Who: Jia, Daiyu and Zosimus
When: Afternoon
Where: The Gift Shop
What: Meeting a (addoraable xD) new friend

Jia was attempting to find things that her and her sister could do together. Morning through nights of silent treatments was growing a little frustrating and if she had to be the one who had to break the cycle of immaturity and work on a way they could get along better, then so be it. The whole day she was reciting what she could say to Daiyu without her shooting her down.

She went to the art shop and the two managed to have a nice lunch together at the restaurant. Though they mostly talked about art related things and perhaps a few guys here and there, it was better than nothing. Jia then proposed they decorated their cottage and that seemed to perk up her sister very much so. It made Jia even more hopeful that they would get along when Daiyu agreed to come to the gift shop to help her out for an hour or so since the art shop was slow.

When the two walked to the gift shop they noticed a young boy. It was a a centaur in fact. The two were not shocked, especially Jia who walked a bit closer. “Are you lost?” She tilted her head with a friendly smile. “Or may I help you?”

One of the old ladies was having a birthday soon. Zosimus wanted to make her a gift but had no ideas. After asking one of the other adults, and making them swear to secrecy not to tell the old woman, he found out that there was a shopping place. Of course Zosimus knew Helcharis existed, but he'd never been. Now seemed like a perfect opportunity to check it out and hopefully get something as a gift. The lady was so nice she needed a little something from their youngest member (by several years) to show appreciation.

So that was how Sims ended up standing outside the gift shop, arms crossed over his chest as he stood next to the door. He couldn't go in. Well, it wasn't that he couldn't because he could easily fit through that door. He was still small enough. No, it was the fact that he'd been told not to go inside human buildings. Safety reasons, and he wouldn't be able to fit in a few years time. And those years would go by fast. But he really wanted to get that old woman a gift!

That was when Jia and Daiyu appeared. Turning around with a shuffling of his hooves. These ladies looked kind of like Irei! He smiled. "Um," he didn't know if either of them worked at the shop or not but he did need help. He could tell. "I want a gift,' he said. Zosimus had no fear of strangers any longer. After the nice people he kept meeting it didn't even bother him. "It's Sibyl's birthday. She's 167!" The boy sounded very excited to be sharing this. She was very old!

But because she was old and had seen a lot of things, Zosimus didn't want to give her just anything. He was the kind of little boy that needed to give the BEST gift he could possibly give. That was the end of that story. Now if only he could go in to the store to look around, or have someone get something for him. From the window and door he could kind of see a few things that he liked. There was some pretty glass decorations, but he wasn't sure what the woman would do with it. Maybe hang it by her bed?

Jia thought she had just encountered the cutest thing of the species ever. The boy was so shy and she could tell stores were his worst enemy so whatever he was looking for had some sort of great meaning to him. Daiyu was further back from her sister and rolling her eyes at how her sister reacted to everything. It was always so loving or over the top. But at least the kid wouldn’t be scared.

“167!? Jia repeated in shock.” That truly was old, she wondered how long his species could live for. “That truly is a bit old, congratulations to her!” Jia sounded excited to, Daiyu didn’t know what to say and she thought she better not say anything since all that came to mind was ‘holy shit that is old’. But Daiyu still was offering a friendly smile the entire time. She thought the kid was as adorable as all hell.

“Come on in!” Jia encouraged brightly. “What do you think she will like? We do have stuffed animals and all. But I am guessing she is older than that.” Jia had a week spot for kids. “Do you want one?” She offered, not thinking he was the stereotypical kid that liked toys and all. But she figured she could sneak one to him for free. “Or we have toy swords and all that!” Daiyu shook her head and proceeded to look around the place for things the boy might like for this person who seemed to mean a lot.

“Maybe some pottery? There is decorated tea pots and things of the sorts.”

Everyone thought Zosimus was cute; he was no longer surprised by their reactions. So long as they didn't go around pinching his cheeks he wouldn't really care. He knew that people liked him, for whatever reason, and the boy didn't want to lose that. Losing those connections meant he lost friends--the boy needed friends. Preferably his own age, considering all of the adults he was surrounded by, but having people to look up to and learn from wasn't so bad.

"She is old," laughed the lad as he watched the woman react. She was kind of silly. The thought that she didn't know about Centaurs had yet to occur to him, so he found her amusing. Centaurs could grow to be 200, though Zosimus hoped he didn't live that long. That was a lot of years to be had. Maybe the age of 150; not as bad. Age aside, however, Zosimus watched the girls go in to the store. He remained outside.

"I can't," he told her. Zosimus would have gone in long ago if he were allowed. "That's why I'm looking through the door and windows. I'm allowed inside." Beginning a habit just to break it was a bad idea. Not to mention he wouldn't be able to miss going inside most of these places when he was too big because he wouldn't know what he was missing out on. Of course there were many of the shops around Helcharis that he could fit through their doors, but there were also many that he couldn't. The gift shop happened to be one of them.

So he avoided her other questions, hung up on the fact that she wanted him in and he was stuck out. But he did listen and thought the idea of pottery would be nice. He didn't want toys. Sims had no need with his imagination alongside his arrow practice and lessons. He was a busy boy most days if he wasn't out and about. Not to mention he had no idea what a stuffed animal was. It sounded. . .unpleasant. Were they real animals, killed, and then filled with something to keep it fat? Zosimus made a face.

Daiyu looked over to Jia with crossed arms. “Well it looks like you scared the boy when it comes to stuffed animals.” So much for Jia being good with the kid. Jia was determined to fix what the term meant and she trotted inside, feeling bad that the boy was unable to come inside. Soon after the younger of the two came out with a cute teddy bear that was stuffed with nothing but cotton. “This is what I meant. I’m sorry if it sounded odd or scary to you.” She handed him the bear so he could at least inspect it. Daiyu chuckled a bit and walked closer to the centaur. “How old may you be?”

The older of the psychometric decided that if the two were going to talk she may as well offer her name. When she was young she never talked to strangers. “My name is Daiyu. The other one is Jia.” Jia have a friendly wave and stood beside her twin sister. “It’s nice to meet you.” She frowned about the door. “Sorry about the door thing. I think they should make it big enough for all species.”

Daiyu nodded in agreement and went inside to look for more gifts including pottery along with sweets to go along with it. “Does she like sweets or anything!” She yelled from within the shop.

What, really, was to be expected of a young Centaur boy? He had never seen a stuffed toy before and it seemed kind of silly that he would have. Those were human things, toys and such. His toys consisted of things he had made himself or his bow and arrow. His imagination. Zosimus was quite different than his fellow children at his age. They were raised in entirely different worlds that the other probably had never been opened to. This was exciting, frightening, and strange.

Looking over the stuffed teddy his eyes squinted. When he tentatively took it from Jia he realized that it did not have bear fur but some other kind of. . .fuzz. "Bears don't feel like this," he said knowingly as he turned the squishy and plump thing over in his hands. "It has no butt. I'm ten. Why doesn't it have a butt?" Confused, his gray eyes turned up to the women as his long brown tail swished behind him. Oh he had so many questions going on inside his little mind now. Aside from it not having a butt, he wanted to know why it felt so soft and fluffy. Why were it's eyes strange jewels or it's nose hard and not leathery like a real bear's nose. Sims did not seem to grasp the idea, yet, that this was a replica of a bear. A very cute and cuddly replica.

"I'm Zosimus," said the boy to Daiyu with a small smile. He still had an endearing look of confusion upon his face. But he trot on over to a window and stood on his hind legs, the knees of his front pair leaning on the building with his hands on the sill.

"I don't know. What's that?" He pointed to a shelf nearby with various ceramic bowls and several selections of vases. Zosimus liked the white vase, thinking he could paint on it before giving it to the old woman. Then she could put flowers in it.

Daiyu couldn’t help but laugh at the boys response to the stuffed animal. “The bear doesn’t have a butt because it isn’t real. Real bears are way too scary to come close to. Well at least for us metahumans. These are just cool toys for kids who need something to comfort them. Plus! I mean come on they are cute!” Of course she wasn’t going to push the boy any further about the stuffed bear thing; she knew it had to be very strange to him. Daiyu always forgot that for many species, they were worlds apart.

Upon hearing his name, Jia had a tilted head and a very cute expression on her face. “Zosimus?” She smiled as if that was some odd name from another planet. “I have never heard of that name. It’s a cute name, I like it. I doubt I will ever hear of such a name again, but is it common for centaurs?” Daiyu rolled her eyes but went for the vase the young centaur had discovered. If he was only ten, that meant he had many years ahead of him.

The older of the psychometrics usually knew people wanted to paint vases and such. “It’s fairly plain. But you see you can go to the ceramics and paint this however you want. After they glaze it, it is all set for you to take home. I work at the art supply store and hand them the colors so you can paint it whatever colors you wish. You can even put designs on here if you want.”

“That would be a great idea!” Jia encouraged.

This bear was not a real bear? Well that made a little more sense, but why did people find the need to replicate it? Bears were scary. She even said so! Ah well, Zosimus wasn't going to argue and he handed it back with a polite smile. "No thanks," he said while doing so. He didn't want to be rude, his family taught him better than that. So instead he continued to look around the store.

"It's Greek," he said in an act to display his vast knowledge. "It means. . .um. . .uh. . .the one to survive." Maybe. Looking a bit sheepish as he smiled cheekily, Sims moved his hands on the sill as his rear hooves stomped on the ground. His legs were tired for he was just not meant to stand up like a normal person. Not that normal people could get themselves to seven feet tall because they had no hind legs. But that was beside the point. "Greek names are, I guess. Depends on your family?" Tilting his head to the side, the boy dropped down away from the wall to stretch out his legs. They kicked at the air behind him one at a time, shaking, before he turned and put his body parallel to the wall. He would just have to keep over the window.

"Oh, okay. Um, what're those?" Zosimus had listened to most of what the ladies had said before his eyes began to wander and caught view of some sparkling pieces of blown glass. They came in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Zosimus quite liked the elephant. He had never seen an elephant before, nor had he seen many of the animals on the shelf.

Daiyu gave an impressed hum when it came to Zosimus’ name. “Wow. I like that. My name means black jade and my sisters name means..” She rolled her eyes. “Beautiful.” Of course her sister was indeed pretty but their parents always went on and on about how fitting their names were for them. What the hell was that supposed to mean for Daiyu’s sake? “Our name meaning is nowhere as awesome as yours.” She complimented.

Jia lifted up the elephant Zosimus had pointed out. “It’s a glass elephant. It comes in a few colors. One has sparkles of blues and greens and purples. Another one has yellows, greens and pink. You wouldn’t think they would work but they actually turned out quite beautifully.” She displayed both of them. One of the elephants had eyes of green, the other eyes of blue.

“I think it is a hard choice.” Daiyu stated. “But I like the yellow, green and pink one. It just looks really neat. Plus I mean..elephants are so cute.”

Sims would probably later find his name ironic to some degree once he was older, understood what the word "ironic" meant, and knew how all of his herd had been slaughtered by the panicked humans. But for now he merely thought it was nifty because, really, who didn't want to have a cool meaning for their name? He only smiled and looked between them with innocent, child eyes. "I think you're both pretty," he said after deciding. Zosimus thought everything was pretty or ugly at this point in his life--not that he went out looking for pretty or sparkly things. He was just impressionable and it seemed many of the magical things here in Elysium were very lovely. Such was the way of the so-called "myths."

"Hm." His blue-gray eyes looked between the two. He liked the blue one because he liked blue things, blue was a good color, but he figured the old Centaur would like the other one better. Pointing at it, he decided. But not before asking, "what's an elephant?"

Jia tried to think of a simple way to describe an elephant. He saw a glass version of one, but it was nowhere near as amazing as a true elephant . The psychometric ran a hand through her hair before she spoke up softly. “An Elephant is a large land mammal, the largest land mammal there is. You see it can weigh up to seven thousand seven hundred pounds! These are the African males of course. There are also Asian elephants.”

She picked up the glass figure Zosimus was planning to pick out for the old centaur. “You see their natural color is gray.” She then pointed to the trunk, its long piece up in the air like many typical glass structures. “You see, this here thing is like their main part of their body. It helps reach for food, gives them baths because they can suck in water with it and if they are in deep water it can act like a snorkel.”

Daiyu looked at her sister with a mute expression. Jia simply continued. “Also. These sharp things you see on this figure..in real life they are called tusks. Elephants use these as weapons and as ways to clear paths. Sadly they are also killed for these tusks. Some pianos are even made out of their tusks. You know ‘ivory keys’.” She made a sad sigh.

The older of the two cleared her throat and handed Zosimus the cool colored elephant. “Uhm..here you go.” God, her sister talked too much sometimes.

That was a lot of information to swallow. Daiyu was right, her sister did talk a little too much. Zosimus only blinked at her in question before sighing. He was still stuck on "African." Only within the last month had he learned of Japan and, through that, Asia. While he may have had map study in the near future before his herd had been slaughtered, now all of that was going far slower. His herd here seemed glad to teach him more Centaur specific things. Why teach the boy about countries that may not exist by the time all of this was over?

Making a face, the brunette boy took the elephant and smiled at the elder. "Thanks!" he said. In his hands he held the glass creature carefully before turning his head back to Jia. She seemed to know a lot which meant she could answer a lot. Opening his mouth, many questions tumbled forth and bombarded the pretty Chinese lady.

"What's an African? And a snorkel? And a piano? Oh, what's 'ivory keys?'" Smiling sweetly when he was done, he backed up from the window and sat himself on the ground outside. "You can tell me!" he called up from his seat. "My legs are just tired so I'm gonna sit!" And so he did, waiting patiently for her to answer his abundance of questions.

Jia gave her new friends questions thought for a minute. Hmm, what was Africa? Negatively it was a poor country, very hot and celebrities often would use the country to adopt kids or promote anti-AIDS campaigns. But..unto the positive. Daiyu almost seemed to have been able to read her sisters mind and gave her sister a pointed look. So, Jia cleared her throat and smiled towards Zosimus. “Africa is a beautiful country with many exotic, wild animals. There are tigers, jaguars and cheetahs. The landscape is hot like desert and it can be dangerous.”

Daiyu looked down at the sitting centaur. “Well a snorkel can also be used for diving. It looks like a tube and can help you breathe. Like..you go underwater and the tube stays above water! It’s quite fun. It’s often attacked to goggles. In the case of the elephants..that’s their tube thingie.” She laughed. “I know confusing. But that’s a snorkel.”

Jia gave a wide-eyed look when it came to the piano. “You have never heard of the piano!?” She exclaimed. “It’s an instrument, with eighty eight keys and it plays music!”

Nodding, Zosimus put a hand to his chin as he thought about this place called Africa. Deserts didn't sound beautiful, he thought. But then again she said it was hot, not necessarily all a desert. He pondered the vision for a moment, it looking very much like the place he left if only because it was all he knew. The boy had never seen pictures of a desert, only knew it had a lot of sand and looked like a beach. Minus the water, of course. Sims had never seen what the amazon looked like, or knew what any of those great cats appeared to be. He only knew they were feline in species. Exotic was a word not known to him, but that mostly passed over his head and he went off of her description of beautiful. "I see!" he finally said with a nod.

Daiyu's choice words for snorkel made it all the more understandable, though should he ever see one in person he probably wouldn't know what it was. He imagined a long, fat straw with some kind of glasses tied on. Zosimus was not sure he would like to go swimming with those. It didn't seem all that reliable, but he nodded at her as well. He would take it for what it was. He liked to learn.

"No," he shook his head. "Eighty-eight?" The boy looked shocked as he held his arms open wide. "Is it really big?" he asked. The idea of keys playing music, like the key to a house-the only kind of key he knew- seemed like a very silly. He decided he had to have been wrong, that it was the same word used for something else. His idea just didn't make sense!

Daiyu thought there was no way she could explain a piano to the boy, but Jia already was working on it. She had her brown handbag along with her which was littered with books. Among them was the Pianist which had a perfect view of a piano, along with a set of hands displaying on how someone would play with the 'keys'. Good thing it was a display of the movie poster from the film made not all that long ago.

She showed it to the centaur and let him have a good look at it. “This is a wonderful book.” She sighed. “Sad too.” But it was time to get to the point. “But anyways. This is what a piano looks like. You see, the things under the mans fingers are what he presses to make the most beautiful noises in the world. Each key makes a different noise. Well, it’s not a noise.” Noise was an insult pretty much. “They are called notes. The notes you can either play one at a time per one of those keys..or you can play a few at a time. Creating quite beautiful music if you play it right.”

Taking the book from Jia carefully, Zosimus stared down at it while she explained. Then he nodded, still looking at the book. He could not read what any of the words on the cover said. Turning the novel over to look at the back before opening it, he shook his head just slightly. Zosimus could not read the insides or the back panel either. So he handed it back with a smile because now he at least knew what a piano was.

"Do you play?" he asked the ladies from where he sat contently. At the moment he was feeling very educated. These two may have talked a lot, some more than others, but he generally liked them and felt as though he could learn a thing or two. In the least, they brought up topics he didn't know rather than straight out teaching him something. Later, he decided, he wanted to ask the other centaurs if he could learn to play an instrument. Perhaps a piano would be difficult. Eighty-eight keys made it seem big and heavy. Maybe something smaller and movable was better. He'd have to ponder that for he knew instruments, just not this one.

"Is there a piano here?"

“Yeah we play.” Daiyu stated, tempted to say she was better than her sister but that would have caused a bit of fighting, she just knew it. “We have been playing since we were children. It is really fun. I tell you honestly, anyone can learn.” She promised. Jia somewhat knew Daiyu was thinking she was better by nature, but whatever..she could think what she wished.

Now when it came to where the was a piano, Daiyu frowned. “The wine bar has one.” She gave out a heavy sigh. “You are far too young to go there unfortunately. But perhaps during the day you could go there!” The older of the twins looked over to Jia. “I mean..if we are with him..I don’t see the big deal.”

Jia gave a bit of a nod and folded her arms. “I don’t see the problem as long as Zosimus wants to go. “ she ran a hand through her medium length hair. “Unless they will let us drag the thing out from where it is, which I highly doubt. If they did though, that would be quite nice. I’m surprised we don’t have another piano here.”

Oooh. Zosimus smiled at the two Asian ladies before him. This was very interesting and, oddly enough, he would have liked to learn. A lot of people here seemed to play an instrument. Maybe he could be one of them! How fun, he thought, Zosimus: the Piano Playing Centaur. Fires arrows between breaks. Not that his mind went this way because he doubted that it was a problem that occurred to the boy. He just didn't know of any of his herd playing a piano. They played other things.

Was a piano too human? That was a thought that did cross his mind. He, however, didn't voice it. Zosimus was such a simple boy now, though smart, that it didn't matter. He wanted to be accepted by everyone and like everyone.

"The Wine Bar?" he asked. Sims didn't know where or what that was. Though he was aware that wine was some kind of alcohol, or something, that a lot of people drank. Some of the herd did. They got kind of silly after a lot of it, but most of the time it was just a cup full at dinner. "Why would I go any other time than in the day? I sleep at night!"

It seemed fair enough for the centaur to go during the day. It was hardly populated. Daiyu knew this for a fact because she had come and gone at all times at the location. There were some pretty good musicians and sometimes she only heard them during the day perhaps too shy to perform to a small crowd yet. This would work, especially if Daiyu threatened to kick someone’s ass if they were unwilling to let Zosimus learn.

“Alright this sounds perfect. We can meet during the day. Perhaps..hmm.” Daiyu looked over to Jia who was only quiet because she was letting her sister be the one in charge, but then she piped up. “Well, maybe..two times a week? Then if you like it enough..you can practice more times as much as you would like!”

That sounded fair enough to the both of them. Wow, they actually agreed on something!

Smiling, Zosimus nodded. "I'd like that!" he said enthusiastically. His eyes glanced toward the sky and he gasped, an adorable and childish look of shock striking his face. Eyes wide and mouth open, he stared at the sun before blinking and looking back to his new lady friends. "Can we do this later? Like. . .in November? I have a lot of things to do before then!" He felt busy, though really his work was merely the last of the fall cleaning before winter set in. He'd be helping the other centaur's tidy up.

"I have to go! But thank you for the present! I'm sure she'll like it!" Sims held on to the elephant with care as he waved with his one free hand. He liked these women, and though he didn't want to leave, he realized he needed to be getting back. Zosimus had a strong sense of time, most days, and knew when Abraxius or the others would start to worry. He hadn't exactly told them all where he'd been going!

Shuffling on his hooves, the youngest centaur backed up before turning to head off back to the forest. "Bye bye!" He would see them again sometime, he was sure. Life seemed to work wonders like that. So with a gallop in his step, the boy ran off between the buildings and away from the crowd back in to the forests just South-East of here.
