A red and blue blur came to a halt in front one of the side-entrances to the Cave. "Identify Self," the computerized voice demanded. "Erm.... Superman?" There was a pause and then a reply. "Identity, Voice Match, and DNA Scan Confirmed. Welcome Superman." ... DNA Scan? That was new. He was relieved as the false wall lifted and he hovered through to the Cave. Honestly, he had been prepared to have been shot into a holding cell with a red-sun light generator until Batman returned. Bruce had joked about it once, after all.
Even as much as Bruce actively denied that he had a sense of humor outside of "Brucie Wayne", Clark knew better. But he also was aware that most of what Bruce joked about could be done. Even his wittiest threats about breaking arms without flexing five muscles had some truth to it. Know him long enough, and you could almost spot the outline of a pair of cowl ears on the shadow of Bruce Wayne. It was slightly eerie.
Despite this, Clark still willingly claimed him as his best friend, much to Bruce's feigned annoyance. Who else other than Superman would have the patience to look for the man under that cowl and the good that was there? Outside of the Batfamily, there weren't many.
The Cave was always changing, Bruce was always working on a new car, a new plane, a new something. But certain things remained the same, the Penny, the Dinosaur, the memorial... Clark paused in front of it, recalling his own memories of Jason Todd before moving away. Everywhere you looked, you were reminded of exactly who lived and worked here. He knew better than to touch anything, so he simply took a seat in a chair near a workbench, and waited.
