Who: Lyra & Thanatos
When: Friday night
Where: Lyra's place
What: Things moving too fast
When Lyra heard the knock on the door she made her way over towards it with a bounce, a glass of white wine already in her hand as dinner simmered on the stove. She was ready to show off her new dress, a summery thing in yellow and red stripes.
"Hi!" Lyra chirped, wrapping her arms around Thanatos' neck and kissed him in greeting. "I missed you!" It had been a long week of working for Lyra and it felt like forever since she'd got to spend proper time with him.
Thanatos wished he had a better grasp of humans. He'd always stayed at the sidelines, always watching and never really participating. Now he was, and wished there was a manual for it all. He had no idea if what he did may hurt Lyra, or how he ought to behave. And more then not Hypnos wasn't much help. His twin may be long married, but he'd married a goddess. Thanatos loved a mortal and despite him trying he remained Death. He couldn't bridge that gap.
But he left it behind. He could have appeared in Lyra's room but it didn't feel right. That and he didn't want to send his girlfriend to Hades. It seemed counterproductive.
He smiled at her as he returned her kiss and set his arms around her. He'd missed her. He looked to her new dress and chuckled. Always so bright his Lyra. So opposite of him, and thus so needed. "As I missed you. I like the dress."

"I hoped you'd like it," Lyra said as she drew back to spin a little, all the better to show it off. Then she took him by the hand and drew him in, dragging him to sit on the couch with her so she could snuggle up him with, putting the glass of wine aside. "How was your week?"

He let himself be dragged into the apartment and onto the couch. He hardly minded, seeing it brought her closer and he could set his hand around her waist. "It's colorful. I tend to like it."
He shrugged, "quiet. I have someone who will see me soon." He wasn't always sure how she would react listening to what he really did but he wouldn't hide it either. It was him. "The summer does little for me. I am used to cool evenings." He'd often worked in the night, now it was different. "I have something to bring up. Nothing bad, just something I want to say."

Lyra nodded, comfortable now with what he did. The people who died weren't going to die horribly. They were old and it would be peaceful, there was nothing to fear in that. And Thanatos was comforting.
She frowned and looked up at him, resting against his chest. "Yeah?" she asked him.

This could end in two ways. Horribly, or well. He hoped for the latter but with even the minor experiences he had with mortals he knew the first could also occur.
He ran his fingers through her hair and sighed, "I'd like to live with you. Permanently." He wasn't one to beat around the bush. If she said no, he'd wait longer. "I feel far more at home here and whenever I am in my own apartment I just feel...empty and alone." Not his usual, but an after effect of allowing himself to have her. "You brighten me. A counter to my usual self. I'd like to wake up with you and know it is home."

Lyra was most definitely surprised by what she was hearing and she blinked, not yet moving from where she lay on Thanatos. Slowly she sat up to look at him though, frowning. "This is really fast," she said to him, trying to work out quickly exactly how long they had been dating. But really... eight months, Lyra thought now. Eight months wasn't actually that short of a time, yet for Lyra it felt like it was. "I love you," she continued after a pause, "and I love it when you're here with me but... I don't... I don't think I'm quite ready for us to live together, I'm sorry." She took his hand, worried he'd be angry or upset.

"Oh," time just worked funny for him. It always had. He'd often felt like he tended to say goodbye just upon meeting mortals. But he would trust her judgement on it all. He knew how limited mortals were, so it was possible he was trying to cram in too many things at once.
He smiled at her and took her hand, kissing the back of it. "I love you. I did not know. I am in the dark with all this. I take guidance from you." He tilted his head, "would it be alright to appear in the living room though? This I ask because I am mostly lazy."

"Oh," Lyra said, having not really thought about that before. "Sure, of course you can! Silly of me not to say that before, I should have." She leaned over and kissed his lips gently. "I do want to live with you someday but I'm not ready for that yet. I like where we are right now, is that okay?"

He returned her kiss, unsure when later would be. In the end he decided to let her bring the topic up whenever she felt it had been long enough. Deferring to her seemed like the better idea. "I didn't want to just appear and frighten you."
He set his arm around her and shrugged. "Perfectly fine. I am not upset Lyra. Time is funny to me. I will defer to you, easy as that."

She snuggled against him again with a gentle smiling, considering their relationship. "One day," she said after a few moments, "I think I want to marry you." She hadn't really meant to say it but she'd thought about it before and it wasn't likely that Thanatos was going to be scared off by such a statement.

He grinned to her comment, hardly minding it. "I think we should take out the till death do us part bit then though. I think Irony may just implode on it all, considering." He kissed the top of her head. He'd tell her he was his until she died but he didn't think she'd want to hear that right now.

Lyra smiled up at him contentedly. "Death's only a little barrier," Lyra said to him. "I'm pretty sure I'll be yours long after that."

He was pleased to know that, and part of him was sad she wasn't immortal. At least he could have her longer then. "If you so please. I would like it, and Hades could use your cheer. But this is talk of the future. I would rather focus on the now."
