Who: Adair and Constance
When: Night
Where: The Temple
What: Adair comes to the temple to find peace..and finds a friend

Temples. Places of silence, peace, tranquility and all that shit-right? Adair and everyone inside had better hoped so. With a headache as bad as the one he had now and with no meds of the legal and illegal kinds working he was going old school. In the movies the temples always seemed to work. Of course that was the movies, this was the real life.

It took him forever to find the temple’s location. His feet were sore, his pack of cigarettes was nearly empty and his headache was pounding to the pattern of his footsteps. “For the record.” He stated to no one. “I don’t do this shit normally.” He put out the cigarette dangling from his lips and headed inside.

The temple was enormous and he stood by the doorway to admire the interior for a moment before he walked down an aisle, touching the wood benches along the way. What was he to do? Go to the alter, pick a bench? This was like church where he felt like a moron being inside either way. Hey! Maybe the closer he sat, the better chance he had of the headache from hell going away.

He went close to the alter and concentrated on his headache going away, not the headache itself. After several minutes..nothing

“Oh fucken’ hell. I’m doomed to die from a headache. I’d screw a gorgon for a Vicodin.” He covered his mouth and looked around. “I’ll say five Hail Mary’s for that.” He whispered.

Constance had come to the temple tonight to speak with Dylan. After the episode with Adam yesterday, she had been rattled inside and out. Adam had never spoken to her like that, and she knew the boy needed his space. Constance knew when to not step on other's toes, and Adam wanted his space away from her to clear his mind. He would come back to her and talk to her once he had time to himself. Every boy had to pull away from their mother. Adam spent his entire life by her side, and she was going to grant him this for his own good.

Dylan had offered her some comfort, but he had left her to her thoughts around twenty minutes ago. Constance sat in one of the pews and stared ahead of herself. The temple was mostly empty at night, and she hadn't even heard the newcomer make his entrance. She probably wouldn't have heard him if an anvil fell from his hands the second he walked through the door. That was how absorbed in her head she was because of Adam's words to her. Dylan's talk had only worked for as long he was around her and speaking. The moment her friend left, silence built up in the room and Constance felt like her mind wanted to collapse in on itself.

Finally, the younger man's sudden outburst drew her attention to him. Constance crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him. Even she knew to show some respect in a holy place, but she wasn't in a mood to get onto people. Luckily for Adair, she was drained.

"I doubt Euryale would appreciate hearing that," Constance mused. "She might take offense to that meaning her hair isn't in style anymore."

Adair jumped when he heard a voice, but managed to control himself from making a loud noise within the temple. “Jes-“ he coughed. “Geez. You scared me there. Guess I was so into my own shi-stuff that I didn’t see you there.” He pointed to his forehead. ‘I got a headache the size of this sanctuary. No matter what I do it won’t go away. It’s pissing me off.” Pissing wasn’t a bad word within a temple right? Man, he didn’t want bad karma or something. Did like..gods watch over this place? Man, he needed to know how this place worked or he was going to look like an enormous idiot.

He laughed in regards to Euryale. “I guess that look is always in style. You know freaky, makes you want to run for your life hair?” Adair sat across from her with a friendly smile. “Sorry about the outburst. I’m Adair.” He offered his hand to her and looked around the giant temple. “This place is huge. What brings you here? Got an annoying headache too? Or do you just chill here from time to time?”

She looked like someone important. Not like people had ‘I’m important’ written across them, but she seemed like someone who had a high place in Elysium. He was lucky the woman didn’t scold him for what he said.

Constance leaned forward in her seat on the pew, resting her arms on the back of the pew in front of her. "Well," she replied with a smirk on her features, "you wouldn't be the first person I managed to do that, too. Not in here, but I've got a record of catching people off guard." Even though he went on to tell her about his headache, she had already overhead him talking about his headache was going to kill him. "I gathered as much," she commented, clearly amused how he felt somehow coming here might make it go away. She also came here for a little relief, though, so she really couldn't blame him for the decision to show up at the temple tonight.

She raised an eyebrow at the way he talked about Euryale's hair. Considering she was the last of her kind left alive, any insult to gorgons was pretty much a direct insult to Euryale. "Didn't your momma teach you not to talk about other people?" Constance demanded, although her tone was playful with the young man. She wasn't going to scold him for cursing, but she'd scold him for talking funny about Euryale. Constance had a principle when it came to showing respect to people, and if it weren't for Euryale, they'd probably all be dead right about now because of a war they had no means of escaping.

She held out her hand to shake his, though, and smiled at him. "Constance Alexie," she introduced herself. She looked ahead towards the front of the room. "I came here for some guidance from a friend of mine, and maybe a little bit of comfort." Her eyes darted over to Adair as her finger pointed upward at the ceiling. "Not that friend, but a real friend," she said. She wasn't bashing religion with that statement. Constance really just meant a friend with a corporeal body.

Adair was quick to give out his hand hastilymthough didn’t want to seem like a kiss ass. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m really sorry for my entrance into this place.” He gave a playful frown. “I tend to have a potty mouth wherever I go. Temple or not. I guess I should have been a sailor.” He didn’t know if that was playful statement or not. Being a sailor would have actually been pretty badass.

“So you came here for guidance?” He repeated. He chuckled a little when she let him know it wasn’t towards a ‘higher power’. Adair had no idea if that was what he believed in. Right now he believed that the ceiling was pretty now that he took a look at it. Other than that, thinking about religion would just make his headache worse. About ten times about what it was now.

“If you don’t mind me asking how so?” He crossed his arms. “I know one time I asked for guidance from a friend on how to quit smoking.” He gave somewhat of a sheepish look. “I mean that failed, but I know people ask others for guidance on many things." The psychic then gave a sincere look. I mean if it isn’t my business you can tell me to fu-er bugger off.”

He would have hated to seem nosey, but sometimes strangers could truly help each other. It was a common belief he believed in.

Constance smiled at him and shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, too,” she said, “and don’t worry about it. It’s not like I own the place. The priests are more likely to get on your case about having a potty mouth than I am.” She leaned in as if to share a secret with him. “But they’re not here right now, so no worries.” Constance leaned back in her seat again and gave Adair a little wink.

She nodded her head. “Yeah,” Constance answered. She needed some guidance, or at least a supportive friend, due to the trouble she was currently having with Adam. It was hard on the grandmother to have to deal with something like that this late in life when she was so used to Adam following her blindly. Maybe it was time for him to finally grow up, though, and not lean on her so much.

His curiosity caused her smile to come back. It was nice of him to be concerned, and maybe some of it was just pure curiosity considering his own troubles. There might have been bigger things going on in his life than headaches, after all. Constance exhaled a breath of air and crossed her arms loosely over her chest. “Well, it’s hard asking for guidance on physical matters and expecting good results. Anyone can tell you to quit smoking. It doesn’t mean it’s going to work.” She turned to look at Adair. “The trick is not to get someone to tell you what to do, though. You need someone who understands your emotional predicament. Someone who can coach you to think positively. Someone to help you keep your head on your shoulders.”

Constance pressed her lips together briefly, glancing ahead at the front of the large room again. It looked so much different at night than it did during the daylight hours. “I didn’t come here for someone to tell me what to do. I came here to find someone to help me ease my mind and relax myself, so that I could see for myself the best path to take.”

Adair smirked for a moment. “I used to get smacked over the head in church for cursing around the priests. Not to mention I would fake singing and I would also try and steal the donation money. I figured if I was going to donate it or something to something I found cooler, I was in the clear. But when I got the lecture that I may go to hell for stealing ‘holy money’ I never put my hands near charity money again.” Ah, the good times of being a child. Man, people really took potential sins seriously. He was scared back then for going to hell for silly things like that, now it was hilarious. He was only about eight or so at the time.

In regards for someone not telling him what do as far as smoking, he let out an annoyed sigh. “Someone did tell me what to do. She almost beat me up.” He lifted an annoyed lip. “Like that is going to help. I am kind of defiant when someone tries to kick my ass as a way to tell me to do something. Either than or I almost piss myself. If they were nice, though I would probably still not stop, I would consider not smoking around others at least.” He tapped his fingers on his leg. “But I know it is a bad habit and someone wise like you could have a better chance at getting me to stop. The way you word it would make me feel like Rocky if I actually beat the nicotine monster.”

When Adair wanted advice about what path to take, it meant he was having some personal issues, or someone in his life was being a little difficult. Or maybe he had a crush on something. Hell, he didn’t know.

“Ah, I see. You know when that happens that means I have troubles in life and different opinions are needed. I know in my case..I somewhat fail in dealing with situations so guidance from other people help a great deal. Like-the other day someone was giving me a hard time..and sometimes I have no idea how to come across to some people without seeming a like a jackass. But some of my friends help me with how I should speak towards people when they give me some difficulties.” He shrugged a little shyly.

“Or when I get nervous on how to make a step forward here, I ask friends as well. Sometimes I get in this mood where I figure that if I believe I am in a place where I don’t have to do much..I get sluggish. So, I count on people to get my ass moving. Though I know I can’t rely on people all the time. I guess that’s how I use guidance. So I think asking for guidance is a good thing. No matter the age.” He looked over to her quickly. “Uhm, not saying you are old or anything!”

Constance let out a hearty chuckle at Adair's confession. It was certainly a story she had never heard before. She liked that. He was certainly an interesting fellow. A light smirk appeared on her lips as he spoke of someone who tried to get him to stop smoking. "Threatened to beat you up, huh? Yeah, that doesn't often work, but I can understand where she's coming from." Constance glanced over at Adair, the smile reaching her eyes and wrinkling the corners. "Smoking is bad for you, but we all have our bad habits. Sometimes I drink a little more than I should, and I think drinking's worse than smoking. It kicks the shit out of your liver, and you only got one liver. You got two lungs, and maybe a better chance of surviving that . . . "

Her thoughts were a little random, and Constance cleared her throat to pause her rambling.

She laughed aloud once he mentioned her age. "I know I'm old," Constance said, looking over to smile. She moved to stand up from the pew, placing a hand on her back as she felt an ache creeping up. "Yeah, my body isn't rock solid like it used to be. I guess that's the beauty of growing old, even with carmot." She turned to look at Adair, one of her hands still on her back, and extended her hand to him. "Well, it was nice meeting you, young man. You take care tonight, you hear?" She clapped him on the shoulder with two firm pats. "And don't let anyone boss you around. You've gotta make up your own mind."

She offered him another smile and made her way towards the exit. It was late, and she really should be getting home. "Don't stay out too late!" she called back, lifting up one of her arms for him to see.

“It was nice meeting you too.” Adair complimented back before he moved to go in the opposite direction of the women he had just met once he had left the exit. It was interesting to know that despite not being a fan of places like the temple, he could really meet a friend. “Perhaps I’ll see you around!”

When he saw Constance wave a hand, he waved a hand in return before walking slowly towards his residence. He suddenly realized his headache was gone. Adair smiled and paused for a moment before he continued his journey to the Forest Cottages.
