Who: Everyone!
Where: Just outside of Helicharis at the Festival Grounds
When: 6 PM till ??
What: Autumnal Equinox Festival - It's the first day of Autumn!

ooc: To join in on the festivities, simply comment to the main post. Your entry can be a narrative or open to others. If you are replying to someone else reply to their comment and not to the main post. All activities are open for participation, it is up to your discretion what your character will do.

The past week had been nothing but preparations for the coming equinox that would herald the new season. It was a happy time for the forest creatures as they were the ones that spent hours on end setting up the grounds for the joyous celebration. Wooden lamp posts lit with orange flames bordered the area as well as throughout the entire festival grounds. Each attendee was greeted with a flower garland for their head, neck, or wrist if they desired one.

Fairies had decided to attend this festival as well because of the bright colors that had attracted their attention. There were bonfires all throughout the festival as well and they added warmth to the cool night air. The fiery glow that came from each pyre added a comforting feel to the entire atmosphere, and there were many fauns and fae dancing around each one in a happy manner. They were singing songs and laughing joyously as they pulled passers-by into their happy circle.

Musical fauns played their instruments as they marched through the festival. Fae and fairies flew around the traveling group, singing and humming to the music that resonated in the air. A large stage was set up for those who wished to perform in front of a large crowd be it with singing or acting or any other sort of talent they possessed. There were shows held as well, particularly by those who possessed magic and wished to entertain the crowd for an hour or tow.

Food and drink tables were set up nearby to feed the many attendees with whatever they could think to eat. And wine, they couldn't forget about the wine! There were scantily clad fae handing out the intoxicating liquid to everyone with a free hand. The wine this year was extremely potent and anyone with a weak constitution would no doubt get inebriated with just one cup.

The southern part of the festival held the games geared toward the young or simply the young at heart. Barrels were available for those who wished to roll down hills, piles of leaves were created for those who wanted nothing more than to jump and play in them. Colored sparklers were handed out freely and there were even pegasus rides for anyone who wanted to soar through the skies. There were contests here as well, simple ones that had participants bobbing for apples and fruits and curious prizes, searching for toys in piles of hay, and even pinning horns on a wooden faun.

Contests were set up again as they were just a month earlier. Archery contests and wrestling matches, potato sack and three-legged races. There were various game booths set up as well, such as knife throwing and ring tossing. There was even an area set up for pie eating contests and a Dwarven ale contest where participants could try to out-drink a dwarf.

Fireworks exploded periodically throughout the night and the gleeful sounds of the festival echoed all around. Elysium was a joyful place tonight as citizens celebrated the equinox beneath the near-full moon.

Caden, sisters & open

"Tonight," Caden told his sisters emphatically, "is the night in which Cara-Jane and I become household names; our music will touch people's hearts and the legend that is us will press upon their minds, and the stars will glimmer just right to signal that it was our fate to play this night. Yes, it will be a truly magical occasion, the duet of flute and guitar tinged with the graces of the gods!" He lifted his hand up to the sky as he, Caitlin and Cara-Jane walked to the Autumn Festival. His speech, unfortunately, did not have the effect he wanted it to have on the girls, who simply stared at him.

Cara-Jane raised an eyebrow. "You know that's full of crap. Stop waxing lyrical," she said, though he knew she was just teasing. "We're not that good. Let's just give a good performance and enjoy the rest of the evening." Ordinarily she might have humored him, and this was an obvious sign of nerves. Cara never played in front of an audience before and he couldn't blame her for being anxious. She might have worn something fancier to call attention to herself, but she decided upon a simple black dress.

Normally quiet, Caitlin walked besides the two with a small smile at her siblings' antics and soon they were at the Festival grounds. The rest of the McCalls would arrive later, when it was time for their performance. Caden sighed with happiness as he saw the stage upon which he would play - he couldn't wait! Time passed and before he knew it, he headed to the stage with Cara-Jane.

Not many people were milling around the stage yet, but he walked to the center of it as if he were in front of a large crowd. "Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present as a number for your enjoyment, "Here comes the sun" by myself, Caden McCall and Cara-Jane McCall!" He and his sister took their places and started to play. They did the introdruction before Cara-Jane started to sing. Her voice was better than Caden's, he had to admit, with a sweet mezzo-soprano, and she gave the song as much soul as she could. They finished after a few minutes and left the stage, pleased with themselves.

She had been one of those that came a little earlier in the day to explore what the shops had put out and what the many different people were bound to bring to the festival. The stage for the performances was found easily enough; Marit had brought a blue blanket with embroidered flowers along the edges that she had done herself. She spread it out on the grass on a marvelous spot for watching everything that was happening, both on stage and around the festival grounds.

The two people that had encouraged Mister Wyatt were to be the first to perform, appropriately so. Unfortunately there were not flocks of people settled down yet but it was still early in the evening and there were bound to be more to come. They were making to be a very good duo and their voices were pleasant. "Here Comes The Sun" was a fantastic number to start off and their cheer would hopefully continue through all of the performances.

When they were finished, Marit excused herself and went to congratulate the pair on their performance. "Mister McCall! Miss McCall!" she greeted cheerfully as she appproached. But the 'Miss McCall' would merit a few head-turns as there were quite a few ladies present. "Hello," she said with a bright smile and a nod. To Caden and Cara-Jane, the mermaid had to give her compliments. "That was just lovely. I really enjoyed it." From the side of the stage, it looked a lot bigger than she thought it looked from out on the blanket. Dear Mister Wyatt was so brave to sing!

Caden shared a grin with Cara-Jane and Caitlin, running a hand across his forehead to wipe away the slight perspiration that had formed from nerves. He liked to think that he was more outgoing than a majority of people, but he could still get stage fright to a small degree.Cara-Jane seemed unaffected though - no doubt her fear left as soon as she walked upon the stage. There was a reason why she was one of his favorite sisters, after all. He heard his name being called out formally and turned to the direction of the voice. Oh, yes, it was the cheerful blonde Marit who'd been with Nathaniel Wyatt, the shy frowny faced man.

He smiled at her greeting and responded as enthusiastically, not that it was difficult. "Hello, Marit!" Her compliment was much appreciated. "Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it because it was a blast playing it! Now if you have any requests, please tell me and Cara because we're more than happy to play 'em. Once there is a free spot for us to perform, of course." He wondered if he couldn't persuade her to sing as well. "Maybe you'd like to join Cara for a song? I'm sure she'd want to, eh, sis?"

"Of course!" Cara-Jane said, not one to pass up a good duet with someone who looked like she might enjoy it. "I hope you sing - but if not that's perfectly all right. I want to try that apple bobbing. Quite good with my mouth, you know?" She laughed as if she meant something more with that. Caden rolled his eyes and she poked him in the arm. "So, where's tall, dark and vampiric? I thought he'd be escourting you to the festival." It was forward of her to say, no doubt, but she didn't much care. That was just the way she was.

Chris and Hayate
[info]runasone
2008-08-05 03:01 pm UTC (link)
Chris had to say that fall was her most absolute favorite time of the year. The weather wasn't too hot or too cold, there was the definite feel of 'holiday' lingering about since so many holidays came in the latter part of the year, but the best thing about autumn were the changing colors of the leaves. They would shine in the sun like jewels and rustle whenever the wind blew. Chris loved jumping into piles of leaves - it was something she had done ever since she was a child and she still loved it to this day. Though leaves hadn't quite fallen just yet (it was only the first day of autumn after all) Chris was looking forward to the time she'd be able to gather enough for a giant pile. She'd have to convince Hayate to play around in it with her though a part of her wondered if he would be willing to do something like that.

But that was a thought for another day. Today she was going to visit the vampire for the purpose of taking him to the festival. Hayate and Chris had agreed a few days prior to go to the festival together and the young girl couldn't have been more thrilled that he had agreed! Though she had spent most of her time the past week in Hayate's presence she didn't mind spending more time with him since she adored his company. It never mattered what they decided to do since she just wanted to spend time with him.

Her small hand rapped on the door of Hayate's cottage and she began to rock back and forth on her feet as she waited for him to answer. She began humming quietly to herself while her fingers fiddled with the hem of her pink apron. She was wearing a costume she had found in the tailoring shop and she just had to have it. She smoothed down the material and few times and then put her fingers into the small pockets. The costume was something that looked traditionally German with a white short-sleeved shirt beneath a light blue dress that hugged her developing figure nicely. Her blonde hair was pulled into a ponytail that hung over her left shoulder and she messed with that a couple of times, fluffing out the curls. Chris didn't know why she worried what she looked like when she visited Hayate, but she did. And she hoped he liked her costume since she wore it for him especially.

Today was the day of the festival. Despite his disinterest in cheerful occasions, Hayate had agreed to participate in this one with Chris. She had proposed her question to him a few days ago, and the vampire could not find the heart to say no due to the smile on her face. When he opened the front door of his cottage, Hayate expected to find Chris standing there. What he did not expect was for her to be wearing a revealing, form-fitting costume of some traditional origin. It caught him by surprise. She looked more like an adult with the costume, though she was only a teenager of fourteen years. Her top, which was meant to show off a woman's bosom, accentuated cleavage that Hayate had never noticed on her before.

As Hayate's eyes rose to meet hers, he noticed how Chris had worn makeup on her face today. A soft, rosy blush painted her cheeks pinker than usual, and her eyes were outlined with a dark shade of eyeliner. Her lashes were fuller and darker as well. There might have been a soft brown shade of eyeshadow around her eyes, and her lips were colored with a shiny pink gloss. It was impossible for him not to notice these things. The way she presented herself today was not that of a girl, but as a woman.

He should not be so taken aback. Shaking his head softly, Hayate smiled at her and opened the door further to let her come inside. He closed the door behind her. "Well, if you're going to wear a costume," Hayate said, "give me a moment to change." He left the sitting room and returned shortly afterwards dressed in an outfit that composed of a leather jacket and matching pants. He wore a sleeveless white and gray shirt beneath the jacket, though it currently remained hidden from view. "Something modern with something old?" he asked, smiling. Hayate shook his head, utilizing his glamour to give his hair a smooth, black appearance. He would look like another youth in Elysium, and tonight it would be fun to masquerade on the arm of someone else with Zach's look on himself.

Emily bit her lip as she gazed at the stage where she'd be dancing. She wanted to do it despite the nerves that shot down her spine and made her stomach churn. All her life, she made a point to never want fame or attention, focusing on school or later, taking care of her daughter. After years of being a wallflower, she had this opportunity to have her five minutes of being in the limelight. Who could resist something like that? Echo had a difficult time wrapping her mind around the fact that Emily decided to wear makeup and a black pencil dress for a simple festival, but she easily distracted the girl by showing her the dress she got her daughter. Then, topping it off, Emily helped Echo with her hair and makeup. Thirteen was much too early to be wearing makeup, but she earned herself cool points for the gesture.

The two of them split in different directions and promised to meet in a couple of hours, which was fine with her as her dance would be before that and she'd still have enough time to mingle. Last festival found her nervous because she didn't know anyone - now that she did, she felt much better in that respect. Smoothing down the lower half of her dress, she walked farther into the festival grounds. No one she knew was around and she figured people liked to wait a little while before arriving.

Unfortunately, that meant she had to wander around alone, which she disliked. It was difficult not to feel uncomfortable when anyone could look at her and notice her tight dress and.. No, that was the point of this festival. It was time for a fun evening and she needed to stop worrying about everything. She never got to experience the end of her teenage years, so she could make up for lost time.

Emily & Mal & Maddy

Malcolm was being pulled around the festival by Maddy. She was very excited by the prospect of a large gathering (having not been in Elysium for the first festival). She was making a game out of picking up flowers that had fallen from garlands, which Malcolm dutifully charmed to stay in her long hair. He was such a sucker for taking care of his little girl. Dear, when had he started thinking of Maddy as his little girl? Well, it was the truth. He hoped Ide would join them out at the festival, but he knew the Orc shied away from large gatherings. He also hoped he saw....

Emily. Malcolm's eyes grew wide as he set eyes on his girlfriend. He came to a dead stop, just staring at her. His mouth was slightly agape. She looked... Gorgeous. His cheeks immediately turned bright red.

"Maaaaal!" Maddy whined slightly, pulling on his hand to try and gain his attention again. "Why'd you stop?" She looked around and noticed Emily. Maddy smiled broadly. It was obvious even to the young girl how much Malcolm liked Emily. "EMILY!" Maddy called out, waving her free hand. "EMILY! Over here!"

Malcolm gulped when he realized what Maddy was doing. Not that he was nervous around Emily any longer. After all, they were dating. But she looked so incredibly beautiful tonight, he couldn't help but feel the familiar butterflies in his stomach.

Mitsuko and OPEN (maybe a certain Muse? *hopeful look*)
[info]foxylady
2008-08-05 08:20 pm UTC (link)
Mitsuko bit her lower lip as she looked around the crowd at the festival. Maybe it was pathetic, but she had to admit, she was looking for Loki. They hadn't spoken to each other since she had gotten out of the medical pavilion. Their relationship was not bad, per se. Rather, it was non-existant at the moment. Loki needed time to think. Mitsuko was willing to give it to him. But if they just happened to run into each other.

It had been weighing on her mind. She wanted things to be right between them. While she wanted to see her other friends, she had to admit... The Muse was first on her mind. It was a bit ridiculous. Her last festival had been like this as well. That had been before they had started dating. Mitsuko had been looking around for Loki, hoping to run into him. She hadn't succeeded last time, but maybe this time fortune would be in her favor.

At least she'd managed to convince Logan to come with her. He needed to get out more. But he had taken off quickly upon arrival, heading off on his own. He seemed to have his own agenda for the evening. Mitsuko was growing more and more concerned for her little brother. He seemed to have acquired a great deal of bruises on his handsome face. She couldn't explain it. He didn't seem to have any enemies. Yet each morning, they seemed to be worse.

Mitsuko adjusted her hat. She had dressed comfortably. The cooler weather had made her choose an outfit which covered most of her skin, but still managed to look very sexy and cool. She'd worn a hat to obscure her ears. She was still keeping her profile low, following the debacle with the elvish thingy. Soon enough, she'd be back to her old self.

Hopefully, she'd run into someone who made it easier to feel like her old self. She looked around, lips pursed, hoping she'd run into one of her many friends and... If fate smiled on her... her boyfriend.

Mitsuko and Loki
[info]lokithemuse
2008-08-14 04:20 pm UTC (link)
Loki was enjoying the festival like anyone else that night. Well, maybe not like anyone else. At the current moment, he was dancing around and making a fool of himself. Somehow, at some point during the beginning of the festival, he landed a huge crown of plants and flowers wound together on his head. The top was encrusted with tons of different flowers, the bottom of it weaved from green stems and vines. A big sunflower sat right in the middle at the front of the array, and Loki wore it proudly atop his head.

Not only that, but he had managed to gather a long Conga Line behind him as he danced his way through the crowds. Everyone parted when they saw them coming to let them through, and it was by chance that Loki's path led him right up to Mits. He didn't bother to stop as he laid eyes on her and a big grin spread across his face. "Mits!" he exclaimed happily. As the leader of the Conga Line, or any part of it, he couldn't just stop, so instead Loki took Mits by the arm and put her in front of the huge line he had built of many random people. Most of them seemed to be drunk, but that was of little importance. If he wanted to talk to Mits, he couldn't stop the line or there would be a mess as a result of it.

Positioning Mits at the front of the line with his hands on her hips, Loki said loud enough for her to hear, "You're the new leader of the Conga Line, Miss Mits! Now, lead the way to partyin' and festivation!" No, the last thing he said wasn't even a word. Loki had made it up completely, but since when did that matter? He did that all of the time.

Logan stayed to the shadows.... At least, what little shadows there were. The festival grounds were brightly lit and filled with people laughing and celebrating. It made him more than a little uncomfortable. He was not good around such large groups. The festival also pained him slightly, making him think of his nocturnal dates with Kaiya. They'd been happening almost every night for the last week. He would never be able to enjoy anything like this with her. Not in reality. Only in the world of her dreams.

Pulling his hood up to obscure his ears and bruised face, Logan edged his way around the crowd. He looked around, to see if he could find one of his allies... Charlie or Zach or...

He felt the breath knocked out of him as he set eyes on Chris. He had never seen her look like that before. So different than the exuberant 'little sister' he was used to. She looked... He shook his head to free himself of that particular thought. It was Chris. But his stomach did a flip-flop when he saw her accompanied by a handsome man. For a fleeting moment, Logan thought it might have been Zach. But common sense told him this wasn't so. Logan took a deep breath and resolved to figure out a way to question Charlie about this situation. He wouldn't go straight to Chris (that would most likely incur her wrath, something he wasn't too keen on). Talking to Charlie would be good. Charlie would, no doubt, be as interested in quelling this as Logan now was.

As Logan was making his way around, he found a cup of wine thrust into his hand. Still preoccupied with thoughts of Kaiya and Chris, Logan didn't even think twice as he downed the alcohol. With only the one drink, Logan already found himself feeling a little bit fuzzy. But he had managed to mostly take his mind off the women in his life. Drinking it was then. Well, with the number of times he'd dealt with Mitsuko with a hangover.... Maybe it was her turn.

Blinking to try and clear his head a bit, Logan looked around. He'd been told before drinking alone wasn't a good thing. He needed to find someone to join him.

Logan, Ath Dara, OPEN

Ah, the festival was going so well! Ath Dara sighed contently with a broad smile on her face as she stood back and looked over everything. She had promised her parents during dinner she would be careful to not get hurt or drawn in to anything while at the party. So, that's why she stood a little out of the way--still participating, but cautious. The brunette clapped for a group of fellow Fauns who had been dancing, singing, and playing their own music. Then they had invited her to join them, one of their kind.

At first she turned them down, nervous of being so free in public. It was a wonder how they were so joyful in front of all of these people, but realized that she should learn to be more open too. The people in this place were kind souls of various race. They wouldn't hurt her. So, nodding, Ath Dara took a few steps toward the Fauns.

"Excuse me!" she cried when she found her hands instinctively coming up and touching someone's arm as she nearly bumped in to the figure. "I'm sorry! I didn't see you there!" Clumsy her. She didn't add that aloud, but would have liked to. Some of the Faun off a few yards away giggled and laughed at her before motioning that she could join them when she was ready. They went back to their own events with some of the other creatures, entertaining children who had faces glowing with joy.

In turn, Ath Dara looked up at Logan's face with a small smile. "I didn't hurt you, did I?" she asked, glancing at their feet. She had nearly stepped on his toes. A hoof on a toe was not pleasant at all and she hoped he was alright. The five foot tall woman hardly recalled being so clumsy, but lately she had been. Perhaps she was always this way, never noticing for she only had three other people to spot it themselves. Ath Dara was rarely embarrassed in front of her family, but before strangers? Most definitely.

Loud chattering filled the air around them along with music from other corners of the festival grounds, all of it accumulating together in the joyful ruckus that was the Autumn Festival this year. Zach grinned as they passed by a few people they knew, unable to wave with his hands on Adrienne to make sure he didn't lose her to the crowd. Besides, he liked finding an excuse to keep her close to him, even if it was a small one. He laughed as they almost tripped over something in their way unseen, and Zach had to grab Adrienne around the waist and cling to her to prevent them from falling over and landing in a heap on the ground.

They were trying to make their way towards an area on the grounds dedicated to water-related enjoyment. There were lots of little man-made waterfalls, fountains, sprinkling streams of water, and people having fun with each other by spraying others with water or running beneath a sprinkler-like miniature field lain out amidst a treeless section of land close to the lake. Zach and Adrienne bumped into Nico along the way, and Zach told him about where they going. A cheesy and excited grin overtook his best friend's face, and Nico immediately came along after them to find the water festivities.

However, finding it wasn't as easy as Zach hoped it would be. Somewhere along the way, the three of them got lost. Zach was still clinging onto Adrienne from behind, and he glanced from side to side and all around, trying to see if he could spot water shooting up into the air in either direction. There was nothing, though. Well, nothing that he could see. Zach frowned in a puppy-like manner and hugged Adrienne around the waist as he rested his chin on her shoulder. "I think we've lost it," Zach said aloud, not sure which direction they were supposed to go in from here. Maybe they could stop someone and ask.

"Hey, Nico!" Zach said, turning Adrienne's upper body with his so he could talk to his friend instead of lifting his chin from her shoulder. "Go ask someone!"

Re: Zach, Adrienne, Nico, Simon & Sascha

Sascha had spent the better part of the evening wandering through the festival grounds and taking in the sights, periodically checking his watch to make sure time hadn't managed to speed up on him while he'd been enjoying himself. He was due back at the main stage for his dance performance with Emily in less than an hour, and he didn't want to stray too far off schedule.

Part of Sascha's time spent navigating the crowds of people had included a sort of impromptu physical comedy routine he'd perfected back in his childhood after watching one too many Buster Keaton films; it involved a hat (in this case, his trusty old fedora), a handkerchief, and the ability to flip in mid-air and land on his rear without doing any excessive damage to himself (or his pants). All of the festival-goers he'd used as unwitting participants in his routine had been amused by his antics, and the whole shebang had been a definite hit with the children. All in all, the night was shaping up to be a lot of fun.

Then a familiar voice caught Sascha's ear, and he glanced over his shoulder to find the owner. He grinned as he spotted Zach and Adrienne standing a few yards away literally wrapped up in one another, and he only hesitated for a moment before approaching them. His mind had been far too occupied with other thoughts and memories over the last few weeks to devote much time to fawning over the pretty Kitano boy, but now that the target was once again in his sight, he was a man on a mission.

Sascha came up behind the pair of lovebirds, smirking amusedly at their clingy behavior as he reached into his pocket for a few props. He'd loved magic ever since he'd been a kid, and although the few parlor tricks and sleight of hand effects he knew couldn't really hold a candle to the real thing- which was certainly easy to find in this place, he had to admit- they were still good conversation starters. Sascha had always had a bit of a flair for the dramatic, even though he only rarely acted on it. Well...sort of.

Without announcing himself first, Sascha extended an arm just past Zach's shoulder so that his hand would be visible to the pair in front of him. He made a sharp gesture with his wrist before rubbing his thumb and fingers together to produce a brightly colored paper flower, seemingly out of thin air, which he then handed to a surprised Adrienne. "Pretty flower for a pretty lady? You can never have too many," he remarked, motioning to the flower garland she'd already received at the festival entrance. He moved more into the couple's line of vision and produced a flower from his other hand, which he presented to Zach with a mischievous grin. "Flowers or ladies, that is."

"It's been a while, hasn't it?" he chirped cheerfully, lifting his hat in greeting before sweeping it out in front of him as he bowed. "I was starting to wonder if I'd ever see you two outside of the full moon again." You look even better without the fur coat, he mentally added to Adrienne. He smiled over at Nico as well, nodding his head slightly in acknowledgement. Ah, yes, he definitely remembered the sprite. "Seems like everyone's out and about now, doesn't it?"

Marit and Nathaniel (and Voe whenever she feels like it!)
[info]fairseas
2008-08-06 06:49 pm UTC (link)

Marit had been looking forward to the festival and was determined not to allow herself to get overtly excited and fidgety. She picked out a long dress, deep green in color, the liveliest of the trees and the grass as they would now all begin to turn vibrant shades of reds, oranges, and yellows. Elysium would look as though it were on fire and and she was anxious to see it if only for its immense beauty.

A garland of flowers now adorned her braided and upswept hair. She watched in awe of the fauns, faes and fairies as they celebrated the coming fall in ways she had never seen before. There were very polite but, um, sparsely dressed fae handing out classes of wine and Marit tried a refusal of acceptance until it was practically shoved into her hand. Some felt it necessary to get into the spirit of things with the free goods but Marit knew that she would only be able to handle a few very meager sips.

Before long, she had found a good spot in front of the stage, not too close so one had to crane their necks to see everything but not too far away, either. Caden and Cara-Jane had been the first to perform and she was very pleased with their song choice. Many acts followed thereafter, some of which were able to display their talents a little better than others but it was all very enjoyable nonetheless. Her dear Mister Wyatt would be amongst those that could say yes, they had performed at the fall festival.

The little fish in her stomach were jumping and swimming about furiously for him though she really did not want him to catch on that she was as nervous as he must be. If she did not think that another sip of wine might tarnish her appearance in front of her friend, she might have had another nip at it. She took a deep breath and unconsciously began to pinch a piece of her skirt.

Marit, Nathaniel and Voe
[info]yetheregrets

Nathaniel slipped his hands into the pockets of his blazer in a pitiful attempt to ignore the pounding of his heart. Walking alongside Voe in her long black dress with her too straight posture did not help matters, especially when she was not one for conversation. He could have done with someone's cheerful chatter to take his mind off of things. Perhaps that was to change soon, when they arrived at the Festival Grounds. They continued to walk in silence until Nathaniel reached the end of his patience. "Please, say something," he said and it was obvious not speaking was not preferable.

He reeked of discomfort; it was apparent in his stance and furrowing of his brow. Voe didn't need to know him for that long to be able to determine that. Volcano might have been quiet, yet emotions ran rampant within him. At his request to speak, the corner of her mouth turned up in a small smile. Poor young vampire. "What would you have me say? Your body rattles with nerves so loudly, it pains my ears," she chided. "We are better than this; we are able to overcome our fear. Singing is a pathetic reason to be afraid."

"I have never done this before. Have you?" Nathaniel asked, though it came out harsher than he intended. Not even pausing for her answer, he continued to speak. "I'm guessing no. And it's important that I do because Miss Larsson wants to hear, but I'm not sure I can even get on stage without choking." He didn't usually rant aloud when he was nervous and wondered why he did it now. They entered the festival grounds a short while later and one of the faes daintily stepped over with cups of wine. He shook his head to say no thank you, but Voe took a couple instead.

She handed one of them to Nathaniel with such a forceful look that he relented and drank half of it in one gulp before handing the cup back to her. Voe downed the rest of the wine and the other cup entirely, blinking at its potency.

In retrospect, Voe really should not have done that. She blinked as the world spun around her and made it difficult for her to stand, but she refused to let anyone see. Following him into the grounds, she watched as Nathaniel looked around for Dandelion, surely. It was hard to believe that her ally had found an ally and she needed to discover that the woman was strong and reliable enough. There she was, the only blonde with long hair, in front of them. She had flowers in her hair! Voe giggled at how appropriate her nickname was, without even realising it. Now she desperately wanted to talk to the woman - first things first, Nathaniel had to introduce them.

Seeing Marit calmed him and he took a moment to breathe before walking over to her. "Hello, Miss Larsson. I hope you've been well," he said with his eyes soft. He glanced at Voe, who gave him a look to remind him not to forget she was with him. "Voe, this is Marit Larsson. Miss Larsson, this is Voe." Part of him worried how well the odd vampire would get along with his gentle friend; if Voe was too harsh on her.

"You are an interesting one, Dandelion," Voe said and Nathaniel cringed at the nickname. She was stuck on calling everyone by names she thought of and nothing else, which was embarrassing in this instance. "You are able to persuade Volcano to make you his ally with your smiles and innocent words, and I will not have you harm a fellow bloodseeker." Nathaniel wanted the earth to split open and swallow him whole and it got worse. "You will dance with him. He is a man and longs to touch you." Apparently being drunk made her even more blunt. She reached out her hand to take Marit's and pulled the woman, crashing her into Nathaniel and he held her upper arms to prevent her from falling any farther.

He leaned forward to murmur in Marit's ear. "I'm sorry. She's drunk and I have never seen her like this." After a moment, he let go of her. It was best that she ignored everything Voe said for fear of being embarrassed. It was decided - Nathaniel would never let Voe drink so much again.

Echo & OPEN

2008-08-07 05:10 pm UTC (link)
Another festival. Echo was so excited! Her mother made her even happier by letting her have a fancy hairdo and makeup. Makeup! She waited for a day when she could wear it and for some reason tonight it was possible. Even more amazing, she had a new dress! She feared that getting a dress from her mom meant that it'd be something she would not wear, but it was nice. Very pretty. It was light blue and just past her knees, made of a satiny material. She felt extravagent for wearing such a dress, but that was hardly the point.

She followed Emily to the Festival Grounds, and looked around for anyone she recognised. Oh well. She was going to have fun no matter what, that was her plan! Her mother soon met with Malcolm and Maddy and Echo decided to browse the various parts of the Festival Grounds so she could decide what to do. Someone sang a song she did not recognise on stage as she walked towards the people giving out the colored sparklers. Receiving a pink one, Echo waved it about in snake-like movements, admiring the light streaks it left in the air. Sparklers held a particular spot in her heart, as the fourth of July was one of her favorite holidays. Fireworks were one of the most beautiful things in the world, and she was so happy that they shot off every so often tonight.

She watched a couple of fauns play their instruments before walking over to the games. There was apple bobbing, but she decided not to do that because otherwise her makeup would be ruined. Faes were handing out cups of wine and she realised she wanted to try it, just to find out its taste. Her mom had never let her try before because she was too young, but thirteen was relatively old. After all, Echo was a teenager now and beginning to become more mature. The trouble was, how was she going to get a cup? She doubted anyone would give her some, so she had to swipe some. Even if it was wrong. One cup wouldn't hurt.

Swiping a cup wasn't going to be a problem for Echo, especially since Charlie had two for himself. That was the funny thing about fauns and fae, they didn't seem to care about age or race when it came to handing out alcoholic beverages to festival goers. Charlie hadn't been looking to drink any wine that night, but when one faun shoved a cup into his hand, and a pretty red-haired fae enticed him with another, well how could he refuse! And so there he was, the young fourteen-year old therianthrope weaving around the crowds with two cups of wine all to himself.

He took sips out of each cup periodically, each sip making him more tipsy than before. He didn't mind though, it was kind of fun seeing everything move around you even though you were standing still. It made his head feel funny, and it gave his stomach tingles, all of which were good feelings for the young boy. He smiled a bit lopsidedly at any cute girl that passed him by, until he spotted Echo in the distance.

"Echooooooo!" He cried out loud as he trotted over to her in a very crooked bee-line. His two cups of wine were sloshing over the edges, but he quickly licked up the liquid before it could drip to the ground. "Echooo..." he said with a goofy grin. "Hiiii... you're prettyyyyy." He chuckled and then handed her one of his wine glasses. "You have to drink this. Seriously... it's like the best stuff... ever!"

Dante - Narrative
[info]darkdevotion
2008-08-07 05:12 pm UTC (link)
The nearly full silver disc hovered over the festivities that night. Clear skies and even twinkling stars added to the decorative surroundings near the saltwater lake. A slight breeze was present, blowing with it the scents and sounds of the celebrating citizens. Dante enjoyed watching the people hustle back and forth around him. They were frantic with the desire to have some fun - they needed to be entertained and tonight the fauns of the forest provided them with the entertainment.

Activities, music, and booze were all any human needed to satisfy their urges. Include sex in all of that and a person could stay happy for at least a week. The Were with the piercing green eyes needed more though; such frivolities would not keep a man like himself occupied for very long. He needed more but of what he couldn't say. He only knew that he longed to feel alive again, and to feel free. The moon was calling to the darkness within his soul, fueling his desire to break free and roam the land.

Freedom.

Dante had been free once, free to do as he pleased when he pleased. Elysium was a haven that doubled as a cage. He was trapped, subject to the unwritten rules of the land. It was almost enough to make the wolf that lay deep inside burst forth to try its hand at breaking a few of those rules. But he wouldn't and neither would the wolf - this was a sanctuary for the time being and the opportunity to do more would soon arise, he was sure of it.

For now he would have to be fulfilled by too much wine and indulgence in salacious pleasures. And tonight he had his sights set on the voluptuous gypsy witch from the wine bar. Dante imagined that she could serve as a delectable distraction for his deviant desires, and he sauntered over toward her. She would be his tonight and she would enjoy every last minute of it until the coming dawn.

Kelsey and Lucinda left the house to come attend the festival tonight with their sixteen-year-old daughter, Alicia, in tow. Alicia, however, had broken away from her parents early on and wandered off into the crowds, promising not to be out too late and to be home by a reasonable hour. Kelsey questioned whether or not they would have any evidence of it either way in the morning, since he hoped to spend a pleasant evening with his wife if it was just the two of them.

Lucinda leaned over to kiss him on the cheek, a mischievous glint twinkling in her eyes. "I think we should enjoy ourselves tonight," she said.

Kelsey chuckled beneath his breath. "Only if your mother isn't around, watching our every move from afar."

"Do I look like a teenager, Kelsey?"

His smiled at his wife. "Of course you do, dear."

Lucinda couldn't help the blush that crept up into her cheeks. "Always the charmer," she said. "When you aren't being a hardass."

Their playful banter continued on as the two walked with their arms linked together. They even took up glasses of wine and drank a little, leading to a slightly inebriated state for both adults. However, they didn't drink too much. Just enough to loosen themselves up from their usual routine as being parents. Tonight was a night for themselves to enjoy each other's company as they once did before children came along, not that they didn't enjoy such moments all throughout parenthood.

Alicia would have her own fun, and so would Zach. Which left Kelsey and Lucinda to make their own fun, and they were going to enjoy it under the beautiful starry sky.

Amada and Zane

2008-08-08 07:04 pm UTC (link)
The last Autumnal Festival had worked out so well for the two of them that when that time of the year rolled around again, Amada couldn't think of single reason for she and Zane not to go. They had to, it was tradition! Of course, this time was a little different than the last, seeing that they'd be attending as husband and wife - something she still couldn't get over. Returning from the honeymoon had been a depressing day, but they'd settled into their new life so easily that those blissful days seemed to stretch out into weeks.

She knew she was running later, well a few minutes later than Zane wanted to leave, but she was a girl! They couldn't just pull on a shirt and be set, there was a whole process! She'd had to shower and make sure to smell absolutely delicious, then get out and blow dry her hair into soft waves. Then there was make-up to be put on and lotion, not to mention perfume and such before she picked out her outfit for the night. The festival was a nice time to dress up, at least a bit, so Amada pulled a blue and tan printed dress from her closet, sliding into it. She zipped closed the side and hurried to slide her feet into a pair of nude heeled sandals.

"Ok, ok, I'm ready!" she hurried out to the living room where Zane was waiting, sliding her rings back onto her finger as she went. She leaned down to brush a kiss to hips lips, flashing a warm smile, "Sorry, I know we're running late." She drew back, taking his hand to pull him up from where he'd been waiting, "So let's go...." Amada grinned, taking his hand to lead the way out of their place.

Zane and Amada had taken a carriage down to the festival grounds as they did only a month ago. It was then that he asked her to marry him, and now on their second trip to the festival they were married. It all seemed surreal in an oddly fantastic way. He never thought that life in Elysium would ever feel 'normal', and yet it was starting to be that way. This was normal for them, normal to take a horse-drawn carriage to a festival with fauns, centaurs, minotaurs, and other praeternatural beings. But most of all, normalcy was being with Amada. No matter how much he thought about it Amada made everything better for him, and now that they were married and that made everything better.

He didn't say anything about how long it took her to get ready knowing that woman always took longer than men. And anything that Amada did to get ready always made her look fabulous. Though, in Zane's opinion, his wife was always beautiful no matter what she decided to wear (or not to wear at times). Zane himself had gotten ready in fifteen minutes, wearing only a pair of khakis and a green polo shirt. He had a jacket with him just in case, and had also brought along a sweater for Amada.

The sights and sounds of the festival became louder as they traveled toward the celebration. Zane smiled and he wrapped an arm around Amada's shoulders. "So what did you want to do tonight, hrm?" He asked softly near her ear before he kissed her cheek.

Voe and Rion
[info]ohdeer_
2008-08-09 06:50 pm UTC (link)
Rion was surprised at how easy it had been for him to slip back into his normal life, his everyday routine. It had been nine days since he’d last seen Voe. She’d kissed him and ran away. Had he known where she lived he certainly would have gone after her. Regardless of what had happened between them, or what she thought had happened between them, he didn’t want to lose her friendship.

He’d gone back to work and spent long hours there, helping to prepare for the Autumnal Equinox Festival. They had an unbelievable amount of orders, but it was nice to have the work. He enjoyed it after all, and it helped to keep his mind from other things. By the time he’d made his last delivery to the festival citizens had already started to filter in and the place was alive with sound and smells. He went home, originally thinking that he wasn’t going to attend the festival.

He was not the most social of beings and he was a little tired from the work he’d put in the last week. Still, by the time he stepped out of the shower he had decided to at least make an appearance. His boss had told him to at least stop by and have a drink, that the taste of a real life would do him some good. Rion and him then proceeded into a mock-argument of whether or not Rion had a “real life”.

So Rion trimmed his hair, shaved a little and put on a black blazer over his usual t-shirt. Of course it crossed his mind that he might see Voe there, and really he hoped that he would but he wasn’t counting on it. The sun was just going down as he walked to the festival, but by the time he reached the festival grounds it was dark. He stopped to look up at the fireworks when a beautiful fae approached him and had a drink in his hand before he even knew she was there, “Oh.. Thanks.” He smiled as she walked away and he began to meander through the crowd with the drink in his hand.

It was a cool night and Rion loved being outside so he felt fairly content. He couldn’t help but search the crowd for Voe’s familiar form though he did not see her. He took a seat near one of the only bonfires not being danced around and proceeded to nurse his drink. After the first sip he looked down at the glass in surprise. He wasn’t a big wine drinker but it didn’t take anyone with experience to tell that tonight’s wine was exceptionally strong.

Voe could not believe the nerve of Nathaniel, who disrespected her and essentially told her she carried no weight with him - even after she brought him out of the medical pavillion and into her home in the assumption he'd be her ally. No, he was just confused, too focused on an ally of his own to pay much attention to her. She walked, huffing, from the two of them in the hope that she was able to cool down before he performed. Whether or not she was angry with him did not matter when he needed her support. In fact, she was so distracted by her frustrated thoughts that she almost walked by Rion, her Janus.

He was as handsome as she remembered and she noticed that his chin was mostly cleared of stubble, not to mention that he wore a blazer. Voe stepped up to him, reaching down to pull him up and taking in the sight and mostly the smell of the man. She knew that she needed to explain what had happened several days earlier, but part of her was still hesitant. Not as much now due to the alcohol though - she never thought she was such a lightweight, even if she hadn't had alcohol until now. Voe threw all caution to the wind and frustration at Volcano helped her to pull his head down to hers to give him a very passionate kiss.

The more rational side of her mind blurred over and gave way to darker, primal urges. Janus would probably not remain long at the festival if she had any say in the matter and she stepped back, taking his hand and pulling him to the edge of the festival grounds where there were hardly any people. "You are incredibly handsome," Voe half-murmured. "It is not the right behavior for an ally, but I don't care." She grabbed his upper arms and pushed him against a tree for another firm kiss. His lips were so warm against her cool ones and she wanted more, more. Freedom coursed through her as the air seeped through her dress and alcohol urged for her to continue. Rion would no doubt be able to see that she was drunk from the taste of the wine in her mouth, not that the thought passed through her mind.

"Tell me you want me," she murmured before she kissed him again, slipping her hand under his shirt. No, was that really what she wanted to hear? "Or pin me to the wall and take me right here." It was obvious that she was about to lose control completely and do something which she would regret even more later. If he started to touch her back, she wasn't sure what she might do. She held him closer so that there were only a few inches between them, her eyes burning like blue fires upon him.

Caden informed Emily that there were only six minutes before she and Sascha went on stage and she started to panic. Sascha was nowhere to be found, making her worried that he had forgotten about their performance. He hardly seemed the type to leave her high and dry like this, so she hadn't lost all hope yet. The reality of actually performing in front of people, regardless or not if they watched, scared her. What if she messed up so badly that people started to laugh at her? No, she had to remain focused. Calm. Nothing was going to happen to her.

As soon as Sascha arrived... she stood at the edge of the stage with Caden and his sisters, who were chatting amongst themselves. She might have said something to them, but nerves wracked her body and made it difficult for her to breathe well. In a minute or two, Emily might begin to hyperventilate. It was fortunate that Cara-Jane walked over to place a hand on her shoulder, giving her something to focus upon and she smiled at the other woman gratefully. If she didn't think about the audience, everything, she was sure, would be all right.

"Sorry, coming through!" Sascha whizzed through the crowds gathered along the concourse near the main stage in little more than a blur, crying out warnings and apologies as he and Sweeney practically bulldozed their way to the front. The encounter with Simon and the others had thrown him off a bit, and now he was trying to make up for lost time by sprinting. Fortunately he liked to jog on a daily basis, anyway, or he'd probably have passed out by this point.

Sweeney skidded to a stop as they reached the edge of the stage, but Sascha kept going, shooting up the steps and nearly colliding with Cara-Jane as he headed toward his dancing partner. "Ah, careful there!" he warned as he sidestepped the young McCall girl and then did a double-take before recognizing her. "Miss Cara-Jane! Didn't think I'd run into you again so soon," he quipped with a smile and a wink.

Sascha then turned his attention to Emily, feeling a little stab of guilt in his belly as he realized how nervous and jittery she seemed. His near-lateness probably hadn't helped things at all, either. "Sorry, Miss Emily," he apologized, leaning over and propping his hands on his thighs as he tried to recover whatever breath he could. "I'm here, no worries." He'd comfort her a little more as soon as he could breathe normally again.

Damn, he probably looked a mess. Sascha gave a breathless chuckle as he tried to brush a few wayward strands of hair from his eyes, glancing up at Emily and the gorgeous figure she cut in her little black dress. "Think I'm starting to feel a little outclassed," he replied jokingly as he raised an arm to check his watch again. Three minutes until showtime.
