When: May 9th, after the scene with Ollie. (Backdated)
What: Roy picks up Lian from daycare and finds out they made mothers day cards. The 9th was just the day of Roy having awkward conversations.
Rating: G
"Daddy!" Lian came tearing out of her classroom, and raced towards her dad. Roy crouched down and held his arms out, and Lian launched herself forward, wrapping her arms around her fathers neck. Roy stood up, swinging her around in a circle, before he carefully placed her back on the floor.
"Surprise!" He didn't usually pick her up from daycare, but since he was calling it an early day work wise he figured he should. He thought that maybe he should make time to pick her up more often, it obviously made her grin.
The next few moments were busy with getting her coat, and backpack and alerting the proper daycare authorities that he was taking her home today, not Mia or Connor, or Ollie, or Dinah. Hey, Roy had a long list of people that he had given permission to pick up his daughter from daycare. And he knew he was damn lucky to have a group of people that cared about him, and his daughter that they made time out of their day to help him out. Once Lian's gear had been gathered, the two walked out to the car, and Roy got Lian situated in her car seat in the backseat.
Once he had gotten himself buckled in, and gotten them merged into traffic he glanced to the rear view mirror to check on Lian. She was looking a bit sober, now that they were on their way home, and Roy was wondering what was up. The grin that had been on her face when he had gone to pick her up had been replaced by a thoughtful look.
"You have a good day princess?" If someone had upset her at daycare ...
"We made mothers day cards."
"Oh." Mothers Day - a day that was only going to get more awkward in the Harper household the older Lian got. He glanced at the mirror again, but Lian didn't look upset, just kind of thoughtful. "So - did you make one?"
"Yup. Can we mail it to Mommy?"
"We can do that ... or how about, we hold onto it?" He wasn't sure what was worse. Lying and saying he had mailed the card to Mommy, or holding onto it in case Mommy made an appearance. His own feelings toward Cheshire could be described as ... complicated, but the thought of her making an appearance didn't really fill him with happiness. He knew nothing good was likely to come from Jade showing up.
"Okay." Lian agreed to that easily enough, and Roy let out a breath he had been holding in. Disaster averted. At least for now.
