WHO: Fenrir, Hel, Loki, & Jormungandr
WHAT: Monster Family Reunion!
WHEN: Saturday Night
WHERE: Hel's apartment building
New York was bright, loud, and impersonal. It was easy to hide in, easy to slip in and out of crowds, easy to go unnoticed for long stretches of time. It was the epitome of everything Loki loved in a city.
The only issue he had with New York was the itchy, tingling feeling he got every time he was within the city limits. He'd learned long ago how to sniff out an immortal, how being near one felt, and he'd learned just as quickly how to run in the other direction. Loki was not afraid, but he sure as hell wasn't going to chance being recognized by one of the Æsir and repeating his exile.
He'd been to New York before, of course. It was a large hub of money and art and other flashy things, and there was a lot of business to be done within its many buildings. He usually got in, got paid, and got out. He trusted his instincts when they told him the city so nice they named it twice housed a good many Norse gods and goddesses.
This time, though, it was different. There was a pull to stay when usually there was only the push to leave. If he was honest with himself, it was a little disorienting. He strolled down streets and slipped through alleys, making his way through the city until he caught a familiar thread of something outside of an otherwise nondescript apartment building.

Fenrir was sitting by the window, busily devouring a bowl of Easy Mac and watching the news with his brother.
"I don't like this woman," he said, glaring at the perky blonde anchor on the television. "Her teeth are too white and she never stops smiling. It's unnatural."
He turned his head to shove another handful of macaroni and cheese into his mouth (Fenrir didn't find much use for silverware) when he caught the barest edge of a familiar scent. Well, 'familiar' might not have been the right word for it. 'Half-remembered' was closer, something from so long ago and so far away that he immediately recognized it even if he had no idea what it was.
"Someone's outside."

Hel didn't watch much TV, but she was forming her opinions on it through her brother. Mostly she sat quietly and watched her wolf-brother and her snake-brother more than anything. (Especially Jormungandr. There was so much in this world and he was new to it. Little sister she may have been, but she wanted to look after him.)
When Fenrir spoke though, Hel looked at him seriously knowing that he didn't just mean 'someone' but someone potentially dangerous to their little happy threesome.
The half-rotten woman stood slowly, going to the kitchen to retrieve herself a knife from the drawer before returning to their side. She had no fangs, no claws, no strangling muscles. She was just girl-shaped.

Jörmungandr watched television to learn about the world outside their little home, and to learn the language. So far he'd deducted that it probably wasn't the three of them that would have rung in Ragnarok, it would have been the mortals. They seemed rather determined to destroy their world.
Every so often he stole some of Fenrir's food, mostly because he liked the taste, he'd eaten rather well not a month before so he didn't need it, observing his wolf brother's opinion's. "Says the wolf." Every so often he spoke in this English that was now the world's language, or so it seemed, even though his accent was thick.
But when Fenrir said someone was outside he rose, wishing he had his old body again. He was useless in this form. He frowned at Hel and set his hand on her wrist. He still had strength, even though he couldn't quite figure out how to translate it into his limbs. "No." This was his and Fenrir's job. He walked to the window to look outside, feeling this familiar and half remembered pull. He wondered if it was Thor, or the One-Eye.

Loki skimmed the name panel in the front foyer of the building for a moment. He didn't find anyone he'd recently ripped off, or anyone that had employed him. There weren't any names he recognized at all.
Finding no useful information at the front door, he stepped into the alley and stood below a long stretch of fire escapes. He looked slight and out of place, next to a dumpster and dressed in a leather jacket and designer jeans.
He needed to get up to that fire escape, but he was so short these days. He always regretted making that decision.

Fenrir pulled the window open, just a little, since he knew it creaked and that would alert whoever was outside. It was enough, and he knelt and sniffed at the breeze. Damn his stubby little human nose, it wasn't good for anything.
He quickly toed off his ratty jeans and pulled off his T-shirt, letting his body shift back into its natural form. It hurt, his bones cracking and rearranging themselves and fur shooting out of his skin, but it was neccesary.
A wolf once again, he sniffed at the air.
"A male," he 'said' to Hel and Jörmungandr. "Doesn't smell like one of the Æsir. Think it's a giant. I've smelled him before."

Hel nodded to Fenrir to tell him that she had heard and held the knife slack at her side. Her snake-brother was right in that this was their job. They were the warriors and Hel had always been only ever a child or a guardian of the dead. But should this giant hurt her brothers, she would find a way to slay him.
"Is it coming up here?" she asked them.

"He can't reach I think." Jörmungandr never depended much on his eyes. It was vibrations, heat, and smell that worked for him. In this form he could hardly do anything of that. All of it was dull.
He set his hand on his brother's fur before looking to the fire escape. "The giants never hurt us. We lived with them." It sounded logical enough to him, so he stepped forward to let the fire escape down more so this familiar stranger could come up. "And Fenris-Wolf has his scent now," he glanced to Hel, saying it for her benefit, "if he tries anything I'm sure he'll teach his pups and go hunting."

It didn't take Loki long to get over his height challenge. One-half of the dumpster was closed, and with some effort (his shoes weren't exactly made for climbing), he lifted himself up on it. From there, he was able to grab onto the lowest level of the fire escape and swing his body onto it.
This was helping. At least, he thought it was. It was definitely his immortal-sense tingling, and the stronger it got, the more he could tell it was Norse. But he'd been near other Norse before, and it never felt quite like this. Maybe he'd never been this close. Maybe, a tiny part of his mind said, it was his wife. But one thing Loki hadn't been in a very long time was lucky, so he squashed that quickly.
Focusing on the task at hand, he was pleased to see it was a clear shot up the metal stairs. He just had to make sure to be careful and quiet, both things he was very good at. But, just in case he was expected, he pulled a short knife from the inside of his pant leg. It never hurt to be prepared.

Fenrir crouched to the ground, eyes intent on the window. The fact that the giants had never hurt them didn't do much to quell his paranoia. They hadn't lived with the giants for very long, after all.
"I'm jumping on him," Fenrir said, gaze never leaving the window. "He'll be friendlier with me on top of him."

"Bite deep," Hel said without hesitation. "I gave permission for none to come here." Sometimes Hel forget that she didn't live below ground in her own icy halls, in the land of the dead where only she could open and close the gate.

He nodded to Fenrir, keeping himself in front of Hel. He wasn't nearly as good in this mass of limbs then he had been in his comfortable body of snake, but he'd still keep her safe.

Climbing a fire escape was easy enough. The hard part was not making it shake, but he had experience with that, too. He almost removed his shoes just to make less noise, but he figured he might need them later. Being a little more careful with his steps trumped running barefoot through New York.
He didn't have to go up more than a few stories until the feeling became overwhelming, and he knew he'd made it. Of course, if he didn't have his instincts, the full-grown wolf in the window would have tipped him off.
"Shit."

Fenrir lunged forward, jaws locking over the stranger's shoulder and yanking him into the apartment through the open window. He didn't bite down hard enough to seriously injure the man. Not yet, anyway. But the intruder would still find his shoulder and an alarming amount of his upper torso trapped in the jaws of a very large wolf.
"Hello," Fenrir said, letting a snarl rise in his throat.

Hel didn't recognize the man, but it was clear he was one of their kind now that he was close. Even she could feel that, the one of them without strong animal senses. She didn't bother to hide her form and stood watching through one bright eye and one white and dead, maggots crawling their way across the surface.
"Who are you?" she demanded of him, voice clear, the queen of Helheim even here.

Ever the patient watcher, Jörmungandr watched his siblings and the man that had come into their home. He would act when it was the right time to do so, intend on studying this being that was so familiar that he could swear the answer was just beyond his reach.
So he sat down, not feeling he needed to add to his siblings unspoken threats.

The realization as to just who Loki had been sensing came to him with startling clarity, so much so that he almost forgot about being half-gnawed on. If the huge wolf wasn't an indication, then the half-woman, half-corpse clinched it. He'd never seen the third man before, so silent at their side, but he could wager a guess.
He was confused, relieved, and kind of proud, all at the same time. All three feelings were mostly foreign to him, and so it took him a moment to reply.
"Hello," he said plainly, as if they were four normal people passing on the street. "I'm not sure whether to be proud of myself for being disguised so well, or disappointed in you for not recognizing me straightaway. Although, to be fair, you never did see much of me, did you, darling daughter?"

Fenrir narrowed his eyes, another small growl escaping his throat.
"Daughter?" he asked. He hadn't spent enough time as a human to learn how snort in disbelief, but the huffing sound that he made was a close second. "You're saying you're Loki?"
Fenrir didn't believe it. He hadn't avoided Odin and his cronies for this long by not being paranoid. This giant may have smelled familiar, but that didn't prove he was their father.

Hel's wariness had changed now to something else, to curiousness she couldn't deny. Their father? Maybe her brothers knew Loki better but Hel had been the youngest, the child, and in the years before then she had spent most of her time only with Jormungandr and Fenrir. Loki had always been... well, Hel didn't know what Loki spent most of his time doing other than making trouble for himself and others.
She stepped forward now, watching him carefully. "Father?" she asked, having no idea if this was what he would feel like. She could only rely on her brothers.

Jörmungandr remained quiet as this man claimed to be their father. He was different. He had not tasted the chains they had put Fenrir in, nor the empty waste that had been Hel's confinement. As far as cages had gone, his own had been large and he'd enjoyed the silence. No one had forced him to stay there.
So he rose and walked between his siblings, crouching down and looking at the man claiming to be Loki. "We have tasted chains, waste lands and waves. They never learned trust." He tilted his head, the snake he was just under his skin, "our mother's name is Sylph." A lie, to see if this being would correct them, "and I was first born."

It was becoming increasingly clear to Loki that each of them was paranoid, and he couldn't exactly blame them. They had their own reasons to be wary, banished for so long by someone who had, at one point, called himself 'brother.'
"Your brother was born before you," Loki replied, "and if only Angrboda could see you now. She never forgave them, you know. Not that forgiveness was in her nature. Or mine, for that matter." Odin saw no kindness from Loki after his children had been taken.

Fenrir stiffened, only just remembering at the last minute not to bite down on the man. He let go of the giant's shoulder, but stayed close, ready to lunge at him if he pulled out a weapon.
"That last I heard, Loki was bound up in chains," Fenrir said.

Again the only word on Hel's lips was father? but this time she kept silent, kept that question inside. But she was studying him now, her usual blank expression failing to show just how curious she was.
She wanted to reach out and touch this man, sure that would show her the truth of it all.
