Who: Aveira and Idehr
Where: the Blacksmith's and the Wine Bar
When: mid-evening
What: Idehr pays Aveira a visit. At night.

Idehr needed a smart shirt. Desperately. His wardrobe consisted almost entirely of T-shirts and hoodies and he had no good clothing with which to impress anyone, so there was nothing for it. He asked Malcolm if he could borrow a nice and crisp button-down shirt after dinner and retired to his room in order to change. Thankfully he still had deoderant and sprayed some on himself before wearing the shirt. Maddy wanted to know what he was up to, so he told her that he was going to see Aveira and she had a knowing little smile right until she had to go to bed. He'd deal with that later. At the moment, he had to buff his pair of black shoes (his only other pair, actually) and comb his hair.

He told himself that he was just going to pay her a visit. At night. After he'd given her a gift and she returned it with one of her own. That had to mean something, right? Or was she only being polite? She did say that she hoped to see him some time soon, metal or not (he memorized the letter - it marked the first, nicest note a woman ever sent him). A little confidence drifted his way and he left the forest cottage to head for the Blacksmith's. He hoped she would be there. There were many things that could go wrong and he'd never find her... but he hoped not.

Time flashed before his eyes and the door of the Blacksmith's appeared in the horizon. Ide wished that he had some of his father's orc bravery hiding away somewhere in the back of his mind. He knocked on the door and hoped one more time that she was in. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

Aveira had some sort of OCD with making sure that all of her creations were in the same formations she left them when she arrived at her shop. If an item was slightly out of place, she would remove the weapon from its place and make sure it was set back and placed perfectly to where it was before. If the whole shelf or area looked incorrect, she would scrap the entire thing and reshelf it. It had been a long day, so much of the creations were out of place thanks to her doing. This meant she was going to be there for awhile.

Her hair was a mess and she was dressed in lazy attire which consisted of ripped jeans and a white tank top. She knew she at least smelled good though she was a sweating mess. When she finished with her task, she was ready to finally go home and prevent herself from being seen. When she heard the knock, her head cocked back. Who could it be? She wasn’t frightened. She could take care of herself.

She opened the door to see Idehr dressed so well it made her blush. She looked so messy and careless and he was dressed so nice. Red spots appeared on her face, proving that it was blushing. “..Ide?” She finally was able to say weakly, feeling horribly unattractive. She tried to find something else to say but just managed a shy “Hi..”

Thankfully, the door opened to reveal Aveira, much to his relief and Ide managed to give her a small smile as a greeting before he actually spoke. He didn't care that her hair was messy or what she wore, because all that mattered that she was there in front of him. Her tank top and jeans were quite fetching on her although he imagined she looked good in anything. He averted his eyes for a moment because he was sure his gaze remained on her for a second more than it should have and struggled to find words. Being speechless right now was not a good idea.

"Hi," he managed to say. "I'm sorry if this is a bad time... if you're busy... I just stopped to visit you." He scratched the back of his head as awkwardness washed over him completely. "I should have written a note first, I know." The fear of rejection was ever growing and he had to just ask - "Would you go with me to the wine bar for a drink?" The words spilled out of him and now they were hanging over him like the Sword of Damocles. What had he done? Maybe he needed the earth to swallow him up at the moment so if she said no, it wouldn't matter. But yes, it would very much matter.

Ide was grateful no trees were around to mock him. He did not need any discouragement or insults now. An orc asking a vampire to go to a bar... There probably were stranger things in the world. His gaze slid to the ground before he could help it, the anxiety on his face apparent in the dim light from the street. As far as asking a woman out for the first time, it went a little better than expected. Ide had worried that he wouldn't be able to get a single sentence out, but apparently he did have a little bravery tucked in somewhere.

Aveira gave a dumfounded look. She didn’t want it to seem like a look of rejection, she just was surprised. That must have taken a lot of bravery, she could tell. She didn’t answer, only because she liked observing him, she liked trying to get into his head to see what he thought she would say. Her answer was yes, but by the look on his face did he think he came here in high fear of rejection?

The vampire could have looked worse, but she certainly needed to look better. Though she smelled fine she felt filthy and believed she had some more decent clothes in the back of the shop. “Let me just change okay? I feel like I don’t do your well dressed self justice.” She gave a smirk, a small wink attached. “That means yes.” She left the door open, tossing her dirty clothes off and ran towards the back room. Aveira was used to being around men so she was never discreet when undressing.

A few minutes later she was washed up of the small stains on her body and was dressed in dark pants and a nice dress shirt. “I thought I brought these back to my house. But I guess not. Who knew they would come to good use, yeah?” She closed the door to the shop and hooked her arm into his. “Shall we?”

The look of surprise on her face had to be a bad sign, Idehr just knew it. A wave of nervousness swept over him as he looked at her and tried not to seem as worried as he felt. No doubt he'd fail in that regard, though, and to his horror, he felt the illusion magic on his tusks slipping due to his anxiety. He inwardly cursed and turned his head for a moment to gather his nerves, making sure they were hidden from view. Turning back to her, Idehr listened to her speak. She was going to change? He had dressed nicely to make sure he'd make a good impression...

Ohwowshesaidyes. It was almost impossible to believe. No, make that very impossible. He nodded a little, too stunned to do much else, and quickly turned away as she left the door open. He didn't intend to spy on her change and so he waited, leaning on the wall with a fiercely beating heart. All the blood seemed to rush to his head as he was lost in the revelation that she agreed. Even if she didn't come back, Idehr could keep that moment fondly in his memory. Her footsteps sounded a little while later and he focused his gaze inside towards her heading out the building.

He knew that it was only a dress shirt and trousers, but she'd changed for him and earned herself a bit of ogling. The moment after Idehr let his gaze linger too long, he blinked as she stepped forward and hooked their arms. Once again, the situation was completely out of his depth and it took a few seconds for him to register that she actually said something to him. "They're lovely," he said and smiled at her. "Yeah... let's go." With that, he started to lead the way to the Wine Bar. There was a small crowd inside and his entrance did not cause more than a couple of glances towards the door. He was practically invisible!

That did wonders for his mood oddly enough and he picked a table towards the wall for the two of them. Idehr pulled out the chair and glanced at Aveira to indicate he was trying to be courteous for her. He hoped she appreciated it. "I'll go to order," he said. "What would you like?"

Idehr’s kindness was touching. When she sat down she asked him a question, not thinking about it. Questions always came without a thought when they truly meant something to Aveira. “What made you so kind? Are you this way by nature?” She looked up towards him with curious, soft eyes then towards the table. She felt intrusive asking so she drew her attention to indentations in the wood. Many people must have sat at this table. It was a fine wine bar considering the place they resided in. “You don’t have to answer. I just find it a really wonderful quality. Just don’t let others bring you down because of it.”

She smiled and patted his hand. “You don’t have to get the drinks. I can get them. You were kind enough to ask me on a…date..” Dare she say it? “I could go get them.” She drew herself away from her seat and stood behind Ide whispering in his ear. “I think it’s time someone was more kind to you.” She pulled out the chair where he was meant to sit and pushed his strong shoulders down lightly to try and encourage him to sit down. “Sit. Please.” She continued to whisper. “Now what can I get you”

Okay, he hadn't expected that question. Was she not used to people being nice or asking her out on dates? Suddenly, he felt self-conscious and resisted the urge to cross his arms over his stomach like he did occasionally when he was nervous. To answer her question... "I find it satisfying to help people, and you're interesting.. not to mention this is the first time I've asked a woman to have drinks with me, so..." He trailed off, unsure how to finish the sentence. "Aren't people nice to you?" It was suddenly very important he ask, because should he hear that anyone was rude to her, he'd have to watch out for them. Others might try to take advantage of him, but he had Malcolm to help and her too, he hoped.

It went against what his mother told him about being courteous to a lady - Aveira wasn't just any ordinary woman, though, so if she wanted to return the favor by getting drinks, that was all right. As soon as she started to whisper in his ear, warmth flooded his cheeks. He'd never been so close to anyone he found attractive until now. Such was the miracle of dates. Idehr complied with her request and sat on the chair, thinking of what drink he wanted. "Whiskey, please," he said and his cheeks remained warm.

This was sweet of her; he could hardly believe his luck. "Thank you," he said before she left, heart pounding faster in his chest. So far, so good. If he wasn't mistaken, conversation was key to when they were drinking and he searched for something to say. Perhaps Ide would just wing it. That seemed like a viable option.

Aveira was so glad that he answered her question. She was a person of the law and it was embedded in her brain that they always needed closure. When he answered her question, that’s exactly what she got. She smiled towards him. “Thank you.” When he asked her, she couldn’t help but to frown a bit. “They used to be kind.” Her frown went back to a smile when Ide had told her what he wanted to drink. “Whiskey hmm? That’s impressive.” Not that she though Ide couldn’t handle such a drink. “I’ll be right back.”

She went towards the bar and asked for two glasses with ice then asked for a bottle of whiskey. That way they wouldn’t be disturbed while they chatted with each other. It would be rather pesky to either have to always return to the bar or always have someone inquiring about another drink. It was easy for Aveira to hold the glasses between her fingertips and the whiskey in her free hand.

When she returned to Idehr she gladly poured him a nice amount then filled her own glass. “Now we can actually talk.” She said in a content tone.

Used to be kind? He disliked the sound of that, but restrained himself from saying anything before he accidentally put his foot into his mouth. With a nod and a slight smile, Ide waited for Aveira to go to the bar and fetch their drinks. She returned and earned a larger smile from him - and of course Ide had to stand up to pull out her chair for her. Consistancy was a good thing and he hoped that she wouldn't mind him doing it just one more time. If not, well, all she had to do was tell him and he would stop.

"Thank you," he said, just in case she didn't hear it the first time. A question finally popped into his mind and he considered it for a moment before speaking. "Have you always been a blacksmith? You know, also before the virus?" He couldn't exactly tell her that he had been a farmer's hand, could he? It was an unimpressive occupation, but Idehr had not thought of that when he ran away to Scotland. On one hand, it was nice befriending the animals and Edith, his elderly friend, but it hadn't been the smartest thing to do. "It's really impressive. Satisfying, making things with your hands, you know? I'm not really a professional carpenter. It's fun building all different sorts of things."

He smiled shyly. "I liked carving the ornament for you. Wasn't sure if you really liked flowers or not." It was always possible that she wasn't a fan of them, after all. There was something different about crafting an item for a friend. Just that much nicer. "And I wanted to thank you in person for your gift. It's beautiful." He doubted that he could ever thank her enough for making him something like that and he knew that it was one of his favorite items already. "You really didn't have to give me anything in return." Could she tell he was more than a little flattered?

Aveira grinned when she thought of what she used to do. It was one of those things where one could claim it as ‘felt just like yesterday’. It wasn’t a far cry. She hadn’t been in Elysium for all to long. “I was sort of a blacksmith when I was young. You see, I liked to make guns and all. So sometimes I would customize guns doing things like adding flame throwers to them.” She laughed a bit. “Otherwise I would make knives and things, so I guess since I was about fifteen I began to work on knives as well but since I was thirteen along with cars I worked with guns and all.”

She drank a shot of whiskey when she thought of her most recent job. “My true passion was working as a hostage negotiator. You know..I guess at first I wanted to be in the FBI when I was young because I thought it looked cool. I hated how guys always looked like the saviors. So I went in and I really liked being the people who didn’t always use the guns. Sometimes our voices and dedication to the people who were misunderstood were the weapons.” She looked down shyly at the table. “Sorry..though my job got me these set of teeth..I loved it.”

The vampire gave an impressed, fond glance towards Ide. “I think your work is wonderful. If you can make something like my gift so quickly, I wonder what you make as far as larger sculptures. I really do enjoy your work.” She complimented. “And I am flattered you like my work in return.” She tried to hide her extreme flattery but she was sure it was as clear as day.

She liked to make guns. Ide looked at her in fascination as she talked a little about her past. He didn't like guns in general, but that was besides the point. She was creating interesting things at a young age and he liked her even more because of it. "Guns and flamethrowers, huh," he said. "Unusual idea. Very cool." No wonder she'd continued to be a blacksmith in Elysium. He wished he did something like that when he was younger and knew that he was hardly as fascinating in comparison.

Ide took a moment to imagine Aveira as a hostage negotiator and decided that he liked the picture very much. If he remembered correctly, the FBI were some sort of American police. He listened to her speak, intrigued. "The weapon of voice can often bring about more honor than a blade," he quoted an Orcish saying before he could help it. "Sorry, you reminded me of something my mother said once. That's brill, though. I'm sure you were very good at it." How could Aveira not be good as a hostage negotiator? The thought was impossible. It was only when she mentioned her fangs that curiosity got the better of him. "Did someone attack and bite you? Are you happy with... the way things are now? I'd rather be human." He realized that his questions were quite personal, probably too personal for an occasion like this. "Sorry, you don't have to answer that."

"Thank you. I don't carve people very well. It's difficult to have enough detail on a small carving and I'm not sure I should waste the wood on a larger sculpture," Ide said. "You know, if we need the firewood and things. But I'd carve you." His cheeks warmed a little, but he managed to continue. "Maybe you could have a carving of yourself in the front of the shop, with a hand open enough so it can hold and show off one of your weapons. Like a mannequin, but better." Much prettier, for starters. "Your work is fantastic. I still can't believe you made something for me."

He paused for a moment to down a fourth of his glass after he gave her a grateful look. "Have you ever made throwing stars or a flail? It'd be brill to try either of them out," he said. "I just know some Orc hand-to-hand combat. Not that I use it." He definitely wasn't the type to go around punching people on a whim.

Aveira couldn't help but laugh about Ide's comment regarding his mother. "It's always good to keep our family's words in mind. They always come in handy and stay close to us. Especially in times like these. I don't know what I would do if I forgot some of the wise words of my step father and mother. They had given me so much in life." She gave a comforting smile before she began to play with the ice in her glass, watching the shape of the cubes disfigure and slowly melt. She evaded Ide's question about her life now as a vampire only for a moment.

Aveira thought of a structure of herself and chuckled. "Hmm..you'd do an excellent job. But I'm not sure if I could stand looking at myself." She gave him a playful smile. "She may look prettier. The only diffrence would be she would give splinters." The vampire did recall making throwing stars. "I have made throwing stars out of metal. I have yet to try other means." She shifted a bit in her seat. "You should try throwing some. I could make you some."

She stopped talking for several seconds then finally answered his previous question. "About what you asked before..." Her eyes seemed slightly saddened. "As a hostage negotiator we were told from the moment we started that our lives were considered a second priority when lives were at risk. The day I was bitten there were several hostages at risk and the asshole who bit me was still in there." She tried to calm the anger in her voice. "I have a tendency to fling myself into a situation when I want to catch someone. The guy came out of nowhere and bit me.." She poured herself another glass and drank it easily. "So..I have to adjust to the new set of cards that were dealt to me because I asked for it."

"Yeah, it is," he agreed. "Mementos are good, but they fall apart." Memories were more important and had to be treasured, especially as Idehr was to go the rest of his long life without his parents. That train of thought carried him away for a few moments before he remembered to nod at her statement. "Sounds like you got on with them well." She said nothing about her past and he worried that he asked something wrong. He stared at his drink for a moment before he raised his gaze to see her moving the ice cubes in her glass. Maybe it was best if he apologized for it soon.

Ide looked at her, suddenly guilty that he'd made her uncomfortable. "If you don't like the idea, that's fine - I won't do it." Did she think she wasn't pretty or beautiful? Either way, he had to reassure her that wasn't the case. "You're more gorgeous than any sculpture I can make." He hardly had that much talent although he was glad she thought he'd do a good job. The possibility of him being able to use throwing stars was incredibly tempting and his serious expression disappeared into a grin. "That'd be fantastic! If you make some, we have to try them out, yeah? Improve our aim." He gestured throwing them, like a frisbee, though he had no idea how to throw them properly.

His hand curled up into a fist as he heard that some bloke had just attacked and bit her, and she wasn't able to stop it. The fact that she was bitten just like that irritated and saddened him - he wanted to bash in that man's face. "I hope you caught him in the end," he said and suddenly covered her hand with his larger green one. "Because bastards like that don't deserve to walk around freely." His grasp on her hand tightened a fraction. "You couldn't have known that would happen to you. You did what you were supposed to. Life threw crap at you, and..." He glanced at the table, embarrassed, and let go of her hand. "I'm going on. I guess it just struck a little close to home."

Aveira looked down sadly when Ide perhaps thought she didn't want him to make a sculpture. Her face quickly turned into a shy, but flattered smile as he complimented her so kindly. "I don't understand how you haven't found anyone yet. I have never met anyone so kind before." She told him with all her honestly. "I've met people who are so-called flawless and are the biggest assholes in the entire world..Every women wants to be with them..yet because of their personality I see them as rotting corpses." Aveira was kind of stumbling with her words because she was so shy in explaining. "I don't ever think of you as green, or think of your species. I don't think of anything. You're actually the nicest person I've met besides my mother and step father." She drew soft lines down her glass. "I think you're a wonderful person both for your looks and who you are."

She guessed it was fair to explain why she never really saw herself as beautiful. "I was a tomboy you see and always around men. Beautiful and all never was mentioned. I met one guy..but he's probably dead for all I know."

If the vampire's hand could warm it would have when Idehr touched it. His anger towards what happened to her was moving and when he drew his hand away she slid over the table to put her hand over his with a saddened face. "Who could ever hurt you?" She wondered out loud. "What happened?" She looked towards his hand. "You don't have to tell me...I just..well...If anyone was cruel to you..I could kill them." She gave a smile, though she was genuinely curious and concerned to know if Ide was just as bothered by his past as she was. Even though life seemed to begin all over again in Elysium, wounds were always still open.

He disliked seeing her disappointed like that and another little twist of guilt hit his stomach. It took a moment before he realized what she said, wondering if she meant why he hadn't found a girlfriend yet. "I haven't really talked to very many people, I guess," was his explanation. "Flawless looks, yeah?" He saw a few attractive people in his life, but he hadn't known them well enough. Aveira seemed to be different from the old phrase 'beauty is skin deep,' for which Ide was grateful. "I've met people like that. And a couple people who weren't even good looking, but still arses."

Her words were definitely wonderful and if he had the ability to liquefy himself, he'd already be a happily bashful puddle on the floor. "Thank you," he said quietly, though his cheeks burned. It was odd, because he was not the nicest person in the world or anything. And then she gave him the best, most fantastic compliment anyone had ever said to him, and his heart skipped a beat. "No one's ever said anything that nice to me before," Idehr remarked, his gaze on her intense - he was much too touched to smile, though he should have considering the circumstances. "Thank you." She earned herself a couple of presents and then some for that.

The tomboy explanation made sense and he wondered what the guy who had complimented her was like. "Maybe he's not," he said. Normally he might not have been so positive, but he wanted to reassure her. "You never know, he could come here and sweep you off your feet." Or maybe Ide could do it instead. His gaze softened at her.

He hesitated when she asked about what had happened to him in the past - it was one of the very lowest moments in his life and he wasn't sure it was something he could tell her just yet. "I'd rather not say now. Don't want to depress you," he said and flipped his hand so their palms touched, wrapping his fingers around her hand to give it a squeeze. "They should still be in England, if the virus didn't get them." He hoped it did. It wasn't a statement he wanted to say to her. "I wouldn't want you to get into trouble or hurt anyone because of me, all right?" Ide raised her glass slightly to her.

Aveira looked down for a moment, but looked at Idehr carefully. “I know you are afraid of depressing me. But just to tell you. If…if you ever feel like talking to me about what happened….you don’t have to be afraid. I want to help you realize that whoever hurt you probably got what they deserved and they are the horrible person, not you.” The vampire reassured. “I know sometimes I blame myself for things I know wasn't be my fault. “ She knew she could be a cruel hearted person. “I sure hope they got the virus and it wasn’t a quick death. I believe people should get what they deserve. Some people didn’t die to kindly from the virus. Others died fairly quickly. I’m hoping the virus paid them a very unkind visit.”

The vampire gave a grin in Ide’s direction. “Look at me. I’m a big girl, I can take care of myself. “ Her grinned only stretched as she tried to lighten the situation. “Teeth and all.” She chuckled lightly and raised her glass slightly as well. “Are we toasting or something, or do you wanna race me in a shot of whiskey? I have to warn you, I’m a pretty good straight shooter. High tolerance too.” Aveira told him playfully.

He smiled, but it only remained for a few moments. Depressing talk was dangerous and he didn't want to seem weak to her if he explained that he'd been attacked. (He might have been fifteen, but the truth remained. "I appreciate it, really," he said. "I haven't really talked about what happened to anyone so... so it might take a while." Ide blinked at the sudden support of Aveira wishing harm on his attackers; it was hardly a nice thing to say, but it meant the world to him. "Thanks. I hope so too." These words were said more quietly and his gaze shifted to look at the wall behind her for a moment.

Had he sounded patronizing? "I didn't mean to say that you couldn't... I guess I meant that I'm looking out for you or something?" Maybe it was best to move on from that topic of conversation and he smiled a little at her question. "I want to toast meeting you. It's been quite fun so far." And the sparkle in his eyes told her that really was the case.
