"Try being around people who are younger than you." Xavier chuckled softly. "There is no quicker way to feel older than you are than to be surrounded by people half your age." Though Cadence didn't have Xavier's memories she'd certainly seen enough online in articles, interviews, and archived videos. The man lived in a school full of good looking children and adults that never seemed to age over thirty. It wasn't hard to imagine Xavier just looking at the sometimes and wondering how he got so old when the rest of them were left untouched by time.
When June turned around in her chair, Xavier's eyes lifted to follow the movement of her hand, then the elevation of the water. His brows rose slightly and there was a light in his gaze when she held the water above her palm. Her movements were slow and precise, speaking of intense training. When the water formed itself into ice before scattering on the ground, Xavier nodded his head. "You must have a teacher by the name of Bobby Drake." It was a bold guess and had this girl been any older and less willing to believe in what she was seeing, not one Cadence would have made so lightly. But if it led to any suspicion there would still be room to cover it over. Good to get the kinks out now before heading to the mansion anyway. "Oceane is a very pretty name."
June's revelation about what she'd been through registered genuine sympathy on Xavier's face. No child should ever have to feel abandoned by their parents. Neither should they have to have strangers raise them and take care of them. Sitting forward, he reached across the small table to rest his hand gently on her arm. "I am very sorry to hear that, June. But it sounds like you have been well taken care of at the mansion." He sat back again, taking a sip of his tea and smiling around the cup.
"I'm glad you like them." She was sweet, this little girl. It would be nice to have someone on the inside already on her side. She'd have Kurami and Georgie with her as well, at least that what her understanding, but June was an actual resident of Xavier's. If she walked in with Xavier beside her it would be a sweet moment.
As he set his mug down, Xavier looked tired. "I have not yet been because I think I am afraid." His eyes raised from the mug to June's face, his expression open. "It seems I have lost my abilities and much of my memory. There are basic things I remember like names and faces. Some moments but most of them are gone. There are powerful mutants out there, June, that would try to pretend to be me just to get inside the mansion. Without my powers I fear I will be looked on as one of those mutants and not truly as myself."
