WHO Fairytales, Little John WHEN Monday at twilight WHERE the garden at the parsonage WHAT meet cute WARNINGS floof
Elaine lingered in the garden outside the parsonage of Friar Tuck. She had wanted to come and see him, but didn't realise he wouldn't be there and didn't think to call ahead. She was too used to moving through her own world and everything being where it should be when she wanted it to be.
The little garden was quite pretty. Elaine walked around it, swishing the skirt of her embroidered dress, brushing her fingers against the lavender flowers, bending down to smell the herbs that became so aromatic in the evening. She didn't want to impose on someone's garden. Taking things from gardens that aren't one's own has bad consequences for firstborn children. But she felt like she could maybe offer something to the good friar, just to... encourage the garden to reach its best life.
She had left her little cat curled up on Marian's bed. Marian was being a wonderful host, and Elaine was doing her best to be a gracious guest. She resisted making her own space in the building, as tempted as she was to create a new attic or cupboard space to crawl into. It wasn't hers to make, and she had to save her creativity for somewhere else, as much as her fingertips buzzed to make something new. It was bad hospitality to create enchanted rooms when you weren't invited to.
Tonight she felt especially relaxed and happy, and so she had waited in the garden for something to happen, because she was kind of sure that it might.
