Kingsley liked to walk to the castle when the weather was calm like today. He liked to be alone in his thoughts and often took his time, eating breakfast at home with Hestia before going to his classes. He had no early classes besides, so he would only be using this time to record grades and read papers.
He took the last turn in the road before the gates of the castle came into view, the rest of the road empty of travelers. That's when he saw the figure at the gates. It looked like Viktor Krum, though he didn't think this was possible since Viktor had left England for Bulgaria again. As he got closer to the figure that looked like Viktor he began to feel like something was wrong.
Then he saw the broom that was speared through him; supporting the limp and lifeless body of the famous quidditch player. Kingsley rushed forward, running until he was out of breath, stopping meters from Viktor's mutilated body.
The word 'spy' was carved over Viktor's heart, the letters bleeding down his chest. Viktor's eyes were but ashes in their sockets, his hands cut repeatedly, the back end of the broom fluttering in the wind just above his breast bone. The rune that seemed to be the new mark of the death eaters was burnt into his forehead.
A note was pinned to Viktor's robes, which Kingsley immediately pulled off to read.
"Whoever should find this should know that I know about the Order of the Phoenix. I know that Viktor was a spy for them... for you. Be warned that I was gentle with Krum as I tortured him for a week, slowly killing him. No spy shall be so lucky to receive avada kedavra. The traitors will suffer worse than any spy."
Kingsley was frozen in shock, then immediately summoned his patronus to contact Minerva and Harry. His spy had been discovered. Viktor Krum was dead.
