He lays in the bed, wide-awake, having an evening smoke. He sits in the quiet stillness of the night as the smoke curls around his face. He inhales and the bright red ember glows as he watches her dream. She is beautifully still as those dreams take her miles and miles away.

Here in this darkness is where he often wonders about things that really should not matter. He wonders why a woman so vibrant and beautiful would want someone clumsy and homespun like him. He wonders where he would be without her love.

Neville wonders if it’s only luck that brought Ginny Weasley barreling into his life. What if Harry hadn’t left her to be with Draco… what if she hadn’t had such a blatant hero complex… and what if he hadn’t been the one to kill Nagini? Would he be here by her side if some luck hadn’t played a part in all this? Instead, he might very well be all alone.

He watches her slumber through the smoky haze that surrounds him. Watches her beauty and is thankful still. Here in the dark of evening, he sheds his tears of doubt. Here‘s where he watches and wonders…
