Who: Kyle Rayner. OPEN to Jennie-Lynn Hayden, and/or Todd Rice. Otherwise a narrative.
Where: New York City. His apartment. At least, his former apartment.
When: March 26th, 2012
What: Kyle returns to his apartment after about eight months in space and finds it is not quite how he left it...
Rating: Likely safe for work.
Eight months in space had left Kyle worn, and lonesome for his own world. It was odd for him to think that he had been among the very stars he had stared up at as a child, and actually doing the sort of things he used to pretend he would with friends. Soaring through space. Battling evil. Saving the universe. If not for the ring on his finger, he would almost doubt some of his latest experiences. But there was no denying who he was, and what responsibility weighed upon his shoulders. It was hard, but he liked it. It gave him purpose. Meaning. And while few outside the Corps would ever know that he was actually doing something worthwhile with his life, it was enough for him.
Well. Most of the time anyway.
Because while he could get by without recognition for some of the things he had done, it was still nice to be allowed basic human decency, which was something he felt denied him after an hour long shouting match with his boss. Having known he would be gone for an extended period, Kyle had worked far ahead in in his comic strips, so that while he was away his work could still be distributed by his ever faithful friend Terry. It was not in itself a bad plan. And it would have likely worked out fine, had he not been in space close to eight months instead of five as he had expected. Which was a predicament that had left him trying to explain where he had been, why he deserved to keep his job, and what he could do to make up for his absence, all while trying to ignore the character attacks that flew his way. For his part, he managed to maintain calm, despite his overwhelming desire to tell his boss what he had done with the man's daughter on the very desk that they had stood on either side of throughout the proceedings.
Power of will.
With his work situation then mostly settled for the moment, Kyle had managed to make it back to his apartment without further incident. At least until he actually arrived there. For in his weariness he failed to notice pretty much all the tell tale signs that there were at least two other people living there, as he stretched his arms out wide to either side and yawned before removing his shirt and heading to his bedroom with the intention to sleep the rest of the day away. It was not until he pulled open a drawer and lifted out a pair of lacy underwear that he discovered that something was very much amiss.
"...What in the hell...?", he said out loud, as further investigation revealed that the drawer was full of panties. Since he was not exactly dating, much less living with anyone-at least that he knew of-the experience just left him standing there with his eyebrows arched, and a pair of underwear in each hand as he tried to figure out what was going on.
"Am I in the right place?"
