WHO: Harry and Hermione
WHAT: Re-meeting, converse
WHEN: A few weeks ago
WHERE: The X-Mansion
STATUS: Incomplete.
RATING: TBD.

Harry hurried through the halls. Doug's message was succinct. Hermione was here! Apparently, Doug Ramsey had been the one to greet her and had eventually shown her to a room. Harry wished he had been there but he'd been out trying to see if he could find any traces of their people. Save a very disturbing one, he hadn't. He sighed as he rushed past others, nearly clipping a few students as he went.

This was crazy. But he really hoped it was true. Mind you, he would have not wished Hermione here and lost for all the world, but he also desperately wished for something and someone of their world. She was his best friend, the person he trusted most, his first crush, and more, and he could not wait to see her.

Which was what brought him, at 1 in the morning, to knock at the door to the room she'd been assigned, and hope she wouldn't knock his head off for disturbing her.

Sleep hadn't yet to come for its nightly visit and so Hermione Granger rested on her bed, back flat against the headboard with a book clutched in both of her hands.

Reading, she found, was a very good cure for insomnia and a good way to put her mind at ease, after enduring a day (or night) full of.... strangeness.

Instead of a textbook, she'd opted for something fictional(Emma, by Jane Austen). It had been such a long time she'd done any reading for pure entertainment in many months.

Hermione had been about thirty pages into the book when she'd heard a knock. Saving her place with a bookmark Doug had lent her, she placed the volume on her nightstand and slipped off the bed, bare feet sinking into the plush carpeted floor as she moved over to the door.

She stopped, a hand enclosing around the knob and she pulled it open. Her eyes instantly brightened as soon as she saw who it was on the other side. "Harry!" She said, her arms ensnaring him in a warm embrace.

Harry hugged her close, smiling fit to burst, and breathing her in. "Thank Merlin! They told me you were here. Sorry I was delayed. Had a run in with Bellatrix, and--- I am really glad to see you."

He hugged her tight, just shivering a little.

"I'm really glad to see you too!" Hermione didn't seem to be in any rush to break their connection, her arms holding him ever more tightly. It was just so nice to know, without a doubt, that he was safe. But her brows did furrow worriedly at the mention of Bellatrix Lestrange.

"How did you...? Are you all right? Where was she?" These questions seemed to come out in a rush, as she pulled back just enough to look into Harry's emerald green eyes. The presence of one of Lord Voldemort's more overzealous supporters was definitely an ominous one.

He snuggled her close, stroking her back, just breathing her in and finding, to his surprise, that the word that popped into his head when he breathed her in and held her was home.

He pulled back a little, smiling a little and sighing. "Diagon Alley. I went to make sure the owlery and other animals were safe, with how everything was deserted. The pet stores were already empty but she'd been looting the wand shop. We had a bit of a spat, and she seemed distracted by something, but I managed to Apparate away, back to here."

He hugged her close again, ignoring the rest of the world.

"This whole situation doesn't make any sense, does it?" Hermione said, sighing into her best friend's shoulder.

It really didn't. Hermione felt thrown for a loop and couldn't make heads or tails of this. Their whole world had been transported to a different time and a different reality, and they had no idea who was responsible for it.

She hated not having the answers.

"Not at all. All I know, right now, is we're safe here, and I like... I really like, I mean, this."

He hugged her tight to illustrate. "I might have to do this more often, if you don't mind it." He wondered if his desire to embrace her would make her start thinking he liked her in more than friendly ways, and he wondered, would she say anything?

And if she did, what would he say?

Hermione felt her face flushed slightly when Harry's arms tightened around her again, pulling her closer. Her own hold on him strengthened somewhat and she smiled a hidden smile. "Of course I don't mind," she told him, her tone, sincere.

They had been through so much together, so the closeness was expected. But there were times, whenever she stood this close to Harry, that there might've been something more to their bond than just friendship.

"Thank you." He grinned as he let go, just a little, pulling back to look her in the eyes. "I was worried about you. Whatever else happened, I always worried. Not, you know, that you can't take carfe of yourself, because you obviously can, and heck, better than I can, really, especially now, but because I do... and I really hope that made sense, because... I think I lost my train of words."

He was blushing slightly.

"I was worried about you too," Hermione admitted, seriously. And why shouldn't she? He was 'Undesirable No. 1'; everyone was looking for him - all those of whom had no alliance to him, at least.

"And that's 'train of thought', Harry," she corrected him, gently, her own arms loosening somewhat now.

"Would you like some tea or something to eat?" She asked, rather suddenly, finally untangling from him completely and turning towards the desk near a heavily curtained window, where a tea pot and a couple mugs sat, beside a tray of the sandwiches Doug had left with her after showing her to where she'd be staying.

"It might be a bit cold," the tea, "but I can reheat it." Magically, of course.

He chuckled. "Right. I always get those mixed up. Sorry." He interrupted her offer to reheat the tea with a hug, then smiled. "I would love tea. and if you could heat it up again, that'd be fantastic."

He felt... a little touchy, a little, needy almost, though he resented that word. She was here, Hermione, and for the first time in a long time, everything felt right.

"It's very good seeing you here."

She'd pulled out her wand and tapped the teapot on the side, which caused steam to erupt from its spout almost instantly. She just hoped she hadn't scolded it.

Hermione grabbed a hold of the cooler handle and began pouring some of the hot liquid into two separate cups, before passing one off to Harry and picking up the tray of sandwiches (which had all been individually wrapped with saran wrap), and offering them to him, as well.

"I think Doug got a little overzealous making these," she said, chuckling somewhat. "Take as much as you want. I daresay I've had my fill."

He laughed and took a couple of them. "Thanks!"

He sipped some of his tea, then started munching. "It's weird. We're across a sea and yet this place feels a lot like Hogwarts."

He moved next to her, bouncing a little. "Makes me feel better about the whole place."

There was a distinct air of familiarity about the place. The moment she'd set foot inside of the school for the gifted, she was instantly reminded the younger witch of Hogwarts. It wasn't all that far of a stretch, considering the nature of the students attending Xavier's. They were special, unique - like their kind were.

"It is rather like it, isn't it?" She said, before sipping a little on her tea. It was still hot, but not scolding hot, thankfully. "Of course, it's much smaller, but I like it here." While she hadn't met too many people yet, the ones she had run across seemed friendly enough.

"How long have you been here?" Hermione asked a moment later, cradling the cup in her hands now.

He nodded. "No castles here. It's peaceful sometimes, except when all the kids get out of classes."

He smiled to her, feeling a surge of warmth for this friend he had known for a very long time.

"About a week and a half, I think. I made a few visits to other places, trying to see how devastated things were, but it seemed like all the Wizarding world places were deserted, and a number of them... there were Dementors at them, Hermione. Even at Hogwarts. Inside the wards."

He shook his head. "Something bad happened here." A run of cold ran along his nerves.

"I think it's like that at every school," Hermione said, cracking a small smile then. She was the odd one out, because she actually enjoyed going to school and learning, and reading. Most kids weren't very keen on being forced into a crowded room to get knowledge stuffed into their heads.

Though, Hermione felt very strongly that if a child had a good teacher (or teachers), that they would most likely enjoy the experience a lot more.

She continued to sip on her hot beverage, listening to Harry. However, she stopped drinking for a moment and her forehead crinkled in concern at the mention of the word 'Dementors'. Slowly, she set her cup back down on the desk.

"You don't suppose they had something to do why our world's been transported here?" She really couldn't see how that would be possible, but, something was definitely amiss (beside the obvious, of course) about their entire situation.

"It's possible. Either that or... Hermione, there is a chance that this is our world... and instead of it being transported here without people, the people were transported away. I don't know how anything could be that powerful, but... with Dementors on the loose and Belatrix as the only other wizard or witch I've seen, I don't know what to think."

He sipped his tea.

"I just know we have to be careful now." He flashed her a grin. "Even more than our usual."

We could end it here, if you'd like. That way we can get these two kids caught up to the present, seeing as the Nexus plot has been over for nearly a week now.
