Strange cars in the drive way equals bad news.
Steph stopped in her tracks and stared at the cars parked outside her house. There shouldn't be any vehicles there at this time of the day and just to be sure, Steph counted the number of houses on the block as if there was any mistaking the house she had grown up in with the rest in the neighborhood. Of the three cars in the driveway and in front of her house, Steph recognized none and little bells rang in her head as she reluctantly continued on.
The door was unlocked, Steph noted, and taking a deep breath, she let herself in as silently as she could.
There were two strange women sitting on her couch watching the news. The blonde noticed her first and smirked, "It's Arthur's little girl." Steph's lip curled up in disgust as the dots were connected. The other woman was staring at her as well now, "He really does have a kid. Who knew? Your dad's in the kitchen." The last bit was apparently directed at her and Steph locked the door behind her with a storm cloud forming above her head. The day couldn't have sucked any worse.
"...what are you doing here?!" Steph demanded as a form of greeting. Her dad turned and smiled at her. "Surprised to see me, baby girl?"
"Mom kicked you out. You can't be here anymore." Steph wanted him out. There was only one reason why he would be here with 'friends', if they were even that. The last time his 'friends' were here, she had to replace all the groceries and send the couch cushions to the dry cleaner's. Then there was the time his 'friend' took her hostage to get back at him. Arthur ignored his daughter and finished assembling his sandwich. "And to think I was so looking forward to seeing you, after you....sent...me to jail." The words stung and Steph hid the emotions that threatened to spill. Steph bit her lip. "What you did was wrong. You were stealing from people. And you aren't welcome HERE!"
The last bit was punctuated by a mean right hook that made Steph swallow in pain. Arthut stumbled back and instinctively raised his hand to his jaw, wincing at the contact. "You can still throw a punch. Alright. We'll leave but don't expect me to be back when I'm filthy rich."
"You always say that before a heist!"
Steph looked at the sandwich still sitting on the counter and threw it into the trash.
