There were about two months left in the school year and Guinevere was already feeling that ever familiar tickle that came when a teacher was done and ready for summer break. She taught first grade, so for the most part her only adult conversations were with other teachers. She looked forward to recess when the children could burn off some energy while she chatted with her fellow teachers. They knew. They understood what havoc small children could reap on any unsuspecting adult, but at the same time Guinevere loved her students. At least at the end of the day she didn't have to take any of them home. Quiet time at home was sacred to her, even if it wasn't entirely quiet. She could at least think without her thoughts being constantly interrupted.
Recess had just ended and Guinevere ushered her students back inside to her classroom. It was career week and the first graders were learning about different professions. Every day following recess each class had their own special guest for about half an hour. Once Guinevere had seated her students on the rainbow rug where they usually had music or reading, she called the office to say they were ready.
She looked over the sheet of their guests for the week and felt a little tingle run up her arms. Guinevere knew immediately what that meant. She had accepted a position at this school specifically because she hadn't felt any other immortals there. Given her past, she preferred to remain on her own and kept very few immortal relationships. She was certain it must be one of the visitors. There was a knock on the door and Guinevere went to answer it, noting the tall man outside. She looked down at the sheet as she opened the door, "Mr Campbell?" She looked up with a smile, positive he was the one giving off that immortal energy, though pretended she felt nothing.
