"So you just kept quiet?" Alex asked. "I still would have loved to see you, up until a few weeks ago, there was no one from back home. And, well, my marriage fell apart because my ex-husband just decided he apparently wasn't happy with me anymore, and served me with papers about four days before Christmas."
He sighed, waving one hand as though to brush the words away. "It doesn't matter. Apparently the gods decided to smile on me and bring you here instead."
