Who: Loki, L.L., open to all Teen Titans.
Where: Titan headquarters in New York
When: August 18, 2014
What: Loki storms the Teen Titan’s HQ! Bad things are about to appear...
Rating: PG-13
Loki sat some distance away from the seemingly abandoned warehouse, sipping his mocha frappe and his white hoodie pulled over his messy hair, ear buds doing little to block out the barely muffled sound of traffic where he sat against a building cross-legged. He didn’t have any music playing after all, and simply looked occupied in scrolling through his phone apps.
Finally Ikol fluttered back to his shoulder. “Trouble,” the magpie instantly informed.
“Mm-hm?” Loki prompted, lips still wrapped about the straw.
“The building is a fortress of technology meant to dissuade unwanted visitors. It is very unlikely you will be able to get in undetected.” But Ikol could, being an invisible spirit of sorts.
“Hm.” Loki looked toward where the plain seeming building lay, green eyes thoughtful. He hadn’t tried to get into the building right away. Abandoned buildings had a… sense about them. An aura of abandonment with no true living impressions. There were usually broken windows, degrading roofs and sagging foundations with grass sprouting wherever it could dig its roots between the settling cement and pavement. This one had no such signs. But someone wanted the building to look locked up and abandoned. “How soon?” he murmured.
“In many areas, you will be detected immediately. There are some occupants in the building, so that will allow you some grace to move freely in a few areas, but getting in and out is still all too problematic.”
“What are my chances of dying?”
“Hard to say. Considering the occupants, not terribly high.”
The boy smiled. “Okay.”
“Oh-kay?” Ikol’s tail fanned, wingtips dropping in exasperation. “Master, I advise against this.”
“Yes, yes, I heard you before. I am not deaf to you, Ikol. I’m only ignoring your advice.” Because Ikol wasn’t very forthcoming as to why he didn’t want Loki going into this particular building. “If this is something that can help me get my brother back, it must be endured and it cannot wait. The stones are getting ready to do something.” Even now he could feel their faint pulsing, even without much concentrating. There was a silent pressure of energy stirring beyond normal mortal senses, making his gut tight. “Besides, it’s not often I get to teach you something. This will be what is commonly known on the streets as a smash and grab.” His smile widened, looking to his phone. “Give me details on the layout, where the rune stones lay, where the dangerous traps are, and who is within.”
The magpie chirrup-warbled in magpie-fashion, a definite sound of grumbling, before his beak started spilling the details as asked. Loki listened even while he sent off two texts. One was to L.L., asking her to meet him at the coffee shop, but if he didn’t happen to be there, to please contact Donald Blake and approach yon warehouse, because he was surely in a lot of trouble if he was not enjoying a latte by time she arrived. Then he and Ikol settled down on the best plan they could for the circumstances, which wasn’t much.
He couldn’t help but add before he stood: -Come at once if convenient. If inconvenient come anyway.
~~~
It was quite a jump, but he made it anyhow, fully in his Asgardian clothing (because it could stand breaking through the window without tearing). His hair was tucked in under the cowl so it wouldn’t get in his eyes, so there was nothing really normal seeming about the boy that rolled and tumbled even as Spree’s alarms started blaring. Loki somehow bounced to his feet, shaking doggishly so glass went flying, but he was unscratched and unharmed.
“Don’t mind me! Passing through,” he said to no one in particular as he immediately raced from the empty warehouse room through what was obviously a training area, then into the comfortable living area. Even without Ikol’s guidance he knew where the rune stones were. He could feel their steady pulsing.
He dropped to his side, skidding between the game consoles and couch, grabbing up the small knapsack with no worries for floor burns in the least before cartwheeling up neatly to his feet. He gave a second pause to smile in triumph. “Huzzah!”
“Escape! Escape!” Ikol was quick to remind him.
As though Spree’s terse insistence overhead that he stop wasn’t enough to get him moving again. Even so he looked to the games and exclaimed “Aw, they have Kingdom Hearts!” before running after the ghost magpie.
