Kyle & Joelle
WHO Kyle and Joelle
WHAT Helping the economy
WHEN Thursday, March 26
WHERE The Amazon Mall
RATING PG

Being a little disgusted with his behavior, and himself, Kyle took the opportunity of a day off to enjoy the finally spring-like weather to...spend it inside. Not entirely inside, mind you. The walk to the mall had been a nice one, with the skylights opening and closing in intervals to allow some fresh, cool air into the causeways. Kyle didn't want to say that it was shopping therapy, because Guthrie's were the most stable of the bunch and didn't need stuff like that. Nor was he really shopping for clothes.

But with the incident with Levi at the club, and then again on the journals, Kyle was feeling a little sick t o his stomach. He hadn't been raised to get down to Levi's level, and what had he done? Tried to hit him below the belt with his words. But, then again, Levi had purposefully destroyed Kyle's psychic barriers. Making the man believe that his shoes were on fire was the nicest thing Kyle could have done. It would have been more demoralizing to make Levi wet himself.

With a sigh, Kyle turned away from the floral-scented lotion shop, the smell making his stomach turn. He hated places like that. But where did someone like Kyle shop? Not at the gimmicky stores, not at the places where the the mannequins were only half-dressed. They looked ridiculous and Kyle would rather wear a potato sack than something with logos plastered all over him. There was always Sears, but he didn't need tires, a dishwasher, or new socks.

Resigning himself to being a window shopper, Kyle's hands fell into his pockets, his pace slow, eyes curious as he walked slowly up one side planning on turning around and doing the same thing to the other side. Maybe on every level if he really wanted to waste the day away.

Joelle stepped out of one of the many clothing stores, no indication that she had actually been in the store. Not that she wouldn't have liked to. She enjoyed the newest fashion - not the slutastic (was that even a real word?) kind of clothing that was paraded on all the mannequins, but the more modest yet highly fashionable kind that was shoved into the back of the stores. Her wardrobe would be filled with such clothing... if she had the money. So it was bargain shopping for her, which she didn't really mind, even if she really would've liked that 60 dollar skirt she saw.

Twirling on her heel, Joelle headed to down the way she had just come up, peering into the fronts of the stores as she passed by. It really was odd having so much time to kill at the mall. Usually she was either at work or doing something at home that the very thought of spending hours upon hours scanning every corner of the local mall was complete foreign to her. Yet here she was doing just that. Blame it on a cranky spirit boy that was doing everything he could to make staying home unpleasant and her own random curiosity.

Just as she was about to turn into another store, she caught sight of Kyle slowly making his way towards her. Joelle didn't know Kyle too well, nothing beyond random interactions on the journals, but she recognized him in an instant. How could she not? Mutant Media posted so much about him you'd have to be living under a rock not to recognize him. Not that she was a reader of the tabloids, she just likes the pictures...

"Hello," she said cheerfully as Kyle got closer to her, a smile and a wave accompanying her greeting. "It's Joelle. Jo. From the journals," she added, pretty sure that Kyle probably had no idea who this tall, skinny kid was talking to him.

When the pretty young girl greeted him, Kyle looked over his shoulder, sliding to one side to get out of the way of whoever she happened to be waving at. When he was greeted with nothing but air and empty space behind him, He ducked his head slightly in embarrassment then took the two stride up to her. "Oh!" Kyle said in surprise. That name rang a bell and he grinned. "Nice to finally meet you in person. I'm Kyle," he added, as if she didn't already know who he was. "Sorry, I didn't think you were talkin' to me a second ago."

For all his headlines and photographs, Kyle remained a modest farmhand at heart. His body was just that, a body. It worked and helped him work, but that was pretty much just it. There wasn't much pomp when it came to Kyle's ego. "Having any luck at the mall?" He needed a new shirt for the event for which the pictures had been taken in the first place. And he wanted to look good. He wanted to look good for Lizzy. It was silly, but he was a minor celebrity - at least he would be at the event, his pictures plastered....somewhere. He wasn't privy to that information, but it was an important cause and he wanted to look his best.

Glancing around, Kyle saw a pretzel stand, a sunglass hut and a women's lingerie store. "Could I ask you a favor, Jo?" Who better than a female to help him not look like a complete doofus in front of another female?

Joelle's smile widened when Kyle returned the greeting, giggling slightly when he admitted he didn't realize she was talking to him before. It amused her to think someone that was in the spotlight like he was would believe she had to be greeting someone else and not him. It seemed many of the others in that some position would at least ponder on the notion that she might have been talking to him. But then again, she could be wrong. Either way, she was glad to find that he was as modest and easily approachable as he seemed on the journals.

"I'm sorry. I should have been clearer," she apologized. She quickly moved on when Kyle questioned her about her luck at the mall, tilting her head to the side as if seriously pondering the question. "Hm.. sort of. I'm mainly window shopping really. There are some nice things though." She was about to mention that beautiful skirt she just saw when she noticed Kyle glancing around. Was he getting bored? Was he meeting with someone? Her head tilted to the side questioningly as she watched him.

Could I ask you a favor, Jo?

Joelle perked up, a smile once again on her face. "Sure!"

"No no, it's fine, no need to apologize," Kyle was quick to add. He hated being a bother to people, especially when they had just randomly bumped into one another at the mall. He could call his momma, maybe even Aunt Paige or Auntie Elizabeth, but it would just be a hassle sending them pictures of him in different colored shirts and people would probably think he was just being vain. So, Jo was the obvious benefactor in all this.

"I've got this exhibit to go to on Saturday. It's a little more highbrow than I'm used to. I've got a suit, but all my shirts are white..." He let the sentence die off, feeling a bit embarrassed by all of this. "I'm all thumbs when it comes to choosing shirts and ties. Do you think you could spare a minute to help a bumbling man not look like a fool?" He offered her an apologetic smile, completely fine with her saying no, if that was her decision. He probably wouldn't have asked in the first place. Hopefully the complete lack of fashion shone in his eyes, offering a little strength to his mild plea.

"Of course I can help," she replied, her eyes sparkling. Oh how she loved picking out flattering clothing for others! Granted, most of the people she would do this for were spirits so that couldn't really try them on, but that was besides the point. What mattered right now was that someone needed help finding some clothing and she was asked to be the one to be that help.

"In fact, I just came out of a store that had some nice shirts." She pointed back in the direction she just came, indicating the clothing store a few stores down. "Most of the stuff there is expensive, but they do have some reasonably priced items? What is your price range?"

Kyle hated asking for help, but then again, a semi-familiar face, and a woman's touch combined into something that would, at the least, make him not look like a fool. "Thanks," he said, giving her a smile and stepping closer to follow her like an obedient puppy.

"Gosh," he said, rubbing the side of his face in thought. Did someone really need a price range for a dress shirt? "Thirty bucks? How much should a shirt cost that'll last me for a while?"
