Achilles was not blind to Penthesilea's affection, he trusted her when he had been at his lowest. She knew when he needed to ground his emotions out in a fight and when he needed a sensitive touch. She was a warrior first and foremost and that was where they had a mutual understanding. The pain and grief that came with those long lost and for a past that tried to keep them from moving forward in this modern world. Sometimes he didn't even need to speak, he could tell by the look in her eyes she felt the same.
Polyxena had left him a wreck, and the walls around his heart had darkened. However, the more time he spent fighting out his anger, he left open room for love. He was still quite guarded, but that ounce of affection he had for Penthesilea was what kept him coming back to her. He'd asked her to meet him at the war memorial, a time that was just as important to his history as the Trojan war itself. He wasn't going to adorn her with flowers and gifts, but asked her for her company and into his history. He always paid his respects to men he wished he'd been able to save. War was so senseless and yet it was hard to ever stay idle.
