Chapter 1

Marian and his son Deniz were both working at No. 7 when a handsome young man with short blonde hair, that neither had seen before, walked in. When Deniz looked up from cleaning the bar counter, he was struck in the heart; he felt like it was love at first sight. He also thought he recognized him from somewhere, and that everything around him was in slow motion. Marian walked over to the young man and introduced himself.

“Hello young man, I’m Marian. Over there by the bar is my son, Deniz. You seem lost,” said Marian to the stranger.

“Yes, hi, I’m Roman. I’m new in town; I just got here a few hours ago.”

Deniz swallowed hard.‘ Duh,’ he thought. That’s Roman Wild, the pair skater.

Deniz cleared his throat and Roman turned to see where the sound was coming from. He locked eyes with Deniz.

“You’re... You’re Roman Wild?” asked Deniz.

“Yeah I am,” said Roman, who walked over to the counter.

“I thought I recognized you,” said Deniz, a bit on the shy side.

“Are you a fan?” asked Roman.

“Fan of what?” Deniz’s dad asked as he walked over to his son.

“He’s a pair figure skater,” said Deniz to his father.

Deniz faced Roman and smiled.

“Yes I am a fan. You and Jennifer make a great pair.”

“Thanks,” said Roman to Deniz.

“You skate with Jennifer Steinkamp?” asked Marian.

“Yes she and I are partners on the ice. We’re here to train at the Steinkamp Centre. It’ll be my second time meeting her folks. I met them about two months ago when Jennifer and I did a show in the United States.”

“Oh cool,” said Deniz excitedly.

“So what do you do, Deniz?” asked Roman with a smile.

“I’m a model and a hockey player.”

“Cool, I’m a big fan of hockey. Maybe I’ll see a game sometime.”

“Great!” said Deniz excitedly.

“What can I get you to drink?” asked Marian.

“Oh nothing, I just came by since Jennifer said that I should stop and meet you both.”

“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Roman,” said Marian, his hand out for a handshake; Roman took it and shook hands.

“Nice to meet you, Roman,” said Deniz shyly.

“Um… here, take this, it’s on the house.” Deniz handed Roman a bottle of beer.

“Thanks.”

Roman took the beer from Deniz and their hands touched slightly.

“I’ll…I’ll see you around,” said Roman, trying to get out of there.

“Yeah, okay,” said Deniz.

Roman left the bar. He didn’t watch where he was going and bumped into Jennifer.

“Shit!” screamed Roman, as he spilt beer on himself.

“What happened in there?” asked Jennifer.

“Why didn’t you tell me that Deniz is drop dead gorgeous? Also that he’s a model and a hockey player? All my likes in a man.”

“Calm down, you’re drooling,” said Jennifer, almost laughing.

“No, I’m not,” said Roman.

Jennifer just smiled at him.

“Well?” asked Roman.

“First thing, I haven’t seen Deniz since he was 12.So don’t know what he looks like now and what he has been up to.”

“I bet even back then he was a hottie.”

“So he’s grown up well, I presume.”

“Oh yeah, I’d say. Go in there and see for yourself.” Roman pointed at No. 7.

“I just might,” said Jennifer as she walked over to No. 7, but not before kissing Roman on the cheek and saying her good-byes to him.

Jennifer walked into the bar and the bell ringed on the door. Marian turned to see who it was.

“Its Jennifer, Dad,” said Deniz.

“Jennifer Steinkamp?” asked Marian.

“It’s me,” said Jennifer.

“You look incredible,” said Marian.

“Thanks. You don’t look so bad either. Marian.”

“Thanks. Turns out my son over here is a big fan of yours.”

“Oh my God, is that little Deniz?” said Jennifer.

“Who you calling ’little?’” said Deniz with a smile.

“You really are a hottie,” said Jennifer.

“Who said that?” asked Deniz.

“Um, Roman did.”

Deniz blushed.

“I see you’re a fan of his, too.”

“Yeah, I am.”

“Why don’t you chill with us one night?” said Jennifer.

“I...I don’t know about that.”

“Why, what’s the matter?” asked Jennifer.

Deniz didn’t say anything.

“Oh, I get it. You like him as in you really like him as in more than a friend,” said Jennifer.

Deniz nodded his head.

“I see! Well, in that case, I’ll make sure to catch one of your games while I’m in town.”

“That would be great! Thanks, Jennifer.”

“Don’t sweat it, kid.”

“You’re still a looker,” said Marian.

“Always was, always will be. You’re looking good too,” said Jennifer

“Thanks. I just wanted to check up on you two; it was so great seeing you both.”

“Yes, same here,” said Marian as he and Jennifer hugged.

They ended the embrace. Jennifer walked over to Deniz and hugged him.

“See you both around.” Jennifer walked out the door.

“What was that all about?” asked Deniz as he walked over to his dad.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” said Marian.

“That exchange between you two. I saw something, I’m not blind.”

“Okay, okay, there used to be something between Jennifer and I,” said Marian.

“Yeah, and…?” asked Deniz.

“And nothing. She moved to the U.S. and that was that.”

“Sparks are still flying high, I see,” said Deniz.

“You think so?” asked Marian as he faced the door.

“Oh yeah, big time. So what gives, Dad?”

“Okay, it has to come out sometime. Years ago, Jennifer and I had a relationship. Once her parents found out about us, they told her to break it off with me or they would disown her. The next thing I know, we weren’t together anymore and she moved to the U.S.”

“I think there’s still some chemistry brewing between you two.”

“Thanks.”

Marian walked to one table and sat down. He placed his elbows on the table and ran his fingers through his hair.

Chapter 2

The following day, Roman walked into No. 7 and over to Deniz.

“Hey Roman, what can I get for you?” asked Deniz.

“Nothing really, I just wanted to know when you’re going to have a game.”

“Oh, I have one tomorrow at 1:00. Can you make it?” asked Deniz, calm even though he was jumping up and down in his mind with excitement.

“I’ll see what I can do,” said Roman.

Roman winked at Deniz and turned to leave. Deniz was thrown off guard by that wink and smiled widely.

Marian walked in to the Steinkamp Centre. Right away he saw Jennifer sitting at the bar near the pool area.

“Hi, Jenny,” said Marian, as he sat down next to her

“Hello, Marian.”

“I told Deniz about us.” said Marian.

“You did?” asked Jennifer in shock.

“Yeah, he saw us together last night and was wondering what was going on. I couldn’t lie to him.”

“I understand. I told Roman too.”

“I miss you Jennifer. I think about you all the time.”

“Come on, it was a long time ago.”

“Did you move on?” asked Marian.

“With someone else? No, I didn’t. You?”

“No, I haven’t either.”

“Did you want something?” asked Jennifer.

“Just to find you and tell you what I told Deniz,” said Marian.

“Okay, thanks.”

“See you around,” said Marian as he got up from his seat.

Roman walked over to the fry stand. He saw a woman with thick, curly, dark hair working there. Her head was down when Roman approached her.

“Hello, can I have a veggie dog and a cola?” said Roman.

The woman looked up slowly.

“Oh my god, you’re Roman Wild!” she squealed.

Roman smiled. “Yes, I am.”

“Ingo! Come over here!” she screamed.

“And you are…?” asked Roman.

“I’m Annette, and this is my husband, Ingo,” said Annette excitedly.

“Nice to meet you both,” said Roman with a smile.

“Hey Ingo, can you get a veggie dog and a cola for my new friend over here?” asked Annette.

“Sure,” said Ingo, not pleased.

“I’m a huge fan,” said Annette sweetly.

“Yeah, I kinda got that from your little squeal a minute ago”

“Sorry about that.”

“It’s ok. Are you a fan of Jennifer’s as well, since her parents own Steinkamp Centre?”

“I could care less about that bitch Jennifer,” said Annette.

“That’s a harsh word,” said Roman, taking a bite out of his hot dog.

“It’s true; she hurts people who try to get close to her.”

“She’s grown up”.

“She has only been kind and friendly towards me.”

“That might be because she sees money signs with you… no offence.”

“It’s ok.”

“To change the subject, I own this fry stand, and Ingo coaches the hockey team.”

“Oh, I met Deniz last night,” said Roman, and took a sip of his soda.

“Oh, Deniz is the best player on the team,” said Ingo.

“I’m going to try to make it to the game tomorrow,” said Roman.

“That’s great, it’s the finals. We’re hoping to win the cup this year. I think with Deniz on the team this year we might just have a chance at it.”

“He’s new on the team?” asked Roman in shock.

“Just moved back not too long ago. He doesn’t have many friends,” said Annette.

“Oh, I’m really surprised. He seems like a nice guy… and he’s easy on the eyes.”

“Oh, not you too,” said Annette.

“Not me what?” asked Roman.

“Gay,” whispered Annette.

“That I am!”

Roman turned around and saw Deniz walking over to the fry stand. It was if it was in slow motion and the song “Sexy Back” popped into his mind at that very moment.

“Hey Deniz,” said Ingo.

“Hey guys, Roman,” said Deniz sweetly.

“Hi,” said Roman softly, after taking a deep breath.

“Need anything?” Annette asked Deniz.

“A mixture of fifty sausages, ten of each. Thanks,” said Deniz.

“Sure,” said Annette.

“Deniz, I’ll be able to make it to your game tomorrow,” said Roman.

“Awesome! Thanks.”

“You’re welcome, I’d better go, I have to train,” Roman paid for his meal and couldn’t run away fast enough.

“That boy likes you,” said Annette.

“No,” said Deniz, not believing what Annette had just told him.

“He was just asking about you,” said Ingo.

“Really?” asked Deniz. They nodded their heads.

Deniz started to blush.

“You like him too,” said Annette, more a fact than a question.

“I plead the fifth,” said Deniz with a smile.

“Here are your sausages,” said Ingo, handing Deniz two bags of sausages.

“Thanks,” said Deniz. He paid for his father’s order and walked back to No.7.

Roman and Jennifer were practicing their routine on the ice, but neither one of them could concentrate.

“What’s going on?” asked Roman.

“Me? What about you?” asked Jennifer, pissed off.

“Sorry, been thinking about Deniz,” said Roman honestly.

“Same with Marian. I’m thinking about what he said to me earlier,” said Jennifer, sounding confused.

“Why don’t you ask Deniz out if you like him?” asked Jennifer, more relaxed.

“Fine, but you have to talk to Marian.”

“I’ll try.”

Roman and Jennifer worked a few minutes more before they saw the hockey team skate onto the ice. Roman looked for Deniz and spotted him.

Jennifer skated off the ice. Roman skated over to Deniz.

“Hi,” they said in unison.

Both laughed.

“I wanted to ask you something,” said Roman.

“What about?” asked Deniz.

“Um…about tomorrow night, after the game,” said Roman nervously.

“What about it?” asked Deniz.

“Do you have plans afterward?” asked Roman.

“No, why?”

“I was wondering if you’d like to have dinner with me,” said Roman shyly.

“You… you mean like a date?” asked Deniz in shock.

“Exactly like a date,” said Roman with a smile.

“I’d like that,” said Deniz smiling back.

“Good. See you tomorrow,” said Roman,

“Yeah see ya.”

Jennifer walked into No. 7 and thanked god that the person she wanted to speak with was there.

“Jennifer! What a surprise to see you twice in one day,” said Marian sarcastically.

“I would like to talk to you,” said Jennifer as she walked closer to Marian.

“What would you like to talk about that we haven’t already?’ asked Marian.

“That I’m truly sorry about everything. That I miss you and I miss what we meant to each other. It was good and it was real; I shouldn’t have left all those years ago, no matter what anyone said or did about our relationship.”

“You really hurt me. You were all I had when Deniz left to go back to his mother. I’m just so grateful to have Deniz back in my life,” said Marian,

“Did you mean what you said earlier? When you said you missed me and that you think about mw?” asked Jennifer. She cupped Marian’s cheek in her hand. Marian backed away from her.

“I did… but it doesn’t mean anything anymore.”

“To me it does. I want to work things out. I moved back into town on my own. I’ve grown up since then. No more Papa or Mama destroying our lives. I don’t care anymore. The only thing I know is that I’m sorry for everything and I’m still in love with you.”

“Are you serious?” asked Marian in shock.

Jennifer just nodded her head.

“Yes, very serious. I guess the question is, do you still love me?” asked Jennifer.

Marian walked over to Jennifer. He grabbed her by both of her arms, pulled her against his body and kissed her deeply and passionately on the lips. They held onto each other tightly in the middle of the bar. Marian stopped kissing Jennifer.

“Does that answer your question?” asked Marian, out of breath.

Jennifer couldn’t find her voice, so she just nodded.

After hockey practice, Deniz walked over to the fry stand.

“Why are you smiling like that?” Annette asked Deniz.

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” said Deniz, calm and collected.

“I don’t buy it. What gives?” asked Annette.

“Okay, okay. If you must know, Roman asked me out on a date tomorrow after the game.”

“Alright!” said Annette excitedly.

“I take it you approve?” asked Deniz.

“Hey, if he wasn’t gay, and I wasn’t married, and that fine young man asked me out? I would be all like, ‘hell yes!’” Both Annette and Deniz laughed.

Chapter 3

Deniz was so nervous about this hockey game because it brought up the fact that Roman would be there watching him play and later they would be together out on a date.

Deniz was pacing back and forth in the locker room with all his gear on.

“What’s up with you?” asked Ingo as he walked over to Deniz.

“I’m a nervous wreck,” said Deniz as he stopped pacing around.

“Why?” asked Ingo.

“Do you really have to ask me that?” asked Deniz, looking straight into Ingo’s eyes.

“Roman?” asked Ingo.

Deniz just nodded his head.

Roman was seated in the audience but he couldn’t sit still. He too was so a nervous wreck… but he was also excited.

Roman took a deep breath as he saw the Steinkamp team skate onto the ice. He cheered and clapped along with the rest of the crowd.

Deniz took a deep breath right before the game started. He felt more relaxed after talking to Ingo about the way he was feeling.

Roman couldn’t keep his eyes off Deniz. He was just so amazing to look at off or on the ice. Once or twice Roman noticed Ingo cheering on his team and Roman smiled at that.

By the end of the game, the Steinkamp team had won the trophy and everyone cheered on Deniz.

Roman walked over to Ingo and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Ingo, that was one hell of a game. I’ve never seen anything like it before,” said Roman, so excited.

“Thanks man that means a lot. They’ve trained so hard,” said Ingo before shaking Roman’s hand.

“We have the best players ever! Especially Deniz,” said Ingo.

With Deniz hearing his name, he skated over to Ingo.

Roman looked up directly in the eyes of Deniz. Roman swallowed hard.

“Hi,” said Roman shyly.

“Hi,” said Deniz, just as shy.

Ingo said his good-byes and walked away, leaving Roman and Deniz alone.

“That was incredible,” said Roman.

“Thanks,” said Deniz, not knowing what else to say to that.

“I was just telling Ingo, that was, like, the best hockey game I’ve ever had the privilege of witnessing,”

“I take it you’re a fan now?” asked Deniz with a shy smile.

“Of yours, most definitely,” said Roman,

“I should go get myself cleaned up and ready. I’ll meet you outside in a half an hour, tops,” said Deniz.

“Yeah, sure.”

Roman watched as Deniz walked away with his skates still on.

By the time Deniz walked out of the Centre it was almost 6 at night. He spotted Roman right away, but before he got to him Roman turned around and smiled at Deniz.

“You look very handsome,” said Roman, as Deniz made his way over to him.

Deniz was dressed in a black suit with a white t-shirt. His suit jacket was opened.

“Thanks, you’re not so bad yourself,” said Deniz.

Roman was in a light purple, long sleeve shirt and tight, dark gray dress pants.

“Thanks,” said Roman, blushing.

“You look so cute when you do that,” said Deniz.

“When I do what?” asked Roman while they were walking towards Roman’s rental car.

“When you blush like that,” Roman stopped in his tracks and turned around to face Deniz.

“I could say the same thing about you.”

Deniz didn’t say anything. He just smiled, and Roman smiled back.

Deniz and Roman finally made it to Roman’s red Porsch and they got in.

“I have to be honest with you about something.” said Deniz, as Roman start the car.

“About?” asked Roman.

“I’ve been a nervous wreck ever since you asked me out.”

“You have? Me too.”

“Really?” asked Deniz, surprised.

“Yeah, it’s been a while since I asked someone out.”

“Well it’s been a long time since I’ve been out on a date.”

“That surprises me, since you’re so outgoing, friendly, and good looking,” said Roman sweetly.

“I’m surprised about you as well, since you’re this good looking rock star on the ice.”

“Ice rock star, I kinda like the sound of that. But it’s been hard for me since I’m always on tour for ice shows, or training. Finally I’m in a stable place in my life and I’m ready to go out again.”

“I’m happy and honored that you picked me.”

“So am I,” said Roman with a huge smile.

When they got to the restaurant, Deniz was shocked that it was a pricey place with a mixture of German food and American cuisine.

“Wow,” said Deniz, as Roman parked the car.

“What, you’re not happy?” asked Roman, facing Deniz.

“No, it’s not that. I’ve always wanted to go here but never could afford it.”

“I know, I’ve asked around,” said Roman, happy that he made the right choice.

“You asked around about me?” asked Deniz, surprised.

“Yeah, I wanted everything to be perfect,”

“In your company, it always is,” said Deniz, blushing.

“That’s a sweet thing to say.”

“I meant it,” said Deniz.

Deniz and Roman finally got out of the car. Roman walked over to Deniz and held his hand as they walked the rest of the way to the restaurant.

Inside, they were stopped by a hostess.

“Hi, I made reservations for two under the name Roman Wild,” said Roman.

“You’re the ice skater?” asked the hostess.

“Yes, I am,” said Roman sweetly.

“I’m a big fan.”

“Thanks.”

“Follow me,” said the hostess with a smile.

They were seated in a semi-private spot in the restaurant. There were only two other tables in the room. Their table was lit by white candles and there was a long-stemmed yellow rose on the table. Deniz was in shock to see the table set up that way.

“Enjoy your meal,” said the hostess, and then she was gone.

“What’s going on?” asked Deniz in shock as he sat down.

“I’m sorry, it was a bit much. We only met two days ago,” said Roman, blabbering with his fist on the table. Deniz reached out his hand and held Roman’s hands on the table.

“Take a deep breath and calm down,” said Deniz.

Roman did as he was told and smiled at Deniz.

“I find it very sweet. The thing I want to know is, how did you put all this together?”

“When I made reservations I told the person to set the table like this. I told them I needed a rose for a special person that meant friends… or something a little more. The yellow rose is a perfect one; it means happiness and friendship. It’s just that perfect one for this point and time, since you mean a little bit more to me than ‘just a friend,’ and it’s been a happy time in both our lives. There’s also a meaning to the number of roses someone gives, but I’ll tell you those meanings at another point in our lives,” said Roman, as he picked up the rose and handed it Deniz.

“Thank you,” said Deniz. He picked the rose from Roman’s hands and smelled it.

“You know a lot about roses, I take it?” asked Deniz.

“A little, I just like roses,” said Roman, blushing.

“I think we should order,” said Deniz, as he picked up his menu.

“Yeah, good idea.”

When the waiter finally showed up at their table, they ordered a bottle of red wine. Deniz ordered the sauerbraten with red cabbage and mashed potatoes; Roman ordered the wiener schnitzel, also with the same sides as Deniz’s dish. When their food arrived, they each took a bite of the other's dishes.

“This is so amazing,” said Roman, after swallowing a piece of Deniz’s roast.

Deniz nodded in agreement about Roman’s veal.

After they finished their meal, they ordered dessert. They both had the linze tart with crushed hazelnuts and raspberry puree. By the time they finished, they were moaning and laughed about how amazing the whole meal was and how full they were.

“I think that was by far the best meal I’ve ever had,” said Roman.

“Me too, thank you so much.”

Once Roman paid for their meal, they got up from the table and Deniz grabbed his rose. They left the restaurant.

Roman drove Deniz home. Once they reached their destination, they turned to face each other.

“I had...” they both said at the same time, then laughed.

“You go first,” said Roman.

“I just wanted to say that I had a great time tonight, thank you,” said Deniz sounding shy

“It was my pleasure. I had a wonderful time as well... thank you for going out with me.”

“Thank you for asking.”

They hugged for a moment.

“I better go, it’s getting late,” said Deniz.

“You think I can call you sometime?” asked Roman.

“I’d like that.”

Roman found a pen in glove compartment. Deniz took the pen and wrote his digits on Roman’s arm.

Deniz opened the door of the car and got out.

“See you around. Call me day or night,” said Deniz.

“Will do.”

Deniz closed the door and watched Roman drive off.

Chapter 4

Deniz was excited when he walked into his flat. He was not one bit tired. He closed the door behind him and a sniffed the flower that Roman had given him.

He wanted to tell his father how his date with Roman had gone, so he walked into his dad’s room.

“OH MY GOD, MY EYES!” screamed Deniz. There was a woman on top of his father. Deniz covered his eyes, turned around, and left the room.

Marian and the woman got out of bed. Both of them put on robes and left the room. They saw Deniz sitting on the couch with his fingers in his hair.

“Sorry about that, son,” said Marian.

Deniz looked up and realized that the woman was Jennifer.

“What’s going on?” asked Deniz, confused.

“After eight years apart, we’re back together.” said Marian, sounding very happy.

“That’s great Dad, but I don’t want to see it,” said Deniz, pointing to his father’s bedroom.

“Why were you in my room in the first place?”

“I wanted to tell you about my date with Roman.”

“You went out on a date with Roman?” asked Jennifer.

“Yeah I did. Is that a problem?” asked Deniz.

“No, not at all. I’m happy for the both of you,” said Jennifer with a smile.

“He gave me this flower,” said Deniz. He got up from the couch and showed them the rose.

“That’s beautiful,” said Jennifer. She faced Marian. “I should go.”

“No, stay,” said Deniz as he grabbed his keys “I’ll stay at Annette’s and Ingo’s place for the night.”

“Thanks, son,” said Marian, patting Deniz on the shoulder.

“Have fun,” said Deniz with a mischievous smile.

Deniz left the flat and walked to Ingo’s place.

When Deniz walked into Ingo’s and Annette’s flat, Ingo was sitting on the couch with Annette’s head on his lap. She was asleep.

“Sorry I’m here,” said Deniz.

“What happened?” asked Ingo in a whisper.

“I caught my dad and Jennifer Steinkamp doing it,” said Deniz.

“Are you shitting me?” asked Ingo, not believing it.

Annette sat up straight. “What’s going on?” she asked, sounding tired.

“Deniz caught his father and Jennifer having sex,” said Ingo, sounding disgusted knowing what Jennifer did to Marian in the past.

”What!?” said Annette in shock.

“Yeah, I walked into my dad’s room and saw her naked on top of my dad. I screamed, ‘Oh my god, my eyes!’ and ran out of the room.”

“Wow.” said Annette.

“Do you think I could stay here for the night?” asked Deniz, sweetly.

“Of course you can sweetie, as long as you want,” said Annette.

“Thanks.”

“Oh! How was your date with Roman tonight?” asked Ingo.

Deniz walked over to the couch and sat next to Annette so that she was in the middle.

“It was amazing!” said Deniz with a bright smile.

“Tell us,” said Annette

“He took me to that new German/American restaurant. He had the table set up with white candles and gave me a long-stemmed yellow rose.”

“How romantic,” said Annette.

“It was amazing. After he drove me home, we hugged and I wrote my phone number on his arm. I told him he could call me day or night.”

“Awesome!” squealed Annette.

“I wish you both good luck,” said Ingo.

“We just me two days ago.”

“So? You’ve never heard of love at first sight?” asked Ingo.

“Yeah, but that stuff never happens to me,” said Deniz, sounding hurt.

“Well, you should believe it now,” said Ingo.

“That young man is crazy about you,” said Annette sweetly.

Deniz smiled and hugged Annette.

“We’re going to go to bed now. Do you need pajamas?” asked Ingo.

“Yeah, I didn’t bring anything else to wear.”

“We’ll clean what you’re wearing now later on in the morning,” said Annette as she got up from the couch. She kissed Deniz on the cheek and walked up the stairs into hers and Ingo’s bedroom.

Ingo got up from the couch. “I’ll be right back with those pajamas for you,” said Ingo.

“Thanks.”

Ingo went into his bedroom. A moment later he handed Deniz the pajamas and a blanket.

“Good night,” said Ingo, shaking Deniz’s hand.

“Good night, and thanks again.”

“You’re welcome,” said Ingo He headed back to his room.

Deniz went into the bathroom and took a quick shower. He dried off and put the pajamas on. Once back in the main room, he laid down on the couch, covered himself up with the blanket, and closed his eyes and fell asleep with a smile on his face thinking about the time he spent with Roman.

Chapter 5

Deniz woke up a few hours later to the ring of his cell phone from the coffee table He reached out and answered it.

“Hello,” said a very tired Deniz into the phone.

“Hey Deniz, it’s Roman. How are you?” asked Roman sweetly.

“I’m fine. I just had a long night after you dropped me off at home.”

“What happened?” asked Roman, concerned.

“When I walked into my house, I went into my dad’s room and I saw him and Jennifer having sex.”

“OH MY GOD MY EYES!” screamed Roman. Deniz had to move the phone away from his ear.

“Yeah, that’s exactly what I said and ran out of his room.”

Roman started to laugh.

“Don’t laugh, it isn’t funny!” said Deniz, starting to laugh as well.

“What happened after that?” asked Roman when he had stopped laughing.

“My dad and Jennifer came out of the room in robes. Jennifer said she was going to leave, but I told her to stay and that I would stay over Ingo’s and Annette’s place. So to end the story of my night, I slept on the couch and I have this terrible pain in my back,” said Deniz

“Wow, what a night you had!” said Roman, sounding as if he was going to laugh again.

“Do you have plans today?” asked Roman, once he took a deep breath and relaxed some.

“I’m free, what’s up?” said Deniz, excited.

“It’s a beautiful day, wanted to know if you’d like to take a walk with me around the park?” asked Roman sweetly.

“Sounds good, but I have to wait until my clothing from last night are done in the dryer. Then I have to go home and change.”

“Wait for me, I’ll pick you up from your friends house and drive you back to your place. I’ll wait for you outside in the car.”

“Thanks!” said Deniz, in shock.

Later on, Deniz and Roman took a stroll around the park holding hands.

“I hope you don’t mind that,” said Roman.

“Mind what?” asked Deniz as they both sat down on a bench.

“Me holding your hand,” said Roman, as he turned to face Deniz.

“It’s not you holding my hand. It’s us holding each other’s hand, and it’s the first time I’ve had that in my life.”

“Nicely put, but I’m kinda surprised that you’ve never held hands with anyone before.”

Deniz blushed. “It’s true.”

“Have you been in a relationship before? You don’t have to answer if it’s too personal,” said Roman kindly.

“To be honest, no. Not a serious relationship. Only on a few dates, since I just came out of the closet.

“Really? Wow. I was in serious relationship years ago, but he wasn’t the one for me,” said Roman, looking into Deniz’s eyes.

“Sorry to hear that.”

“I’m not,” said Roman with a smile.

“Oh!”

Roman smiled wider at that.

“It’s getting late, let me fix us a nice dinner,” said Deniz.

“You can cook?” asked Roman, impressed.

“Sure can!”

“What about your father and Jennifer?” asked Roman, curious.

“They’re going to stay at her place tonight.”

“Oh!” said Roman, blushing.

Deniz just smiled at that.

“Do you think we can go back to my place now, and then you leave and come back later so I can surprise you with the dinner?” asked Deniz.

“Sure.”

“Thanks.”

Later on:

Roman knocked on Deniz’s door. Deniz opened the door. Roman smiled at Deniz when he saw that Deniz was wearing an apron.

“Welcome to my home,” said Deniz as Roman walked inside.

“Thank you,” said Roman, taking a look around.

“Wow, it smells amazing in here. What are you cooking?” asked Roman as he sat down on the couch.

“Oh thanks! I hope you don’t mind I made mixed grilled vegetables with pasta?”

“No, that sounds wonderful!”

“Good, it’s almost ready.”

Roman turned around to face the kitchen table. He noticed that the rose he gave Deniz was in a crystal vase being used as the centerpiece, and he smiled. Deniz faced Roman and noticed him smiling.

“Why are you smiling like that?” asked Deniz.

“Because you’re using the rose I gave you as the centerpiece on the table.”

“I love the rose. Thanks again for giving it to me,” said Deniz, smiling.

“It was my pleasure.”

“What can I get you to drink?” asked Deniz sweetly.

“Whatever you’re having is fine.”

“Just cola.”

“That’s fine.”

“Dinner is ready,” said Deniz, as he poured some soda for Roman.

Roman walked over to the kitchen table and sat down as Deniz served the pasta dish.

“This smells and looks amazing,” said Roman.

“It’s my specialty,” said Deniz, with a shy smile.

Roman took a bite of his dish and moaned.

“Wow, this is amazing!” said Roman, as he took another fork full of pasta.

“Thanks.”

“How long have you been playing hockey?” asked Roman.

“For about ten years.”

“Yeah, me too. With figure skating.”

“You’re really good.”

“So are you. Listen, in a month’s time Jen and I have our first Championship here at the Steinkamp Centre. Would you like to come and watch?” asked Roman shyly, before taking a sip of his cola.

Deniz swallowed his food down hard and almost choked. He licked his top lip.

“Sure, sounds great,” said Deniz with a nod of his head. Roman just smiled.

After the meal it was getting late. Both had training in the morning, so they said their good-nights when Deniz walked Roman outside. Roman went on his tip toes and kissed Deniz on the cheek. Deniz was stunned, but it didn’t stop him from cupping Roman’s cheeks and giving him a light kiss on the lips. This time Roman was the stunned one.

“Good night, handsome,” said Deniz.

“Same to you,” said Roman, before walking away.

Later on that night, Deniz received a text message. Deniz checked his phone and read the message that Roman had sent to him: ‘Sweet dreams, see you soon,’ Deniz smiled at that and texted him back with: ‘Sweet dreams as well. See you soon.’ Deniz sent it and fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter 6

One month later:

Lots of things happened in that month. Jennifer moved in with Marian, and Deniz moved in with Annette and Ingo.

Even though the hockey season was over, Deniz still trained with his team. They had practice games and won more often than lost. When he wasn’t training he would watch Jennifer and Roman go over their routines…even though Mike, the trainer, didn’t much care for him being there distracting Roman. But he wouldn’t leave Roman’s side unless Roman told him to.

Roman and Deniz had dinner dates every weekend after Roman’s and Jennifer’s training. They always ended it with a sweet kiss on the cheek or a peck on the lips, but nothing more… they weren’t ready to take their relationship to the next level. It was too scary for Deniz, since it would be his first time. But Roman understood; he was a bit nervous as well.

Since the big hockey training was over, Ingo helped Annette around the fry stand. He even expanded it a little. Everyone in the town of Essen were either in love, falling in love, falling back in love, or beginning to fall in love for the very first time.

In the past month, Roman also got fitted by Annette for his costume for the championship. Just the feeling of preparing for the show made Roman a nervous wreck in more ways than one. If Roman and Jennifer placed in the top three they would get one step closer to qualifying for the Olympics. This was also the first time Roman asked someone he cared about to any of his shows.

Chapter 7

For the past few days, Roman couldn’t seem to relax. It was only two days before the make-it-or-break-it it championship of his life. He was at Ingo’s and Annette’s place. Annette, who had gotten really close to Roman, was massaging his shoulders to help and relax him. She told him that he would be great and not to worry about a thing. Deniz was working at No. 7, so he wasn’t with the two of them.

“Thanks, Annette, for being such a good friend,” said Roman.

“You’re welcome. And thank you for taking such good care of my Deniz,” said Annette with a smile, patting Roman on the shoulder.

“It’s my pleasure. I really care about him,” said Roman kindly.

“And him, you,” said Annette “Just take deep breaths from now until your show and you and Jen will be great.”

“Thanks.”

Annette gave Roman a huge hug and he hugged her back.

“It’s getting late, I should go.”

“Yeah, okay. Thanks for keeping me company, and get as much sleep as you can,” said Annette, before giving Roman a kiss on the cheek.

“You’re welcome, and thank you.”

Two days later:

Deniz knocked on Roman’s hotel door.

“Hey,” said Roman with a smile as he opened the door.

“Hey,” said Deniz with a shy smile.

They kissed lightly on the lips.

“I’m surprised to see you,” said Roman.

“I didn’t feel like waiting for you at the Centre,” said Deniz.

“I’m happy.”

“Good.”

“Come inside, I was just getting ready,” said Roman as he let Deniz walk into his room. He closed the door.

“You look nice already,” said Deniz, looking at Roman, who was in a robe with his hair wet and brushed back.

“Thank you, but I don’t think anyone else would like to see me this way.”

“I don’t think so. Many fans of yours would crave to see you in that… or less.”

“Aw, Deniz, you say the sweetest things.” Both men laughed.

Roman ran into the bathroom to finish getting ready.

“How are you feeling?” called Deniz.

“A nervous wreck… but a bit better since you’re here,” said Roman.

“I heard Annette helped you out a little bit with your nerves.”

“Yeah, she’s a great help,” said Roman, as he came out of the bathroom in jeans and a light blue sweater.

“You look nice,” said Deniz.

“Thanks. I’m dressing up later at the Centre. There’s going to be an after party, and of course you are invited.”

“Thanks,” said Deniz.

“You are so cute! We’ve been going out for a month and you’re still so shy.”

“Sorry, I can’t help it. You make my heart pound every time I see you,” said Deniz, moving closer to Roman,

Deniz cupped Roman’s cheeks in his hands and kissed him deeply on the lips. He slipped his tongue into Roman’s mouth for the first time in their relationship, then let go of him.

“Wow…” said Roman, his eyes still closed. “That was definitely not a shy act,” he said as he slowly opened his eyes

“I take it you liked it,” said Deniz.

Roman just nodded.

“We should be going,” said Roman.

“Yeah, I’ll take your costume. Just take your other things.”

“Thanks.”

Deniz grabbed Roman’s costume from the closet, and Roman grabbed his luggage bag and his ice skates. Before they left, Deniz kissed Roman on the cheek.

At Steinkamp Centre:

Deniz and Roman went into the locker room. Deniz handed Roman his costume.

“Good luck, and try to relax,” said Deniz.

“Thanks. It’s funny, but being here is kind of relaxing,” said Roman.

“Good,” said Deniz with a smile. “See you later. I have to do something.”

“Alright.”

Deniz and Roman kissed lightly on the lips, and Deniz left the locker room.

Deniz went to a florist and picked up two red, long-stemmed roses. He ran back to the Centre and found his spot in the arena.

The lights went down and the first couple hit the ice. They messed up and got a low score. When Roman and Jennifer hit the ice, they were the fifth couple.

Roman held Jennifer’s hand as they made their way towards the middle of the rink. Before the music went on, Roman kissed Jennifer on the cheek and held her hands tightly. They got into their starting poses.

The music came on. The song was “Parce Mihi Domine” by Jan Garbarek & the Hilliard Ensemble. They both looked great in their tight black and silver costumes. They glided on the ice with ease, their turns and lifts flawless.

The audience cheered loudly for them. Both Jennifer and Roman had huge smiles on their faces.

When Roman and Jennifer landed in their final poses at the end of their routine, the crowd stood up, cheered loudly, and threw flowers down onto the ice. Roman and Jennifer waved and blew kisses into the crowd. They skated over to the “kiss and cry” area and waited for their score.

Mike kissed Jennifer on the cheek and then shook Roman’s hand while they waited for their scores.

When they saw their score on the board, Roman and Jennifer jumped up from their seats and hugged each other tightly. They had the highest score of the night so far. The audience stood and cheered for them when they noticed that they were on the top of the leading board.

Mike hugged both of them tightly.

“That’s what I’m talking about!” said Mike excitedly.

“We still have to wait for four more couples,” said Jennifer.

“Thanks for being a kill joy. Yes, I know, but with those scores you’ll make it in the top three.” said Mike.

In the end, Roman and Jennifer were first in the ranking. Once they received their prize, they were able to freshen up and get ready for the after party.

Roman took a cool shower into the locker room because he was overheated. He got dressed in tight black pants, a red long-sleeved button down shirt with the two top buttons opened, and leather shoes. Once he was completely dressed, he walked out of the Centre and waited for his boyfriend. Deniz came running over to him. He noticed that Deniz had one hand behind his back. Once Deniz was next to Roman, he gave him a passionate kiss on the lips.

“Wow, what was that for?” asked Roman, in complete shock.

“Just for being amazing!” said Deniz, so excited.

“Thank you so much.”

“So what’s up with your hand?” asked Roman, as he pointed to Deniz’s left arm.

“I got you a little something,” said Deniz excitedly.

“Oh, can I have it?” said Roman, like a kid on Christmas.

Deniz smiled and nodded his head.

He handed Roman one long-stemmed red rose. Roman took it and smiled... then Deniz handed Roman the second red rose and Roman’s eyes grew wide.

“I know you want to go to the after party, but I’d really like to be alone with you,” said Deniz, looking right in Roman’s eyes.

“Are you sure?” asked Roman.

Deniz just nodded his head.

Roman grabbed Deniz by his shirt and kissed him hard on the lips.

Once at the hotel they ran inside the elevator. Thanks god they were alone, as they started making out like teenagers. Deniz had Roman pinned against the wall of the elevator, but was careful not to crush the roses. Deniz was taking little bites of Roman’s neck and Roman moaned with delight.

Once the elevator dinged and the doors opened, Roman pulled Deniz towards his hotel room. Both of their hairs were messed up.

While Roman was trying to open his hotel room door, Deniz wrapped his arms around Roman’s chest. He was softly kissing Roman on the neck and was grinding his crotch against Roman’s ass.

“You have to stop that so I can open the door,” whispered Roman.

“I can’t help it,” said Deniz.

Roman finally got the door open and grabbed Deniz by the shirt. Roman pushed him into the room, slammed the door shut, and locked it. He threw Deniz against it.

“I like this side of you,” said Deniz, laughing.

Roman smiled and laughed too.

Roman unbuttoned Deniz’s shirt and kissed down each little bit of exposed skin on Deniz’s chest, and then back up again.

Deniz unbuttoned Roman’s shirt. Before taking it off, Deniz took the roses and put them down on the dresser near the bed. Roman took his own shirt off and walked over to the bed.

“Shit,” said Roman, as he sat down on the bed.

“What’s wrong?” asked Deniz, as he walked over to Roman.

“I just realized that I don’t have any protection,” said Roman, upset.

“Don’t worry, I have everything we need,” said Deniz, cheerful.

“Excuse me?” asked Roman, confused.

Deniz took out a small bottle of lube and a travel size box of condoms and placed the items on the bed next to Roman.

“You planned this?” asked Roman.

“Well…just in case we were ready.”

“Are you… ready, I mean?” asked Roman, flustered.

“Why do you think I’m here?”

Roman couldn’t answer… he just unbuttoned and unzipped Deniz’s pants and took them off along with his underwear.

“You are so handsome,” said Roman.

Roman laid back in bed and Deniz laid on top of him.

Deniz undid Roman’s pants and helped him get out of them. Deniz took a hold of Roman’s penis for the first time. Roman moaned with his mouth and his eyes wide open Deniz started moving his hand up and down Roman’s shaft.

“Better stop or I won’t last long” moaned Roman.

“Oh, we definitely need this to last a little bit longer.” said Deniz with a smile. He stopped jerking off Roman.

Deniz got up off of Roman and opened the box of condoms He took one out and opened the lube.

“Are you ready?” asked Deniz.

Roman didn’t respond. He just nodded.

Deniz lubed up a few of his fingers and moistened Roman’s entrance. He slowly began to enter Roman one finger at a time, until he had three fingers inside.

“How does that feel?” asked Deniz, before capturing one of Roman’s hard nipples in his mouth.

“Goo…good…” moaned Roman as Deniz hit his prostate.

“I’m ready for the real thing,” moaned Roman.

Deniz took his fingers out of Roman’s ass and placed the condom on his own dick. He added lube to his condom-covered penis and entered Roman slowly.

“Yes,” moaned Roman as Deniz entered him.

“You alright?” asked Deniz, concerned.

“Yes, Deniz, I’m great.”

Deniz began to move in Roman. Each time, he moved in a certain way that would hit Roman’s prostate.

“I’m not going to last!” moaned Roman.

“Let go,” moaned Deniz, before kissing Roman deeply on the mouth.

They came in unison. When Deniz grew soft, he slipped out of Roman and pulled the condom off. He made a knot in it and put it on the floor. He rolled onto his side to face Roman.

“Whoo, that was incredible,” said Roman.

“Was it worth the wait?” asked Deniz with a sly smile.

“You know it was.”

“So, do you think you can tell me the meaning of the number of roses now?” asked Deniz.

“Are you sure you don’t know?” asked Roman.

“Maybe, maybe not,” said Deniz playfully.

“Okay, be like that…” said Roman with a slight smile. “The first one I gave you, I only gave you one. That meant love at first sight. The two you gave me means ‘I love you.’ And the red rose means love, relationship, and passion.”

“You were in love with me at first sight?” asked Deniz, stunned.

“Yes, I love you, Deniz,” said Roman sweetly.

“I felt the same way when we met. I love you too, Roman,” said Deniz. He held Roman in his arms, and they both fell into a peaceful sleep.

It's always interesting to go AU and explore what might have happened if things went a little differently. Funny to see Deniz set up in Essen with an established friendship with Ingo and Annette and Roman be the new guy in town.

Annette reminded me of what she was like in ep2(I think?) just a little bit, when she was a huge Roman Wild fan.

Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, mystery author, for the generous gift. It's clear you put a lot of effort into this. And I agree with shellydkitty - it's fun to look at "what if" through something AU. Thanks again!

It is certainly so much fun to see the characters behave differently than what we are familiar with. AU fics are always a surprise to read! I enjoyed how you changed the relationships, and made us look at the characters as if we were meeting them for the first time! This fic was certainly a captivating read!

Thank you so much for contributing to this fest!!

What a start to the day, thanks for writing Mystery Author! I liked the little things the best, Deniz's cooking skills are never in question and Roman wins first place medals. Live the Dream.

Everyone in the town of Essen were either in love, falling in love, falling back in love, or beginning to fall in love for the very first time.

Hahaha, I love that even in something so AU, there's this little bit of soapy love!drama throughout Essen.

Also, poor Deniz, walking in on Jenny and Marian. *would be totally scarred for life*

Thank you, Myster Author!!

Normally I don't go near AU, me and AU are sleeping in different tents on this camping trip of life but I gave this a go for Hofest and I am so pleased I did!

This fic has been my much cuddled companion at work today and I was in such a good mood at the end that I had to hurry home to comment!

Giorgia has already quoted my favourite line! But I had a list of things (that I left at work) that went along the lines of...
Red Porsche! (so glad it wasn't a Ferrari!)
fangirl!Annette
Mike is alive!
I LOL'd like crazy at trauma!Deniz (Show has done much worse to him recently).
And Annette making Roman's costume was gold!

Also - all the food detail! It made me so hungry!

Thank you Mystery Author, I'm rather glad we all got to share this.

Mystery author, you should be proud of yourself for your creation. I don't generally read AUs, but I'm really glad I read your story. I enjoyed reading it so much. I loved that Jenny and Roman were skating together and that Mike is still alive. Also, it seems that Deniz and Roman would fall in love in any universe.

The part I loved the most was the ending. That was a great scene. It was totally awesome. :-)

This fic brought a big smile and lots of enjoyment to an otherwise lousy day - thank you, Mystery Author! There's such sincerity in their early meetings, and the gradualness of them getting together was tantalisingly done! This HoFest has brought so many lovely, memorable pieces of fanwork to the DeRo scene, and this one is standing out for me. Thanks for sharing :)
