Who: Irei and Aveira
When: later afternoon
Where: The Tiki Hut
What: Wandering and finding a place a little closer than the tavern in Helicharis to get a drink

Why was it always so far to get to the wine bar? Maybe if Sascha and he had decided to live closer to town he wouldn't be having his current problem. He made his way north of his bungalow with his hands in his pockets. He really needed a drink, but the wine tavern was a pretty far distance. Irei just didn't want to walk all the way into town, only to be told to leave at 9:30pm to make it home in time for the curfew. He was so used to being able to stay at bars until about 2am.

Irei kicked at the sand as he continued his slow trek. He wondered if that Tiki bar place where Zane and Amada's wedding reception had taken place was open. It probably was. Would it sell liquor or just fruity drinks? What the hell. He recalled hearing that the place belonged to that guy Loki, Mitsuko's boyfriend. Irei smiled to himself. That man seemed like he was amusing to say the least, and he could always ask for something mostly vodka like a lemon drop or even a beer if there wasn't anything else he liked.

The place was rather impressive for a structure made out of bamboo and umbrellas of dried palm leaves. The setting reminded Irei of some of the resorts one could find along the beach in Okinawa. Okinawa had been hot though. This place wasn't as cold as New York had been, but Irei still couldn't quite get used to it.

He stepped up to the bar, unwilling to take up a table where others were chatting, laughing, and nibbling on appetizers. He probably should eat something to go along with what he drank. He sat down on a stool and ordered a draft beer to start off with. He didn't particularly like the taste of most beer, but he never fooled himself to believe that taste was the reason why he drank.

The foam in his glass spilled over slightly as the bartender handed it to him. He drank and absently reached up to touched the puncture scars left over from the night at the wine bar with the disguised Hayate. Bad things seemed to happen lately when he got drunk. He smiled softly, shaking his head and wondered if he'd meet any other bloodsuckers here.

Aveira was in a mood she would classify as something she wasn't used to. Something boiled in her that was caught between discomfort and irritation that was more dangerous to others than herself. It began when she was at the Medical Pavilion getting blood so her headache would subside. All it took was a little bit of foul tasting blood to perk up her system. She guessed her irritation stemmed from how pathetic she felt puncturing her teeth in to some blood bag to get what she considered her 'fix'. She spent her walk making sure her clothing wasn't stained with crimson. Though her teeth were a giveaway one she spoke directly to a person, she still didn't favor parading around with blood spots.

She felt up for a drink but not enough to trek to the wine bar. When she noticed there was another location to at least get a drink to hopefully get the edge off, she waltzed to bar and sat at a stool quietly ordering a whiskey in a not to kind fashion. They had better prayed that they had the vice.

The vampire drew a finger across one of her brows and glanced towards the person beside her. It was then she noticed them touching their neck, two very unmistakable marks present. Shifting a bit she glanced back towards the bar and reached in her breast pocket to grab her cigarettes. Fuck, she was missing her lighter.

Speaking in a careful whisper mixed with a mumble from the cigarette in her mouth she asked the man beside her a favor. "You think you can spare me a lighter for a moment?"

Irei had noticed the woman as she sat down next to him. He glanced over at her and held the beer glass against his lower lip as his eyes discreetly raked over her body. She was hot, and from her body language, a little more than irritated.

He tipped back the glass letting the amber liquid slide down his throat before slipping his other hand into his pocket. He then deftly flipped opened the Zippo and flicked the lighter on with the single hand. He always carried his lighter with him now. He had to be careful of how much he used it thought. He only had so much butane, and he didn’t know when the next time they would send out a party to go collect supplies. Maybe he should try going with them next time.

A cigarette sounded like a good idea right now. He pulled out his crinkled pack. He really should just start rolling his own cigarettes like Sascha does (when not bumming them off of Irei). He pulled out a stick with his mouth and lit his own, after the woman was done. He sucked in the addictive nicotine and savored the tastes of it and alcohol combining on his tongue. He smiled at the woman next to him.

“You seem a little on edge. I do not know too many woman who can shoot straight whiskey.”

Aveira leaned in smoothly to light her much needed cigarette. The minute the cigarette was lit and she got her first rush of nicotine in her body; she let out a pleased sigh. She never realized how essential cigarettes were to her until she lit one. Already she at least felt a sliver calmer. Running a hand through her hair she actually took a moment to check out the man generous enough to light the fire for her cancer stick. The stranger was highly attractive and caused her brow to rise and she looked him over. Even the marks on his neck gave him some sort of appeal. That fact that he smoked was just as appealing.

The vampire felt somewhat guilty yet amused that she was obvious to others in her state of irritation. “I’m sorry about that.” She apologized, muffled through her cigarette. She parted ways with the cigarette as she continued to speak, blowing out a large fume of smoke. “I guess sometimes this place takes a toll on me. Don’t you ever get frustrated about this place?

She smirked when she noticed the marks on his neck. “Quite the look you have on your neck. Must have had one hell of an encounter.” She turned towards him crossing her legs. “I’m Aveira by the way.”

"Ah, I think I understand. I am more used to crowded cities. This place is so..hm, it is very slow compared to life before..everything." Irei missed the pace a metropolis would have. This place reminded him of his younger days when he would visit his great grandmother’s ryokan. The atmosphere was like that, except he wasn’t allowed to be lazy at the traditional hotel.

He rubbed the space between his neck and shoulder where Hayate had bitten him and chuckled softly. He lifted his hand off his neck and looked at it as if he might have been expecting to find bloodstains again. He smiled a little and shook his head as he muttered under his breath, "You have no idea.."

“You can call me Irei. It’s a pleasure to meet you Aveira-san.” He tilted the glass back and polished off the rest of his beer. “Do you come here often?” He leaned a bit forward and ordered another drink from the girl behind the bar. Something a bit harder this time. A bottle of brandy with a smaller was set in front of him. He poured himself some of the amber liquid into the glass and held the glass up to her. “Kanpai.” Then he downed the little shot.

Despite the way he touched his neck, Aveira probably guessed the time before that was well worth it. Usually people get bitten for a reason. Well, at least that’s how she viewed it. She was turned against her will and she was afraid to do everyday things. Even going out for a walk would spark fear that maybe someone knew she was a vampire, or maybe there was a vampire after her.

But here he was having a few drinks. Maybe he just met someone and paid an awful little price. If the person provided pleasure before the pain, who the hell cared? Needs needed to be met both ways. She met enough people to know that. There probably were enough vampires here with good looks to need to score and get blood.

She crossed her legs casually and answered his question. “I usually go to the wine bar. I guess when I first saw this place I thought it wouldn’t sell the hard stuff.” She took the drink Irei was about to consume. “But I was wrong.” She laughed a little as she tried to recite the same word her acquaintance stated. “Kan..pai” She downed the drink with ease breathing out a breathy sigh afterwards. She snapped her hands for another drink. “How about you? You come here, or is anyplace good for a nice drink?” She licked her lips, licking away the slight remnants of alcohol.

One thing he would never mention aloud, was that he had fully enjoyed the night with the vampire whom he now knew was Hayate, and he hated himself for even feeling it. He rubbed the edge of the empty shot glass. There was a hole inside of him, and he wondered if he could fill it with alcohol.

Nothing but a pathetic drunk.

It didn't matter. He'd drown out that voice soon enough. Unlike, or maybe exactly alike, most drunks, he needed it. He took the bottle and poured it into the glass. With all the twinkling lights and candles lit around the tiki bar, the amber liquid seemed to glow, like a treasure.

"Ah, I am normally at the wine bar as well, but since the curfew was set up, I have not been willing to walk all the way into Helicharis to only be allowed to drink until 9:30 and then walk home. If you could call that walking."

He smiled at her hesitation pronouncing the Japanese word. "Kanpai. It is the same as 'cheers' but roughly means empty glass." Irei turned in his stool so he was sitting with his back against the bar, and he leaned his thin frame backward. This place was actually very nice at night. "It is not bad here."

Aveira made a light "ahh" noise when she discovered the meaning of the foreign word. "I sure can drink to that." Aveira had to agree that she respected the Tiki Hut. Music played even if the place was close to deserted. It wasn't simply the piano at the wine bar, it had more 'life' to it. It made the place feel a bit more homely. "I agree it really isn't so bad here. Sometimes it just gets to me when I am in a bad mood. Everything just seems shitty you know?" Of course, drinks always made the feeling subside and she gladly took another shot of whiskey, only feeling a slight burn.

"How long have you been here? It's only been two weeks for me but it kind of makes you settle into here like you've been here forever. I'm talking to you but it already feels like we've met. May as well be that way if we're going to be here for the rest of our lives." Sadly for Aveira hat meant a very, very long time.

Aveira was a beautiful woman. Irei couldn't help but notice how all of her features seemed to be striking and incredibly alluring. His eyes were drawn to her mouth as she spoke and he could see, in bewteen her lips, the elongated teeth. So she was a vampire. He had assumed as much when she spoke of the scars on his body. She had known instantly what kind of creature had taken a bite out of him. In her case though, Irei could see how men would allow themselves to be captivated by her and even willingly allow her to drink them dry.

Despite feeling and knowing that, Irei didn't believe he would be in any danger from her, unless he was bleeding freely from a wound. She didn't have the air of a huntress about her in this moment while drinking with him. Irei smiled to himself. He probably wouldn't be that difficult of prey if previous actions meant anything.

"Hmm, that is a good question. It seems almost like forever. My friend and I have been here a little over half a year now." Those four months before August had been awful. The wars had continued on outside and there had been a lot of fear as to whether or not this place was really safe. Very few people were even willing to venture out of their new homes.

For a necromancer like Irei who had a rift between him and the dead opened so he was easy access to those who had died, those months had been a living nightmare. Sleep had been nearly impossible and he had nearly finished off all the sake he had brought with him, just to drown out the voices pleading with him. It wasn't all that easy being unstable and a necromancer.

Irei noted the sad tone in her voice as she spoke. "Ah well, then you might as well get as friendly as possible with your neighbors I suppose." He grinned a little at her and tried to lighten the mood, "That leaves little room for bad behavior, ne? It is too bad though, because you certainly look like someone any guy would want to be bad with." A little flirting wouldn't hurt, right?

Irei was someone who was highly refreshing. Sometimes Aveira would make jokes very similar to his and people would look at her like she was a very perverse person. What was so wrong about a little joking here and there about sexual matters? Flirting in the least was harmless. It just meant you enjoy your company and would prefer for them to stay and not go. Irei was that kind of company. The kind that she preferred to stay out with on the Tiki Hut compared to someone with no sense of humor and felt strange with come-ons. Harmless or not.

The vampire grinned at Irei’s statement. “You know, I think the boys fancy you the same way. ” There was a very light teasing tone in her voice. “ I bet you get both ways. Win-win right? I can’t imagine you behaving yourself in this haven. You don’t seem the type. If you like the vice of alcohol.” She looked towards his glass. “And good taste too. You must have a vice for sex.” She gave that a bit of thought. “Okay, that’s not always true. But in these cases and with a pretty face like yours. How could you not have sex. It’s not like we have anything else to do in the night hours..correct?”

Aveira was not one to be afraid to speak freely about things such as sex. She was more afraid to speak of herself, but not of candid things like bad behavior around the sanctuary. “You know. That’s right. We can’t limit ourselves to bad behavior here, can we? I don’t believe I see a tree or anything with laws. That is not to say I would break any of them. But it is a comfort to know I can be naughty and not feel bad about it.”

She tried to give off a harmless smirk. “So you know. You could bring anyone home and nothing would be thought of it. Meeting strangers is an everyday thing here.”

Irei just about fucking laughed out loud. That never happened in his case; he was a man who had learned to control his emotions. This woman could already tell, just from one vice, a few of his others. “Did you tell all of that from looking at me?” He grinned at her. Oh he already liked her. “Ah, I guess you could say I have had my share of men as well as women.” In fact it seemed lately all he could get were men (a drunken/drugged vampire and Sascha) interested in him. It probably didn’t help that he was getting thinner and not exactly the physique that a lot of women preferred.

“That is very true.” Irei had no qualms about sexual banter, especially if it led somewhere, like the bedroom. “There is no official rule book that I know of, but that certainly doesn’t stop the council from enforcing said rules.” Irei had spent a night in jail for that very reason. “Though I happen to think that no one should feel bad about being naughty, as long as two or more people gain pleasure from it.” He shrugged lightly and grinned back at her.

He liked this vampire. He wondered how long she had been inclined to drink the blood of humans. With Hayate, Irei could guess that it had been a very long time, and when from what he had understood after meeting Voe, she hadn’t been one very long since the time her ‘mother’ had changed her.

Irei winked at her smile and decided to continue to tease, even though what he was about to say held a kernel of truth. “If I were to bring someone home, my roommate would expect me to share.”

Aveira gave an apologetic look. “Sorry about that. It’s like a switch I can’t turn off. I used to be a hostage negotiator. “ she chuckled lowly. “Obviously, as far as I know..you aren’t hostile.” She gave him a playful look before she downed her drink. “But a key requirement was noticing things. It’s like taking educated guesses to a higher level. Luckily for me it is kind of a gift for other things. Also a curse too. Sometimes people think I am trying to act like a shrink..or I am not minding my own business, which isn’t the case.” She re-crossed her legs. “You’re a great looking guy and you just strike me as the type that isn’t going to just sulk around here and put it to waste, you know?”

She then gave a loud laugh when it came to the comment about Irei’s roommate. “He sounds like quite the guy. You can’t blame him for wanting to be in on the fun.” Her brow arched in genuine curiosity.

“I never knew how roommates worked here. Is he family? Did you meet along the way? Or was he a friend that came along with you during the journey?”
