If it had been a gift or a handout she would have said no flat out. Kitty was not now, nor had she ever been, the type of person who just took something without working for it. For as long as this idea had been floating around in her head it had seemed near impossible. There were loans she could apply for, even grants she'd found online for women who wanted to start their own business. But it was overwhelming and more than a little frustrating. Plus she was still paying off her student loans. Did she want another one to worry about on top of that if anyone even gave her one? Before deciding to go to Warren with her plan, she'd pretty much given up on the idea. Now she was being told it was not something she'd have to give up at all.
She took the papers and looked them over while Warren spoke, eyes moving but almost nothing sinking in but what he was saying. She'd need to reread all of this later. "An investment for you?" Kitty looked up and studied his serious expression. In the few seconds she'd had to think about it she'd managed to assume it would be a purchase under Worthington Industries. The way he said it made it sound like Warren used his own money. If that was the case...she was going to lose it soon. "I'll do whatever needs to be done. You know I will." Kitty was a hard worker when her mind was set on something. Now it would come to juggling this new responsibility while not shirking her duties here at the mansion. Well, time to see just how great of a multi-tasker she could be.
"Twenty-two," she repeated, doing the numbers in her head. She was paid for teaching and being the resident adviser, not a huge amount since she didn't have to worry about rent or bills beside her own cell phone. It would be tight, especially in the beginning, but she was sure she could make it work. It really was a generous offer and deal as Warren stated. And in four years it could hers, all out. The very idea took the words from her a second time. How could she ever thank him for this? With his business face on, she was able to keep it together enough to nod and whisper a thank you. When he went from Business Man back to her friend Warren, Kitty had to look down.
It was quickly becoming impossible not to cry. "I put a lot of work into it," she admitted with a tremulous voice. When June was brought up, she nodded again and swiped at the tears that now fell. With an unsteady laugh she asked, "Marry me?" She swallowed and looked back down, a hand resting over her heart for a minute. "I can't even begin to tell you how much this means to me." And she really couldn't. It had been a long while since Kitty let herself cry, January to be exact, and it had been building up. Poor Warren and his offer just happened to be enough to send her over the edge. She put the papers on the couch beside her and hid her face in her hands, knowing she was in good company, safe company that wouldn't judge her for shedding her control and being so vulnerable.
