Ororo listened to Scott's tale with an unreadable expression. Jean had been her best friend, the one person besides Charles himself that she felt she never had to hide anything from. There had always been some suspicion that there was something more powerful to Jean, especially in the days leading up to the battle with Stryker and his men at Alkali, but the extent of it was so much more than Ororo had been expecting. Jean could have killed Scott easily, there was no doubt about that. It was that she saved him, even in a round about way, that spoke of how much she had loved him.
"I'm almost thankful that you weren't around to see everything that happened afterward." It would be kinder for him to not have the memories of Jean's destruction. There was no avoiding his hearing about it, but the visual would be gone. The sight of Jean standing beside Magneto, her eyes no longer the eyes of her friend but that of a being driven by pure passion, was what woke Ororo up at night still. She made a face at the name he'd chosen for himself, shaking her head. The life this man had been forced to live these past several years was everything Scott was not. That could not have been sitting well with him.
"There's someone here who can help you. Do you remember Emma Frost?" Who could not remember Emma Frost. She and Ororo weren't exactly buddies, but the women had respect enough for each other that working together had not been a problem yet. "She's a little unorthodox and her bedside manner, such as it is, leaves a lot to be wanted. But she's good at what she does. After the attack she was the one to handle the police, the fire rescue, as well as the press. Without her things would have been a lot worse."
He wanted to know what had happened and seven years was a lot of time to cover. She tried to think of main points only and shook her head. "I know you heard about the cure before you left. A lot of mutants got it, Rogue included. Seven years later and it's wearing off, giving mutants back their powers tenfold. It's like the shot just blocked their abilities and let them store up so when they were able to be used again it was with enormous power. Since August, we've been busy helping everyone we can. Some are easier than others, as you can imagine. A lot of them don't want help." Here her business-like tone dropped, taking on a sadder note. "A lot of them would rather take their own lives than deal with what they were gifted with."
Kitty came in quietly then, taking a set that put the three of them in a triangular formation. Ororo looked at her and smiled slightly. "We've been getting through it, though. Kitty's been a big help, as have several others. And we have several promising students who keep things interesting." Her gaze fell on Scott once more. "Of course we want you to stay. You're part of the family, Scott. Get settled in, see Emma. If you need anything, anything at all, let me know. I'm going to be in here for most of the afternoon."
