NO SUCH PLACE

No Such Place

The global pandemic is what started it all. First, it was disease. People were dropping like flies. Then, came the war. Everyone blaming each other. Then, came the famine — whole world lain to waste. It was as if the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse showed up themselves. The world was over, or so it seemed. Now, it must begin again. We must rebuild. This is our beginning. Our corner of paradise, and we call it Elysium.

Who: Nereza and Rosalinda
When: Afternoon
Where: The Cafe
What: Meeting a member of the Head Council

Nereza thought it was about damn time mother nature decided not to be a cold hearted bitch anymore. There was still a fairly cold breeze following behind her while she walked towards the market. But she didn't have to walk through a pile of snow, or she didn't have to cover her face with a scarf due to the cold that made her face feel like it was burning. Not to mention she could wear a slightly lighter coat. It was one of her favorites, a brown leather coat she was nearly attached to.

When the Dhamphir arrived at the Market, she wasn't quite certain why she was there. Her cupboards and house were full with foods and various items from just about everywhere. She even had a few items from the Magic Supplies Shop. Maybe she could just find a place to relax and unwind. The Restaurant just wouldn't do it. She wasn't hungry and being around people stuffing their faces was anything but relaxing.

In all of her time in the sanctuary, she had not visited the cafe. She just got her own coffee grounds and made some at home. She guessed it wouldn't hurt to visit the location. It was busy on this day. She guessed it was because it was nicer outside. The line was long and Nereza managed to wait patiently. After she got her drink she sighed when she noticed the crowded area. As she maneuvered through the tables and chairs, the rumors were just as frequent as breathing.

Someone gripped her arm and asked her. "Can you believe there might be another attacker on the loose?" Nereza knelt towards them slightly. "Can you believe that I don't give a fairy's ass?" She tore her arm away and saw a chair was available and slid into it. It took her a few moments to realize there was another woman there. She was pretty, she'd admit it.

"There was nowhere else to sit. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't have sat with you anyway."

Who: Dylan & Adam
When: Evening
Where: Constance & Adam's cottage.
What: Dylan confronts Adam about what happened to Chris in the dungeon yesterday.

It took a lot for the djinni to get infuriated, but today was one of those days. He learned of some sensitive information regarding the orphan, Chris Jung. Yesterday, she was in the dungeon visiting her friend when a man attacked both Hayate and her. Chris was flung against the wall and knocked unconscious by strength ten times her own. It could have done more damage than what the girl was kindly handed by fate. The right hit could have even killed her, but that was not the most disturbing part of the news.

The most disturbing part was who would do something like that to the young girl. It was the least likely suspect, but the description only matched one man. Only one man could walk through walls and turn into the soil beneath their feet. Only one man could make his arm a vine, his abilities gifting him with such an extraordinary connection to the element he was originally born of.

It was a man whom Dylan knew very well.

Dylan spoke with Constance ahead of time and asked her permission to confront Adam alone. The news stunned the former Head Council member into silence. She denied it at first, not believing it to be true. It did not take long for Dylan to convince her of its authenticity, though. He took her to see the girl and hear the description from the boy. Constance did not want to believe it, but she didn’t have a choice. She conceded to Dylan’s request.

He walked into the cottage, closing the door behind him. )

Who: Adrienne and Zach
When: Night, around 8 PM
Where: Medical Pavilion
What: Adrienne just wants to go home, but Zach convinces her otherwise.

"I don't see why I can't go home." Adrienne's voice was echoing through the long corridor in the Medical Pavilion as she tried to walk past a couple of nurses who were blocking her.

"Miss Conté, it has been recommended that you remain here for another night for observation. It would be best for you to return to your room."

"But I feel fine," Adrienne whined. Though the lycanthrope came into the facility in pretty bad shape that wasn't the case now. Couldn't they see that she was fine? Adrienne was fully healed thanks to Theora who had been called in due to the severity of her injuries. Thinking about the situation caused Adrienne's stomach to twist in knots. Had she ever been that badly hurt before? The attack that made her a werewolf wasn't that severe though she wondered if it could have been if her attacker wasn't interrupted.

She shook the thoughts from her mind just as the nurses began to lead her back to her room. Adrienne squirmed in their grasp trying desperately to free her arms from their hands. "C'mon you guys," she pleaded. "I just want to go for a walk." Adrienne didn't like being restrained like a child, or some sort of crazy person who couldn't take care of herself. Coupled with the fact that she was still in a hospital gown, and wriggling around left and right she probably did look crazy.

Who: Victoria and OPEN
When: Afternoon
Where: Fresh Food Pavilion/Around the area
What: Victoria simply insults..and walks away

Victoria preferred to feel the discomfort of warmth over the uncomfortable feeling of being stiff and frigid when outdoors. Though this day seemed to be a bit warmer than the previous days, she still wore a heavy black jacket with a scarf on and even a pair of gloves. She at least took off the scarf and gloves after a while. She guessed it was a good thing because she could toy with her scarf and pay less attention to the other people traveling to the Market. It somehow made her look occupied.

Victor was usually responsible for certain places since his social-or rather tolerance skills were better and Victoria was responsible for the other places because her intelligence level simply overlapped his.

She sighed when she saw that the Fresh Food Pavilion was busy. Victoria didn't like to be around a bundle of people checking the food she was looking for, so she not so patiently awaited for them to clear the area. When they finally left she loaded up some potatoes, tomatoes, cantaloupe and apples in a bag. It was then she felt an on and off sense of heat on the back of her neck. Was someone reaching over her and breathing on her? Disgusting.

"If you could move your nostrils in another direction, that would be fantastic."

Luckily she was done a few seconds later and with a giant sound of disgust she used her scarf to wipe her neck as if the person had some sort of disease. She even tossed it in a nearby trash bin afterwards.

Who: Zach and Yola
When: Early Afternoon
Where: Yola's Cottage
What: Zach needs a friend.

Zach walked down the path to Yola’s house, his eyes staring at the ground more than they were paying attention to his surroundings. His feet trudged along almost unwillingly as if they didn’t really want to be taking him anywhere. He looked like a ghost, or a zombie, whatever you wanted to call it. The news about Adrienne last night had thrown his entire world off-balance, and despite seeing her wake up this morning and talking to her, Zach’s mood hadn’t picked up since he left the medical pavilion and headed for Yolanda’s house.

Hayate was in jail, Adrienne was lying in the hospital, and Zach was supposed to have his grandmother turn him into his uncle’s alchemist any day now. There was too much being thrown his way all of a sudden, and Zach wanted to just sit down and bury his face in his hands. It wasn’t that he couldn’t hold himself together; it was just that, for so long, he hadn’t needed to. He had been doing just fine. Today, however, the steadiness of his world had been challenged.

He needed a friend, someone to talk to about everything going on lately. He had already spilled what he could to Nico, but sympathy wasn’t something guys often shared with each other. Zach went to the next best person he knew: His friend, Yola.

When he arrived at her door, he finally lifted his head and knocked. Zach bit his lip and hoped she was home.

Who: Adela - Open!
When: Early in the morning
Where: Just outside the Magical Supplies Shop
What: Opening up shop

Truth be told, Adela was very much a morning person and a night person at the same time. She was one of those weird people who could get up with the sun and be as right as rain even if she was secretly feeling groggy from having little sleep the night before. Though perhaps she wasn't as perky on those days, she was at least still pleasant and functional. It had been one of those nights however where she hadn't gotten much sleep at all. And it wasn't even that she was out partying or having a good time, it was just that she kept having stupid bad dreams.

Mostly about her father dying, though in the dreams it wasn't him dying like he had. It was him dying from the virus. Though that was silly since he hadn't been human any more than she was. Still on two different occasions she woke up with a start and found it difficult to get back to sleep. And now on her way to work, she was trying to get herself psyched up for another day after all it was New Years Eve and if she had a wish, it would be that there was a party maybe. One she'd be invited to. When she got there, she opened up the door and let herself in. After getting herself nearly ready for the day, she opened the doors for business.

However she didn't stay inside the store, she thought today might be a good day to try and reach the little bits of snow that were still covering the sign from the last snow fall. It hadn't melted and was covering most of it but it had been just too cold for her to try. Today though she'd brave it. She put on some nice woolen mittens and got out the stool and climbed up so that she could reach. After brushing about half the snow off, the all too common happened.

She started to wobble. And when Adela started to wobble, it was more than likely she was going to fall down.

bloodisthicker
Who: Yolanda & Sheldon
When: Evening
Where: Wine Bar
What: Post-Practice Booze

"Where's SEPTA when you need it?" the vampire muttered under her breath as she wandered the forested path that lead back to Helicharis.  The walk didn't seem so long when she was headed to the Enclave.  That was probably because she was so excited on the way that she didn't even think about it.  Even once there, she'd lost track of time, playing for hours before a glance out the window brought her back to reality.

Yolanda glanced up at the darkening sky, trying to figure out what time it was.  It didn't work, not like a watch would.  All she knew was that dusk was coming soon, and she'd known that before she checked.  It wasn't even a vampire thing, though she obviously payed more attention to that sort of thing since she changed.  Idly, Yolanda wondered what Greg would think of the fact that she was starting to pay less attention to those details.  He'd probably tell her it was irresponsible and dangerous to forget her vampire limitations or something.  Like she could forget.  She frowned, and focused on the walk, rather than having a hypothetical argument with her so-called-sire while he wasn't even there.

By the time she got back to town, the last sliver of sun was ducking behind the horizon.  This, to Yolanda, pretty much meant party time.  Not wanting to waste time dropping off her stuff back at the cottage, she changed course, heading directly to the wine bar with her canvas gig bag in tow.  She walked through the door, all her irritation was washed away by the bustle of the crowd, and the live music that filled her ears.  It wasn't Henrietta Hudson, but the music was good, and the drinks were free. How could you go wrong?

Yolanda took a seat at one of the stools, removing her scarf and tossing it onto the bar in front of her as she did so.  She shot a friendly smile and a wave at the bartender, certain she'd seen him working here before.  She couldn't remember his name for the life of her though, which meant it was a pretty safe bet that they had never really talked before.  At least, she hoped that's what it meant.  If it turned out she'd forgotten, well, that would be embarrassing.  She was normally better at that sort of thing. "Got anything strong?" she asked with a grin.

Who: Logan, Mitsuko and Zach
When: Night, after Logan brings Adrienne to the Medical Pavilion
Where: Mitsuko and Logan's place, then Zach's place
What: Bringing the terrible news

Once Adrienne was safely in the hands of the doctors, Logan slipped out of the Medical Pavilion silently. Everyone was in such a rush to take care of the badly injured girl, they hadn't noticed the bloodstained boy that had brought her in leave.

Where everything had been a panicked rush in trying to get Adrienne there, the world seemed to have slowed down now. His body felt heavy-- so very heavy. Each step home felt labored. He could feel the blood drying on his hands-- and his face. When he'd cradled his head, the blood-- Adrienne's blood-- had clung to his flesh.

Reaching home seemed to take forever-- when really, not much time had passed at all. He pushed open the door and went into the living room. He knelt down beside the couch, where the snow-coloured fox slumbered.

It's Adrienne )

They arrived at Zach's. Logan raised his hand to knock on the door, but he hesitated. Could he really do this? Could he tell his friend-- one of his best friends-- his girlfriend had been attacked by what looked like a wild animal?

He had to. Finally, he rapped his knuckles against the door and waited for what seemed like eternity for someone to answer. He wasn't completely certain what he would say, but he was certain he face spoke volumes as it was. Something bad had happened.

Who: Chris, Charlie, Hayate, and Adam
When: Afternoon
Where: Town Hall Dungeon
What: Flaring tempers have a tendency to burn innocent bystanders

Chris's days had been spent in the dungeons as of late. A cold, and dank place that smelled musty, and was not at all pleasant. It wasn't where the girl would have normally spent her time, but it was where Hayate was being held. Being held unfairly, if anyone asked Chris, which no one did but she gave her opinion to them anyway. She'd told anyone she encountered, and often gave nasty looks to the guards that were watching Hayate. In the beginning they had tried to stop her from getting too close to the "criminal", but she had thrown such a fit that they all eventually learned to let her pass. The girl was crazy, they would whisper, but Chris didn't care. She just wanted to be near Hayate.

He seemed lonely behind the bars, and Chris wished so hard that she could give him a hug, or something. The most she could manage was to interlace her fingers, her arms the only thing that spanned the distance between them.

"Are you hungry yet? I'm gonna go to the blood bank, kay? Bring you some 'A negative'? Or do you feel like something different today?" Chris smiled a little mischievously at the vampire. It was her attempt at a joke to try to cheer him up since she couldn't do anything else.

Being behind bars doesn't necessarily mean you're safe. )

Who: Adrienne and Danté
When: A little past midnight
Where: A path toward the freshwater lake
What: Danté follows through on a threat

The full moon was waning, and despite the chill in the air it was enough to make Adrienne go out for a walk. It was a beautiful night; blissfully quiet, and peaceful. Adrienne felt as if she were in a wonderland, something that wasn’t too far off from the reality of Elysium. There were times the lycanthrope still couldn’t believe that the haven was real even though she had been there for almost a year. She took a deep breath, and felt the clean air filling her lungs completely. Was the air ever this fresh in Chicago?

Her feet took her toward the freshwater lake, and though it wasn’t her intended destination (she really wasn’t headed anywhere in particular) she didn’t mind it at all. Adrienne was reminded of Lake Michigan every time she went there, and it always brought back good memories.

But that wouldn’t be the case tonight.

Bad memories were just around the corner, and they would rear their ugly head sooner than Adrienne ever expected.

If I can't have you, no one can. )

lokithemuse
Who: Loki [Narrative]
When: Evening
Where: Atlantic Ocean
What: Sailing through a storm . . .

Loki felt the change on the wind before all of the other crew. A storm was brewing on the horizon, and he noticed the change of air while the sun still shone bright in the sky. A few hours passed, and the clouds rolled in along with the darkness they brought, casting the ocean in a veil of grey.

Luckily, he had warned them all in advance of the storm. The crew was able to make the proper arrangements for the weather, but it didn’t make the execution of sailing through the storm any easier. The wind picked up first until it wanted to blow the whole ship over, and then rain poured down from the sky as waves crashed into the side of the sea-bound vessel.

“Hold onto ya knickers, lads!” Loki exclaimed joyfully. He was soaked to the core and cold, but he had survived plenty of times at sea in this condition. This time wasn’t going to be any worse. “We’ve got a nasty one ahead, don’t we!” Some of the crew members didn’t think laughing at it was apparently all that good, but Loki knew not to piss off Mother Nature. He just wasn’t going to worry about a storm at sea. “We’ll do just fine as long as we keep steady! Don’t panic, and let your hands do the talkin’!”

When he noticed one of the crew members nicknamed ‘Lumberjack’ scurrying to hide in the hull, he pointed out to the man and yelled at him. “Get back in your position, Lumberjack! Or I’ll throw you overboard meself!” It was all the encouragement Lumberjack needed to get back into his place on deck.

“Keep steady!” Loki hollered out over the wind and rain. “We’ve just started! We can’t quit now! Put your backs into it!

They had sixteen more days before they reached the Bahamas — if the Atlantic Ocean didn’t take them down to its murky depths first.

Who: Zach, Lucinda, and Hayate [Narrative]
When: Morning
Where: Town Hall’s dungeon.
What: The Kitano family is pissed off.

With everything going on lately in his private life, Zach couldn’t figure out if it was his own fault or someone else’s that he hadn’t found out about Hayate’s arrest until today. Well, he heard about an arrest that happened the evening before on Sunday, but it didn’t cross his mind that it could have possibly been Hayate and no name was mentioned. Just an arrest. Zach didn’t even hear the charges because apparently there weren’t any official ones yet.

Now, it was Tuesday morning and his great uncle and friend, Hayate, was the one locked up. He immediately told his parents about it, and they all decided to go to Town Hall together to see Hayate. Kelsey demanded to know what was going on, which caused quite a ruckus with the guards. Meanwhile, Zach and Lucinda headed to the dungeon to speak with Hayate themselves.

It was dark in the dungeon, and the air was cold and wet. Zach wrapped his arms around himself and walked the length of the corridor to the only occupied cell down there. It was guarded by two Elven guards. Inside was Hayate. Before Zach could speak, his mother beat him to it.

“Oh my god,” Lucinda said, bringing her hand to her mouth. )

Who: Jake, Aveira and Marcus
When: Late Afternoon
Where: Blacksmith and Weaponsmiths Shop
What: Jake and Aveira duke it out and poor Marcus gets stuck in the crossfire

Jake usually got in after Aveira did. She was an early riser and she was a bitchy one at that. Not to mention bossy. He kind of liked the bossy part, but the bitchy part he could do without. Maybe he could do a little sing-song in her honor and she would chill the hell out and stop trying to wear the pants on who did what in the shop. Jake knew what he was doing. The Siren didn't need a chick barking orders at him every five minutes. Now, if the circumstances were different, that was his kind of girl.

He hated how the place was arranged. It was too neat and department store looking for him. Not to mention, seriously? He hadn't seen a little bastard come into the shop in at the least a few weeks. So, since the bitchy little blood sucker wasn't around he started to toss the wooden swords in the outside trash. Why did she even make those things? One, they looked like stakes used to kill vampires and two she didn't reek of "I love children".

When he was finished dumping all of her crappy kiddish shit outside, he closed the door and went back to doing his own work. Making real weapons and items that people could use.

"How's that for pants wearing?" He grumbled.

Of course, he had no idea she partly saw the part where he was throwing her useless shit out the back door. At least he wouldn't have to make up some sort of half assed story.

Who: Travis, Leon and OPEN
When: Late Night (Travis is weird)
Where: Town Hall Archives
What: Travis wakes up Leon to have a peak at the information on Hayate.

"Dude. Isn't this pretty cool? I mean, it's not cool that some psycho killed more than enough people." The fire mage tossed a brow over. "Well, I think he's guilty. But I am not letting that get in the way of what everyone else thinks. You know me, I'm a very open guy." Travis almost gave a quick batting of the lashes before he continued. "But when I got the letter, I was expecting it to self destruct in about thirty seconds. I mean, I don't think this place has enough technology to do such a thing, but this is serious business." Childish. That was him about now. However, once he got to the Town Hall, his demeanor would change. Travis probably had an automatic switch somewhere on his body. If Scarlet showed up, maybe he'd ask her to find it.

Travis put out his cigarette and looked on over to Leon. The poor guy was near sleep walking. "Jesus. Lighten up. No one goes to bed at ten anymore unless they are under the age of ten. Besides, I feel much cooler doing this at night because it almost feels illegal." Juivellie, that explained him sometimes too.

When they got to the Town Hall, Travis had to hit Leon on the back of the head to prevent him from stalling then silently went towards the archives. Travis felt like a VIP went there was no one stopping him and his sleepy friend on his way to the archives.

Once inside, door closed he began to get out the information in Hayate.

"Aliright Hayate Ishi-blah bah. Let's get a look on what information the archive has on you."

It was just him and Leon currently, but who knew. Perhaps more of his fellow Vice Council members would show up. Maybe one member thought they would be able to look at the archive in peace and..well that idea made the most sense to Travis.

OOC: Just an idea I had for a late night meeting! Leon has to reply then feel free to jump in! Come on, you know you want to!

What: Letter dispatched to Vice-Council members

Elysium's first election had gone better than the Head Council had hoped for, and now they had six more officials to help run the entire haven. It wasn't that the Head Council couldn't handle the responsibility or the work, but the incorporation of a Vice-Council allowed for there to be representatives for the citizens. It was a chance for the citizens to be involved in their community instead of just living in it.

Choosing to hold Vice-Council elections was a very good decision, and those who had been voted into the positions were among the very best. It was their combined experience along with their intelligence that prompted the Head Council's decision to hand over the issue with the vampire to them. He had been charged with the abduction, and torture of a therianthrope, and he had been linked to the deaths of Kaiya Sato and Faye Capricia. Responsibility over such a high-profile case would certainly test the mettle of the new Vice-Council.

A letter was drawn up for each member, and hand-delivered in the morning.

Who: Dante, Zach, Nico
When: Afternoon
Where: Around the cottages
What: It's not smart pissing off a werewolf

He had been watching Zach ever since their last confrontation. The alchemist's activities were of particular interest to the lycanthrope since they involved Adrienne. Adrienne was his only concern. She was the goal, the only thing that mattered in this situation. Dante had been waiting for Zach to follow through with their agreement, but so far he hadn't seen a sign of it. Day in and day out Dante watched, and waited for the alchemist to break up with Adrienne; but all he saw was the two of them growing closer. This wasn't how it was supposed to work; this was all wrong.

Zach hadn't broken up with Adrienne, and it was obvious that he hadn't taken Dante's threat seriously. It was an annoyance that grated Dante like nails on a chalkboard, and all he could do now was deliver the message again. It was a waste of time, time that he could be spending watching Adrienne, being with Adrienne. Adrienne, Adrienne - she was the only thing on his mind right now. He could have been with her now if Zach had followed through, but the little chicken shit decided to grow a pair and defy him. He'd learn that that was a mistake.

He stalked the two boys for a few minutes until he emerged from some nearby bushes like a bat out of hell. Dante went straight for Zach, and grabbed the boy by the collar. "I thought I told you to stay away from her!" He pushed Zach away from Nico violently. "Listen here, boy, she's mine and you don't belong near her. Got it?" He pointed his finger toward him in a menacing manner, ignoring Nico all the while. He didn't care about the other man, though maybe he should have considered the fact that a witness was not something he should overlook.
