Iain felt the bottom of his stomach drop out. This scenario was sickeningly familiar, and it always ended badly. "Come on, Lachlan," he said softly. "If you have nothing to hide, there shouldn't be an issue. If we're wrong, we'll apologize and never bring it up again." He desperately wanted to believe that Lachlan really was just ill and lonely.
