No True Pair May/June Prompt List!
Thanks to karanguni , laylah , and eliade's list of kinks for assistance with compiling these prompts. Any questions, please feel free to comment here. As per last round, there will be another post for us all to get excited about some of the opportunities generated. I'm excited already. :D

The guidelines:
- pay no attention to pairing order in the prompts. If you get something more interesting by flipping the roles around, please feel free!
- liberal interpretations of the prompts are highly welcomed. :)
- the numbers in the prompt list have been stripped except for the character numbers themselves. You can copy and paste the list into your word processor, and then find/replace to put your characters' names in to the right spots.

(sheepish question from a non-pr0n writer...)

So if the number of times you've actually written detailed sex scenes in your entire life can be counted on the fingers of one hand and have leftovers, is it OK if we just finish and post some of the fics from previous rounds instead?

I suspect I'm in the minority here, but I really appreciated the previous rounds' ability to range anywhere from 'friendship/rivalry/gen interaction' all the way through 'explicit mature rating here'. In contrast, this round is so specifically sex-focused that I think there are about 3 prompts that I could actually do anything with....

	W-well, the theme for this round was "kinks"? Not to say that everyone should be writing explicit kink porn, but that's what this particular round was stated to be for. Not that that answers your question about finishing things from previous rounds, but. ^^; (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

^^;;; I'd thought that 'kinks' didn't have to say 'sex' when I saw the theme, only then the particular prompts did say 'sex' more than I was expecting?

I mean, things like 'boots' or 'gloves' or 'riding gear' or 'velvet' or 'leather' all count as kinks, but they don't specifically have to be a sex-prompt the way these did.

So that's why I was kind of taken off guard -- I'd thought that even with a kink-theme there'd likely be a good proportion of things I could work with this round. Only it turns out the round was specifically designed to be sex. Which is cool for people who can write sex! I'm just not one of those people, so that pretty much means I can't really participate in this round, which is a personal bummer because this had been my favorite IJ community to write for.

Take this with a grain of salt, since I have been so MIA and leaving the work to Nyx and K lately, but --

The reason I chose the kinks/porn theme for this round was because it felt like so many existing challenges, even ones that nominally began as a place to showcase that kind of thing (springKINK, KINKfest, etc), had become really anything-goes on that front, and a lot of the prompts didn't cater to kink anymore at all. And I missed it. It wasn't intended to be something that happened in every round here, but I was hoping we could do it for one round, at least, and get some concentrated smut in here. I knew it would probably not be everyone's cup of tea, but I did really want a chance to focus on the porn for once.

None of which answers the continuing-from-previous-rounds question, but I think I will leave that to the people who are currently handling the admin work, because it's really up to them whether they'd find that good chaos or bad. ^^;

That's perfectly cool! Now that you explain it I see where the selection emphasis was coming from. And since you're doing it specifically to focus on the porn, it's good to know that was a deliberate choice.

Sure, I'm personally disappointed that I can't really participate in this round, since this had been my favorite IJ comm to write for. But in a way it feels better to know that genfic is being selected-against deliberately (i.e. picking these kinks specifically for sex) rather than accidentally (i.e. all kinks were eligible but the only ones chosen happened to be for sex)?

(And the notion that it might not be all-sex-prompts for all future rounds is kind of reassuring to me too... I really would like to write for future rounds, unless the community focus is going to be redefined as 'specifically for sex' from here on out, in which case I'll figure out how to deal when we see the next set of prompts...)

I would certainly hope it wouldn't be all-porn for all rounds! That wasn't what this challenge was created for (though I suspect that I might wind up creating something else that is designed for pure porn, one of these days).

Owning where I'm coming from: I came to fandom from the kink (that is, BDSM) community, so I already had a lot of strong associations with the word when I started writing fanfic in the first place. I tend to expect "kink" to mean not only "sex" but "sex plus power/toys/ritual." I have never, never gotten used to the way parts of fandom use the word "kink" to be interchangeable with "theme" or "prompt." So I'm sorry if that wasn't clear enough beforehand.

aha! (lightbulb goes on.) I've never been a BDSM person, so I didn't know the difference in emphasis there - I'm coming at it from fandom (and specifically from anime fandom, which has its own subdialects), so I was thinking of 'kinks' as 'things or activities that people fetishize'/'things or activities that have sexual associations' as opposed to 'sex plus particular variations.'

I did realize it was kink, so I was expecting prompts with more overtly sensual associations than the previous rounds - like, for example, I wouldn't have been surprised to see 'leather', or 'licking,' or 'gloves,' or 'authority.' (Whereas I'd imagine 'frolicking in the flowers with puppies and rainbows' is kind of the antithesis of kink.) I just hadn't realized that sex was an explicit rather than implicit part of the definition, if that distinction makes sense?

Thanks for letting me ramble at you - it's fascinating to see how people use the same terms in different ways.

(Since I've entered fandom, it's always struck me as wildly startling that my brother's best friend talks about properly-done rimming in mixed society on a regular basis. I have to keep reminding myself that he's an alcohol salesman whose clientele is made up of bar owners, not bar patrons, and that the definition I've picked up off the Internet is not the definition he's using on the job!)

Nyx is really the one doing 0TP, and I'm just the monkey who flails around and makes strange noises, but:

I'm not a huge porn writer myself, but I'm trying to take the prompts that I like from this lot that I can write with and around and heading them off at R-or-less, more as a sort of challenge to myself than anything else. It's waaaaaaaaaaay more difficult than how the last few rounds were - the focus is definitely on the sexings! - but I'mma gonna try. *g*

As for stuff from the last round, I'm sure Nyx will say something profound and amazing soon. \o/

I can see one, maybe two, each week that I think might be cut-off-before-R-able and I suspect it's going to take a lot of creative fade-to-black-ing to do that with any of the others. ^____^ Any time someone says 'hey something cool happened offscreen,' I immediately start wondering about stealth cameras and omake scenes. Or the author's DVD commentary track to go with a fic. Heeeee.

...I'm now imagining Reno helpfully volunteering to lay enough bugs to capture all that 'offscreen' footage in the Interests of Company Security! Of course, the ensuing mayhem and bloodshed makes a pretty good action scene all by itself...

And I tried so hard for an equal quantity of ambiguous scenario!kink with porn. Oh well. ^.^

Having read your other responses with regards to the kink = porn, seeing as no true pair is very writer-oriented rather than a requester-writer relationship as in Springkink or Kinkfest, please feel completely free to interpret these as liberally as you need to. I know that about half of my prompts will end up being power-focused scenarios rather than explicit porn in-and-out-and-in descriptions - even mutual masturbation could be read as, eg, a Rufus and Lazard mutual ego-stroking, if you had to. :) But maybe in the next discussion post you might get some ideas as to how to negotiate kink without necessarily meaning sex?

With regards to your other question, there will be an open-posting couple of weeks from the end of June up to July where all unposted prompts can be posted, so you're more than welcome to do so with the previous round then.

Would it be completely horrible and out of line to ask to swap one character with... well.. pretty much any other one character? I'd like to swap Zack with Cloud, but I'd settle for swapping Yuna with pretty much anyone. I really wanted to write Cloud/Yuna, but I don't think I can write necrophilia, and that's what I rolled for them.

Well... I suppose if being an "unsent" counts I could try that...

Sorry for annoying newbie question. ^^; And if the answer is 'no', I'll just try again for something for them next time. =)

Hehe, I've been struggling with this same question myself. If I could just swap Brahne out and put in Red XIII I could get Nanaki into bed with Ashe...

But, mod-wise and as a first-time participant, I think I have to say a definite no. While I can completely sympathise, swapping #2 Person with #4 person could end up becoming swapping in another person entirely, and so on and on until the 0TP concept basically becomes writing your own prompt.

Part of the magic is trying to make prompts work - and I love the idea of a Cloud/Yuna based around necrophilia. Perhaps they are both in love with the idea of death? Perhaps Cloud is so threatened by competent women that Yuna has to pretend to be dead to let him be dominant? Or vice versa?!

	Ah, I see, you mean to actually get the double penetration happening without recourse to a toolkit? :) Yep, non-list characters are more than ok in such circumstances. Hmm, I'm eyeing the list and finding I don't know the meaning of several terms (I didn't know I was this innocent!), or the pairings don't ping me, or I end up thinking of funny situations instead of sexual - but there's a particular promp that involves two characters I ship like hell in a situation that could happen in canon... except it's "transformation into a furry being". One of the characters already transforms into something inhuman - can I scratch the furry part?

Kink is often a difficult one because it's so specific to the person. Still, sex can be awkward and funny as well as hot and lascivious, so if the prompt is inspiring funny situations, please feel free to write and post those. As long as you're enjoying it, someone else will too?

And as per your other comment post, you can keep the transformation kink and nix the furry (and I imagine there will be other people who want to keep the furry kink and nix the transformation too). So yes on that one.

Okay, I've got issue with one prompt from each of my lists.

From my first list Cloud and brangwen are in a marriage of convenience, but the idea this prompt gives me is of Brangwen explaining to Elena (also from my list) what she gets out of the marriage.

From my second list, the only way I can see Jasmine and Armand double penetration working is if a third character from the list, Antoinette, is also there.

Can I do this, or should I just write the first fic as something outside this challenge?

Two of my prompts beg for an evil combination and I want to make sure it's okay. I submitted two character lists and received this very lucky draw for one of the prompts:

Vayne and Dr. Cid: aphrodisiacs/pollen/aliens made them do it
Ashe and Balthier: aphrodisiacs/pollen/aliens made them do it

THIS SO WANTS TO BE ONE STORY. Umm... Is that okay? (The story will keep the Vayne&Cid more or less distinct from the Ashe&Balthier so isn't entirely a giant 4-some ~~5-some~~. ~~but it really wants to become a giant 5-some~~).

Does that mean list characters not named in the prompt are out of luck? In a few of my prompts, the two characters could have a very potent (and ugly) power-play conflict involving the kink *but* the driving motivation is sexual desire or an established relationship with a 3rd (or 4th) character who is not named in that prompt but who is on my list. Obviously, to keep in spirit of NoTruePair, that 3rd (or 4th) character won't play a major role beyond catalyzing the story's dramatic triangle. So, is it a problem if that 3rd character is named on the list?

Not a problem at all, feel free to add in the third character even if they are on the list. I've noticed in past 0TPs that people will often reference other characters or involve other characters specifically for the dramatic purpose. I guess my only (general) concern is that other characters don't become a swap or a substitution, but the 0TP format definitely allows for flexibility with multiple character inclusion.

Yes! Just make sure all your headers are clear as addressing both the Cid/Venat & Ashe/Balthier prompts, which makes it easy for me to tag.
