Sunday; Sept 30 2007
Who: Jia and OPEN
When: Morning
Where: Helicharis
What: Jia has a run in!

Jia let her pillow smack against the massive bump that was her sister sleeping still in bed. For thirty minutes she had been trying various techniques to try and get Daiyu to wake up. So far, all her sister was doing was making grunts of annoyance and was trying to slide away from her sister. Jia made a soft whining noise and gave Daiyu the hardest smack yet to be delivered. “Daiyu.” She whispered. There was a whine still in her voice. “I’m hungry. There is nothing to eat here.” Her sister made an angered noise when she actually woke from the hit. She sprung up and threw her sisters pillow in her face. “Then go get something yourself. You have feet!” Daiyu gave her sister a seething look, raising her lip before she turned away from her. Jia stood there for a moment, turning towards the door. “ But, I don’t know what to get.” Daiyu grunted, her voice muffled in her pillow when she spoke. “You have a brain. When you see food and your brain thinks it’s a wise choice, bingo.” Jia nodded, swallowing the want to ask Daiyu to do it instead.

She threw on a jacket and then headed towards the town with a pout on her face. Her hair mostly covered up the evident displeased nature in her face, but the slow stride in her walking proved she was in no hurry to head towards the town. Jia also was walking slowly because she had her eyes set in a book. Though she had read All the King’s Men many times, she was especially into the novel this day and eventually disregarded the fact that she was walking. This caused misfortune on her end when she bumped into someone. She dropped her book, feeling it slip from her fingers. Hastily, she bent down to get it not looking at who she bumped into. “I-I’m sorry.” She whispered, dusting her book off.

"All the King's Men, huh?" Dante hadn't made a move to reach for the book seeing that the other person was already bending down to get it. He eyed her curiously, wondering just what sort of person walked around with their nose in a book. By the tone of her voice, she was a shy person; someone who didn't do well in confrontational situations. Interesting, the lycanthrope thought as he leaned in slightly to take in her scent. He always learned interesting things about a person just by smell alone. It was one of the perks of being a werewolf, and from what he could tell this girl was not in a very good mood. "That's a good book," he said casually. Despite his unconventional hobbies, Dante was actually a very well-read individual.

Dante hadn't expected to do anything in particular on this day. He didn't have anyone to follow or torment. There was nobody in particular that he had a deep inclination to see, or do. He was completely free until this girl bumped into him. "I don't accept your apology," he said with a shit-eating grin that was obviously meant to be playful. The mask had no trouble being put on on short notice, and why not pull in another unsuspecting victim to play games with? At the very least it kept him entertained.

"I don't accept apologies from pretty girls who don't tell me their names," he added finally, the grin still present on his face. Dante hadn't seen her face, but that didn't stop him from putting on his charm. Women enjoyed flattery. They enjoyed being called 'pretty', and they enjoyed it when men noticed their beauty. Dante banked on all of these typical female qualities with this girl, and he waited to see her response.

Well a girl couldn’t be harmed by a guy who thought she was pretty, right? She wasn’t one for the conceited, but it was nice to be reminded that others still found her attractive. Especially if the other guy was cute. He was a bit intimidating, but everyone was intimidating to Jia. A small blush colored her cheeks and a smile formed on her lips. “It’s good to know someone else has good tastes in books.” She spoke shyly, a little stutter in her voice when she began to speak. It was always hard for her at first to engage in conversation.

She held her book close to her and glanced towards the ground when she spoke her name. “I-It’s Jia.” She was taught to have manners, so by nature she reached out her hand. “It’s nice to meet you. Sorry for bumping into you. When I read I guess I am equivalent to very clueless and clumsy.” That made her smile a bit but she was a little embarrassed at the fact.

If only all people thought the way Jia did, things would be so much easier for Dante. His flattering words were meant to lure people in, but with the constant paranoia of modern society flattery made people wary. Good thing Elysium was anything but modern, and most everyone here thought only the best of their fellow citizen.

Dante liked the shy demeanor of the girl in front of him. The soft blush of her cheeks drew the older man in, as did the curl of her lips. "I'm beginning to think that people in Elysium was all well-read," he said with a grin. Charming as ever he continued with his charade, trying to get into the girl's good graces. "Have you been to the library here? It's amazing!" So this girl liked books - at least now he found his bait.

"Jia is a beautiful name," he said with a chivalric bow. "But I wouldn't expect anything less for such a beautiful girl." He took a hold of Jia's hand when he looked up at her, and pressed a soft kiss on her knuckles. "I am Dante, m'lady, and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Chivalry was hard to find in modern men, and Dante had a feeling that this girl was the type who liked those sorts of actions. He rose to his full height again, and brushed away her apology with a wave of his hand. "No need to apologize. You'll never find me complaining if I get the chance to meet a pretty girl."

The thought of the library nearly could make Jia actually light up if at all possible. When she first arrived in Elysium all she was wrapped up in was misery and all she did was complain about being stuck in some decorated cage for the rest of her life. There were people here..there were things. She knew she had rude ignorance compared to her sister and she didn’t care. But the library? When she walked inside the library it made her feel calmer than she could ever imagine. All of her harsh words towards Elysium were forgotten.

She didn’t know how limited editions of books like Shakespeare or Edgar Alan Poe made it to the sanctuary but she didn’t care. She was out of her misery. It was nice to know someone else felt comforted by books. It made this place feel less like a hellhole and more like a place that harbored some comforts and hobbies. “Yes, I’ve been to the library.” She replied calmly but there was enthusiasm in her voice. “It’s wonderful isn’t it?”

The last of her words were more of a whisper when Dante kissed her knuckles. Dante was among her favorite names. It reminded her of Dante Alighieri, the man that spoke of hell so perfectly in the Divine Comedy. Only he wasn’t so handsome (so the drawings tell). “Dante? I must return the favor then in complimenting that Dante is a very handsome name for a very handsome man.”

It was very brave for Jia to tell a man of his looks, so it made her feel as if butterflies escaped from her stomach and were fluttering into her chest.

Dante could relate to the feeling of confinement, to being surrounding by invisible walls, or in this case being stuck in a decorated cage. Elysium felt like that for a long while - it was a prison that was done up to feel like 'home'. Except it was anything but; there was no freedom here for a man like Dante, and he felt those walls closing in on him everyday.

It was why he sought other means of entertainment, pretty things to occupy his mind and time. Without them, his 'hobbies' he would have gone crazy (or crazier) by now, and no one would have wanted that. Jia could have been another one of his hobbies; he could indulge himself in her shy mannerisms and that pretty little face. She was easy to please, easy to lure in, and while Dante normally liked a challenge he also didn't turn down a willing playmate.

"It is wonderful," he said in an alluring voice. "But I'm sure it would be more wonderful if I could spend time there with someone like you." He was laying it on thick, but he didn't care. If the girl fell for it, it made it all the easier in the long run. It amused him to no end when she actually returned his compliment, and called him handsome. A smirk twitched upon Dante's lips, but he hid it with a falsely shy smile.

"Naaaah," he said. He waved his hand in dismissal - girls were always suckers for the shy act. "Anyway, were you on your way there?" He made a pointed glance at her book. "Or headed elsewhere?"

Dante was a good man to Jia. What kind of man not only offers random conversation, but offers to escort you wherever you wish? Things like this were rare in her opinion. She was somewhat a recovering spoiled child who expected her life to now be constantly involving feuding with her sister and forced to do things on her own. But once again she had someone to aid her. Not that she was using Dante. She had used people in the past just for simple things like getting her items or running errands.

Jia was able to look at Dante, now thinking he was a safe man. He wasn’t arrogant to her compliments. “Where would you like to go? My sister wants me to go to town to get food. But I have a tendency to brush off whatever she says.” She sighed just lightly. “We don’t get along too well.” There was just a slight shrug to her shoulders. “Then again, I guess in these times it’s hard for people to always get along. But for us we never tolerated each other fully.”

She made a laughing noise, moving away from her and her sister’s differences. “Anyways, I’d like to go anywhere you were planning to go to?" She said in question. "Was the market good for you? I’d hate to drag you along. I know it can be boring.”

The only kind of man that waited on a girl the way Dante was, was the kind that wanted to get something for all of his efforts. Except it wasn't so much what Jia could give him directly, but what he could take from her. He wasn't interested in her for anything other than temporary entertainment. Not so much a fling, but something to occupy his growing unease. His fingers were beginning to itch, and the dark voice in the back of his head was starting to get louder every day.

"You have a sister?" A two for one deal, he said to himself. That could be interesting, but he left it at that. A bird in the hand was better than two in the bush, wasn't it? He wouldn't waste a perfectly good opportunity with Jia with the hopes of meeting the sister. "I bet she isn't as pretty as you," he said. The words spilled from his tongue so easily - it was an art form faking the gamut of human emotion and Dante was a master.

He hadn't planned on going anywhere. Not really. "Yeah, I was just headed to the market place. Food doesn't just magically appear, unfortunately." He chuckled softly. "You would think it would considering this place, right?" He bent his arm, forming a space big enough for Jia to slide her arm through. "Shall we, m'lady? Consider me your escort for the day."

It was lucky for Dante he didn’t drop anything. Daiyu was more intrusive when it came to trying to invade people’s personal business with her abilities when someone dropped an item, Jia tried her best not to. But if Dante dropped anything, Jia might see that Mr. Nice guy wasn’t all that nice. He was actually quite naughty. But being quite ignorant got in the way of her seeing in the truth in things anyways. However, not always

She took his arm with a chuckle and smirked. “I won’t make it boring. I heard there are wine bars and things to make time in the town more enjoyable.” Which raised a question as they made their way. “How long have you been here? Where did you come from? I know many of people have c come from anywhere from Japan to Scotland.” She watched her footsteps for a moment. “I’m a boring US citizen. Maryland and I’ve only been here for maybe two weeks.”

Oh the memories that Jia could see if she touched some of his older possessions. Souvenirs he kept from women he found intriguing, worthy of his attention. His past had not always been bright and sunny; there were dark moments intermixed with the light, enough of them that parts of his personality were covered in shadows. But Jia would not see the darkness today for Dante was not anything if not the perfect gentleman. Those who had to always conform to the norms of society were masters at putting on a serene mask for others.

"I doubt anything could be boring with such a beautiful lady," he teased as he held onto her arm gently. What a delicate butterfly to come and fly straight into his grasp? Would she have landed on a flower knowing it was a Venus Fly Trap? At least it was docile today, proving that luck was on the girl's side. Dante could enjoy a girl's company without any ulterior motives. "If you're boring, then I'm super boring. I'm originally from Virginia. Hicksville. At least Maryland sounds interesting, and it must be good to have such pretty girls."

Oh he was hamming it up for Jia, but the girl liked it. There was something satisfying about a girl's smile that calmed the beast within Dante's soul. "Did you want to go to the wine bar? I can't guarantee that I'll be a good boy if I get a few ales in me." He let out a laugh to show he was teasing, squeezing the girl's arm slightly. "Steer me wherever you want to go, Miss Jia. I am at your beck and call."

We can go to the wine bar if you would like." Because it would annoy her sister. Though her sister seemed to have wanted her to leave for a long period of time to get foods and other goods, she knew that her sister would be terribly irritated if she actually took a long time to fetch the items. That meant that perhaps her sister was getting a life in the sanctuary. It also helped that her company was a man that fed to her past bratty nature. It wasn't like she was the beauty queen of her old academy. But, she was well respected within her dance group. A man like Dante reminded her of that. He also reminded her that despite her height and her smaller features in areas like the bust, there was something else appealing about her. Maybe she should have been more careful to see what her 'appeal' was, but she was too busy eating up her current attention.

The psychometric squeezed Dante's hand in return and walked towards the town relieved when it finally was in view. "Your hand is nice and warm." She stated quietly. "It helps since the weather is getting colder." She slowed down her pace, realizing she was walking quite fast. Maybe because she was a little nervous since she was talking more openly towards a male. "Do you live here alone?" Sometimes that was a sensitive question to ask so she made sure to quickly make a follow up statement. "I mean..you don't have to answer that. Some people come here alone by choice. Some people have no family..or..you know...some people have lost family members."

Funny that she should mention the wine bar out of all the places to go. It was one of the few places that Dante frequented in town. He liked it because of the variety of people there, and because his distraction, Eliza, worked there as well. Dante wouldn't mind taking Jia there, feeding her a few drinks while he fed her ego all at the same time. He could see that she was enjoying the attention he gave to her, and that only made his job easier. "The wine bar it is," he said triumphantly as he steered her in the correct direction.

Her comment made him smirk, and Dante couldn't help but wish that all of his conquests were this easy to win over. The lycanthrope smiled at her, his toothy grin showing no signs of the malice and destruction that he could bring. "If cold hands mean a person has a warm heart, does warm hands mean that I have a cold heart?" Jia would no doubt answer 'no' even though it would have been more correct to say the opposite. Dante didn't have any real emotions; not the kind that were valued by society, at least. He only knew want and desire, or the occasional outburst of anger. But love, caring, kindness, and compassion? Those were foreign to the lycanthrope even though he could convince anyone otherwise.

"Yes, I'm here alone," he said, his voice tinged with what Jia would think was sadness. "I'm glad that I survived, but, sometimes it's hard, you know?" Dante sighed, his eyes gazing toward the sky. This was him playing the part of the lonely survivor, the one who put on a brave face though he was hurting inside. It was the man that needed someone to save him, and care for him, and with any luck the girl by his side would believe that she could be the one to do that for him.

Jia had forgotten about the saying ‘cold hands warm heart’ and she blushed in embarrassment. “No, not at all.” She actually gave him somewhat of a coy smile, brave enough to bump her frail shoulders against his much stronger ones. It was more like his upper arm since Dante was considerably taller than the psychometric was. “Do you think I would be holding your hand if I thought you were a danger?” She sensed nothing but a generous man. Who said ‘yes’ to every suggestion she offered? She obviously didn’t see him as a pushover, but she didn’t see him as a brute either.

Though Jia couldn’t sense out love or compassion, she sure could sense kindness. Dante could pull it off as easily as getting dressed. She wasn’t stupid enough to be unable to catch people in lies or not have her senses rise to suspicion. Dante was so good that she was strolling along ignorant that he was rather clever with his emotions.

Upon hearing Dante was alone in the sanctuary a frown appeared on her face and she moved closer to him, her strides slowing. “I’m sorry.” She said softly. “If there is anything I can do..” Her body faced towards Dante with a serious face. “Just let me know. I owe you one anyways.” Her hand slipped away from Dante’s as she spoke nervously. “Not that I am saying I pity you, it’s just lonely here. Even though I have a sister here, it is still lonely. So I can only imagine what it must be like to be here by yourself.”

Jia had no way of knowing that Dante's heart truly was cold, closed off to those around ever since he was a small child. Trauma had a way of shaping a young person's mind without intentionally doing so. His parents tried to help him, but the truth was that no amount of therapy sessions could have helped him or stopped the person he would become. Obsessive at times, violent at others, but he always always put on a mask to hide those unfavorable sides of himself. They weren't accepted by society. Besides, he could always catch more flies with honey.

Dante wasn't a pushover, but he knew how to make a girl feel comfortable and how to play to their more selfish natures. What girl didn't like to be doted upon like a princess? Dante sensed that Jia was that type of girl, and he didn't mind giving her what she thought she needed from him. It would have been safer for her to get away from him, but she held his hand tightly, and even flirted with him by bumping their shoulders together.

And now she was offering her help to the poor, lonely, lycanthrope. His mouth curled into a smile that was laced with slight sadness. He closed his eyes to hide the devious light in them, and only opened them when he was sure she wouldn't see the devil staring back at her. "At least you have your sister," he said so kindly. "But I wouldn't mind stealing your company from her every now and then." He reached for her hand again, and pulled her closer to him. "Can I do that?" His voice was coy, and it showed his interest in her. "Steal you, I mean." His words often held a double meaning to them, but he said them in a way that other's often interpreted as a joke. His playful smile sealed the deal, as did his chuckle, before he offered up his arm to her again to escort her to the wine bar.

Being away from her sister was fine with Jia. She was sure her sister wouldn’t mind Jia going out on her own and wouldn’t even notice if the younger of the two went out to see Dante once again. Once her older sister heard how nice he was on their accidental meeting she was sure her sister would pay no mind to how many times the two met up with each other. Daiyu was often occupied with the art shop, so it was god for Jia to part with her home and become familiar with the sanctuary.

So the stealing comment made her laugh and she looked over at Dante. “Anytime.” She assured in a tone that returned interest. Feeling comforted by her new acquaintance she walked close to him and took his arm as they entered the Wine Bar.
