Community Rules
Ok, so, what can I post here?
Posts made within the community should be original writing which must be your own work, and should fit the word count constraints outlined in the userinfo. That's exactly 100 words long, with a title of no more than an additional 10 words. If you've written something of exactly 200 words (a double drabble), you can post a link to it here.
If you want to post more than one drabble at a time, please put them in one post rather than making multiple posts, and use an lj-cut.
What can my drabble be about?
It's probably easier to start with what you can't write about, which is anything related to a fandom. Got something to post about your favourite TV show, book, film, band, sports team or the like? There's probably a community for it already. If there isn't, start one.
You can post anything on any other topic within reason, fiction or non-fiction. What one person considers reasonable is not necessarily ok by another, so I'll define what definitely isn't reasonable as anything that is racist, sexist or homophobic, that incites religious hatred or that is libellous to specific named persons. Likewise, please steer clear of insulting generalisations based on age, physical appearance, nationality or disabilities. If you want to post stuff like that do it on your own journal.
If you post anything violent or sexually explicit, please be aware that not everyone wants to see adult content, use a cut tag and include an appropriate warning as to the content outside the cut or in the cut text. As a guide to the sort of things that need warnings, anything that would attract an R or NC-17 rating in cinema (15 or 18 certificate in the UK) should definitely be behind a cut. If you're not sure how to do an lj cut, look here. Anyone capable of creating an account on IJ should be capable of using a cut tag. Please do not flounce or make excuses about this.
If you want to post a picture to go with your drabble, please put it behind a cut or link to it. Violent or sexually explicit stuff should be kept within the law and preceeded by a suitable warning outside the cut or in the cut text. Remember that your icon can't be hidden behind a cut, so if it's not suitable for general viewing, don't use it.
Is this a challenge community? Does my drabble have to be about one of the prompts you've posted?
No, it's not a challenge community. There are no deadlines for prompts, so you can use old ones any time you like. Once I've posted a few prompts I'll make a post that lists them all. You can use one of them, more than one, or you can write about something completely different that doesn't relate to any of the prompts at all.
Can I comment on other people's work?
Most people really appreciate comments. It's nice to know someone out there is reading what you posted. It's especially nice to know if they enjoyed it. You are also encouraged to comment with constructive criticism, but commenting with deliberate intent to hurt or upset someone (flaming) is not allowed. By all means correct someone's punctuation or grammar, or tell them what didn't work for you, but do it politely and do not make it personal.
Likewise, if somebody gives you constructive criticism, please try to accept it as it's meant.
What should I do if I want to complain about a comment or post?
You should email gonewithoutjam at yahoo dot co dot uk, with a link to the post or comment you're not happy about. You should not start a comment war or make a post in this community to complain about it. Either action is childish and undignified, and will not do anything whatsoever to improve matters.
Please make sure your email address or some other form of contact is clearly visible in your userinfo, that way I can contact you if necessary. I'd like to keep the lecturing on the actual community to a minimum.
What if I have a suggestion or comment or want to affiliate?
Please email gonewithoutjam at yahoo dot co dot uk. Don't post on the community. Starting an off-topic post with 'I know this is off topic but...' or something similar only shows you've read the rules but still think you're important enough to ignore them.
