Emma's head was spinning as she took in the moment. She nodded slowly, though it all felt very surreal. Was this really happening? There was no way this was really happening. Jonah wouldn't go around saying he was in love with people. That was crazy! Emma literally reached over and pinched her own arm, resulting in a little squeak of pain. She breathed in deeply and took a step back. This was real. This was really happening. She took in another breath and sat in the nearest chair. "Okay..." she said finally. "Jonah, is that how you really feel?" she asked, feeling like her own voice was a million miles away.. -----------
Jonah stood there with his hand over his mouth. He was almost terrified of what might come out if he let his tongue fly again. He ran his hands through his hair and couldn't help himself from answering her question. It was part of the new freedom he seemed to have. It was surreal event o himself. "I think so..." he nodded, taking a deep breath. She hadn't really answered him and it felt like a gut punch. "I've felt that way for a while now." Was he supposed to hide it? He didn't want to anymore. ----------
Emma could feel her cheeks steadily getting hotter. Oh god, oh god, oh god. She continued to nod slowly, as though he kept talking after that. She felt very dazed right now. She had no idea how she was supposed to react to this. A part of her was pretty damn ecstatic, that selfish part of her that had wanted him to love her the way she loved him. But the logical, rational side was telling her this was a terrible, terrible idea and she could by no means act on it because he was a VIRTUE!. She puffed out her cheeks after trying to come up with some logical explanation. "My head feels fuzzy, I'm sorry," she said, knowing that was zero help. -----------
"Oh, oh," he clapped his hands around a little. "Do you need water? Sit down even." There was a hint of the little fluster boy he could be, but his urge to protect her was there always. He never wanted to leave someone in distress, he wanted to help. "Please, please sit down. I'll get you something." Even though this was her home. ----------
Before Emma could respond, Jonah had already finished rambling through suggestions and taken off to the kitchen. She had no idea what to think of all of this. It was so out of character for him to not only go around admitting such deep feelings, but also to act like he had done something wrong. She had seen him at the best and worst of times, and she had never seen him act like this. She had no idea what was happening. She just sat there, trying to let everything settle in her brain because it was giving her a headache. She ran her hands through her hair and looked up at the ceiling for a moment. What the hell is happening? This was literally the first time a boy had ever admitted to being in love with her. She had always thought she would react differently. Clearly, she was very, very wrong. Then again, it was Temperance who had admitted these feelings so maybe it was just her underlying worry that by loving a Virtue she was corrupting him somehow and therefore it was wrong for them to love each other. UGGGHHHH! She was so confused.
