[Who:] Toby Shaw & Yo Rosshire
[When:] Tuesday Afternoon
[Where:] Studio M, NYC
[What:] Toby comes snooping for his usual scoop and finds someone new
[Rating:] TBA (probably just PG-13)

There was nothing in all of Manhattan that Tobias Shaw didn't seem to know. It was his business to know. Mutant Media was one of, if not the most watched news show when it came to gossip and street-knowhow. The entertainment world was vastly full of juicy news that was Toby's job to broadcast to the world. People often said he was a bad person, some others thought him a charming, witty and luxurious hero for letting them in on the inside scoop behind celebrities' closed doors. Toby personally thought, well, someone had to do this job, and since he loved attention, why not him?

He had finished prepping what was to be the weekly lineup of juicy news on MM although he had noticed that his report lacked some musical flair, so what better place to snoop out mutant-friendly music-media than one of New York's most popular hubs for the music world, Studio M.

Toby stepped out of his private car, glanced around the busy Manhattan street before heading inside the studio. He was dressed in his usual somewhat flashy yet classy looking attire, a sharp yellow shirt, navy jacket and red tie that matched the square of silk in his breast pocket. He carelessly passed through the studio's main lobby and began his snooping. He was bound to run into someone he knew on the inside, or over hear someone muttering about some stars temper tantrum or drug problem, anything that could make the news.

"Sound technician. I'm a sound technician, not a coffee bitch." Yohann was mumbling to himself quietly as he started out across the large lobby toward the outside doors. He usually took things in stride, but the band he was working with today were pricks. They were difficult to work with and they'd apparently decided that two sound guys in the studio were not needed, and one of them had to go get them coffee. Yo, being the newer of the sound technicians, found himself right out the door.

He managed to come out of his rant to notice the guy walking in. It was hard not to notice him dressed the way he was. And Yo was amazed that he recognized him right away. 'Holy shit, I think that's Toby Shaw!', he thought to himself, his expression changing in an instant. He slowed his walk as he approached the man. Shaw looked like he was in his element, knew right where he was going, but Yo couldn't help himself.

"Mr. Shaw!", he said, beaming, as he walked up to him. "Hey! Welcome to Studio M! You need help finding anything?"

Toby was used to his name being called out. As a celebrity gossip tv personality, people were always asking him on the street to give them the inside scoop, but he stopped this time and turned. He saw the sound boy walking up to him. Toby flashed the employee a smile.

He nodded. "Actually you may be able to help me." This was chance number one to seek out anything that he needed to be uncovered here. "I was going to do a feature on Studio M's activities lately. Do you happen to know any artists that are in today?"

Though Tobias was being fairly blatant with his snooping, Yo was feeling a little star struck and wasn't even catching on to that at the moment.

"Man, I love your shit, I read it all the time." He couldn't help himself, even though it was very fanboyish of him the way he was acting. And it was true. Yohann was one of the regular readers, loving to hear what Toby knew about the more famous members of the mutant population. A question (or several) came into his head about his alleged family, but they were forgotten for the moment as Shaw asked about his work.

"You want to know who's in today? STEEM's in there now, recording. assholes",he added under his breath as he rolled his eyes upward. "They been here a few days I think, today's the first day I had to work with them." Yes, had to. It was a necessity, not at all a pleasure. He lowered his voice a little as he spoke, aware they weren't the only people in the lobby. "I thought they'd be cool to meet, y'know? I mean, they're huge, this is the first album since their reunion, but they'd kinda high maintenance. Full'a themselves. Most bands I've worked with here haven't been like that, they've been pretty chill mostly." Once you got Yo talking, it wasn't easy to get him to stop.

And that was fine by Toby! He did all the talking sometimes but it paid off to listen to people. He smiled and nodded as Yohann complimented his work. "Thank, I'm glad you like MM."

STEEM eh? Toby put on his heavily interested face, which he was. He crossed his arms, listening to Yo, not missing the undertoned 'assholes.' "Oh? Sortof rough around the edges? Well its not very nice of them to treat the Studio staff like that."
He leaned in slightly so he could hear Yo better as he hushed his voice.
"I suppose bands like that would be full of themselves. How are they sounding since their reunion?"

"Yeah, no shit", Yo said in agreement to Toby's comment about how the band was treating him, not getting that he was pandering for more information.

When he was asked about the band's sound, Yo thought about it a moment. "To be honest, sounds kinda like a retread of their last album. Never thought they'd be one of those bands who's songs all sound alike, but that's kinda what it's like. And like I said, just not real fun to be around. Sniping at each other a lot, especially Hans and Robbie."

Toby offered a sympathetic nod and tilt of his head. He had to admit that he too actually treated some of the people at the MM studio the same way but still, that wasn't the point.

Toby bit his lip. "Oh yeah?" He put one hand to his chin. "And even their last album wasn't that good before they split." Then Yo said something that made Toby's eyebrows arch in curiosity. "What are those two fighting about?"

"No, it wasn't", Yo agreed about the album. He didn't think anything of the questions, it seemed a pretty natural conversation to Yohann. And a conversation with someone famous, no less!

"They're just bitching about everything. Robbie'll say Han's voice sounds jacked up, which it did a couple of times, then Hans will bitch about Robbie's playing. He even played the 'rehab' card the one time, couldn't believe he brought that shit up. Thought the dude was gonna jack him up right then and there. I'll be surprised if they all actually make it through another tour together."

Toby was quite sure that he had made a new friend. Yohann was spilling the beans like no other source he ever had and Toby was taking mental notes like crazy.

Toby actually smiled and laughed a little. "Oh really?" He flashed one of his half-smile-half-smirks. "Thats quite interesting. Rehab cards, violent threats, failing music career....I knew there was a reason I came here."

As Toby mentioned the reason he'd came, that sparked a reminder in Yo's thoughts. "Ah shit", he said, hesitantly. "It was good meeting you, but I gotta go run an errand for them." Realizing how that sounded, he quickly added. "That's not even my fuckin' job, I'm not an errand boy. I'm one of the sound techs. But they're making all kinds of stupid demands in there. And the customer's always right, right?", he said with a giant roll of his eyes, showing what he thought of that sentiment.

Toby nodded a little, pursing his lips slightly and looking downward with a sort of smirk before looking back at Yo. He shrugged his shoulders. "I suppose, but not to worry. At the rate they are going, you may not have to deal with them for too much longer."

Toby fished his hand inside his jacket pocket drawing out a completely black business card and flicked it out with his fingers and extended it to Yohann. "If there may be anything you need...or need to tell me." He was sure Yo would understand. The card was to get in contact with Toby.

On the black business card was printed the Mutant Media, double M symbol, and on the other side Toby's name and a phone number.

Yo let out a small laugh at Toby's comment about the band. "That'd be fucked up if they called it quits before they even finished their shit, but I guess you never know." He doubted that would happen, but there was no telling with these types. They could decide that the press of breaking up (again) would be better than the press of a new album release (which it might be).

Yo took the cad that was offered him, turning it over in his hand, looking at it. Shiny. "Sweet, thanks. Great to get to meet you", he said again, stuffing the card in his pocket. "Later, man!", he said, moving for the front doors. He hated to leave so soon, but knew he'd be in trouble if he didn't hustle back with what the band had wanted. Belatedly, he realized he hadn't even told the media mogul his name, but maybe that was for the best considering the man's reputation. In any case, Yo was pretty psyched as he left the studio. He'd met somebody famous, somebody famous who wasn't, an asshole, and had even gotten a phone number and told to keep in touch. What a day!
