Who: Bruce and Dinah (NPC Alfred) Where: Dinah's Brownstone When: April 16, 2016 What: It's Dinah's birthday, so Bruce tries something low key for a change.
The Bently pulled up in front of her home in the late afternoon. Bruce was out of the car before Alfred could get the door, but still had to wait for the older gentleman to swing around and unlock the trunk. Plans for Dinah's birthday had gone through numerous revisions, everything from a trip to Paris, to jewelry, to a revisitation of the idea of buying her the flower shop she kept circling around, but Bruce had discarded all of them uncertainly.
Perched on the head of a gargoyle above Midtown Bank, the thought had come to him without even thinking, and not a moment too soon. Not only because the men he'd been waiting for had left their vehicle two blocks up, but because her birthday was the very next day. Bruce spent the entire morning getting ready, and to Alfred's bemusement, he refused any assistance from him. There were logical flaws in this part of the plan, and it took far longer than he had anticipated it would, but Bruce took it as a point of pride that it all be done by him.
When Alfred rang the bell, Bruce was standing behind him with four shopping bags in his hands to go with the two boxes Alfred carried in his.
"Happy Birthday, Ms. Dinah," Alfred smiled when she opened the door and even leaned in to kiss her cheek. "I have the pleasure of delivering your birthday present," he gestured with his head at Bruce, in amusement. "From Master Bruce - as well as from myself." At that, he lowered the boxes in his arms so that she could better see the top one. It was wooden and lidless, and contained in a ceramic pot, a perfect specimen of the Pennyworth Blue.
"I would also like to extend an invitation to Ms. Sin to join me for the evening. Perhaps she would care to assist me in preparing your birthday care." His eyes twinkled conspiratorially.
