Who: Lucretia [narrative]
When: Morning
Where: Medical Pavilion
What: An alarming discovery
There was a taunting chill in the examination room that Lucretia could not explain. Normally when a body was brought in, the body was barely put before her and she got to work. But when the body was revealed to her she stood there, motionless, shaking like she was in a freezer. The chills ran from the top of her head to her clad feet and with every passing moment the chills got worse. She swallowed hard and pulled away the cloth covering the body she was to examine.
This body was different. Though she had to examine the horrors of the dead faun and dealt with the heartache of Dr. Pryce up close, this was an actual murder of someone known in the community. All she knew was that his name was Simon Myles and he was murdered in the Wine bar, his body discovered in its bathroom. Until she examined him, her own opinions were just..opinions..
“Let’s get you checked out, yes?”
Lucretia had a bad habbit of searching the room for a tape recorder, or modern devices. The witch had been so attached to a tape recorder and new devices that she forgot she was back to basics. So instead, she got a pen and paper and began to start the process of the body’s examination.
The witch first began to examine the exterior of his body, noticing the bruises he gained during the struggle. He sustained a good amount of ‘superficial’ injuries as far as bruising and cuts. The man knew how to defend himself, the form of his body alone gave out that he knew how to take care of himself. His ribs were broken, the rigid design on his left side a tale-tell sign that when she examined inside she would find broken ribs. They weren’t severe enough to kill the man, but it was enough to cause him pain. Perhaps it harmed him enough to weaken him.
Then there was his neck, just by the look of it, the puncture wounds alone could have been the cause of death. Ever so gently she went to hold Simon’s neck..and that’s when her eyes shifted in surprise.
His neck was unable to shift into a straight position without the fragile noise of bones crunching. His neck was broken. However, the neck was a fragile thing both when dead or alive. Someone, something could have fed from him in his time of death and due to carelessness with his poor dead body, his neck could have been broken. Poor handling of the body postmortem on the way to the Examination room could have caused the dislocation of his neck as well. But there was only one way to find out.
“I’m sorry Simon.” She spoke softly. The only way to ease her suspicion was to cut Simon open and examine the area around his vertebrae and spinal cord. If there was swelling then his neck was broken before postmortem set in stating he was killed from the neck injury. The bites on the neck were either some sort of species finishing him off who involved in the crime, or a random species feeding off his body after the event.
Though eager to find answers, she cut into his body carefully. The witch began inspecting the neck and the spine and disregarding the ribs for the time being. When she finally had an open view of the neck and spinal chord her suspicions were proved correct. The neck injury was antemortem.
Simon Myles was killed because of a broken neck. Almost anyone could be a suspect.
