Who: Kaiya and Sheldon
When: Late Afternoon
Where: Library, near one of the big windows
What: Not sure yet, will edit later!

Kaiya had been in good spirits lately. She had been growing more confident in herself, and the hope that she could have some happiness in her life. But also, she was beginning to feel like she belonged here in Elysium. Was it such a bad thing to think that the virus was actually a good thing? If it weren't for PV Kaiya would have never known of Elysium or the happiness that came with the haven. She never would have met Faye or Irei, both of whom have become her dearest friends. But she also would have never met Hayate, and she was growing to adore him more each time she saw him.

But that was far from her mind as she sat in the quiet of the library with English books sprawled out in front of her. She was determined to learn how to speak the language that most of the people in the haven spoke. She wanted to make more friends, wanted to meet more people and learn more things. This was the turning over of a new leaf for the fae, and she wanted to make the most of it.

The ebony-haired praeternatural read the words in the children's book slowly. The Japanese-English dictionary was opened nearby so that she could look up words that she did not understand, or know how to pronounce. What was it that Faye had taught her? To 'sound out' each of the letters in the word. In many ways it was like hiragana - a phonetic sound for each letter of the alphabet. She could learn how to do that easily, right? Kaiya wished that she had someone nearby to help her, but she was alone today. Perhaps tomorrow Faye would join her. For now, the Japanese fae was determined to finish the book in front of her, The Cat in the Hat. Was it foolish of her to read a children's book? Hopefully not, especially since it seemed entertaining.

"Theeeee... Essss..." she was elongating the 's' sound while trying to combine it with the 'u' and 'n' that followed it. "Youuuu... Ennnn..." She rubbed her head. "Esss-Youuu-Ennn... Sooo-Ennn... Sooo-Ennn." Kaiya wrinkled her nose and sighed, pulling her dictionary close to her to look up the definition of the word. It wasn't until she had seen what it was in Japanese did she know what the word was in English.

"Sun!" She said excitedly, her face erupting in a smile. "Theee... Sunnnn...." She continued, wanting nothing more than to finish reading her book.

Sheldon usually wasn’t one to be courteous around others. Usually he passed others without apology if he bumped into them. He smoked around a party of people without asking them if it affected them. However, in a place such as the library he seemed like a different person. He would barely acknowledge anyone unless eye contact was made, he made sure he was quiet and he was smart enough not to smoke indoors.

The door only made a soft sound behind him as Sheldon entered the library which seemed to be fairly vacant. He couldn’t say he didn’t like it like this. He could choose a book that sparked his interest and then could sit where he pleased without being interrupted. However, it was a perfect place to read in peace so it was very difficult to believe that there could be no one seeking something to read just as he was.

Elysium grew depressing at times for Sheldon without pieces of his home and he was very surprised to learn that the library held many books on Scottish Folklore, so he admitted it to himself it was a comfort to read. Kind of like a piece of home frozen in time. He knew the section so well he decided to just put the book he had securely in his hands back in its place and take the book right next to it.

As he crouched down to replace the book, he heard a voice. He peeked through the open slot where the book belonged to see a young woman reading by the window. The somewhat fading sun was casting down on her and through the open slot. He continued to listen to her putting the book in its place and took the other book. He couldn’t help but to hear that she seemed to be struggling with the words she spoke. As he curiously walked around the aisle it became clear that English was not her first language.

Sheldon continued to listen curiously, but when he actually came into eye sight with her and saw her wings he dropped his book. She was so pretty. But the wings, he'd never seen such a thing!

“Shite!” He whispered harshly. “I’m sorry. Aye Just noticed you seemed ta be'y tryin’ to learn English.” He was somewhat (more like very) still fascinated yet embarrassed all in the same. He tried to use apologetic hand guestures to accent that he was sorry for seeming like he was snooping the entire time.

The fae had sometimes picked up books on Japan, watching the images pass by as she flipped through the pages. It reminded her of home, and a part of her still missed the Japanese countryside. She didn't miss her past there, or the things that happened to her, but she did miss the country. Sometimes she missed her family, or the people who said they were her family. There were times that Kaiya hoped that she might someday meet her real parents. Perhaps they had come to Elysium, and they could be reunited at last. Kaiya couldn't say that she hadn't thought about these things, but today they were far from her mind as she focused on learned her second language.

Kaiya jumped at the sound of the book hitting the floor. She might have gasped a little at being startled, but mostly she just stared at the stranger that had stumbled upon her. The fae eyed him curiously, wings fluttering back and forth behind her scattering small sprinklings of her dust all around. She blinked at him, and listened to him speak in what seemed to be an apology. Kaiya managed to pick up a word or two from his utterances, and the word 'sorry' definitely meant he was apologizing; but other than that she was just confused.

It was then that she noticed that his book was still on the ground, and she moved to pick it up for him. Kaiya knelt down gracefully, and rose slowly with her eyes trained on the cover. There was a picture of a beautiful, green countryside, and some words beneath it that she could not read. Kaiya blinked up at him, hand outstretched to give him the book. She smiled softly, and parted her lips to speak. "Ano..." she began, so unsure of herself. "Your..." Kaiya spoke slowly as she tried to remember the words she needed. "Book? Yes?"

Sheldon’s eyes followed the young woman. Not in an inappropriate matter, but just in a curious way of observation. The stranger was so..gentle with every movement. Not even by intention it seemed. He knew he should have perhaps dashed to help her pick up the book like a gentleman, but he was too busy staring at the wings which actually sprinkled out...fairy dust? No, no fairies were smaller weren’t they? Of course he was only aware of fairies through the tales and legends that even rest in the very book he was about to take home.

He was even somewhat foolish enough to try and snatch a small freckle of dust in his hand. When she began to talk to him he cleared his throat and slid his now book occupied hands behind his back. Sheldon listened to her closely. Japanese, he was sure of it. The only reason why he knew this was though he and an…encounter once upon a time..barely spoke, she said enough for him to make an educated guess. It wasn’t like it was hard to tell that the rather attractive young female was Asian. There was something about her that made her attractive. It wasn’t just the wings, perhaps it was the insecurity that drew him towards wanting to speak with her even if he wasn’t trying to take advantage of that quality. Of course he didn’t know much about her besides that she might find it strange that he was simply staring at her and not speaking.

“Aye, book.” He nodded his head and then brought the book occupied arm up from behind his back. “Thank you.” He didn’t speak for a few moments, unsure of what to say to someone who knew little English but was at least learning. He made ways around her and towards the desk. He didn’t want to seem like he was being nosey but he saw The Cat in the Hat and smiled fondly.

“Favorite. Book. As. A. Child.” He knew he might be even harder to understand with an accent. Even people who were American had a hard time understanding him in cases when he perhaps was angry because his accent tended to get a bit messy.

He then felt bad all of a sudden like that meant children didn’t read it now. “But. I…Uhm..still..read it now.” He laughed and just resorted to pointing at the book, then giving a thumbs up.

Kaiya blinked up at Sheldon and smiled. While she couldn't read English very well at all, she was becoming better at understanding it and speaking it. Still, it helped the Sheldon spoke slowly. It made it easier to translate the words in her head and understand them. She noticed that he was watching her closely, and such attention made the fae blush a deep shade of pink. Her wings moved a bit more, sending more of her dust around the small area.

"Uh... yes. Good... book..." she paused and then pointed to the children's book on the table. "Very very... ano..." She chewed on her lower lip and tried to think of the word for funny in English, but it was escaping her. Her finger tapped along her chin and she looked up at Sheldon and spoke. "Kokkei dearu..." she said with her brow furrowed. She huffed out loud, not at Sheldon since he hadn't done anything to her, but at herself since not remember the word was frustrating. And though her dictionary was close-by, she didn't reach for it out of stubbornness.

"Very very..." she continued and then blushed. "Hahaha." Laughing, or pretending to laugh, was the only way she could think of to relay what she meant. She sighed, head shaking to show her disappointment. "I am sorry," she said clearly. Apparently, she knew this phrase very well. "I am learning to speaking English." Kaiya glanced at her book and grinned ruefully. "Read is... very... difficult."

Kokkei dearu - to be funny (basically it's the word for funny)

Sheldon laughed slightly then suddenly made a hand motion like he was telling her to stop. He was trying to tell her to stay put. He wasn’t trying to tell her what to do, he just met her and though he could be cruel at times he wasn’t one to boss around. The only reason why he did it in such a firm matter was because an idea struck him so fast he did the first thing that came to mind. He ran a hand through his hair before he spoke slowly. “Stay here, alright?” His eyes insisted before he dashed down the aisles of the library.

“Okay..Okay uhm..”

He wasn’t in the right aisle, now was not the time to learn how to cook Japanese food, though he might be close to what he was looking for. He ran towards another aisle, shoes making a loud skidding nose when he suddenly stopped. “Well, shite. There are tons of ya!” He was slightly out of breath since the library was big and he ran faster than he intended. He didn’t want her to wait all that long though.

The Scot took a long breath before he drew about five Japanese to English dictionaries into his hands. He returned to Kaiya, setting them all down near her books then looked up towards her with a sheepish smile. He pointed up a finger as he looked through the pages feverishly to find what he was looking for. Why not educate each other? It may be a little easier for them to communicate as well. Though he might cause a bit of butchering towards Japanese, the best he could do was try. Plus, he could also make her laugh and show her he was harmless.

“AH!” he scanned the words as he read them with his index finger. "W-atas-hi no nam-ae wa, Sheldon.” He arched his brow after he stated his name in her foreign tongue then laughed. “Oh god, that was horrible.”

The stranger was waving his hands this way and that, and Kaiya thought that he was telling her to stop speaking. She bit her tongue, and looked at him curiously. What exactly was he trying to say to her if he wasn't telling her to stop? It wasn't until he had spoken did she understand (somewhat) what he was saying. She smiled slightly, and nodded her head. She would stay there if that was what he asked.

His actions were strange, though, considering that they were in a library. He ran from her quickly, toward a different section of the library. Kaiya rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet, waiting for the man to return. Would it have been all right for her to sit down? She understood that he asked her to stay, but he didn't mean stay standing up, did he? Afraid to bring disappointment to the stranger, Kaiya remained in the same spot. The fae glanced over at her table, wanting to get back to her reading when the stranger returned. He had come back with many books, most of which dealt with Japanese to English translation.

A soft smile crossed her face, and she watched him curiously as he flipped through the book. He began to speak something odd until she realized it was Japanese. He was introducing himself, and he did so in her native tongue. The gesture was so sweet that she couldn't help but feel touched, and her smile grew wider. "Ha-ji-me-ma-shi-te," she said slowly in reply, giving him time to look up the phrase. She had bowed her head as well to greet him, standing upright only to see his reaction. She placed a hand on her chest and patted herself a couple of times.

"Kaiya-desu... Watashi no namae wa, Kaiya." She beamed up at Sheldon and then decided to attempt introducing herself in English as well. "My name is Kaiya."

Sheldon smirked and fully turned to her with a grin when he found what she said. It took a lesson 3 book in order to find it. “Nice to meet you too, Kaiya” He replied slowly. “Kaiya is..uhm..” He searched an easier book to find the answer to what he was trying to say. “Utsukushii?.” He smiled in assurance. “Utsukusii indeed.” He was sure non natives made funny faces when they said their U’s. He could just see himself making some sort of fish face of some sort. “If you don’t know it in English..It means beautiful.” He repeated the phrase in English. “Kaiya is beautiful.” He made a small noise in his throat. “Of course the name isn’t bad either.” She seemed so shy. He wondered who she knew here in this sanctuary.

He was sure she had a lot of friends, just ones who spoke her native language. It must have been intimidating only when among the many English speaking people. Especially men. Disregarding the thought for the time being, he moved to where she was once sitting and flipped through the pages. “Suwaru?” Yes, that was right for take a seat! He wasn’t doing so bad! “Better than standin’, yes?”

He encouraged her by already sitting in the seat across from her, smiling at the book she was reading. “Maybe I can be of some help? He pointed to himself, while looking up ‘help’ in Japanese. “Tasuke?” with your English?” of course when he was a kid, he would teach people swear words first, but this wasn’t the case. He genuinely would help Kaiya anytime she would ask for it.

It was in Kaiya's nature to be subdued. When a person spent their entire life being oppressed it was hard to be anything but. But Elysium was spurring a change in the fae, one that had her smiling and laughing more. She still had moments of shyness, especially when a person was extremely nice to her, but they were few and far between. That was her own fault really, choosing only to be around people she knew well. But this was new, and exciting, and she was enjoying Sheldon's company.

She blushed deeply at his compliment, and waved a hand in front of her face to indicate that she really wasn't beautiful. Thankfully, he had asked her to sit down so she didn't have much time to be bashful. Kaiya took a seat and pulled her book toward herself. She hadn't expected Sheldon to sit down with her, and when he did she blushed further. Sheldon offered her some help, and Kaiya wasn't sure what to say. The fae was quiet at first, looking away from the kind stranger before her head nodded in agreement.

"Yes," she said with a smile. "Ariga- er... thank you."

Sheldon seemed to light up a little, somewhat of a blush coming to his face. He was a little surprised since that never happened to him. He turned slightly in her direction to take a look at the dictionary she had. He always liked the gold letters somewhat shimmering on the basic language learning books. He skimmed his hands across the cover while he thought of something she could learn to say. The world around here though smaller was still full of people you could accidentally run into, may have to apologize to and even may want to compliment. Of course, he wouldn’t pick anything all too overwhelming. But first things first.

“And then maybe you can teach me?” He did light hand gestures between the two of them playfully as he suggested it. Japanese seemed difficult, but he found it among the interesting along with Spanish and French.

“Well I figure you know hello how are you, nice to meet you, I’m good how are you, my name is..so..and..hmm…sorry..” He looked up at her when he said that word. “I think you may say that word too often for some reason.” He quickly went back to the words he thought she may know. “Thank you, goodbye, hello.” Finally he skimmed across some things she may not know.

“How about..I..like.” He picked a random activity. “To play the paino.” He searched the Japanese dictionary and pointed to tatoeba hoping he would find out what she liked.

Kaiya appreciated the help in English. She wanted to get better so that she could communicate with more people in Elysium. Kaiya wanted to have more friends, and to learn more things about the world around her. She had been so restricted up until the time she came to Elysium, and now that she was here she felt like a bird newly freed from a cage. The fae smiled brightly at Sheldon, and nodded when he asked his question.

"Ya-yes," she said slowly. "I can teaching you, Japanese." She was nodding vigorously now, her hand reaching for her own dictionary as he started to speak again. He was speaking fairly quickly, and she was trying her best to keep up with him. The words he had spoken were ones that Kaiya was familiar with, having practiced them everyday.

"Yes, I know..." she began counting off the words she knew on her fingers. "Hello, I am Kaiya. How are you? I am fine. Thank you. Goodbye..." She continued on with various other words, mostly small ones that enabled a person to communicate on the most basic level. Faye had told her that she had to start off small before she leaped to something bigger, but she had been practicing the little ones for so long that she grew tired of them. Kaiya wanted to learn something new.

The Japanese fae watched Sheldon curiously as he pointed to a word in the dictionary. Tatoeba. He had also said something with the word 'like'. Kaiya was familiar with that as well, but she was confused as to what that had to do with an example. Maybe he was asking her what she liked? She wasn't sure.

"You like... pee-an-oh? What is pee-an-oh?"

Sheldon gave a confused expression. Did she really not know what a piano was? It would be a good sight to see if she was unfamiliar with such an instrument. Maybe he spoke of it wrong? He scratched his head then smiled sheepishly as he pressed his hands on the desk like a piano. “You play it like this.” He said reasonably slowly. “It makes music.” He moved his fingers then hummed hot cross buns to his movements. “You know, to the movement of your fingers?” He laughed lightly at how silly he must have looked. “I like the piano. It’s beautiful.”

Sheldon pointed at her casually and gave a few examples. “Nature? Books? A boy? “ He smiled in a harmless teasing way. He meant no harmless intentions in asking if she liked anyone. “How about rain? The beach?” He loved the rain and he had no idea why. Maybe it was because he wasn’t a fan of the weather always being so sunny. He wasn’t a person who was affected by the weather.

It wasn't that Kaiya didn't know what a piano was, she just had a very different way of saying it. She put emphasis on different parts of the word, saying 'pian - oh' instead of 'pee-an-oh'. Once Sheldon mimed the word on the tabletop, his fingers moving along imaginary keys, Kaiya understood what he meant. She blushed furiously at her mistake and bowed her head. "Ano... sorry..." She said before she smiled at him. "Pee-an-oh," she continued using the English pronunciation, "Is very beautiful." Kaiya loved the sound of music, especially when it was played well, and Kaiya loved classical music.

The fae thought of different things that she liked as well, understanding what Sheldon was asking of her this time around. "I like..." she paused and chewed on her lower lip. "I like... horse, with wings. And... I like... the rain, yes!" She was agreeing with Sheldon when he mentioned rain, and nodded vigorously to emphasize her point. "Rain is very... ano... clean? I like very much."

Kaiya enjoyed walking around in the rain, the feel of the cool drops upon her skin was cleansing in a way that a shower wasn't. She felt free in the rain, and happy. She glanced up at Sheldon shyly, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Sheldon-kun, you are very nice." She was enjoying her impromptu English lesson with Sheldon, and she found that it was helping her out immensely.

Sheldon gave off a sheepish look. He himself said piano rather funny. Not that she said it in any way that was amusing, but he could understand it if she misunderstood him. “Ah, I am very sorry I thought..you didn’t know.” He nodded his head in a formality that was trying to express that he was sorry. He was happy that she thought the piano was beautiful. “I play the piano..” He told her softly. He loved playing the Beatles, classic, anything he could get his hands on-he played. Some he played better of course.

The Psychic chuckled lightly when she spoke of horses with wings. “Ah yes. That of fairy tales right? I wish they really existed. Pegasus right?” Sheldon was ignorant to the fact that they really existed here in Elysium. If they existed, then he really would believe this was a place of every species he could imagine. Orcs, Giants, sprites, pixies..Of course he had yet to encounter any of these creatures, he just knew they existed.

He was more than fond of their meeting and how nice Kaiya was to him. “I try to be nice..” Sheldon was truly a bit of an ass, this seemed to be a rare occasion. He smiled at the fae for a moment before he shyly looked down. “You know, uhm. We don’t always have to do lessons in here. I mean outside is nice, the town, the café?” He realized he was talking kind of fast. “Oh bullocks. I’m talking kind of fast, aren’t I?”

Kaiya thought it was wonderful that Sheldon knew how to play the piano. She loved the instrument though she had never had the chance to learn how to play it herself. She often dreamed that she would learn one day, but life stole that dream from her many years ago. There was no room to learn the piano when you lived in a brothel, and you were a prostitute. Maybe now that she was in Elysium she could learn how to play. Maybe, just maybe, Sheldon could teach her.

"You play piano for me... yes?" It was the fae's way of asking Sheldon to play for her sometime. She didn't know any other way of asking for a demonstration, such words being beyond her current vocabulary. "Maybe you can teaching Kaiya piano?" She looked at him earnestly, hoping that he would agree to her request. She would adore him forever if he took the time to teach her.

She continued to listen to him talk about the winged horses, and from what she could gather he did not believe they were real. Kaiya had seen the pegasi at the stables on more than one occasion; the young fae loved to visit the gentle creatures, spending hours just brushing their soft coat of hair. "Ah yes, peh-gah-sus." She was saying it slowly again. "Horse with wings, yes? They are real! Kaiya has seeing them at the..." she paused here. She didn't know how to say stables or barn in English, and so she grabbed her dictionary and looked up the word naya, and pointed it to Sheldon.

After Sheldon understood what she was saying, Kaiya put away her dictionary. She noticed that Sheldon was looking at her before he glanced away shyly. Kaiya did the same - it always made her blush when another person looked at her in that shy manner. He began to speak, a little fast for the fae but she managed to pick up on some of the words. "Ah yes... outside is pretty. You want to going outside? With Kaiya?"

Sheldon felt bad, but he figured people worked at the library for a reason and one of their tasks was putting away books so he didn’t feel bad leaving the Japanese books at the table as he rose to his feet. “I would love to teach you the piano. I know the wine bar has one.” He was very familiar with that place. Not only did he work there, but he guessed he favored that place a little too much. “But maybe we can find one elsewhere.” The psychic tried to speak slowly so perhaps she would get fragments of what he was saying.

He was glad Kaiya trusted him with walking outside and he began to take pretty slow strides making sure she kept up with him. He could feel the air drifting in when they drew closer to the door. Sheldon made sure to open the door for her and he glanced down before he followed. He had hoped they would meet again after their walk. But for now he simply closed the door to the library and caught up with the fae, walking alongside her.
