one was around. “I won’t tell anyone if you’re afraid I will tell someone. Plus, I'm worried.”

Kaiya flinched a little when Sheldon took a hold of her by the elbow, but relaxed a few seconds afterward. She was still a bit skittish after the encounter from Hayate as it brought forth a lot of memories of her past. She tried to smile for Sheldon, but his demeanor told her that he knew something was wrong. Kaiya wasn't sure if she could properly express what exactly had happened, but he seemed so caring. Could she really trust someone to be like that with her again considering that Hayate had blown her off so easily?

Though he hadn't really. It was Faye who had misconstrued everything that had happened, and she did attack Hayate first that day. Hayate had told her that he wasn't ready for a relationship, but she worried that it secretly meant something was wrong with her. If she had been stable enough to accept his words, perhaps the situation would not have escalated the way it did.

She looked up at him with doe-like eyes when he spoke, a breath passing in between her slightly parted lips. He was speaking to her in a firm manner, but she supposed it was only because he was worried. At least that was what he claimed. "Kaiya has..." she began quietly. "Been sad over a friend. He was not wishing to see Kaiya anymore." That was about as simply as she could explain a break-up. Hopefully, Sheldon would understand her words and why she was so upset.

It took only a brief moment for Sheldon to understand Kaiya. He was usually on the other side of the spectrum. He was the one who told people he didn’t want to see them anymore. The psychic would maintain a short relationship and then before it got too serious, he would break it off. He never really took the time to see how one might react, but now he was seeing it first hand. Kaiya must have really liked this person. “I’m sorry. Maybe you had…differences?” Maybe he was an asshole, was what he was really thinking but he was sure that was a bit harsh.

“He isn’t worth it then. You should..move on.” Sheldon was curious to know who this man was. It wasn’t his business, so he just asked about the time they spent together. If the fae liked him for a long time, he could understand why she was so affected. Plus, the psychic could see her attaching to people she felt safe with. “Were you guys together for a long time?”

He looked towards the colored leaves ahead of him. “Kaiya..you don’t have to answer that. I know it's a personal question.”

Little did Sheldon know that Kaiya had never been in a real relationship before. It was hard to be in one when you were a prostitute and living in a brothel. Men only wanted one thing from her back then, and she gave it willingly only because she had no other choice. She didn't know that there were other options for her life until she came to Elysium. Things had changed for her, and she found herself falling for the tricks played by Hayate.

She glanced over at Sheldon, smiling a little as he tried to comfort her. He really was a nice guy. Why couldn't she have met him first instead of Hayate, she wondered. Kaiya sighed softly while playing with the ends of her hair. She wasn't sure what she could say to Sheldon, and so she nodded when he mentioned 'differences'. Yes, Kaiya supposed they did have differences. He didn't have wings like she did, even though he was fae. And his hair was blonde while hers was black. Were those the kinds of differences that Sheldon meant?

Kaiya didn't quite understand what he said next, so she just smiled and nodded. She also didn't understand his question, and it was obvious by the look that drew itself upon her face. "Were... to-get-her... long... time?" She was trying to translate each word in her head, but she was too muddled with other thoughts that it became difficult. Kaiya shook her head and sigh.

"Kaiya is not understanding," she explained with a sad face. "She is sorry." She reached out to touch Sheldon's hand, and tried to smile for him so he wouldn't worry.

It was somewhat ironic that for once Sheldon was having a somewhat meaningful conversation and the poor girl wasn’t able to speak much English. While she was indeed getting better, it still seemed quite hard for her. Plus, if she was able to communicate with him about her past, he would seriously think she was finding an odd way to joke with him. Though of course he doubted prostitution was a joke in her eyes. Never would he have thought she would have been forced to live such a life. Or maybe he would block out the possibility. But then again it would explain so many things.

The psychic took her small, frail hand and looked onward with slightly squinted eyes. “I promise you..it will be okay. There is no need to be sorry.” Perhaps she understood that much. Whoever this guy was, maybe one day she would understand he wasn’t worth it. Sheldon always felt bad when Kaiya apologized. He wish he could go into detail that she didn’t have to apologize for everything. But maybe it would upset her, especially since she did not understand English into that much detail. “No need for so many sorry’s.” Is what he finally came up with. It seemed like it would make enough sense.

“When you are upset, you should come here. Animals..make better friends.” He teased, trying to lighten the mood.

Kaiya tried her hardest to learn English, but she had been lax in her studies the past few weeks. A broken heart tended to halt any other thought process, making it hard to focus on anything except the pain that she felt. But then again, heartache made everything else in her past seem like child's play. Kaiya thought that she could deal with the prostitution and abuse just as long as her feelings did not get hurt. Physical wounds were always easier to overcome than emotional ones.

She looked down at their entwined hands, smiling at the kindness that was shown to her. Though it was hard for her to fully explain what it was that bothered her, Sheldon seemed to grasp that she was hurting. It meant a lot to the fae that someone was able to empathize with her. Kaiya nodded at his words, understanding what he was saying. Perhaps she shouldn't apologize for so many things; after all, what had she done to apologize for?

Sheldon's next words brought a smile to Kaiya's face, a genuine one, and she nodded. "The horses... they do not hurt Kaiya's feelings," she added softly. "But Sheldon-kun is very good friend, too. He is worried about Kaiya, and he is making Kaiya feel better." She heaved a sigh of relief, wanting nothing more than to get past feeling sorry for herself or the fact that Hayate had broken up with her. Maybe Faye was right - she was too good for him.

But Kaiya was far from feeling one-hundred percent better. What she needed now was to be comforted, and to feel that despite what had happened to her with Hayate that someone still wanted her. It was that sub-conscious reason that made Kaiya suddenly leaned forward to kiss Sheldon on the cheek. It was a gentle kiss, and it held some tones of shyness to it. But there was something else there, an unspoken want that lingered just beneath the surface. Her lips stayed pressed to his face for several seconds before she spoke softly.

"Arigatou, Sheldon-kun," she said, soft breath falling against his cheek. She wasn't purposefully being coy seeing as she had never been that way her entire life. But she desperately needed human contact at that moment and Kaiya couldn't pull away from Sheldon immediately. She did after several seconds though, cheeks blushing wildly from her actions. She wanted to apologize, but he had said she didn't need to anymore. She remained quiet as she waited for some sort of response.

If Sheldon could make someone feel better throughout the day, it made his job during the night hours seem a little less entertaining. He was finding himself better at talking with people when he wasn’t sliding drinks down a long table with a loud piano echoing through the wine bar. Yelling a conversation was far less meaningful. Not to mention he often spoke to depressed drunks who often were quite rude to him the next day. There was a genuine sense of caring when he talked to Kaiya. When she talked, he listened. When the fae said he was making her feel better, it made him feel a sense of accomplishment. “I’m glad I could be of some help.”

When Kaiya had kissed the psychic’s cheek a sense of warmth tickled the area and he slowly spoke while her lips were still pressed against his cheek. He could feel the smooth surface of them slightly glide across his cheek. “Your welcome.” He somewhat whispered nervously. Sheldon was frozen in a tight stare, gazing at the scenery ahead of him. He was unsure how to breathe, how to move, how to speak any further. Could he..no should he try and seek out more than just a kiss on the cheek? No..No that was taking advantage of her.

It took him a few moments to turn towards her so he could gaze at her face which seemed to be burning with a blush. A blush seemed like a blush on any other person. But on the fae, it somehow drew some sort of strong attention to her face. That was going to be Sheldon’s excuse, his reason as to why he brought himself close to Kaiya ever so carefully to kiss her. Being compelled to kiss someone by a blush wasn’t going to hold up for an excuse, but it would work for now.

His lips were certain in the kiss, but his mind was telling him he was wrong for doing so. Sadly he was one for doing something before listening.

It was unusual for someone to do something for Kaiya for her sake alone. Normally they had an ulterior motive, and that motive usually consisted of making themselves feel better. But Sheldon seemed different, he seemed to care about what Kaiya thought and felt. Even if she couldn't communicate with him properly, he still stayed with her and that brought a smile to her face.

Perhaps the kiss initiated by Sheldon was something he shouldn't have done, but it was exactly what the fae needed in that moment. She accepted it fervently, her hand reaching up to rest in the crook between his neck and shoulder. She shyly slid her tongue into Sheldon's mouth; slow at first, testing the waters to see if it was something that the man wanted. Kaiya was so fragile at this juncture that she wouldn't be able to deal with another rejection. But that was something that Sheldon knew nothing about. He didn't know of her troubled past, or the emotional scars that still lingered after so many years.

Kaiya drew herself closer to him, wanting to feel his arms around her body. She just needed to be accepted, even if it was for a short time. Sadly, the fae held no expectations from the psychic. She learned from Hayate that expectations led to heartache, and that her habits from the brothels were the best way to deal with men - they came and they went, and she should never hold an attachment to them. It had kept her alive for this long, and it was foolish of the fae to try and change her method of survival.

In the heat of the moment, Sheldon wasn’t the type to really think about what others were thinking if they reacted to his advances. He guessed…she wanted to kiss him, didn’t she? She was furthering a kiss that simply started out as somewhat experimental. He was tangling his tongue with hers a little feverishly while he drew her close to him. His hands crept up her shirt to feel the soft flesh underneath the fabric. Everything about her was gentle. He wouldn’t reject her, but if she wanted to stop, he wouldn’t hesitate to let her go.

His lips moved to her neck, savoring the flesh while he gently pushed her back on the bench. As he hovered over her, he looked at her for a moment as if contemplating if he was doing the right thing. Honestly the back of his mind was thinking no, but he was thinking yes otherwise.

It was hard to believe the stables were going to be a forgetful place. Especially the bench they were laying at.
