Who: Adair and Sanura [putting the paddles on the muses, oh yeah]
When: Late Night
Where: Adair/Sheldon/Caden residence
What: Sometimes, people just meet

“Ugh, winter is going to suck here I can tell.” Adair mumbled. He leaned in his doorway not particularly favoring the current weather conditions since all he had to warm him up was a cigarette and a lighter he kept playing with. He could have gone inside, but oddly enough he wasn’t like Sheldon and didn’t litter the house with a shitload of smoke. Sometimes it was hard having two roommates, but they were his best friends.

One of the things he hated was smoking his cigarettes until he could feel his fingers sting but no matter how many times he tried to break the habbit, he failed. Putting out his cigarette after one final drag, he went inside. It wasn’t long after when he heard a feverish amount of knocking. Shit that was quick. “Dude. I don’t have a lock. Just come on in.” Rolling his eyes at the person’s stupidity he repeated the obvious words of invitation. “The doors open.” Maybe one of his roomies were drunk again.

Sanura had been thinking and when her thoughts strayed to the point where they were deep and seemed to come alive, she would get lost. When she was lost with alive, vivid thoughts, she would get exhausted and careless. When exhausted it was only normal that in the night hours someone with a paranoid mind would hear whispers in the night and see shadows that were nothing but the movement of trees. She was cold, afraid and longed to be home and with her brother.

When a cold rush hit her back, she finally felt panic surge through her body and she began to sprint through the woods, figuring she was near her cottage. She was highly incorrect though she didn’t know it yet. She kept running, feeling her lungs tighten. Her knees felt like they were going to give in. Come on.. She thought to herself, thinking it was just a few cottages to her own.

Suddenly she felt a sharp sting spread across her foot and though she kept running at first, a few seconds later she fell to her stomach. Sanura didn’t understand the pain at first, but as she drew the pained foot towards her, she saw a large stick had plunged nearly all the way into her foot. She sat there for a moment and tried to dig it out, the first attempt drawing out a loud set of cursing.

She hobbled to one foot when she saw someone closing their door. She hobbled to their door and knocked furiously, wincing when she noticed she had a few other cuts and bruises. “Hey, hey open up!” Since she overheard it was okay to come in, she pushed the door open.

“Please. I just need to sit for a moment..” Sanura said softly, not wanting to alarm the man she didn’t know.

Adair turned all the way around when he heard a woman’s voice. The only women he had come to know well where Adrienne and Daiyu. Adrienne he had befriended and Daiyu was a gigantic bitch that would never speak in such a feminine tone. The Psychic just looked towards her dumbly for a moment tilting his head like he was incapable of aiding the woman towards a sitting place. A beautiful girl just storms inside of his residence slightly out of breath with a few cuts and bruises and asks for some help? Yes, this was the dream he had when he was about fifteen years old.

His eyes drew down to the pool of blood drawing around her foot and he went towards her and lightly touched her arm, letting his fingers wrap around her elbow as he guided her towards the sofa. “Yeah, yeah. Come on in and sit down.” He searched for where she was bleeding. “What the hell happened?”

When Adair saw the wood buried in her foot he looked away then looked back towards the stranger. “..That’s got to come out.” He shook his head. “It’s a little too cold out to be wearing sandals, yes?”

Sanura rubbed her arms and looked down in discomfort for a moment when she felt like she was being observed. Was it a mistake to have come to this residence? She turned towards the door, thinking about thanking the stranger for his time when he came towards her. Close contact with a guy she didn’t know was strange, so she almost backed away. However, his touch was gentle and comforting so she allowed the acquaintance to guide him to his couch. “Th-Thank you.” She looked towards the blood she left on the way. “I’ll clean that up.” She gave a sheepish look. “I promise.”

In regards to her foot, she bit her lip. “I know, I tend to forget how silly it is to think sandals are as strong as all other shoes.” She paused for a moment trying to flex her foot then gasped. “FUCK.” Her lips trembled for a moment and her eyes watered but she regained herself. “I got scared and figured I was okay enough to run. Then I stepped on this wonderful new addition to my foot. I thought I was close to home, turns out I think I am in the wrong set of cottages because I have never seen you before and believe me I like know everyoonnee where I live.”

She shifted in the sofa and smiled. “I’m Sanura.” She looked down at her foot. “And I’d like to know your name if you wanna help me get this thing out of my leg.” He seemed sweet; she’d hate to punch him in the face due to the pain. But she had to think of the now.

“Sanura..huh..nice name.” He took the name in then turned towards her with an arched brow. “I’m Adair. I’m no doctor so this is going to be the dumbest shite on our end. “ He winced as if he was in pain when he looked at the wound. He could see if anyone could aid him in trying to dislodge the nasty bugger. But she seemed eager to get the piece out of her foot. He could tell it was making her uncomfortable so he thought about what he saw on television. Boy that would take some thought. Television was a storyteller these days. If anyone had children here in Elysium, it would make for a good bedtime story.

He grabbed a pillow and put her foot on it, then jumped to his feet. “Okay. So I think the best course of action towards this is..” he turned towards the kitchen, then towards the poor young woman. “Whiskey or vodka?” He jogged towards the cupboards, thanking Sheldon for not only working at the bar, but for liking to steal and for liking to drink like a madman. There were enough bottles of alcohol of all sorts to get them through the next ice age. “Scotch perhaps? How about a cocktail of all this wonderful shit to take the edge off?”

He gathered an option of alcoholic substances Sanura could down to numb the pain at least a little before he went to go get some water and a cloth. Well two. One to deal with the aftermath and one was going to be a crappy ass bandage. Now that everything was on the table, he could kneel in front of her foot.

“Uhm..I guess this comes to you trusting a total stranger. We could always go see if anyone is at the medical pavilion. If not, start chugging and let me know when we start to do the horrid counting to three.”

When Sanura had learned his name she immediately spoke of it. That was because her patience was running thin. The pain was not only annoyingly evident, but the pressure was even worse. Not to mention she didn’t want to be given options on what alcoholic beverage might take away some of the pain on what was to come. “ADAIR!” She snapped. “You are hurting me just by talking. Give me the vodka, I’ll take it!” there was no need to yell. Well there was, it was making her feel better. But there was no need to yell in the sense that Adair was right in front of her, telling her to make friends with whatever she chose to drink.

Her hands were trembling as she reached to grab the vodka. Suddenly she didn’t know how eager she was anymore. “God, now I actually do miss rum.” She commented to herself before loading her throat with so much of the fiery substance she coughed some up. “Give me a second I can do this.” She took a breath a downed enough to make her head feel like it was separated from her body.

“Okay..” She spoke fearfully. “I’m ready.” But suddenly she piped up. “WAITWAITWAIT!!” She spoke slowly making sure she was clear, her head felt a little fuzzy. “You’re three or mine?”

Adair watched the irritated young woman drink the substance with an impressed hum. She may be feeling pretty good about it now, but she either would be puking in a little bit or tomorrow would be hell. Chances are she’d be staying here thanks to her incident and he would have to be the one to deal with it. He didn’t want his friends to know about this. He would have to sneak her out somehow.

When Sanura asked him how they would do the countdown to yanking out the piece of wood, he gave an annoyed sigh. “Oh for fucks sakes, Sanura.” Adair slipped out. He had been staring at her wound for long enough it was making him sick. Not to mention he was the one who would have to feverishly try and clean up the mess afterwards. He was some clean up crew for the wound of someone he didn’t even know. If this went well-That was it. He was working at the medical pavilion.

“My three okay?” He rubbed the back of his neck and made sure she was prepared.

Sanura tensed up she couldn’t help it. She was relaxed because she was way more than tipsy, yet she was tense because her mind was still wondering. Why did she run? Why was she afraid? Why this house? She had so many questions in her mind that was so dizzy and so scared. She was always so scared and sometimes it got her in stupid situations like this.

She grabbed the fabric of the couch with one hand and Adair’s shoulder with the other. When this was over she really hoped she didn’t puke or pass out. Sanura was building a higher pain tolerance so she had to give herself credit for that.

Suddenly her mind went into a sudden state of realization. The reason why she was always out, always running was..

Nevermind that..That’s right. She had to be counting...

Yes..Counting. One..Two..

Adair saw slight trouble in Sanura’s eyes and that almost halted him from what he was doing. But maybe the mixture of alcohol and personal trouble would lessen the pain of what he was about to do. He of course was going to pull the cheapest of tricks. Instead of pulling the wood out on three, it was on the second number when he would slide the painful looking object out of her foot. Sanura would probably hate him for it, but at least it would be done and over with.

“One..Two.” It was swift without any hesitation and right after he put the damp cloth over the mark the wooden object had left behind. When he saw crimson soak the cloth he frowned but quickly wrapped it around the injury to try and help with the bleeding. He used the second cloth to do the same only he knotted it securely to act as a bandage for the foot. “Okay, I know you totally hate my right now, but you have to stay still or your foot is going to feel like it’s exploding. You know do the whole breathing thing! Reellaxxx it’s allll over!”

He set the long piece of wood on the table to show it’s long, jagged shape. “You better get your foot checked out if it gets worse. Plus wow..it was really in there.”

Sanura was expecting the pain to come on the third count, so she told herself she was prepared but when the excruciating pain pointed itself out on the second count she probably screamed out like she was being murdered. “ADAIRFUCKITOHMYFUCKINGMOTHERFUCKER!!” She didn’t pass out, didn’t puke..didn’t even cry. Tears glittered in her eyes then they seemed to disappear.

After he bandaged her foot she punched him harshly in the shoulder. “IDIOT! RELAX!? If I say we do it on three, considering the circumstances, we do it on three! I would have rather expected it than had you fool me and ripped it out ahead of time! I was actually prepared to have that bloody thing ripped out!” She flicked the stick away from her. “And let’s just forget about that stupid stick.“ She was vaguely aware it sounded a bit drunk and messy when she spoke, but regardless. Adair needed to know how pissed off she was at his ’clever’ little act.

After that she folded her arms and there was nothing but uncomfortable silence.

Well Jesus. He didn't expect such words to come out of such a beautiful little mouth. In fact he tilted his head like he was inspected it. "Huhn.." He replied simply after her reaction. She had quite a nature to her given the shitty circumstances. He would have cried like a baby. Probably would have went on about how he thought his foot would be diseased and need to be amputated. But after her fit from his sudden act, she was ..quiet.

"You know. That was quite impressive. You didn't even cry." He complimented, getting up to toss away the 'stick of doom' as he would call it. "I sure know I would." He sat cross legged across from her and folded his arms, returning to silence for a moment. "Why were you out? Got a lot on your mind? Just needed some air? Out and about and lost track of time? It's okay if you didn't know why." He chuckled. "Happens to me all the time." He gave a careful teasing glance. "Not the stick thing. The going out randomly and not knowing why." He gave a causal shrug. "Maybe I just want to find someone to talk to who is wandering for the same reasons." Adair gave of a sigh. "We can deny it all we want. Gets lonely here you know? When people walk around for no reason in strange places dressed not exactly good for the weather, it kind of shows..more." He wasn't trying to judge her. "They get careless because they don't care if they get lost. Maybe someone will find them. Someone who can relate."

He picked at the fabric of his shirt. "Life sucks. Even more so here. Some people got to bring brothers, sisters, friends, boyfriends, husbands-whatever. But I think that gives off the false impression on who is classified as happy and who isn't." He smiled fondly. "Yeah, I have two awesome best friends. I wouldn't trade them for the world. But it sucks that in truth? In the back of my mind I'm telling myself that I would rather die than stay here for the rest of my life. I guess you are happy here...but you're not. It depends on the person."

Sanura was afraid she and Adair would be spending hours not speaking. They would be just sitting on the floor, trying to adapt the chilly air starting to circulate around them. When Adair spoke, she almost perked her head up joyfully but covered it up as just a sign that she was listening. He was curious as to why she was out? Was there always an answer to everything? Of course she was questioning her reason herself. She almost felt like they were on a similar level. Sanura seemed to sink into the floor the more he spoke, her expression almost defeated. “I..I just like..” She couldn’t really find an excuse. Adair was right. She walked aimlessly in hopes to find someone. She didn’t know for what, but part of her just felt..lost.

She smiled just a little. “You got that right. Life does suck.” She drew her fingers down the table nearby. “I have my brother here.” She set her hands in her lap. “He’s a wonderful person. But for some reason I still feel like nobody’s here.” Sanura felt guilty. Her and her brother got along despite a few arguments and she was delighted he was here. “I get tired of always pretending that I like it here. I get tired of always acting like I’m okay.” It was now when her eyes stung of tears, undeniable that they would eventually release. “I don’t want to be someone who breaks because this place isn’t home.” The therianthrope wiped away the tears that quickly fell down her cheeks. “But I did a long time ago. I’m just trying to make sure my brother doesn’t worry, I’m just trying to be in the moment remembering what happiness was.”

She drew out an exhausted breath, not expecting the events to take place today. “So, I guess when I walk aimlessly..I want to find someone who feels equally as crappy about everything as I do. Yet they are trying to not let it get to them. I think I also walk far into the woods and at night because I feel like I’m someone else.” She laughed, though her heart felt heavy. “It’s not as split personality as it sounds.”

Adair shook his head when she stated she had a split personality. “No. That isn’t so. Sometimes we just feel two different ways and we can’t help it you know?” Sanura seemed like she always tried to stay on the bright side, just like he did. It was a hard thing to do, hard thing to accomplish when sometimes he tended to others before himself. The two had a lot of similarities, but right now he wanted to make sure his new acquaintance was alright before he worried too much about his own feelings.

“Come on. You better get some rest. You will probably feel a bit of a hang over tomorrow you drank so much.” He couldn’t blame her, the whole ordeal must have hurt a great much. The after effect must have been a bit numbing, but must have still hurt all in the same.

The psychic made sure Sanura wrapped her arms around his neck and since the girl was so light he was able to carry her in his arms and take her up the stairs without it being a chore. He felt a blush to his cheeks when he caught sight of her real close. She was terribly pretty and he wondered if he could ever get a girl like that. Perhaps someday. Right now he needed to worry about getting her to bed safely.

He rested her in his bed and was thankful he did not wake up Caden or Sheldon. Moving a great deal away he slept on the other side and silently wished her goodnight. Funnily enough, that was probably the best nights sleep he had gotten in a long time.
