"I don't know," Ororo answered honestly. "He seems like he's got a grip on himself but..." She trailed off with a quiet sigh. "The thing about Scott is that he keeps it close to the cuff. He always has. Sometimes I think the only reason Jean ever knew anything was wrong was because she could read his mind." It was going to take some getting used to, seeing Scott in the mansion. She'd thought him dead for seven years. Something like that can't just be changed in a person's mind. "I think he'll be all right after he talks to Emma. She'll be able to help him out."
As Kitty launched into her speech - something she'd clearly been thinking about for awhile - Ororo kept her face neutral so as not to give anything away. Someone like Logan would have been bale to pick up the amusement lying just under the surface, especially when Kitty mentioned the truck explosion incident. With her last thought tacked on it was no longer possible to remain expressionless. Ororo smirked. "That's quite the after thought, Kitty. Yes, I am aware Erik has gone. Lorna is with him. He said he could only do so much for her here and she expressed a keen interest in going with him." Recognizing the expression on Kitty's face, Ororo shrugged a shoulder. "She's old enough to make that decision and she wasn't here under any restrictions. It was her choice. Did I like seeing her go with him? No. But I will admit I'll be able to sleep a little easier at night knowing he is not inside the school."
As for Kitty's speech, that needed some consideration. "Listen, you don't have to try and sell yourself to me, Kitty. I know you well enough to know what a capable woman you are. And while I appreciate the thought you've put into this, I can't say that this is a decision I can make right now." Had this been anyone else, the conversation would have been a little different. The two women had always been close, Kitty more like a daughter to her than another student. As Kitty grew and matured, so did their relationship. Because of this, Ororo knew she could be honest.
"As soon as Laura is back we'll be having a meeting. By then I'll have my decision for you. Just know that if you're not the one I choose it is nothing personal. All right?" Smiling encouragingly, she reached across the distance between them to put a hand on Kitty's and give it a gentle squeeze. "I have a few more phone calls to make before dinner."
