WHO: Vi and Tay WHEN: April 13th, Evening WHERE: Restaurant in town and then Mystic Veil Infirmary WHAT: An attempt to take care of a problem takes care of the wrong problem
It had been a wonderful dinner. Vi was more than elated that as her first trimester was coming to an end, so was the nausea that had plagued her for damn near the entirety of the last three months. Her appetite was back, and even more intense than she'd ever imagined it could be, so nights like this were no longer a point of dread. Her energy was still less than it had been before she'd gotten pregnant, but at least she didn't need constant naps. More like every few days, really. All in all, she felt good, and was even pleased at the continued development of her body. She thought pregnancy suited her, which was an odd thing to think, and she was quite happy.
She loved that it was finally starting to get warmer, not that it was ever really cold in California but it did get colder during certain months, and had chosen a simple black dress for dinner as a result. The black made the bump look both less pronounced and more so at the same time, and she found herself rather proud that you could tell more now. It wasn't a feeling she thought she'd have, but there it was. Her hand was in Tay's as they moved away from the restaurant, and she had begged him to walk with her to the ice cream shop before they went back to the car so they could head back to school. "Will you judge me if I get the largest size with all the toppings they can put on one order?" she asked, though her expression was playful. She knew Tay would never judge her for anything, not really, and he was probably just glad that she was eating now. Though Vi still made sure she wasn't eating only the bad stuff she was craving.
Before he could really answer, she heard the sound of squealing tires from way too close considering they were in the process of crossing the street. Vi was sure they'd looked before they stepped out, and it wasn't like they were lingering, though their steps were probably slower than an impatient driver would want. When she turned her head, however, she gasped at the sight of a black sedan heading straight for them at what seemed an impossible speed considering they weren't on an open highway but in a busy downtown area. Vi noticed the car was slightly angled, and since she'd stepped away from her fiance in a playful twirl as they walked, it was definitely headed for him. She couldn't make out the driver, as they were wearing sunglasses and dark clothing, but they definitely seemed focused on the road ahead of them. Which meant it wasn't a case of 'oops, was busy checking my phone'.
Without really stopping to think Vi cried out, though the sound was some mixture of warning and Tay's name mingled with the fear that was suddenly enveloping her entire body. She reached out and shoved Tay with all of her strength, adding a small spell to make him fly further just in case. There was no time to change direction once he was out of the way, as the car was so close she could smell the burnt rubber from the tires skidding across the pavement. A scream left her as the car slammed into her, causing her to crash up onto the hood with a sickening sound before rolling onto the top of the car and off onto the pavement. There was blood, lots of it, though most of it was on the car and possibly the area around where she'd been hit in addition to Vi herself. Her body was face down on the pavement, unmoving, with one arm twisted so that it looked like it would if she had been laying on her back. The car sped off with another squeal of tires, and people began to shout in panic as the street seemed to unfreeze from its collective horror.
