Black boots beat a heavy cadence across tar covered roofs. The opportunistic thief huffed and puffed as he fled across a row of apartment buildings. Breaking and Entering had been a problem as of late in the Melville Section and Nightwing had been forced to make a couple passes through this night. The vigilante had come across the out of shape thug trying to jimmie open an old woman's window. The thug caught sight of Nightwing's reflection in the window and took off.
The footing along the roofs was treacherous but some how the thief was able to circumvent the slick spots and standing puddles. He stomped through a pool of water, sending ripples outward and hurdled over the side of a building. The crook landed on the fire escape which creaked ominously. Metal shook and vibrated as the heavy set man tried to retreat.
Nightwing had been going at a light pace, leaping and bounding from walls to keep up with the crook. He had to hone his skills somewhere and foot races like this made for the perfect opportunity. The path across roof tops had been an odd choice but he kept a decent distance from his quarry. As the thug jumped onto the fire escape, Nightwing sprang into action. Muscles strained as he shot forward in a rush of speed. His feet left the rooftop as he hurled himself out into the night air. He slammed into the wall on the opposite side of the alley and pushed off of the brick face. His body twisted into a back flip and he used gravity to allow him to gain the lead on the thug. He landed on the fire escape and turned quickly to block the way of the crook.
The thief immediately slammed on the breaks and fell back onto his ass with an expelled breath of air. He crawled backwards across his the metal grate as if he was going to try fleeing back up the fire escape. Nightwing smirked at this and cocked his head to the side. "You haven't learned yet, have you?"
