WHO: Patrick and Padraig
WHAT: Plans
WHEN: Thursday evening
WHERE: In their respective dwellings
When Padraig answered the phone, Patrick could tell from his tone that Padraig was aware who was calling. Especially since he said, "is everything okay" before saying anything else.
"Yes," Patrick assured him, though he didn't really feel okay. "I mean, nothing's happening. How are you?"
"I'm fine since you are asking, but I doubt you called to inquire after my health," Padraig replied, sounding a little wary still.
"Heh. Guilty. I was uhm...I was wondering if it would be possible to borrow the farm for a little while."
Padraig's tone relaxed audibly. "Patrick, of course. It's yours too. You can use it any time."
"I mostly wanted to make sure you weren't busy doing Johnny in the stables," Patrick explained, his tone dry.
Padraig chuckled but he didn't refute the idea. "We're in Dublin and if you get a chance we'd like to see you. Before or after you go out to the farm house. Is everything alright, Patrick? Any particular reason you want to go out there?"
Patrick swallowed and he looked around for Grey Cat, who was conspicuously absent. He obviously didn't want to be cuddled right now. "Everything's fine, I'm just- I've been doing stupid things lately and I just want- I need to separate myself from the influences on my life which keep me from reflecting on me." Not that Patrick would ever give up those influences, because he loved them. But he did find it hard to be reflective and prayerful when there were distractions everywhere. His attention span was understandably short. "I was making progress before and now I feel like I've gone backwards. And Sebastian is being very logical and all I can think is that I must look like a ridiculous five-year-old to him."
"You're not a ridiculous five-year-old," Padraig reassured his other self. "Five-year-olds don't realise when they need to take time to work things out. I think it sounds like a good idea. The farm is all yours. I'll have my friend who lives up there stock it up for you so all you have to do is show up."
"Thank you," Patrick said, sounding utterly relieved. "And I will come to Dublin as well. I'd like to see you."
When Padraig returned the sentiment, it actually sounded genuine. That made Patrick smile.
