Who: Dinah, Bruce, Open to Bat & Arrow Kids What: Dinah and Bruce come clean about the big secret; and hope the house doesn't get burned down. Where: Wayne Manor, Gotham City NJ When: Thursday, July 28th Rating: PG-13 for language
It wasn't going to be long before they were unable to hide it any more. In fact, Dinah was now certain that it wasn't a burrito, but in fact a baby bump that required loose fitting clothes to hide, and even those weren't likely to fit in another week or two. Which mean it was do or die time as far as talking to the kids went. Bruce had spoken to Damian alone, apparently to very little success, and he had gone directly to sulking. She hadn't expected him to be thrilled, of course, but that didn't mean that it didn't sting a little. She could only assume that he didn't want her there; had never really wanted her there, and that wasn't going to get any better with the addition of a younger, helpless sibling who would necessarily be the center of attention for some time. Honestly, all Dinah could do was hope Bruce was right in guessing that it was a girl. Maybe then he wouldn't feel so competitive.
But that was tomorrow's problem; right now her focus was on trying to get the rest of the kids on board. They'd have time to grapple with the family complications after everyone else was in the know.
To that end, they'd invited all the kids-- Bruce's and Oliver's-- over with the offer of free Alfred food, of which they could eat as much as they liked. There was already a small buffet of finger sandwiches, drinks, and other snack foods with most of their preferences taken into consideration. There was event (unsurprisingly) vegan fare to appeal to Connor.
Dinah waited until the kids were seated, comfy, and stuffing their faces with delicious food bribes before glancing at Bruce for moral support, then starting.
"So we wanted to get everyone together to tell you all some important news." Deep breath. This was harder than coming out to the world as Black Canary, and really there was no reason why that should be the case.
"I'm fourteen and a half weeks pregnant. Bruce and I are going to have a baby. Everything's fine; I'm fine, the baby's fine. We just-- didn't want to tell anyone until we were sure of that. So far, the only people who know are family, and we're going to be telling friends soon too but it's probably not going to be long before the press figures it out but we've got a little bit more time before that particular shitstorm starts brewing."
Maybe she shouldn't curse. She was going to be a mom now, after all.
